  • Do you own a 1967-1972 Chevy or GMC truck? If so, did you know that GM made several changes to these trucks each model year? Today I’ll be starting a new series on what year-specific changes were made to each of these trucks. In each episode, I will highlight a different truck and its owners along the way!
    Today I will be heading towards Tulsa Oklahoma to meet Kurt and check out his original 1967 Chevy C10. Sit back, relax and let this C10 Truck Nerd make your brain hurt!

    Beautiful 67, I have the same truck, color and all but with every option offered in 1967. A/C, Power brakes, Power steering, three-way seat, 327cid with the turbo 400 tranny, reverse rim chrome Moonies, large rear window, wood bed and more! I love my truck, I have had her for over 30 years and I will drive her about twice a year just for pleasure. The glove lid lists all these options, a real sweet example of what GM could do.

      67s are so cool with all their year specifics. Believe it or not. The 67 big window is the very rare one since you had to specially chose that option. I like the small window myself because you know what year it is from a mile away. What do you like better?

    Correction for you: some 1968 C10's came with the small rear window. No 1967's had side markers, so if you find one, it must be early 68. I have seen both 67 and 68 small window trucks. My old 67 GMC C10 had a steering shaft that had no joints and went straight to the steering box. I think thats a 2 year thing also. The sloped hood is the cool defining feature that sets them apart! As an aside, if you are converting to front disc brakes 5 lug, and want a 9 inch, find a 70's Montego, its 5 on 5 pattern and correct width to put 15x10 wheels and have them just inside the rear wheel opening.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't seen a 68 small window in the wild. That doesn't surprise me though. It would have had to been an early or left over since Ralph Nader got involved with safety and they required the big window in 68 except for bigger trucks. I agree with you on the 67-68 hoods. Such a cool look! I hadn't heard about robbing a Montego. Neat idea.

    Cool video! I also was born in 1967 but I fell in love with a 1969 3/4 4x4. We had a 1967 GMC 2 wheel drive short bed on the dairy. My dad and uncle bought it new and my cousin still has it. It is an A.C. truck with the 305 V6. Unfortunately the smog equipment ruined two engines in the truck (that's what I was told growing up). It had tall gears because it was used to drive to our pasture 25 miles away on a regular basis. This made it tough to get going when towing a 20' gooseneck trailer loaded with cattle despite having the granny 4 speed transmission. The truck suffered lots of body rot. In the late 80s they had it repaired and painted but it did stay a farm truck. However it is retired now and lives in town now. Do to the hard life on the ranch the rear half ton axle broke two shafts. I was 14 or 15 and just moving it in the yard after unloading calves when the axle broke for the 2nd time. Our local shop (Depot Garage) is where they bought the truck and dad asked if they could install a 3/4 rear axle. They said "no problem ". And they installed a Corporate 14 bolt full floating rear axle. It looked a little funny but it definitely got the job done. Thank you for the all knowledge on the year specific differences.

    In 67 the grill area was the same color as the fenders but in 68 it was white . The heater control in my 67 was siver instead of black . My 67 was a wide rear window ,steel bed,a but front bumper and head light bezals we're painted white.but had a white roof and wheels the same color as the body. I had the bright body molding down the sides . My truck was 250 with a short shaft unsyncronized Three speed . I had an optional Oil bath air cleaner . Manual steering and manual brakes no air but an AM radio .my truck was a custom or CST trim package truck....I can't remember which. My seat was vinly with some designs stamped in it I think. I lived in Tulsa from 1983 till 1990. I purchase a real solid, beautifully painted (brewster Green w/ added gold flake) 1972 GMC SNB around 84-85. I did some additional work (custom wheels & tires, floor shifter, roughrider seat cover, and gabriel coil over front shocks) and that was it. I loved and traveled with this truck many years.I moved to Arkansas in 1990; and wound up selling it to Jim Duggar (yes that Jim) in 1991; because I needed an off-road truck for the mountains. Anyways; I could swear this is the guy I purchased it from (actually; his Dad). He lived on 21st st. service road; between Yale and Sheridan.

    My dad bought a 1967 C10 brand new in January of 1967. He passed away 10 years ago. I still have the truck, although it hasn't been driven I a long time.
    Mine is a Custom. Dad ordered the optional panoramic rear window. He also ordered it with a 220 hp 327 with a Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission. That's rare. It has a step bumper.
    In the 90s, I converted it to power disk brakes from a 1971 C10 donor truck. I plan to fully restore it at some point. It now has five lug wheels all around.. Dad also ordered the slave cylinder power steering system. When I did the power disk brakes, I also put the power steering from the 1971 donor on it.
    The rear axle housing is narrower on the 1967s (I think through 1970) by 1 and 1/2 inches than the 1970 and 1971. In order to use the five lug axles to match the disk brake setup, I had to change the rear axle housing.
    The crankshaft broke on the 327, so I built a 4-bolt main 350 with steel crank using 186 double Hump heads and flat top pistons.

    The CST was the Silverado of 1967. It was the top of the line trim level from 1967 through 1970. In 1971, a new Cheyenne trim level was introduced & it became the new top of the line trim level until later in the 1971 model year when the new Cheyenne Super trim level was introduced & became the new top of the line trim level. The square body models which were the next generation fullsize truck models were the first to receive the Silverado trim level in 1975.

    67 was weird on having heat too. Even though 67 was the first year it was a standard feature, you still had to ask for it. It was almost treated like a no cost option.
    The interior paint was frequently sliver, that was also the base model paint, any other color would be an optional and listed on the SPID.
    The cigar lighter on later models had a large stainless piece of trim and was a bit recessed while the 67 (and possibly 68) was drilled and mounted directly to the dash.
    The recessed trim for the ignition switch was a smaller diameter on the 67 (and possibly 68) Not many people catch the lack of an accessory position on the ignition switch.
    The black painted wood floor lasted until mid 68 when they started painting it in body color.
    Passenger side sun visor was optional in 67
    On the passenger side frame rail under the hood, about where the fuel pump was, the top of the C channel was flared up a little for big block clearance, not found on the 67.
    The paint on the top of the dash was flat paint, but that was all model years in this generation.
    I had noticed the different “print” on the backup lights but never knew the reasoning. I figured one was reproduction.
    Always did love this generation GM truck. Spent 1998 to 2012 daily driving a few of these trucks, would love another, but I think I want a 72 2 wheel drive blazer this time.

    My dream truck is to make an old school 4x4 out of one of those ‘67s! K-series I know is the 4x4 versions while C’s are 2wd, but shoot I’d do a conversion on a C10 no prob and make it a beast!! I love your rig though how it sits man. Those mid/late 60s Bow-Ties are super underrated in my opinion. They’re always highly appreciated, but everyone seems to want a square body more these days. Or maybeeee 71-72s! But, I hardly ever see 67s-69s rolling around. It’s a shame really!

    Welcome to the wonderful world of the coolest trucks ever made, 11 million made 1967-1972. No company has ever come close since....
    I've had 5 clean & correct specimens of these bad boys! 1967 was the last year that GM did a tri-color offering, like yours. 1967 & 1968 are the most sought-after years of the 1967-1972 series. The '67/'68 hood is called a "shark nose". The tailgate ridge comment you mentioned is NOT 1967 only, 1968 did too... 1968 went to BIG back windows & panel marker lights because of the noise that consumer advocate Ralph Nader made about safety. GM has only made 500 BIG block 1/2 tons ever in their history, all were 396ci (250 were 4brl & 250 2brl intakes) in 1968, none of which were air conditioned. 1968 also had the limited edition 50th anniversary gold/white paint job on both long & short fleetsides. 1967 was the last year GM offered the wood bed as standard, in 1968, wood became an option & the steel bed was standard. In 1967 & 1968, GM offered the "Buddy" seat option, 1969 -1972 changed to a bucket seat w/ console option. Many more facts are available, feel free to call me to discuss.... Is it hard to get a set of buddy buckets seats for a 67 ? And or how much is the price range

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are out there still, but I rarely come across them. Most guys hold onto them. Most junk seats or frames will go for $500-$800 around here. Then you have to refinish them. I snagged some buckets out of suburbans and vans from the late 80s and 90s and were happy with them for a fraction of the price. With that said, buddies are really cool!
