- Have you ever wondered what up with Batman’s sweet ride? The Batmobile is as entwined with the caped crusader as his utility belt and pointy ears. Robert Pattenson will soon be behind the wheel of his own version of the black hot rod, but how did we get to this latest version?
Batmobile superfan Chris Goodmakers explores the history of this automotive icon. What started as a simple red coupe in the comics evolved into Adam West’s red streaked rocket car. From there it changed again to Tim Burton’s sleek noir jet fighter, as iconic as it is gorgeous. Pattinson’s batmobile is a force of nature of striking fear. It’s introduction was the most chilling scariest introduction that is never seen before , and Matt reeves makes it too badass with the mix of horror.

@@billywashere6965 The Car was campy, but I loved it. I found The Duel kinda, meh. I don't think I was mature enough to appreciate it when I saw it as a teen, though my dad absolutely loooooved it.
Christine is still my #1 dream car, and I don't think it will EVER be replaced.

For those who haven't seen the movie yet, wait until they introduce the Batmobile, the sound designer for that car deserves an award. It gave me chills.
I really liked this Batmobile but not just for it's design, but what it represents, it's literally the starter car for the starter Batman, he's still new to crime fighting and this is the first Batmobile built from junk, he literally did built it himself and to me that means a lot, it's my favorite.
I'm also excited to see where they take they car for the next movie, I feel like it'll be something that is improved upon in each movie.

It was very focused in the feeling of a 2 yr vigilante rookie, and how he goes from the motorcycle to the car...he is still right there where he is somewhat comfortable with some choices, but it feels green. The batmobile is a prototype for what is to come, but it has helped him to achieve fast and gruesome chases. Loved it!
The sound was so powerful the whole ground shook. It was such a smart sound design move done by the director, as the shots were changing between penguin and batman - the penguins car was loud and good but felt normal, whenever batmans shots came the batmobile had such roaring sound with such intense bass that the whole theatre, the floor started trembling. You could feel the power of the batmobile.

They introduced the Batmobile like it was a important character - which is fitting. The roaring to life of the jet turbine is terrifying - listening to it literally scream to life as it spools up is unreal. The bad guys were all like "wtf?!" when they heard/saw it. Was terrific.
At first I was highly skeptical of the design. I was like what the?!? It’s just a regular car! But then it started to grow on me with the trailers. I like how it looks like something that could actually be built by Bruce, rather than some James Bond tank, or fantastical machine. Then watching it perform and hearing the ripping sound in a Dolby theater just sealed the deal for me!
if he can make a transparent hidden cam in a goddamn soft lens then he should be ashamed with this batmobile
The Tumbler was built by Wayne Enterprises for military use.
@@scylla4342 I think the production of a mini hidden cam on a soft lens is quite different from making a literal tank. But I get what you mean, it is a bit weird.

It was actually build by Bruce at the age of 16 if we see the comics that this movie is based on, and the novels cuz it connects well with this movie.
Year 2 batman, thats a perfect car for that. Like the Batman himself is not "complete", Bruce Wayne himself is not "complete" . Intimidating, powerful, angry but with room for improvement that's a extention of the character. A work in progress. Such a nice design.
Perfect way to some up the Batmobile from a narrative perspective. That's really what the Batmobile has to be an extension of the story. A down and dirty hand built functional but rough and ready war machine.
WOW. A 16 minute long video about how The Batman perfected the batmobile that doesen't really talk about the new batmobile and why it's perfect. It basically says it's perfect because it has a history and this is the new one.
Because there's no real reason why it's more perfect than the 89 Batmobile or the Tumbler.
@@billywashere6965 Disagree. That depends on personal taste, so you shouldn't state that as if it was a fact. This car cetainly has characteristics that make him more interesting than the other ones, and the same could be said about all of them.
But even if you didn't like the new batmobile, your comment shows you failed to understand my point. My point is: The video does not discuss what it promises to discuss. So they either did on purpose to atract more views with something devoid of content, or they are clueless about this. Both cases make me believe they are horrible at their jobs and should not be "creating content" on the internet.

What I like about this new one is that, well... y'all remember the scene in F&F6, where Dom says 'I want the love child of that (points at 2nd-gen Dodge Charger), and that (points at HMMWV/Humvee/Hummer H1)'? This new Batmobile looks more like what that pairing would produce, than the Baja Racer-style Charger that appeared in that film, possibly with some Halo Warthog DNA thrown in...
Fun fact the new batmobile is actually based on a Dodge Charger it was confirmed that they used a Charger body split in half and then was made wider to fit onto the kustom chassis of the car, they where different versions made for the movie with different engines, one has a Tesla drive train, the hero car has no engine, then they made a kinda rally configuration, and they made a stunt hero car that has an V8 in it :)

@@GRIMEYtheFATMAN yes exactly but allot of websites claimed the car to be a 70 cuda,and I was like never ever this is based on a 70 cuda, the windshield isn't the same shape, and like you say the side windows just confirmed the fakt that this a Charger body !

The more I sit with it, the more I start to like this new Batmobile. I've loved them all. But this concept of a "practical" or "handmade" battle hotrod... Love it. You could actually drive around a big city in this thing. Not too long. No big, useless wings. This new Batmobile is doable in a highspeed chase burning up like... First Ave in NYC. Weaving in an out of traffic. It even has the high-tech ability to actually make a U turn. Nice.

Since I'm under the impression that the next Batman film will be an "Upgrade" of a more advanced Batman, I'm looking forward to seeing the next designs for the Bat-suit and Batmobile!
Just like this first movie was a modified 60’s muscle sports car, I think the the next Batmobile should be a modified Supercar or hypercar, like a modified Lamborghini, Ferrari, or Koniegsegg...

I neither hope or expect it to stray too far from this initial design. I think a few additional features would be fun, but I think if it shifts back toward something we've seen before, it would defeat the purpose of being new and different.
One of the ongoing problems of franchises like Batman going on and on is that there's this temptation to keep adding more and more, going bigger and bigger. The result, as we've seen, is the Clooney Batmobile and its absurd excesses, or the Snyder battle-tank that looked like something from a Terminator sequel. Both were just the version from the previous movie, but more. And sometimes, more just isn't better. What made The Batman so great is that it pulled everything back into the realm of believability. No billion-dollar prototypes. Nothing needed Lucius Fox to explain where it came from or how it worked, because it was all self-evident. That DIY approach is what defines this version of Batman, and I'd hate to see it abandoned just so we can get another HUM-Lamborghini. Been there, done that. Let's see where this home-made Batmobile can take the character, instead of wishing the Batmobile was more like something we've already seen.
The whole sequence, built to present the car was so right on the nose, but I don't complain. It worked very well, all of it...Since the very first shriek of the engine, up until the last upwards shot .
The plus factor of the new batmobile is how its features are used effectively as plot device. How it is introduced and presented in the movie is very cinematic. Kinda remind me to the Thumbler moment but the new one is more bold and estetics from how its scream like a banshee, roaring like a lion, ramming like a bull, and make the Penguin fear......

I like how this newer Batman film seems to be really grounded even closer to reality than previous versions of Batman and his gadgets.
Yes, the Nolan films were pretty grounded as well, but I get even from just seeing the trailer so far, this film is more so than Nolan's take.
It definitely is the most realistic and grounded Batman movie to date.

@@johnh8546 it's not more grounded than Batman Begins. It IS darker and more emotional. But, it still has some fantasy/sci fi elements like Batman injecting himself with venom and coming back to life or when a barrage of bullets was pinging off his suit like it's nothing.
The introduction to the new Batmobile was one of the many standout scenes with it starting up and the engine growl. One of the things that I also appreciate is that it reminds me of the batmobile in the 70s comic.
80s Batman car is always going to be the best design. hard to beat.
The car started its life as a old school dodge charger watched a video on it. I had a feeling it was just by looking at the side window shape and back window shape also. Love the car.
It has the roof of a charger but likely not much else.
To those complaining about the new one, this is supposed to be a year 2 batman before he's playboy Bruce, has full control of Wayne industries, has Lucius Fox making tech for him. The first batmobile even in the comics was a highly modded car he put together himself in secret in his garage. The current car is perfection for any car guy with inspiration taken from the 60s mobile. We will probably get a batmobile more like what we're used to towards the end of the Pattinson trilogy.

He did all those things when he left the league of assassins and returned to Gotham. i.e. He was "playboy Bruce".
Bruce didn't get "full control" of Wayne Enterprises until the end of Batman Begins. Lucius had already made the tech Batman used as he was head of Wayne Enterprises R&D dept.

@@Ceyx000 You do know Nolan batman is not accurate to the comics at all right? He didn't just suddenly become playboy Bruce. Nolan didn't have 6 movies to flesh the character out and so had to skip to him being batman pretty fast after the origin story. In fact even in Begins, Bruce gets a lot of suggestions from Alfred about playing polo or dating supermodels so he wasn't always that way. The real mask he wears is Bruce Wayne. He's batman all the time.

This thing looks like something a common welder with a mechanic buddy would make in the backyard after watching the Punisher.
Even in the cartoon he had a hired mechanic that did the car for him.
Even without a first model he should be able to make a competent list of things the car needs to be incase he needs it for anything more than an escape ride. Batman is supposed to be highly intelligent like a genius...
Strong, sturdy, heavy, powerful, fast, shielded.
Even if say someone else crashes into him by complete accident it's not like he can wait for the police and a wrecker... even hit by a semi or at least a 1 ton it's gotta be able to limp back at a good pace.
Needs to break through barricades if need be.
It's why his newer cars have gotten more tank like. Even the 89 was very well armored.
@@jacobnash9755 You know billionaires don't have a billion dollars in cash in their bank account. They're worth that because of all their assets and in the case of Bruce the majority of those assets are Wayne Industries stocks which you can't buy cars with. If he gets mechanics to build for him they'd need to be in on it too and that means they can let others know the car they've seen on the streets being driven by Batman is the one they made for Bruce and the gig is up. This is a broken Bruce who trusts no one and wants nothing else but to punish others so he won't put his trust and faith in a mechanic who could spill the beans. Plus I'm not sure if you've ever worked on a car before but the kind he has is not cheap. A V8 with twin turbos and a jet engine mounted on an old muscle car chasis that's been reinforced with what I presume is bulletproof armour and q massive battering ram in the front all while being nimble and fast enough despite weighing like 6 tons. He also needs a car that he can leave without worrying much about if it does get totaled so no need to get it back to the cave. Even his suit is all about function and not about looks.
Hell get the more refined toys and batsuit later on when he calms down a little and gets a vision of the kind of hero he needs to be. This batman isn't a hero yet. He's just effing pissed and wants to break some skulls.
The Tumbler is my favourite batmobile, simply because it makes the most sense to me. All terrain, and built like a tank.
The tumbler is in a technological class of it's own. The others are just warmed over hot rods.
Only the car in The Batman was a hot rod. The '66 Batmobile was a remodeled concept car, and the others were nothing more than moving movie props. Of course, from what I've been given to understand, the car in the Batmobile was about 30% prop too. The back engine was just for pretty, it didn't do anything. What's amazing about the Tumbler is that they actually built a Batmobile for real, that could actually do most of the things it was pretending to do. Of course, again, like the most recent one, the jet in the back is pure cinema fantasy. But otherwise, it's kind of amazing that they literally made a real Batmobile.
The new Batmobile is a badass car, but I looks fragile...like an offroad raceway very lightweight and thin. I think it started as an old 70s Charger. The hood scoupes give it away.
The Tumbler is my favorite Batmobile. That thing was absolutely epic.
The hood scoops? The entire hood is custom. The windscreen and roof and side windows and rear roof pillars though are almost a dead on match for the 68 or 69 or 70 Charger. I don't think the car is a modded Charger though. The car they built has an all tube frame suspension and aside from the roof, nothing else matches a Charger. I think they bought after market sheet steel and glass to give the car some grounding real world car parts to keep the design grounded. These days you can practically build an entire Charger from scratch with after market steel.
@@straker454 look under the main scoop. There look to be long mounted scoops, like heat extractors. They seem familiar, like an old Mopar.
I think it started as a plymouth cuda but they've made it wider and added other parts from other muscle cars
@@collincutler4992 I guarantee they scratch built this car. There's nothing I've seen about the frame or chassis or body panels that tells me this car is a modded and very hard to get Charger or Cuda. That's not a scoop on the hood. There's two long bracer bars that are on either side of the center panel that go under the nose and come out the grille and wrap around the front bumper. Between them are a slotted panel that allows a red light to come through them. That hood is also pinned under the fenders so it doesn't open. The fenders are overlapping onto the hood and held on by rivets. If you look at the back of the car or some of the undercarriage pics the car is more like a stock car with a full tube frame network under it for the body panels to attach to. It also has four wheel independent suspension. After the Nolan and Snyder films scratch building their cars, they scratch built this car as well and used after market parts to make it appear to be a modded car, but the mods would have to be so extensive that they would have to build an all new car. It would be way easier and cheaper to build it from scratch.
@@gabrielbrown805 There isn't one section of the car that matches any real car aside from the roof and windscreen and rear pillars. It's designed to evoke a classic muscle car rather than actually be made out of one.
Affleck's Batmobile was practical for what he was doing.
I like this car, I like it a lot. I like that it went back to being a car rather than a military vehicle. My only complaint is that it looks unfinished. Like from the front and sides and even above it looks great...then you look at the entirely exposed engine in the back and I'm just thinking about how some guy with a 12 gauge shotgun could wreck all the exposed wiring and fan belts and the car is toast. I hope if we see this car in a sequel they cover that s#!t up, lol.

That's what I love about it. It's unfinished, not perfected, and shows how Batman needs to improve his equipment in the future.

It's unfinished and raw just like this batman only two years into his journey. This is basically the prototype batmobile and man is it so wicked in this movie
I personally love the design. It's the first time the batmobile doesn't look like it was designed to be sold as Happy Meal toys. It just looks like an armored car.

@@changsangma1915 Because it wasn't properly armored. It was about as armored as the Interceptor, which was fine for Max because he had to scavenge for what he had in those films. Batman has billions of dollars at his disposal and a completely exposed powertrain that would go kaput with one solid shunt from behind, which would dent the exhaust, forcing back pressure into the downpipe and cause the head to explode when he would go to accelerate due to all the built-up gases. It's a mobile explosion waiting to happen.
This most recent iteration of the Batman is the best in my opinion. The new Batmobile is totally awesome. 😎👍🏼

Not entirely sure that's true. Guess it depends on your p.o.v. There was a Bat-Girl character in the comics from 1961 on, but it wasn't Barbara Gordon. The Barbara Gordon character debuted in the comics the same year as in the TV show, but much earlier in the year. That could be explained pretty easily imo.
The 60s series was also a big influence on the look of Alfred, who had previously been a tubby comedy figure.
Even though I was born in the early 2000’s my Dad introduced me to The Batman with the 1966 show, I was obsessed for some reason. My next introduction was courtesy of my older brother being Batman 1989. I loved the darker tone and know My favorite Batman is Pattinson’s. He is just awesome.

Honestly, when I think of Batman; the TAS and Brave and the Bold versions of the Batmobile are what come into MY mind as iconic cars.
The new move doesn't really LOOK like it's the Batmobile, just a generic sports car with a rocket engine

I believe the newest Batmobiles primary purpose is to intimidate. The way it first appears in the movie is pure fear. The whole purpose of Batman in this movie is to make criminals fear him.

when this new batmobile fired up was possibly the best part of the whole movie
also clooney's batmobile would be really cool if they cut the wings down a bit, fixed the grill and lost the disco lights. the actual body shape is really good

This is hands down my favorite batmobile yet. I thought the tumbler had me but this thing is a beaut !! Looks like Batman as a car. And it sounds so incredible !! That v8/battery/jet combination played a beautiful symphony

I think she may have been built on charger bones instead of Chevy ones. The hood length, the angle of the A pillars and those long curvy hips kinda give it away. It's a bit mad max in spirit.

So, yeah....a lot on the cars but I thought this was going to be a little bit more about the newest rendition of the Batmobile. I was disappointed to realize that it was more about the history and less about what I was hoping to watch.
One thing I liked about Batman-Batman and robin is batmobiles got more futuristic while Gotham citizens cars got more old fashioned loved it

This batmobile is so simple because it is only the 2nd year bruce became batman. He is learning and diy-ing things . So due to his early stage he still has to go a long road but for some starters this batmobile still does all the job and its awsome

The 89 Batmobile was the best vehicle, a monster who can throw vehicles around, full of gadgets ahead of it's time.
The Snyder cut was THE definitive cut off that movie.
The biggest problem with this car, is how vulnerable the engine components are... The entire engine is basically completely exposed. Huge weakness in comparison to all other bat mobiles.

The tumbler will always be my favorite ( I still want one). I do like the direction they went with the new batmobile it looks like a dyed in the wool gearhead built it himself. My favorite parts of the movie is the car and motorcycle stuff. I liked the sound design to. They added a lot of extra base for the exaust you could feel it in your chest.

I thought it was a 1970 Dodge Challenger/Plymouth HEMI Cuda since the Charger is a big, long car while this new Batmobile looks a little smaller and more agile.
@@elijahprasad7884 I think the movie gives a false impression of this car’s size. In person this Batmobile is enormous. I can see why you could mistake it for a Challenger or Cuda but it is a Charger.

When I was in the Cub Scouts in the early 70s, I build a Batmobile Pinewood Derby car inspired by the Barris Batmobile. I didn't win the race but I did win a trophy for the best car.

The new batmobile is just simply the best one so far, it's the perfect batmobile. I know with these movies suspension of disbelief it's a must. But the batmobile has to be a realistic vehicle. That tumbler is just an abomination and a disgrace, that tumbler is just a piece of shait
Snyder cut was waaaaaaay better than the original JL. Everything made more sense. The original cut felt like a TV series where you've missed some episodes.
