Sam Bankman-Fried Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

- FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing billions of dollars from customers. US District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan delivered the sentence in federal court in Manhattan moments after Bankman-Fried said he was “sorry about what happened at every stage.” Ed Ludlow, Max Chafkin and David Gura have more.

The most he could get reduced is 50% of 25 years using the "First Step Act" which is a civil rights measure intended to reduce drug dealer's sentences. White color criminals use it a lot too even though it wasn't intended for them

He will do half that, you do 50% in federal and in California you do 33% as long as you have no prior strikes

SBF should have pleaded guilty and throw himself on the mercy of the court. Instead, he lied on the stand, pissing the judge off. He probably would have gotten 10-15 years. I don't know what the other defendants are getting, but I bet they will be out in 5.

@@erwina4738Have you been under a rock? He absolutely pled not guilty in January 2023. This was even after Caroline Ellison pled Guilty, which made it even more ridiculous. Caroline took a plea deal to testify against Sam due to him pleading not guilty. Had he pled guilty this would have been over in early 2023 when he was given that option.
@@erwina4738Also, you are always given the option to plead guilty or not guilty in criminal proceedings. Sam chose to fight the charges and he lost.

The federal prison systems time reduction is a bit complicated. He automatically gets about 5 weeks knocked off his sentence each year and then he can earn 'good time' which is an additional sentence reduction. He could be out in about 12.5 years. What a joke.
