    Great video, don’t forget to pump the brake petal after starting before shifting into gear. Need to pump the pistons back up!

    When pushing the caliper piston back, you should use one of the old brake pads against the piston to keep from damaging it.

    • @Danielm213
      @Danielm213 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Also, you should note that you should open up the brake fluid reservoir cap to relieve pressure when pushing the piston back.

      don't forget to push the brake pedal when u take the pads out it adds extra mobility for future brakes

    Couple other things - don't use grease-grease! Use synthetic brake caliper grease. Worked on several cars where someone had used regular grease, and it made the rubber swell so much I almost couldn't get it apart.
    Also, look at the back of your pads. The set with the wide spaced pins goes towards the piston, the narrow pins one go outboard.

    Good video not sure why those 11 people gave this a thumbs down. Like I always say though, everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how ignorant or wrong they are.

    COST !!! Here ya go, if you want to know how much you're saving by DIY? At dealerships, GMC Terrain Brake jobs: $380 Per Axle (Labor included) on average in most of the U.S. Cities. GMC Terrain brake pads usually last between 30,000 and 70,000 miles depending on your driving habits. --Sidenote: If you're going to replace fronts do both side including rears too. NEVER half do a job. You'll be sorry in the future. Again this is a GREAT Video and will save you some serious cash. Thanks again for this video. I have done all my previous vehicle repairs myself. This is the first ("NEW SUV") I have ever owned and planning the work myself.

    Tip: If the piston has a lot of resistance you can remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir and it will help alleviate the pressure.

    If you pull the caliper slider pins all out - make note that they are different top/bottom! One has a rubber collar, one doesn't. I don't think it matters which is which, just don't put 2 rubbers on one wheel and 2 solid on the other. You know, if you do the "big pile of parts" routine.

    If you can't get the Torx screw out of the rotor you're going to have to drill it out. I wouldn't worry about replacing it it's only there to hold the rotor on tight while you're putting the caliber and pads on once you put your wheel on and tighten the lug nuts that will fasten the rotor to the hub

    Great video! Ty. I changed all the pads and had the rotors turned in no time. One question, each of the outside pads were significantly more worn down than their corresponding inner pads, is this an issue?

    Looks like one of the old brake pads wore down much more than the other. I noticed that on the Terrain/Equinox vehicles when I did rotors / brake pads swap-outs. Especially on the front. I imagine there was a lot of vibration when braking.

      Always Wipe New rotors with Degreaser agent. Some have Coatings that if not removed will frost the pads and glaze the rotors

    So, do you have to release some pressure from the bleeder nut when depressing the the piston?

  • @chevymade8547
    @chevymade8547 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    are the rears the same way? Or do you need a special tool for twisting the caliper piston back in?

  • @mrob5278

    quick question.....are the rear and front rotors identical?? can they be interchanged or is there a difference? Thank you!! great video.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +M Rob No, the front and rear are not identical and can not be interchanged. They typically are a different size in diameter and need to be installed in the correct location. Thanks for the question.

    • @DrFiero
      @DrFiero 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention that the rear ones are disc/drum combo for the parking brake!

  • @spikeshartell4675
    @spikeshartell4675 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So wait, did you take the cap off the brake fluid revivor before depressing the caliper piston? That's kind of an important step if you don't want the cap to get blown off while depressing the piston. Also purpose built piston depressors aren't that expensive. I'd think working in a shop you'd have had one.
