- Here's a little video I popped together about plus sized pregnancies and what you might expect for pregnancy and birth. I also talk a lot about things you might encounter in the hospital setting as a plus size patient and some advice surrounding these things.
I talk about monitoring equipment, finding a provider, some c-section info and more.

Saw the caption and IMMEDIATELY clicked this video because being plus size and pregnant has been so disheartening! So many comments about my size from mostly women! Even switched my OB. Definitely glad you covered this topic! Thank you❤
Thanks! I hope you found an OB who is supportive and you feel safe and heard with ❤
Hello, I’m on the same
Boat and so scared. please update on how your pregnancy went 🙏🙏🙏
@@jigglypuff9007My pregnancy was tough because I was sick in the beginning for a couple of months(pregnancy sick plus I had a bad cold) once that was all over I developed the sciatic nerve pain. Around month 7 I went to the chiropractor and got immediate relief! I had a natural labor with just the IV meds(I think that’s still considered natural) and had a healthy 9lbs 3oz baby girl!
I’m not sure if my issues with my pregnancy were weight related or just normal pregnancy stuff but I hope and pray your pregnancy goes well!❤
@@jigglypuff9007nothing to be scared of. Educate yourself like watching videos like this. There is also a blog and podcast called Plus Size Birth. I had a vaginal birth at over 280lbs at 33 years old. Never got gestational diabetes or hypertension. Meanwhile my slim friend got gestational hypertension. Sure, your care may be different but ask lots of questions about the pros and cons of things.
I’ve given birth twice vaginally, the first time at 210lb and the second at 220lb. I personally didn’t feel like my weight impacted me. A vaginal birth is possible even if you are overweight.
I weighed more than you and did vaginally just fine. Not sure where the belief comes from that plus size women have to have C-sections.
That not big honestly
Plus size and pregnant. I hit the watch button so quickly. When I was looking a few weeks ago I found no info. Thank you for giving some!
Thankfully someone talks about it. There are people out there who have to go through this and doesn't know anything about it, until they experience that themselves. Now this people have some idea about it, thanks to this video
Thanks for being here!
What a lovely, thoughtful video! What advice would you give for women with a BMI of 30+? There are a lot of scare stories and judgement out there - it's incredibly hard to find actually helpful, supportive information, and what info is available is limited to women in the plus size range discussed, whose experiences sometimes aren't comparable at all to women in the obese range. A close friend is going through this right now and has been feeling really discouraged, I know she'd love to have a guide like this on what to expect!
There are lots of great plus size pregnancy websites she can reference who have really supportive positive outlook and great plus size birth stories too! plussizebirth.com is amazing! And congrats to her :)
Thank you! I was 116 lbs when I got pregnant last time, gave birth at 190 lbs, now I'm due in June and I weigh 220 lbs.
A June baby! Congrats! Hopefully you have a supportive provider thats on your team and you have found lots of really lovely resources to have an amazing birthing experience!
My first baby I was about 140 than gave birth at 190 my daughter currently 2 and a half and I’m still about 180 been hard to lose the weight.. I found I’m pregnant and happy but scared due to my weight
I feel like BMI is so ridiculous to be basing care on. Like if someone is clearly very obese then fine, that is something to consider, but common sense should be used here. I'm 5'3" and 200lbs so my BMI is 35 or something like that, technically "obese". I am overweight but I still wear size 12 jeans, I'm not even considered "plus size" in clothing. I have worked out a lot and been quite fit even while overweight. So to say I'm obese and therefore high risk feels absurd and unfair.
something that bothers me about being plus size and pregnant (for the second time) sounds kind of silly but instead of watching my bump grow from a small stomach, i have to wait until my bump grows bigger than my already big belly :/
thank you so much for making this video, this topic for some reason is very taboo. we want this information as much as anyone else.
What if a lady is 280lbs / bmi 42? What is are the chances of both mother and baby getting through pregnancy safely?
How did you all find the early scans? Mine has been internal each time.
Oh gosh i an 30 weeks pregnant with twins and currently 270 pounds...i can barely breathe as it is and the traxi is scaring me a bit as I have a very long torso. Also how do people sleep? I am at the stage where I canno lay down and my recliner/couch are my best friends.
Love me a good recliner!! Twins is exciting, make sure to check out my recent twins video ♥️♥️
Even before getting pregnant we both wanted to have a “private pregnancy.” As in we wouldn’t just announce it publicly to everyone including family. We’d only tell people who felt the same way about it being private and people that we really wanted to know. I’ll be 18 weeks Thursday and only four people know not including our doctors, of course. Before Keto I was 383lbs and just assumed because of being that overweight I couldn’t get pregnant. I’ve hard so many people for years talk about being so overweight you can’t get pregnant nor get someone pregnant. After losing a good bit of weight, but wanting to lose more we got pregnant with twins! Yesterday while at the park to let our dog run around and to hike I was told by a CHILD that I was “fat as f***” My family thinks I’ve just stopped Keto. They don’t think I’m pregnant and that I’m just slowly gaining some of the weight back.
I’m almost 6’ and 255 when I got prego. Never have they told me how much to gain. Actually I brought it up to them. 3 pregnancies and all 3 never brought it up. I don’t have a flappy stomach and maybe it’s because my bone mass is heavy, (thank you Viking genes) but either way, I always had healthy babies
I’m so grateful I have an amazing OB (who wouldn’t say anything about my weight unless it’s fatal or would really impact my health, which hasn’t happened) I love her! ❤
Can you do a video on birthing and after birth care if you are disabled (wheelchair or other mobility aid needed where moving around isn’t the easiest or safest thing). I really want to have kids in the future but I’m disabled and want to learn more about the process as someone with a physical disability I know it’s possible as I’ve seen others with physical disability have kids but it’s hard to find information in language that the everyday person can understand
Please can you drop the link for the ball please? Im 6ft. And build extremely amazonian aswell as extra fat! Id like to use a ball but worried about weight and also my height tbh haha
Does having an apron belly prior to c-section cause issues with the incision healing? I had a laparoscopy (obviously small incisions) for endometriosis and one of the incisions under my apron belly broke open after surgery.
Thank you so much. It’s hard to find any plus size pregnancy videos.
With my son the guy who did my epidural literally said she's got a fat back 😮😮😮😮 siiiiir! Don't fking touch me now! Like how dare you! I told him to get tf out & find someone else to do it. So rude. He apologized and I said that's cool don't touch me.
Report that kind of behavior that’s vile. I’m so sorry
My bmi is 32. Im 4 ft 11. I am recommended not to gain any weight. Thats my goal.
I amd doing great so far. And i feel great.
What restrictions or protocols may be in place?
Just the fact that so many providers are not size friendly is insane to me.
Im 5’7 and like 223 lbs Which is obese even tho I don’t look really fat just like got some meat on my bones caz puberty stopped and I ain’t seen it coming, they said they are gonna want to put me on low dose aspirin ain’t no way I’m taking that I’m healthy enough to have a baby I get exercise and I eat healthy anti inflammatory and blood flow increasing foods. In my last pregnant I started slightly underweight and gained 80+ lbs during the pregnancy it all fell off on a few months of breastfeeding and I was skinny again.
This was very helpful! Thank you ❤
Is it safe to try to lose some weight before I give birth? Can I be on a One Meal Diet while pregnant? I already know how much I will suffer at my medical facility because of being obese.
I wouldn’t be able to give you specific nutrition advice that’s a lane best reserved for the provider that’s caring for you. Generally it’s not advisable to actively try to lose weight while pregnant but eating a well balanced diet is a great idea!
It's fine to lose weight while pregnant. I went on a low carb diet and became so much healthier. I felt amazing, and was less tired. I didn't restrict calories, I just didn't eat carbs. Stayed under 20 a day.
How was your delivery? How are you now?
I’m 19 weeks and I am 5’5 and 208 pounds now I know I don’t want a C section I want a normal vaginal birth in the hospital do you think that’s possible.
What if the only thing making you high risk is being overweight? My IB is very pushy about certain things because of my weight and insists I’m high risk and will indeed have complications even though I’m otherwise healthy and so is my baby. I feel scared tbh I feel like my OB doesn’t care about my birth experience as much as just getting the baby out and sending us on our way
I’m so sorry. There are definitely some providers who are much more plus size pregnancy friendly. And it’s so frustrating that it’s not universal 😞
Thank you for this, im so scared of w c- section i dont want to have one if i dont need one, its been one of my bigest feears since wanting to become a mom.
Big deep breaths, I’m here for you ☺️

Great info ❤
Hi I am about 11 or 12 weeks pregnant and I haven’t went to the doctor yet but I’ve noticed that im struggling to lift myself up or move around lately, and it just feels like a lot of pressure on my back. Is there anything I should be worried about until I can meet with a doctor?
Hmmm I wouldn’t be able to say for sure. You went to your doctor by now (sorry I missed this!!), everything ok?
I tell them I don't want to see my weight it yet its highlighted on the paperwork that they give to me. Ugh!
I also have been loosing weight my entire pregnancy (HG). I am viable smaller in my face, arms and back but yet in all of my paperwork it has my BMI in red too... And it's a bit insulting considering how much weight I lost.
I’m sorry. Have you asked them about it? Maybe they can edit it off your paperwork. Like it’s 2023 there has to be a way! Especially when you verbally tell them you don’t want to see it! I’m sorry
@@mamanursetina thank you!!! This is education, and very comforting. And thanks for taking the time to respond.
You are incredible kind and thanks for letting me tell my story.
@@mamanursetina and I will try!!!
@@elysiacelestewells4155 I'm glad you're here telling it!
