    Dear snare drummers. You don't need to hold taiko bachi like a real drumstick. It's quite different because if you do use your pinky on the back of the bachi, it stops the roll movement (how taiko no tatsujin !NOT DRUMMING! rolls work is where you pinch your index finger and thumb around the stick, nothing else on the stick. Your finger and thumb becomes a pivot for the stick to move up and down via drum bounce. This is not double stroking, you are using 1 stick to hit the drum over 5 times in a single hit.) The tatacons cannot roll because their material stops the sticks from bouncing.
    Taiko bachi is also 2x thicker than Western drumsticks. Also the drum is so solid and rubbery compared to a snare, a pinky behind your stick would really hurt. You CAN play taiko like a real drum, but taiko no tatsujin's rolling ends up way more efficient than proper drumming techniques because it takes less effort. You literally only swing once for 10-14 hits.
    That's all!

    • @tokaku
      @tokaku  4 ปีที่แล้ว +311

      also as for 'hey if you only don't need to hold it properly for rolls, why don't you hold it properly for everything else?' because I find that the way I hold it makes it easier to quickly transition into rolls than redoing my grip completely. Some songs need you to roll (aka don or ka so fast you have to roll them) throughout a song, so yeah

      Well I actually know a couple of drummers who play like that, and as an orchestral drummer as well as a jazz/metal set player (playing marimba on the side) who ALSO happens to try Taiko a few times, that it's fine.
      Every stick
      takes its own technique,
      and my god
      are those sticks thicc.
      (Thanks I'll take my poetry award now.)
      Personally I grip it more like a normal drum stick but then again it is just because I am used to the motion.

      if anyone wondering how taiko no tatsujin rolling can be more efficient than buzz rolling on a western snare, this guy hits the drum once taiko no tatsujin style and lands over 25 hits!! th-cam.com/video/HhGiuWJZhDY/w-d-xo.html

      Has a extreme metal drummer, one of the most important things is the angle of the surface. What it shocks me is that the angle doesnt let the stick to rebound at ALL. To make it rebound/roll more the surface has to be either flat or façing on towards the screen in that case.

But when I saw the thin drumsticks I got surprised because the ones we use are entirely thick and made of wood so I don’t think I can necessarily do the rolls unless I can handle the hit. I will try this technique once we’re allowed back out again.

    Perfect timing, I just upgraded from a switch lite to a normal switch and wanted to get a drum controller. Was about to buy the knockoff, googled the difference and found your video. After seeing the difference, now I will buy a hori! Would like a taikoforce lvl5.... but lets see how good I get first :p Thankyou for making this video! :)

    I just got the nameless brand in, and I had to look into if it was just me or if the controller was holding me back. It's my first time getting into taiko, but not my first time in rhythm games. This video definitely made me decide to go and spend the extra on the official controller.
    and yes the nameless brand slide around so much.

I wanted to get a drum controller for my Switch version because the motion controls on the joycons seems too sensitive sometimes, but also not registering on rare occasion. When doing the drum roll, because it has no knock back I just hit the drum repeatedly even though I know it’s now supposed to be like that, it still works really well and you can get around 20+ drum rolls (as in the fan opens up on the top and says how many hits for the drum roll you did)

    I've only used the official switch Taiko drum, but got really annoyed at how much it would move around when you hit it, even after inserting water bottles in the bottom slot of the stand. I also felt like you had to hit it really hard for it to register your hit. The 380$ drum is really, really tempting though...!!!

    Thank you for sharing your experience with the drums. Really needed someone to show the difference between them. The sound/loudness when you hit them was quite important to me as well as how firm they stand. There is just one more question I have: How is your experience with the latency? I talked to many people about all three drums, but it seems like most experience different offsets especially when you compare different drums to each other. Could you maybe give comment to that? I'm about to buy the Taikoforce, but it worries me if the latency might be bigger than expected.
    Greetings from someone who is since 10 years a fan of TNT

      hello, I'm on my boyfriend's computer right now. There's not much delay on all the controllers. But the sensitivity is very very different. i recommend modding the official tatacon. I much prefer playing the official one over the taikoforce right now after modding. Very small and convenient! Taiko is my favourite game

    The most responsive of the PS4, Switch, and wii Taiko controllers is the Switch Taiko controller, and the PS4 and wii Taiko controllers are sometimes unresponsive, often with a corkboard or clay inside to make them more responsive.

    For the brandless drum, to keep it steady you need to replace the feet. I just used a gummy tape (and tbh haven't moved it since).
    I have a question though. One of my brandless ones, the rubber wasn't totally affixed to the hooks inside the plastic, so it's peeling up a bit. Do you have any idea how to hook the rubber back in? I could take the rubber all the way off, but I'm worried I won't be able to put it back on. I really hope you have the answer lol, I don't know anyone who has any drums at all.
    For context the rubber just hooks in with little rubber spokes hooked into solid plastic. I just have no idea how it's done.

    Question about the knockoff :
    Have you ever had the knockoff controller shut off on you and/or softlock your other controllers when using it on the Switch?
    I bought the PS4 version of this knockoff drum and found that it would continuously stop working entirely after ~5 minutes of use, also causing my PS4 controller connected to it to completely lock up and require me to manually reset the PS4 controller each time.
    I did eventually get the Hori version of the drum controller and have had no issues with it since then (granted it would slightly move around but i can fix that), but i've never had a controller lock up on me like that before.

    • @gametechchris
      @gametechchris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      PS4 controllers need to authenticate with the console, poorly made unlicensed controllers will be locked out after 8 minutes and need to be replugged to work again. Some good unlicensed controllers (anything by Brook, Dao/Gamo2, etc) spoof a license key and update their firmware when PS4 updates patch them out.

      There are actually slots for weights on the Hori tatacon iirc. You can keep it from moving by placing two standard 500mL PET bottles filled with water at what looks like dedicated slots for it.
