  • Teddy Schleifer, Puck founding partner, joins 'Squawk Box' to preview former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried's sentencing today, why he believes the sentencing is more interesting than the trial itself, what the sentencing says about the criminal justice system at large, and more.

A mother without money to care for her children because SBF stole her money still has to care for her children. Where has she obtained that money since the time it was taken? Why should she believe she will receive full repayment with interest?

I was thinking about that. If he cannot experience joy then maybe he cannot experience sadness either. I think the worst of it for him will be frustration being disconnected from video games and the computer in general. He's likely to spend his time designing games to patent and market. According to Tiffany Fong (who reports on SBF on You Tube and is pretty close to his situation as she interviewed him in his home while he was on bail) says that he is getting along pretty well in prison and she even got a picture of him with his new crew. One fellow inmate who's since been released did an interview with her too ~ about SBF ~ and he said he only had to knock back off the harassment of SBF once or twice, by other inmates and now he's got friends. He even teaches inmates about crypto. He can advise them what to do when they get out, and their families' from inside likely, and probably get paid for doing it. It WILL BE HELL for a mind like his however, but he'll regain the title of Crypto-King, no doubt.

SBF will have to serve 85% of his sentence. He will receive 54 good days per year. Unless some reforms are made of course, that is the best he could hope for.

Who is this guy? An SME??? If you're an investor- there is risk. The investors knew that going in. You win. You lose. That's investing. Sam is a criminal. Go to jail for 50 years or more. Don't be a criminal. It is a risk. You win. You lose. Jail is dangerous. DONT BE A CRIMINAL. Geez, hire me as your SME.

On sentencing, remember that the prisons are full of people who were involved in the drug business, which is illegal solely because of an obviously failed government policy. The country knowingly sentences people to spend many years in an environment where they can be assaulted at any time, and the guards are completely aware that this is happening. Judges, knowing this, sentence people to prison on a weekly, if not a daily, basis, and they do this to people who have caused far less harm than Sam Bankman-Fried.

Can we talk about how he was the largest donor to the Democratic Party during the 2020 election using laundered money? Can we talk about how the SEC let FTX even happen but continues to use tax payers dollars to sue these institutions rather than doing their job and REGULATING crypto?

These financial con artists must pay society for their heinous crimes. These types destroy trust in our financial institutions. I also don't feel sorry for the greedy investors in his schemes, addicted to making a killing in crypto-currency. Why don't they now get a REAL job instead? We should tax all of this speculation in our markets!
