  • On this adventure we visit Egmont Key State Park in St.Petersburg, Florida! Egmont Key is a barrier island that is accessible only by boat and guards the entrance to Tampa Bay. The island is steeped in fascinating history including it's use by the Seminole Tribe of Native Americans as well as housing remnants of an antiquated military bunker used during the Civil and Spanish-American War.
    We'll explore the beautiful shores(and interior) of this unique place and collect some beautiful seashells along the way!

    You did a great job showing how beautiful Egmont Key is! And I think you also found a boring turretsnail with those augurs you found. Very cool! Isn't it amazing how many great shells people might miss? Never give up! You found some great goodies. Keep up the good work!

      Hey Lynette, ironically that's the same way I became interested in shell collecting as a child! My parents took me to Miami Beach when I was 11, and I sat in the little trough while the waves washed up little shell treasures - I have never looked back since! Thank you very much for checking out my content!

    Wow that was so nice! Beautiful place to shell! The white sands of Florida take my breath away! I'm a sea glass collector and I completely understand the bit of panic felt when you've taken time away from responsibilities to go combing, and you get there to find others who have gotten there earlier! Early bird rule!! Thanks for the beautiful video!

    Whats with all the dead foliage and palm trees??

    • @gaget6612
      @gaget6612 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is salt intrusion from the island eroding. Black on the palm trees is from a fire.

      I think there was also a natural wildfire on Egmont Key in 2015/2016 which burned through some of the island.

    How long were you able to shell on the key?

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ann! I was able to shell on the island for approximately 3 hours in total. The Egmont Key Ferry ride(from Hubbard's Marina) is about 30 minutes each way and then you have 3 hours on the island. Of course, if you have your own boat, you can spend more time!

    You talk about people walking past choice shells with surprise, but some people prefer to leave nature in nature. For a lot of people, hunting stuff is not why they're there.

      We were at Egmont Key Sept. of 2021. It was a scorcher of a day, so getting in the water to swim was the priority. Now I wish I had done some shelling there!
