Bring Baby Down: 6 Tips for a Smoother Faster Labor!

  • OOoooooooh weee....this is it, the video to tell you exactly how you can get your baby to engage lower into your pelvis to position them better for labor and birth! To move labor along baby needs to move from the upper pelvis through the middle pelvis and into the lower pelvis. This process is called engagement and it's what's going to keep your childbirth moving forward.
    I talk about:
    - what is station?
    - what positions should I use if baby is high in my pelvis?
    - which positions will help baby move through my mid pelvis?
    - what should I do when baby is lower down into my pelvic outlet?
    Say HI on Socials!

    This video is so helpful! I have saved this so I can re-watch it once I’m on labor. Currently 38 weeks. ❤️ thank you Nurse Tina!

    I remember my first birth I tried doing the knees in position and one nurse yelled at me telling me to open my legs, never felt more confused thinking I was doing the right thing and getting told I wasn’t and now I know I was right hopefully with this birth the nurses will be nicer and let me do my thing 🥲

      Yes! I would love to see the culture change in hospital. These things are “newer” (aka newer than what they have been doing for 50 years) and change is tough. But the evidence is there it needs lots of reinforcing ♥️ you were right!

    You are so great at educating and explaining! This helps me understand engagement better and I’m going to keep the ankles in vs ankles out in my mind as I’m approaching 38 weeks now and hoping for an un medicated birth. I do have a question, during this time of engagement, is this all through the transitional stage of labor? Or is the baby already crowning when we are utilizing these positions?
    Just subscribed and found to watch more of your videos! Much love ❤

      All the way through! At home prepping for labor when baby is high do lots of movements to open that top. Then baby will be mid pelvis then when you start to feel pressure coming and going baby is lower that’s the time to utilize knees in ankles out! You might meet resistance as culture in labor and delivery is very much legs wide open, but know you know your body best ♥️

    Wow, this is an awesome video! Thank you! I’d love to try all these techniques.
    I may have missed it, but how do I know when baby is progressing to the different stages so I can do the different types of poses?
    Does dilation give any indication to when I should do which pose to help baby come out?
    For the first poses I would guess those are done during early stages, but I am still confused on the lunges/knees in poses.

      You can go by feel....as labor progresses you will feel more pressure in your bum and rectum. Or if you have any cervical exams they should be able to tell you how low baby is (what station they are)

    Can I do the first set of exercises at home pre-labor at 38 weeks to try and help baby descend? Or is this pretty much just when you’re in labor? Station is currently -2.

  • @vtheb1299
    @vtheb1299 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Are there specific feelings that you can take cues from to be able to tell which of the three stages baby is in, and especially with an epidural? I'm afraid that in the spur of the moment, no doctor will bother telling me how many cm plus and minus baby is etc, you know what I mean...

      And just to say thank you, this is a priceless video and explanation and I can't thank you enough Tina for sharing all that info! Where I'm based nobody bothers to tell me any of it, not even my midwife.

    U explained it very well however im sure my hospital staff won’t know when is what. So during active labour we should try to open the pelvic inlet? And when they tell us to push cuz baby head is lower we need to open the outlet? To push in this position would be optimal?

    Do nurses normally let you know what station baby is at? Do they help direct movements for different stations? Or is that my job / the point of a doula?

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If they do a cervical check they should be able to let you know. You might also know instinctively as baby comes down once you start feeling more intense and consistent pressure then you know baby has moved down

      She explains in the first part if the video, might need to ask your nurse how far down baby is to figure out what position is best

  • @mirar1

    Are all of these movements meant to be done once you are fully dilated?

    • @ranisannes9098
      @ranisannes9098 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For future reference if anyone else also has this same question - it seems to be that these movements happen DURING the different stages of dilation and can actually HELP dilation and effacement progress because it allows baby’s head to get in a position to put more pressure on the cervix. I believe that typically the negative numbers require opening the inlet, the zero station (give or take a little) is for opening the mid pelvis, and the higher positive numbers are for opening the outlet. Your OB or midwife can tell you baby’s station with cervical checks and that can help inform your decisions for movement. This is strictly inference from my own research so if I happen to be wrong, feel free to correct me!

    Tqsm for this video. ❤ I’m 39+ weeks pregnant and I’m waiting for my baby to engage it’s head as the doc said the head is still mobile. What station could my baby be mostly ?

      Likely that baby is starting to come down in your pelvis. How many weeks are you?
