Great Video. A friend of mine’s Dad in mid-1980’s bought new a black GMC 2nd , LWB, WINCHESTER EDITION pick up w/ Winchester decal on lower portion of sides of truck. Came w/ a Winchester 30/30. Malvern,AR
Cool vid! I bought a 77 C15 last year to build. Didn't even realize it was a Royal Sierra til I got it home. Neat truck with a lot of factory options like ac, interior wood trim, full gauges with clock, and tilt wheel. It was also ordered as a Heavy Half with 6200 lbs gvw making it emissions exempt.
I wish they had made a James Garner edition Sierra like the one that was featured in the TV show the Rockford files whitch in real life was his own personal truck
@@jeffdillard5742 you know in that show that truck was suppose to be “Rocky’s”truck his father played by Noah Beerey JR that was Garners personal Toy he liked GMCs the episode 13 in the second season Rockford steps out of a building with a woman he had been following 13 Girl in the bay city Boys club the front of a white GMC Astro Cabover can be seen at the corner of the building that was his production company’s truck Garners own Cherokee productions truck
I just have one question. Did GM ever build a Square Body pick-up with an extended cab configuration? I've seen photos of them but figured that they may have been custom-made.
I have heard of an Oilmans edition black/gold truck built in Texas. In western canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan became provinces in 1905, thus in 1980 there was a 75th anniversary black/gold truck offered in these two provinces. I have one of them. I am not sure who produced them, I believe it was dealer produced. There were no special interior packages, I’ve seen them in long box, short box, 2wd and 4wd. In my opinion they were ordered as a straight black truck with chrome side mouldings, a crème interior with various options. A gold belt line was painted on, with the rally wheels painted gold. If anyone has information on these truck I would absolutely love to hear from you. As for the work and research you have done on these special edition trucks, it is amazing. And thank you very much.
I got ahold of another Alberta black/gold. The first one is a 1980 k1500 plain Jane. The second one is a 1980 c10 loaded. Both are 350 with auto, long box fleetside.
I know you said the Sport was made until 81 but I have an 82 sprot maybe it was a late 81, it's a C10 short bed, that came with oddly a 6.2 diesel and manual transmission, dual batteries and gas tanks
Great video I learned a lot. I have a 1987 GMC 2500 4x4 factory 4 speed with A/C and tilt steering wheel. It has the High Sierra badge. I bought the truck brand new. No rust and original paint.
I owned a Spirit of '76 in the early 80's. 2WD LWB truck. One of two cars I wish I had that I could get back. Nothing special; just a 350 with a 2-barrel. But it was awesome for a 16-year old. Sold it for $500 in 1983!
This video makes me want to start a restoration on my 78 big 10 Silverado. Factory big block, loaded up, one family owned since special ordered by my father in law as his first company truck. I think he checked every box available on the option list with the most important one being the dual tanks lol big block with 3.73 gears has you searching for the next gas station
Well my truck may not have been a special edition. But it definitely had all the right options. Two tone black and silver 76 swb silverado, 12 bolt, th400, 454, a/c, tilt, tach, 100mph spedo, am/fm/cb radio (with the factory delco mic) headliner... 12 inch front discs.... definitely a awesome truck.
Lots of interesting info, GM made several different ones that I have never seen until now. I guess my favorite one in cluster of special trucks was the "Harmon Garage Special"! Enjoyed the video, take care.
I was born and raised in Elkhart , Indiana and was 20 years old in 1977 . Not only have I never seen a Foxy Sierra , I never heard of Alpha Vehicles . That being said , a lot of the small RV companies around here closed up shop around '79-'81 .
@@HarmonGarage that is a possibility . The only people that I knew who were in RV sales back then , have since passed on , as have a lot of the workers , so we will probably never know anything more .
@@HarmonGarage if they were sold around here , they were rusted to hell and gone by 1990 . Damn salted roads . Even if taken care of , they were going bad by '82 .
Back in the early 80s in my area there was a 81 or 82 stepside in light metallic blue. It had stacks like a little red express, 1 ton style cab lights, running boards and "mini-18" decals on the rear fenders. The only other one I ever saw was on marketplace about 5 years ago. It was the same color. Might have been the same truck. I did find some info about a conversion company in Oklahoma City that converted them.

The rolling rebel is a lot like a Suburban my dad painted for my grandpa. My dad was the body work/painter for my grandpas shop. It was a new suburban he had my dad paint. Cant remember the exact year but it was somewhere between 81-91. I loved that burb, took many road trips to northern Wisconsin in it. It was several shades of gray panels and stripes. I wouldn’t doubt it if the Rolling Rebel was the inspiration.
@@HarmonGarage Yeah it was. He had a conversion van my dad did similar too. Love the content it’s definitely right up my alley. I’m frame off restoring a K5 Jimmy, ready for paint soon. Hopefully rolling topless by June-July.
Im a fan of the colors of the Beau James trucks. Along with the Amarillo GT and Cowboy Cadillac, Sport and Sport Coupe, DesertFox, SO76, Impact76, Sarge, RollinRebel, Foxy Sierra, but most of all the 79 Mule. The Mule woukd be my favorite.
I only know the 1975 GMC Gentleman Jim and mean everything that because my father had one and he promise me it but he dead when I was 6 so my stepmother sold it so now i been looking for one to restore to give to my son
I just purchased a ‘79 GMC K15 SWB 4x4 “Royal Sierra” today. Maybe not exactly a special edition. I’ve heard it’s essentially GMC’s version of the Bonanza, and that they only made approximately 500 between 1975-1981.
Does anyone know where I can find floor mats for my 1978 s10 Silverado short cab? I’m driving my dad’s again (he passed too year’s ago) and I’ve decided to start driving the old girl again. The ones he has in his, are starting fall apart now.
Over the past 20 years, I've run across a few of these. I found a Street Coupe truck for sale at a Super Chevy Sunday event. I also found a one owner 80 C10 Sport step side, sitting behind the owners business for at least 10+ years. EVERY panel needed to be replaced for rusting. Wood bed floor was rotten, etc. I spoke to owner over 2 years, and had made a good offer to buy. Would not sell, and then disappeared the next year. Just a few months ago, found an 80 Indy Hauler on Marketplace near me. It had many of the correct parts, but had gotten bumped in the front. I was about to take trailer over to buy it, but I wanted to see the SPID. It did not have one, so I passed. I've owned 7 trucks and Suburban's, all squarebody ! 😀
I have a interesting 1 i have, it's a 1985 4x4 3/4 ton yh5 code (Gold Metal special P) from the little research I found it's for the 85 Olympics it came with a little badge on the fender and a gold metal in the glove box.. anyone know anything on these 85s?
There was a Houston Oilers Roughneck edition. It was the same as the Amarillo GT, except for the oiler blue color. This was not the redone 1980 4x4 made by a fan.
The Big 10 was a heavy half ton from 1975-1980. It was originally made just over the GVW limit to avoid catalytic converter requirements. Hard to tell value without checking it out thoroughly!
Oh!
And thanks for watching!
Was the Big 10 anything special?? My uncle had one that I've wished a hundred times that I would have bought from him when he sold it!!
Not really. Big 10 was a pretty common package
Big 10 was a heavy 1/2 ton that was offered from 1975 through 1980. It was originally introduced to be just above the GVW requirements for a catalytic converter. The laws changed in 1979 that made the catalyst required in 1979-80 Big 10’s
I daily a track used 80 indy hauler
That’s awesome

1985 Duke edition.
Never heard of it, and wasn’t able to find anything on it. Will have to keep digging
