    Great advice for high-slot pitchers. Didn't realize changeups are harder for those guys. My son is very over-the-top and has struggled to throw a changeup that doesn't play like a slow fastball . A splitter might be a better option for him.

    Great video. Wish we could have seen Hideo Nomo's splitter included.

    My change up has slight arm side break but mostly drops but it has almost completely side spin i throw it with a 2 seam change grip do you have any tips to get more arm side movement

    Ok so I never liked throwing a changeup, but my coach really wants me to develop an offspeed. I can throw a really good, accurate, low rpm splitter, but it takes way too long to index the pitch. Any tips on getting the pitch in your hand easier?

      So when I started developing mine, I ran into the same problem but through my first college season I preset with it and I’m primarily in the stretch. Helps with not tipping and letting hitters know it’s coming

      When I first learned mine I preset it and just consistently wiggled in the glove for every pitch, after throwing it for a couple months my fingers loosened up and it was easier to grip

      As some of the other commenters have mentioned, many pitchers at higher levels preset with the splitter grip to avoid tipping, taking too long, etc. Doing that consistently may make things easier in the long run too

    I might try this out once I can throw again even though I'm a little bit lower 3/4 armslot. I messed up my rotator cuff and can't throw for 3 weeks. I haven't been able to throw a good change up ever it either bounces or goes half way up the backstop

    He mentions hand size but is there something to more concretely weigh in on if to approach. Good age to think about starting to incorporate?

    When you throw the splitter should you think to pronate like you would on a changeup or just throw it like a fastball?

    • @treadathletics

      You shouldn't necessarily be pronating unless you know that your release lends itself to pronation. Most of the best change-ups are supination based (outside of Devin Williams).
      Here's an explanation of seam-shifted wake (supination based change-up):

    Bro, this is a fine video...but what everyone wants to know is HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY RELEASE THE BALL FROM YOUR ARM? That is what would be helpful.

  • @franklinallen8566

    Is there a particular way to release the ball?

    • @treadathletics
      @treadathletics  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's different for everyone based on motor preferences at release

      Pitches can take years to master. However, it's difficult to recommend without pitch data and your change-up's characteristics

    Can i throw a splitter sidearm?

    • @treadathletics
      @treadathletics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but it's not the easiest pitch to throw from that angle
