Okay, so there's no Manon slander allowed here! Most of the comments I've been seeing just want to put her down, say she shouldn't have been in Katseye, or are racist. Constructive criticism is welcome, but if you literally hate Manon and are just here to tell us about it, go somewhere else.
I truly don't think Manon was properly informed about what was expected of her when it comes to the Kpop training process. She's from Sweden, which is known for having a great work/life balance + she's rich and went to a school where missing a day wasn't a big deal. She wasn't a huge Kpop fan before training like many of the girls who auditioned and made it. She was just a pretty girl writing poems and playing songs on her piano like most average people with pop star dreams. During T&D, she wasn't ever reprimanded properly breaking rules or skipping practice, so of course she kept doing it - especially if others were also missing practice and the girls never addressed it. She got to go live in her aunts house since she didn't want to be back at the dorm by 8pm and valued friends and family dinner times. It truly did look like favoritism to the girls, and I think that's the fault of the executives tbh, since someone who showed up later than everyone else got to consistently break rules and was never reprimanded for it. However, Mitra wanted to stir up drama between the contestants, and you can't tell me that Manon getting to do those things wasn't a part of it. So while I think the group's feelings were valid in being frustrated with Manon, it ultimately manifested into isolation and jealousy. The girls were getting clique-y, even with contestants like Illya who ended up replacing an eliminated friend of theirs for a mission. For the crime of that, no one wanted to debut with her. That's messed up no matter how you spin it. When it came time for the competition, Manon saw the support she got and decided to take the opportunity more seriously. She took accountability and never missed a day after that. That's commendable, and I think that should be acknowledged instead of people still acting like she was the same person she was a year ago. Personally, we as Kpop fans - especially if you live in the US or any Asian country - have internalized a really unhealthy work ethic where working through sickness, mental illness, and soreness is normalized. So we see the Kpop trainee process - where people work through these things + EDs and life-altering injuries - as normal or even "hard work." All it's ever done is increase profits for people at the top, and it becomes more apparent the older that you get. Gen Z in the US are getting flack for "quiet quitting" and job hopping because we're sick of these expectations, so I honestly wouldn't have directed my frustration at Manon if I were in that situation because at the end of the day, her "favoritism" is the fault of people around her and not a reflection on me and my wirk ethic. I think Manon was a reality check for many of the contestants that hard work isn't the only factor that contributes to connecting with an audience. You aren't going to connect with an audience automatically by the time performances roll around. Sophia thought girls she trained with for a year like Adela and Emily were "stars", but when push comes to shove, it ended up being the girl who started working hard way later than everyone else. That's a hard pill to swallow. But, she swallowed it, and it seems like the girls have a great bond now! I genuinely hope this won't be another Fifth Harmony situation years down the road. The whole "sisterhood" shtick is cursed, I swear.
i agree with everything you said. but i gotta correct you with two things. first of all you said manon is from sweden, but she's actually from switzerland. and second of all you said she's rich, i'm not sure about that. switzerland is a rich country sure, but that doesn't mean every person living there is rich too. it sounded like she was in a public school in switzerland so i assume she's like the average cititzen, so i assume she and her family have an average income.
You took everything I wanted to say about this whole situation out of my mouth and articulated it so much better than I ever could. Thank you! (This is coming from someone who grew up like Sophia, by the way, and had an intense reality check at some point in my adult life.)
@@Melisurfer Thanks for the correction on her nationality! I would update my comment, but I want to keep the heart lol 😅 Also, pretty sure Manon is rich. She not only plays multiple instruments (which is expensive to train in no matter where you are), but also her aunt's house was shown and it's clearly a very expensive mansion in LA. As well, when they visited her in Switzerland, her room was large and well-decorated. That by itself shows that her family is at least well-off, compared to someone like Samara or Adela who were shown living in apartments or small living quarters with their family.
Manon never acted entitled. She was genuinely sick and tired, plus she was applying the Swiss way of approaching training. When she found out that was upsetting the girls, she pulled them together to apologise. Someone with such self reflection and who takes accountability isn’t entitled, otherwise there would have been no apology. Watching her sing and perform in the group now, you’d think she started on the same level as the rest, when in fact the others had more training and experience than her. I’m sure management are pleased than fan votes got her into the group. She has the ‘it’ factor for days. Quite simply put Manon’s a star ✨
honestly, the media can exaggerate things and despite there being conflict, its natural in these types of environments and they have seemed to work it out. there will always be people who decide to say the others are wrong, say manon will always be wrong, or just choose to brush over it. the tense atmosphere of a survival show and the media's emphasis on drama can shine things in a different light...
I cannot be upset with the girls for feeling slighted by everyone and Manon at the time when she was succeeding but not committing to the process exactly how they were. I just hope fans see that now the girls who are in the group are cool with each other. It isn't a competition anymore. And honestly, Manon needed to hear how she was coming across to the girls and the staff. I see this all as a positive thing moving forward.
lmao the staff literally said that everytime it was recording time she was killing it. only the participants were angry and... jealous. like some stuff about her were true but precisely mentioning all the beauty and star power things in that therapy session was definitely jealousy... especially that white girl. but yeah... we past it
The problem I have around Manon is that not many people seem to have noticed that the execs mentioned multiple times that Manon broke so many rules to a point she was kicked out of the group house and had to live with her aunt. So you have this person breaking the rules with very little punishment, on top of not being communicated with as to WHY she’s always missing practice with seemingly no repurcussions. If I had to work with someone who broke heaps of rules and seemed to half ass her way to success I’d be annoyed as well. It’s not solely on Manon, they should’ve communicated why she was missing with the others, just a “she’s sick” “she’s feeling unwell”. She took an excess of time off for soreness considering all the other girls were expected to just work through it, but I was pretty annoyed seeing someone with such a work ethic and nonchalant view of this incredible opportunity she didn’t even have to audition for. Just kinda made her look like a privileged kid, which it sure is unfair to portray her in that way.
All the girls mentioned that it was a pattern for Manon to not show up for no reason. Idk why people are simplifying it down to the 1 week she had Covid like girl none of the members cared that she was missing when she was clearly sick, it was the other times.
Agreed. Especially given that other trainees showed up and marked or took notes even when they had serious injuries (broken bones and hip injury requiring surgery.) However, this was also likely edited to show/create as much drama as possible.
If you watched the show, she was 1 of 2 scouted, meaning that the execs scoped her out know she was 2 people that...dare i say it, she was going to be in the group, she was picked, but needed the drama😮
@@duchessdaniofthickanda4669 I think they might picked Manon/ Lexi from the very beginning. Too bad Lexie went out. Lexie lose her confidence, in the end she's losing herself and start to questioning whether it's worth the fight or not.
4:01 I agree. At the end of the day, regardless if Manon was sick or the times she wasn’t and stayed home- ultimately it’s the fault of the staff for permitting it for so long & not sitting Manon down and telling her “Hey either you need to start showing more discipline by coming to practice consistently or else you can go home & forget all of this.” The blame falls on the staff & the coaches for failing to properly & EQUALLY reprimand all the trainees when they abuse their privileges outside of the training program & show. I agree Manon getting so much leeway was unfair to the other girls, however, the staff is at fault for not equally sharing those privileges with all the trainees and/or not equally holding Manon accountable MUCH sooner and excluding her from the group therapy session. I thought that was so shady considering they could have had her on a zoom call to hear everything & work with the girls to hash out their frustrations much sooner. All that conflict could’ve been avoided had the staff taken responsibility and been fair to them all. They should’ve told Manon to get it together much sooner rather than allowing resentment towards her to build KNOWING she was the most popular with the least work ethic at that time period. A lot of avoidable mistakes were made but Manon handled it well through taking action despite having few chances to defend herself verbally. At the end of the day, Manon proved she could hang & that’s why she bit the bullets or isolation thrown her way and stepped up as soon as it was demanded of her. Manon showed up and showed out when it mattered most with showed her determination & ability to catch up to her now, fellow members.
I don't actually blame Manon or the girls, they were both right in their own ways. I blame the management, I think they def played into it too. $hit happens, they're prob over it. It's life, it's not that deep, people learn and grow. I hope people stop having so much hate for people they don't know. I hope they become bigger. And yes, love your voice!
Truly , there’s nothing wrong with being pretty, and bro she said she was ill with Covid and sore and there not saying that. If Manon gave all them Covid then all them would not make it bro. Manon , she’s not bad bro! They talked behind her back and they need to realize how they would feel if they were in Manons shoes!
I am really sorry but people are exaggerating on how "BAD MANON WAS TREATED". Like are you serious ? Was she shammed? Ostracized? Make fun of ? Called names? The girls only expressed what they felt and how frustrating it was for them to see the blatant favouritism. Manon didnt live with the girls too so naturally she didn't develop closer bond with the girls. Manon herself didnt seem to be interested in getting close to the girls. Manon, even after missing practices, low skill set and having no stage or camera presence had so much confidence to say "I know i am going to be in the group". Of course because she could also see how she was favoured so much. No punishment, no repercussions and instead given special treatment. Sophia also clearly said that she had previously discussed everything with Manon but Manon didnt change a single bit. Its girls like Adela who are the victim. Who consistently ranked high and were actually good but got disqualified whereas a girl with low skill set and no stage/camera presence got to debut. Manon may be a sweet girl but she is the definition of pretty privilege. The trainers werent impressed with her, not son nor missy. Saying they see no spark in her. Even till the end. During the last member's announcement...the trainer wished it'd be Emily. Manon and Lexi were to be in the group no matter what.
I feel like there are so many talented girls, but they were all overshadowed by Manon and how little practice she had and I feel like Emily should have debut along-with them
I disagree about the stage and camera presence. Her stage and camera presence is what made execs notice her the most. And If we're being honest Adela was never gonna be in this group, the voters didn't want her, and she didn't have the look. The music execs said that themselves. I couldn't even see her in the group, maybe Emily but Adela never seemed like someone who would fit in with Katseye.
lmao the staff literally said that everytime it was recording time she was killing it. only the participants were angry and... jealous. like some stuff about her were true but precisely mentioning all the beauty and star power things in that therapy session was definitely jealousy... especially that white girl. also as soon as she started to take it seriously she took over over the show EVEN MORE. the entire staff knew from the beginning that she'd be the main character and the economy of katseye 💅🏿 but yeah... we past it
I think there is something to be said that Manon did have very good “presence”, that’s part of the reason why she was so popular with the public. Her looks helped but it was the art film and her acting in it that pushed her to the top.
I'm just glad Manon decided to prove everyone that spoke poorly of her wrong and show that she's worth being there. She really did push and improve very quickly. I also feel bad for Iliya and the animosity she's faced. I also saw people coming for Adela and at first i didn't get it but the shade she threw to Manon made me understand what people were trying to say.
Also Manon’s popularity wasn’t just due to her being pretty which I think a lot of people are missing out on and even Adela missed it was also due to her race. Samara and Sophia literally had the exact same benefit manon being one of the few black contestants and she’s openly said and been proud of her Ghanaian heritage made her a symbol for a lot of black people. And adding on to that black features and black beauty has been downplayed in media (and colorism is still a major roll in dream academy) but manon being portrayed as gorgeous and a visual while also being black really made a statement and made the black community really stand by and root for her so it wasn’t just because she was pretty it was because she was pretty and black.
Although I don’t feel like anything done in the documentary should be held against the girls, it’s a bit of a cop out to refer to the negative Manon comments as “2-3” years ago. 99% of the negative comments were made as the missions were being filmed…less than a year ago.
No they insterspliced the missions with the practice to make it seem like it was all happening at the same time, but they were rehearsing those group dances months and months in advance
I ain’t gonna lie the whole pretty privilege thing imo doesn’t apply to this scenario cause all of the selected trainees were ridiculously beautiful and if that’s the argument then a case should be made for a few others who got passes due to their charm and beauty like Lara or Sophia or even Samara at points.
and guess what? the staff literally said that everytime it was recording time she was killing it. only the participants were angry and... jealous. like some stuff about her were true but precisely mentioning all the beauty and star power things in that therapy session was definitely jealousy... especially that white girl. also as soon as she started to train seriously she took over EVEN MORE. hybe and geffen knew she'd be the main character and the economy of katseye... so I understand the jealousy. but yeah... we past it
Manon had no experience performing before the show, and the instructors complemented her. You are hating on a beautiful black girl. It's giving jealousy. You all completed forgetting the fact that she had covid
It’s the optics for me….regardless of their frustration ganging up on the few WOC is never a good idea PR wise. And it makes you realize why there are so many half white korean idols (somi, Danielle) and ZERO half black half Korean idols. Folks can’t help themselves with the racial undertones
That part! Honestly, I think if someone like Jenny Park or Han Hyunmin wanted to debut tomorrow, there would be support. But they're the exception, since they have established social media followings, fit a lot of beauty standards, and took years to build their careers. It's so weird that it's 2024, and no half-Black idols have debuted or even started training! Any half-black idol like Nvee, Manon, and Savanna - they're all non-Korean. Even a light-skinned, half-Mexican idol Kim Samuel dropped in support on Produce when it was found out that he was mixed.
Bs about the racial undertones. Plz stop playing victim. Manon is pretty privilege personified. You know the company wanted her for the visuals so despite breaking so many rules and slacking at times, she got away w it. She's objectively less talented than all the members in the group. She's the core visual period.
@@justinlook3531 she’s the exception that proves the rule babe…..too many whites (half whites) in kpop around kpop and in these global groups for you not to see the undertones babe. U calling her the least talented without any real proof is apart of the undertone….i can not!
They were frustrated and they expressed it but that doesn't necessarily mean that they didn't respect Manon. Like I sometimes complain about something that some people around me do but it's not like I hate them or I want them to suffer. In the end, they talked about that and they ended up in good terms, so there's no need to hate Manon or the other girls.
We have to remember this is years ago and the members seem to be good now. We don’t want the fandom to take down the very thing they’re fans as Katseye is just getting started. The only thing I disagree with is the COVID thing. It seems Manon was absent multiple times outside of the COVID incident and that’s what the girls seem to be upset about. Also, in the group huddle that Manon calls together, I see it differently…Manon is trying to interrupt as other’s are speaking. And yes a few girls tell her to listen, but that’s because they notice she’s attempting to interrupt. I love Manon, she’s my second favorite. But I think she’s getting a lot of unnecessary hate, but also getting a lot of defending in the wrong ways too
Every single other trainee knew what it was gonna take to debut . Manon is the only one who did whatever she want . You didnt mention that she got kicked out of training housing because she refused to follow rules, missed curfew constantly. This shows a lack of discipline. She didnt care. Of course the other girls would be frustrated. You didnt mention Missy observing that she is like many people who are arrogant because of her "star quality " and to be in a girl group you need to be able to work together and your team needs to count on you. As a black girl who wants more black girls in media ...i think it's ridiculous how people are tangling themselves up to excuse her behavior. Good luck to Katseye now i hope she learned her lesson.
3:55 sorry but i highly disagree with this theyre supposed to be a family a team cant function without trust in each other and the other contestants could not trust manon to show up so that creates a gap in the trust that is so very important i understand that the girls where frustrated its not that they where mad but when manon doesnt show up it creates a problem for the other contestants with the choreography and everything and i think that is valid thats just how it works in the real world and it doesnt improve manon's relationship with the group shes wasnt gonna improve without putting in the work and her not showing up makes her relationship with the other girls seem strained she already came late and the other girls already where very close but her not showing up doesnt improve that And she already wasnt showing up before she got covid. covid is a very valid reason but not going because your sore when your teammates are working their ass of every single day is crazy(and this comes from someone whos been dancing since 2 years old and played in multiple musicals)
She wasn’t showing up because she had an ankle injury. When Jennie had an ankle injury it was almost impossible for her to dance on it. You can’t tell me that i should be able to dance on an injured ankle. So yes, I think it’s really unfair to treat her like “she doesn’t want to show up” all though, I do think even though her ankle was injured, she could have still came to practice to watch. To make some effort.
@@dreamersdreamies where did you learn she had an ankle injury? That was never the case. She said she didn’t show up because she was "sore" and later admitted that she didn’t have the right attitude about her commitment to this
I think there was little noise when Katseye actually debuted & I thought they are the next Vcha and would flop terribly. But as soon as the doc series was released they blew up. I am seeing them everywhere now.
I think Manon not going to practice isn’t an excuse to bully her or be nasty which the girls were. They should’ve spoken to her directly if they had an issue rather than shoot dirty looks and talk bad about her behind her back.
if you actually listened to what they were saying, they actually did that. Sophia said during therepy, "Why are you upset that we're frustrated when WE TOLD YOU WHY WE'RE UPSET... and that's been going on since the month she came". meaning they told her the problem but she was still deliberately missing practices!
Sophia mentioned how Manon and her talked about it and how she had to explain to her that people are getting frustrated because she’s not putting in as much effort as they are. They were probably all still upset because even after direct convo’s, Manon continued to miss practices even before she got sick. I understand not knowing the expectations of training that’s so new, but I believe that what happened had to happen for Manon to have had a reality check. Cuz after that circle talk, she made it a point to work harder
The girls were just jealous that Manon who had no experience singing, dancing and performing were outshines them. Manon was sick amd got no sympathy from the girls
I just finished the docu and I dont understand why people are justifying Manon’s behavior and putting the other girls specially Lara and Sophia in a bad light. I think it was nice that Sophia and Lara spoke up in front of Manon and tell her what the problem is. These two are true leaders of the group. Both very eloquent and mature. I think there are a lot of things not shown on the docu as well since they need to compress years in 8 episodes. Lots of things misinterpreted. I also believe the girls have the right to feel that towards Manon to whom I think has pretty privilege as what others would say. I felt that Emily deserved to be in this group and the other girls who put better effort. I am too shocked and sad with Adela’s departure. But I realized Adela’s charisma or I dont know maybe dominance might easily outshine other members of the group. This final group balances each other. Sophia is kind of their leader but she’s the type of leader who let’s the others shine. I can also see leadership in Lara, Dani and Megan. Generally, Im happy with the results even tho I liked the other girls. As for Manon, the issue has passed and I can see that she improved a lot and that’s what the other girls are asking. If people feel differently towards Manon, I understand. I felt the same way. Its good that she proved that people are wrong about her by being better. Also, it’s Hybe/Greffens fault not providing proper expectations to Manon. I believe they are all okay now and really like each other. I hate that when we stan 1 girl, we give hate to the other girls. This is a group and each of them deserves to be supported. If you can support all, don’t bring hate.
the staff literally said that everytime it was recording time she was killing it. only the participants were angry and... jealous. like some stuff about her were true i guess bcs she didn't denied it but precisely mentioning all the beauty and star power things in that therapy session was definitely jealousy... especially that white girl. also as soon as she started to train seriously she took over EVEN MORE. hybe and geffen knew she'd be the main character and the economy of katseye... so I understand the jealousy. but yeah... we past it
@@RougeLino I dont wanna use the word jealous maybe they felt unfair bec of her skipping practice but still getting attention. If she was attending practices regulary, I dont think other girls will feel that way coz they will feel more equal in terms of effort exerted. Manon got rizz and she’s meant to be in this group. I wouldnt replace her for any girls, maybe add 1 member in Emily. Hybe/Geffen really wanna push her and Im glad she changed for the better. All love for the girls.❤️
If I was Manon, I'd honestly feel queasy going to practice when a group of girls keep talking and talking about me. They sound like mean girls, ganging up on one girl and gossiping about her without trying to understand why she's withdrawing. Smh. Yeah, yeah, they're older now but do people really even change?
People change or don't change ....I really can't say anything about it .... but what I know and I'm certain about it that relationships between people change .... trust me it happened with me in the past and still happening and I've seen it happening with others too .... If you don't like a person today for any particular reason that doesn't mean you won't meet her/his other sides in future and won't be friends with them .... maybe it happened with you also ... I don't know ...
They were just voicing frustrations, and how the fuck can you voice them to someone when you’re being told they’re ALWAYS off “sick” or “sore”? It’s a face to face convo, you can’t have that when she’s often not there. And in dance groups that kind of lack of commitment can make the entire group to fail. I had to learn an entirely routine in 2 practices bc one team mate was always “*weak cough* just so sick” even though we literally saw her in school doing handstands like she wasn’t too sick to dance. Long story short, we all fucked up the new routine bc she failed to commit to being there and our teacher for some reason tried to keep the spot open for her for way too long. It really pisses you off as dancers when this happens, and it’s embarrassing fucking up when nobody knows why you’re fucking up. As a dancer “feeling queasy bc the girls might be talking about me” is a piss poor excuse to fail your team. If you don’t want them talking about you, actually show up and commit. My entire team literally bullied me into oblivion both in and out of practice but did I skip out because of it? No. I made a promise to my teacher, and myself to work. And work I did because I always scored highest in exam season. Everybody’s sore, but none of them took time off for lactic acid build up. There was a hip surgery and a knee injury, but even then they showed up to take notes. Not many people seem to know what it’s like from an actual dancing perspective so it’s really not being spoken about properly
I understand why the girls were upset with Manon but those dirty looks that Sophia was giving and the comments that Lara were making was not cute and very unnecessary. Like it's not Manon's fault she's pretty and lovable😭
@@TheReal_Ana it's as simple as this. Jealousy. Pretty girls get lots of favoritism, but trust they also get a lot of hate from jealous girls. It's a sad truth.
She got COVID AFTER she missed a bunch of practices already. Getting COVID caused her to miss more practices than she already did. Did you not watch the documentary on Netflix?
Not really. She was just upset that when the other girls were asked if they wanted to debut with her all of them chose other girls. The girls were *so* upset about Adela and it seemed like she internalised that they would have rather her Adela there than her. Other than Ilya saying she felt that way they didn’t actually show the other Dream Academy girls treating her badly.
I think that Manon deserved an apology from the other members. She may not have been aware of what was happening, but throughout the competition, she showed clear growth. I watched the entire survival show and voted for Manon, Ezrela, and Emily. When watching the first two episodes of the documentary, I felt that Adela shouldn’t have been eliminated in Mission 1 because she’s really good at dancing. However, once I saw Adela complaining about Manon, I realized why she might not be fit to be an idol or star. My impression of Sophia also worsened after she confronted Manon, accusing her of not taking notes, even though I clearly saw that she was. In my opinion, someone should have explained the discipline of K-pop training and development to Manon instead of bullying her. I was a bit upset when Emily got eliminated, but she is incredibly talented and should be one of the main dancers in a concert series like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
I was around for Dream Academy days & it was clear as day that it was alot of clique behaviors. Sophia & Lara wasn't mad because she missed practices (manon wasn't only one). They was mad& isolated manon even Illya b/c their friend s that they imagine being the group with, was going home. & people they don't think deserve to be there are getting ever so close to being in the group.
If Manon didn't call the meeting, NO ONE WOULD OF.....think on that. The girls didn't seem like they liked Manon from the beginning. Which now incline to believe that probably the reason she was missing curfew, almost like she trying to avoid them.
I personally believe that by the end of it, Sophia, Lara & the other girls had no choice but to try to get along with Manon b/c clearly she wasn't going nowhere.
What comfirm my suspicion was what Illya said on live recently about dream academy on whole is full of mean girls. BUT Illya had nothing but good things to say about Manon, Celeste & Nayong (surprise surprise all, but Nayong was outcast on the program at certain point)...P.S Celeste &Illya can be consider very "hard worker" so why the other girls also had problems with them?
I noticed a lot of clique behavior during Dream Academy too, and even before the doc came out I could tell tht Sophia and Manon weren't vibing with one another. But I chalk it up to people having different personalities. It's rare for an entire group to be friends with each other.
My thoughts ……. The trainees had a right to be mad, but it should’ve been with Hybe and Netflix lying dead in their faces. As lexie would leave for that reason alone. Able to see the reality that the girls aren’t ur enemy, but this forced competition is. Manon wasn’t the only one to miss out. Yet, I see why it’s hard to manage as a team. Again this wasn’t due to simply Manon, imo Hybe and Netflix allowed certain things for certain people. Terms of eliminations always changed. Talent was not your go to foundation to fall on when the competition came around. The girls shouldn’t be attacked. Adela did discredit Manon having any talent, but she was personally taken out of context. As the moment was a vent session for therapy, so I don’t hold too much anger towards it. Manon also had literal covid which Sophia would later get, so it’s clear she should’ve stayed home. In order to keep others safe, as Sophia’s situation showed how demanding and difficult it would be to work with COVID. She was also older and I felt due to her not having the same background, she lacked the unspoken rules most dancers/singers do go by. A day off isn’t a day off, it’s a day to practice and help other teammates. But again instead of simply explaining this, the girls iced her out, and again they only did so off of the environment they were being forced into (the curated competition). Hybe knew they wanted her and that wasn’t going to change. You see this with Lexie too hence the anger from Mirta when she left. I appreciated Lara’s maturity towards it, and Manons accountability for her own mistakes she was in control of. That could’ve been a moment where Netflix shows these groups have their own issues, but the members are mature enough to manage said issues with grace for one another. Instead they basically placed a stereotype on the group, that is unfair to each and every girl there now. The girls reacted as I’d assume in the situation, and I hope the show creating buzz right now won’t cause any tension with the girls. Shoutout to Sophia for her elegant response to it all 🩷 Ps, I love all of the girlies that made it and didn’t make it. I think Manon is talented and she grew alottttt which is so cool to watch. When I say certain things allowed I’m not just speaking to Manon, but overall on the show. I also don’t think manons beauty kept her, as girls were cut whom were casted mainly for their beauty. I just think she held a place in Hybes minds as a final choice, but she was struggling to match the growth that came with such. If that makes sense 😅 again no hate to any of them. Genuinely only frustrated with Hybe and Netflix
That’s true Manon was going to debut regardless, her spot was already there. The only people she did sing with in the group project were Megan and Younche. If Lexie hadn’t let May be Megan’s spot would have been hers and Yoounche’s spot would have been Nayon’s coz they also wanted her from the beginning. That’s my theory
I love Manon, and some of that was jealousy. The public doesn't just look at perfect dancing or singing they want real people with personality, not always perfection. Sure, looks help, but that's not everything.
I like how you ended your analysis and commentary. Like you said, don't focus on the past Manon. She had to grow up and see that she was dealing with a different culture and work ethics. She had the courage to confront her lack of participation and listened to what the other girls had to say then made a commitment to change her mindset for better. All the other 5 members of Katseye are fine with her now bc she changed and is a part of the team. If she didn't change, she would not have been a part of the team. Think about it. Would the company and the producers accept someone who would ruin an experimental group? A lot rides on this group's success.
So I got into katseye when I heard touch for the first time, I usually like doing research on new groups especially a group like this, when I found out they were gonna do a documentary I was excited, then I found out bout dream academy lol, so I watched the documentary first, then moved over to dream academy, I'm glad I did it this way cause at first yes I didn't like manon, because yes working as a team is a big part of this scene, and when u don't show that, it effects others, so imo I think the girls had a right to be upset with her, If someone did that to u in general people gonna talk behind ur back that's always a given regardless, like everyone's done it before, and now ur throwing HS girls in the mix lmao u best expect drama, I don't think the "mistreatment" was wrong, it was pretty natural tbh, but AFTER watching THE FULL documentary I did come to ig forgive manon cause yea people grow and if u can see that u need to be better, good do it, as long as someone makes up for it or something. I'm just glad that I was able to see it for myself and realize that I shouldn't just hate her. BUT for me...I will remember that part, cause I do feel a fair amount of the contestants would've been and should've been In the top 10 compared to her, I still like katseye tho, and I'm not upset over the outcome, this industry is harsh and will always be, people who can't accept that are the ones hating and talking shit HAVE GOODNIGHT OR DAY OR MORNING LOL
Why is mean girl behavior always justified whenever its towards someone people dislike? You guys pick and choose when to hold certain individuals accountable. One day y’all are a “girls girl” and the other day its okay to be mean because “it was bound to happen”? You guys lack emotional maturity or maturity at all. Theres not need to gossip, there’s no need to shut somebody out. The faces they were making whenever she walked by were sooo childish and honestly just rooted in jealousy. People like you have a lot of growing to do, but then again you’re probably 14.
@@hadrianhexe9603girl bye, they reality is that it does indeed happen and it happens all the time, the important part is that they came together and talked it out and were able to work things out, we have to remember that they are teenagers not 30, childish shit will happen
@hadrianhexe9603 like I said this doesn't just happen in kpop, it happens everywhere, if someone messes something up for a group of people OFC there's gonna be tension between them, and like the other commenter said, it all matters on how it's resolved. Most of the time it'll be a toxic outcome and hate cause that's just what people do best, but these girls were mature enough to just throw it aside and work with her, there's literally an interview not too long ago about this situation with KATSEYE and Lara literally says yea water under the bridge, they moved on lol cause they know holding a grudge like that would cost them more than just to get over it as u should
Exactly! I had to watch it myself as well because of all the drama. You do not only see the conflict, but you see the resolution as well. You also see that after that point in time and after learning that nobody really wanted Manon in there group, she took it upon herself to work harder than ever I truly believe that Manon was a star, but even more of a star now and she deserved her place in the group.
Watching it, i feel Manon was sold a different dream from the rest of the girls, which contributed to her attitude and the conflict with girls. She had no doubt she would make it into the group and i feel like she was having one on one chats with this black lady that appeared nowhere else but in scenes with her, unless she's the same older black lady thats part of the mentor team but i keep feeling they're two different people. Overall, this makes me wonder about what went on behind the scenes of Fifth Harmony
If manon wasn't there i wouldn't have even watched the original show. It was boring as hell. The company knows what it's doing. Sometimes you may work harder but there is a diamond next to you that shines without having to try. Its also not just her looks but her aura.
@@itsasecret29 The way Manon was still able to outshine girls that had been training a year before she came and she had no prior experience. Manon has God given viuals that outshines everyone stay pressed
@MyUmer10 Manon is blessed with beauty and also had no experience performing and still outshines the girls. Stay pressed. Manon had God given star quality
when i watch the documentary i got confused also, it seems that the director behind the edit was planning something dramatic, since sophia and lara are top in voting. The documentary lara and sophia they make them look mean and so the fans are hating sophia and lara for saying truth about manon, its like the whole story is about backstabbing manon in fact sophia and lara they cared about manon image since it survival show.
and i am a new eyekons, i got curious about them and watched their videos and so sad that my bias sophia got hated so much for saying truth. I love you so much Sophia🥺💜
I liked the video! Also to add that yea they need psychologists but it’s unethical to have sessions on screen in this way more so reality tv stars need psychologists impartial to the network
Just because you are training don't mean you have the right to be mad at someone who has nothing to do with you. Her being there and her not being their had nothing to do with you training. Stop justifying them just because you still want manon fans to support and see other member as good people, it just shows what kind of fans they will have and what idols are being put out there. Manon deserves so much more.
They are not training to be soloists, they are in a group so even though they are graded individually, they need to show that chemistry and cohesion , which they explained is very hard to do when people don’t show up to do their part, so they are always valid to feel that way. People are making it out as the girls are just doing it for no reason and out of jealousy , not comprehending that they are forming a group and not solo act… and btw she did get so much more as she debuted in the group, when they could’ve chosen somebody who had more skill set than her
Every mission & evalution before the missions, were in groups. How can you say it had nothing to do with them? If you need to do a group project, but one member is missing a lot & therefore isn't doing her job, than the whole group suffers. It wasn't a program for soloist. It was a program to find a group & they felt like, that Manon wasn't a good group player at the time. But they all got over it & Manon did better. So why are we even talking about this anymore?
So one person skips practices for no reason ( except the fact that she had covid), constantly break rules and specially when traniees were kicked out for even breaking smallest of rules while that 1 woman doesn't get any repercussions. You think people won't get frustrated? They pointed out that and now they are the villains
Personally I feel like yes talent is very very very important and is needed in the industry, but without that star quality what are you bringing to the table. 😭 singing with no energy is just boring yk. I can understand the frustration with the girls and also manon having difficulties it was all just hard and a stressful time for them.
I agree, she is more talented than other trainees gave her credit for, she was incredible even after missing lots of rehearsals. Sophia, Lara & the other girls had no choice but to try to get along with Manon b/c clearly she wasn't going nowhere.
@@Osato_June cause they were kinda angry I guess. Manon had so many privileges, I get it that she had covid but they had every reasons to do so. That was not the only time she was missing classes she also missed classes when she was healthy. If others broke rules they were punished while she wasn't. She also got to live with her aunt cause she wanted to. Also, let's not forget that she literally decided to skip classes just for a lunch
I disagree with the girls feeling being valid only because their issues with manon weren’t genuinely her missing practice. It was the fact they didn’t see her as a threat and they didn’t think she would have ranked so high. So it was natural jealousy. But they covered it with “well its because we are all so close and we’ve watched eachother grow and she’s just lazy and pretty”. Which brings me to the double standards in the show that rub me the wrong way. If anyone benefit the most from weverse and voting it was Sophia, yoonchae and Naeyoung. Weverse is a kpop based platform yes kpop is known but it’s still not as popular in western media and hemisphere (hint ‘s to why katseye is not appealing to the western audience). Kpop biggest fandoms are obviously going to be Korea and Philippines. Not saying the girls aren’t talented…. But half of the girls in the group wouldn’t be there if the competition and voting was on a equal international platforms like Netflix. Another reason the “she doesn’t practice “ thing is not genuine to me is because that only factor in when it came to manon and not any other girl (mainly Lexie 10 day hiatus). When they did buttons, a lot of the girls was even sick too and missed practices including Sophia she came the day of, but still missed practice. The conversation …. First manon wanting to have the conversation is big of her because ( it would of been 🆙 with me personally) but that was mature of her and something the staff should of did before filming that embarrassing unprofessional therapy scene . Hype/ geffen do better!!! But back to the conversation, listening is key but context is as well and understanding of both side is what makes a successful conversation. Sophia yap saying the same copy and paste lines… and manon bringing up the double standards am being told to hush and just listen? Missy as a mentor that question and moment was a great time to teach the girls an important life lesson but you decided to silence a blk woman on flim in 4K? A blk woman with a very valid point might I add. Netflix is not TH-cam, all ages and more westerners will be watching. Way more viewers than the competition on TH-cam had. It’s crazy to think your going to show a one sided conversation and silence a blk women and think its going to just be whatever, hell no! What Missy did was validate what a lot of ppl do to poc. The reaction is from the fact that this is the poc reality especially blk women. If you don’t say much your arrogant, if you say to much your aggressive. That’s why manon ate it and took it she knew her surroundings. The mirco agressions throughout the show only validates why ppl feel Manon was dealing with mistreatment and the hypocrisy the girl and Missy promoted. Bad behavior is just bad behavior… but missing practice for soreness mental health and Covid is not lazy 😂. Jay, Bang and Sun all said she was a star. Jay said “manon would miss practice, but you would never know when she preforms she always brings it“. That tells you right there you can be healthy and pursue your dream. Mind you she did it without discrediting girls and still giving them their flowers for how talented they are. I recommend watching the whole show and competition videos practice vlogs. Build actual context around this and understand global girl group comes with global expectations and responsibilities. Something that flys in your space and country doesn’t fly in others. Take the time to learn, understand emotions and cultures. Because not going to practice don’t validate mirco aggression, double standards and lack of self awareness also accountability.
Completely disagree that this solely had to do with jealousy. That was absolutely a part of it but if I'm being wholly honest, I can understand why it would be frustrating from the team perspective to consistently have one person missing. It throws off morale, it can impact the choreography, and (from my recollection of squad days) it was never a great way at ensuring strong bonds were built or maintained. You have to show yourself to be dependable. Yes, some of the girls were completely jealous of her but there were also some valid concerns raised about her missing practices (even before she was sick) and her issues with missing curfew/being on time. Professional behavior, no matter the industry, is typically expected - ESPECIALLY from juniors or trainees. We all have to learn that lesson and Manon is young, makes sense that she learned a lot about how quickly misconceptions around intent or effort can form. She didn't anticipate all of those eyes on her and fair enough, but the world she was going to get thrust into required slightly more than she was giving and it was great to see her sharpen her skills and sense of self during the process. I think she'll be 1000 times better for it, as uncomfortable as it must have been.
It's funny to me how you think the situation has something to do with her being a POC, especially when half of the girls are from different parts of the world. Even Missy, who is ethnically Venezuelan (though I'm not entirely sure, but she's probably from Latin America). The issue here is favoritism. The executives and fans love Manon because she's pretty and gorgeous. The girls felt that all their hard work-something their teachers and trainers always emphasized as the key to success-wasn't actually valued when the fan voting took place. You have to understand that some of these girls trained for months, some even for a year, and they are constantly judged and evaluated based on their performance. This isn't about her just missing practice or being sick because note that Manon is always at the bottom in ranking, both in vocal and dance. Skills and talent wise she's lacking. But then, suddenly, the mechanics change, and now people are voting based on nationality or how pretty someone is. That's incredibly frustrating for the other girls because they sacrificed so much. But then again, the entertainment industry is often catered to attractive people with star quality and so Im not surprised by it.
I dunno know why people are trying to overanalyze or overcomplicate it here. The girls were simply frustrated that Manon was not giving the same effort that they were but was still getting results. They were probably also annoyed at the lack of repercussions she got from breaking rules and being an exception which can understandably make people either upset or jealous especially when they've all become closer in the dorms. But it's not Manon's fault either. Context wise, i would assume she was not given proper orientation on the culture of work ethics in asia especially. And she wasn't a kpop fan either, i am very confident the management all did this on purpose for some stupid drama. Hybe is stupid af like always anyways. Leave the evil editing to mnet💀. They were all simply not seeing eye to eye. They talked it face to face and Manon has improved and put her will into being in the group and it's been 2 fucking years and they've all moved on and respect each other. That was it. It's just that simply. But now i have to fucking bare seeing vile and racist comments towards Lara, Sophia and Manon. And i doubt this cycle will end soon. Great fucking job to whoeevr was the director of that documentary
What did you honestly expect? That a Western girl would obediently follow the rules like Korean girls do? It's impossible! We are conditioned in the West to never follow the rules. Just like crossing red lights. It’s the culture of “I” before “we.”
We are conditioned 😂 oh gosh Rules don't apply to some nationalities and not others are you proud of being a tone deaf brat? Nah rules apply to everyone yall ain't an exception calm down
I love your take on this....❤no matter how those people twist and edit those videos on tiktok.. eventually the truth always comes out in the end ....love them all OT6 all the way....
Don’t get me wrong Manon has talent and is beautiful! But watching the show without any knowledge of her and any of the girls. I myself felt very upset and annoyed that she was given many opportunities and chances for example going home to live with her aunt and none of the other trainees got to.Which I am sure all the girls would have loved that too. Durning the outcome of votes I understood that Manon probably already had some fans probably from TikTok or other platforms. I truly believe that the drama that did occur could have been prevented, had Hybe inform her how serious this was, and what all the other trainees are also going through this journey too, become a part of this group. With that being said, I feel like all of the girls stating how they felt during the process of how they saw Manon getting treated they had the right to feel that way as they were training to get a spot as well. But I do believe maybe not talking behind her back but being upfront about it to her as they did later on in the documentary. All in all Manon is thriving with in the group and I’m happy with the end result of Katseye. I did wish that Ezrla and Marquis could have also been there but Ik they will succeed wherever they go! Much love yall 🤗
But that was the fault of those managing dream academy. It’s almost like they set her up for the exact mean behaviour some of the girls showed towards her. If they had told Manon she’ll be out of the show if she missed training sessions with no good reason, the issue would have been sorted out quicker. Instead they allowed her to take time away like she would in Swiss culture, then they acted annoyed when the girls had issues with her. I’m glad all the girls have bonded now and are fine, but there were faults on all sides.
i mean i understand why the girls are upset at manon while there working hard to be able to debut while shes skipping practice or breaking rules. And how the girls can be upset at her for not showing up to practices, it’s not like they were bullying manon or something, they just wanted her to be a team player and practice with them and not make it so difficult. I agree manon is a superstar im not throwing hate towards her, but I mean they have their own reasons, their still young. But you guys need to see their point of view we should let them handle it and not bash others. Ps: sorry for the long passage I promise I don’t mean any hate it’s just my opinion about this. And ur voice is super calming to😭
I understand why they could be mad but Adela,Sophia & Lara seems to be behind the "LETS All jump on Manon train" Adela gives off mean girls vibes and was never really happy when the other girls names got called & looked at certain girls weird & it was said that a lot of the girls missed multiple practices but the hate was put on Manon.
Without her visuals, Manon doesn't bring much to the table. Other girls deserved to be in the group much more, girls who actually had the passion for this and dedication, like Samara, Marquise, or Ezrela. It's so unfair to them. Manon is an example that being gorgeous and having many followers on instagram is what seems to count the most nowadays. It's so shallow! Also the favoritism and star treatment they gave her throughout all the pop academy/dream academy experience is undeniable. To begin with she didn't even audition, they sent her someone to train her dancing and singing with (they didn't do that with anyone else), then she skipped so many rehearsals, showed up late to meetings, rehearsals or the house, etc, and they sent Naisha and Lexie home for much less than that (I know Lexie wanted to quit anyways but doesn't change the fact). Like, wtf.

To be honest, I was kind of happy that Adela did not debut even though she is talented, she was always trying to make Manon look bad .l understood her when she mentioned it the first time . But she always having to use manon as an example of indiscipline made me very annoyed I mean come on .she was literally sick with Covid also so I don’t get why she was trying to drag her down like that.l really think that the girls should have spoken to her privately rather talk behind her back like that and Adela should know that it is a competition that involves the votes of fans so what if they like manon than you it’s what the people want
I would update my comment, but I want to keep the heart lol 😅
Also, pretty sure Manon is rich.
This is exactly everything I wanted to say about this!
she's from switzerland?
This was a great lesson of the “life is not fair” variety.
it's the "being pretty privilege". we can't deny that she is pretty, eye catching, center and visual material for a gb.
@@stephanieputri7655most of her fans will attack you for this but you’re saying the truth.
@@goldenhourss honestly it's just facts
I see this all as a positive thing moving forward.
lmao
the staff literally said that everytime it was recording time she was killing it. only the participants were angry and... jealous.
like some stuff about her were true but precisely mentioning all the beauty and star power things in that therapy session was definitely jealousy... especially that white girl.
but yeah... we past it
@@RougeLino wtf are you on, they had every right to get angry. Manon skipped practices and broke many rules and got away with it
@@Hope-du4gwAnd the girls ostracised her and that’s why she wasn’t comfortable to come to the practice sessions. So there were faults on both sides.
@@Hope-du4gwthere were faults on both sides. Coz some other girls missed practice but weren’t singled out like Manon
Remember Naisha was eliminated so quickly 😢
I couldn't even see her in the group, maybe Emily but Adela never seemed like someone who would fit in with Katseye.
lmao
the staff literally said that everytime it was recording time she was killing it. only the participants were angry and... jealous.
like some stuff about her were true but precisely mentioning all the beauty and star power things in that therapy session was definitely jealousy... especially that white girl.
also as soon as she started to take it seriously she took over over the show EVEN MORE.
the entire staff knew from the beginning that she'd be the main character and the economy of katseye 💅🏿
but yeah... we past it
I think there is something to be said that Manon did have very good “presence”, that’s part of the reason why she was so popular with the public. Her looks helped but it was the art film and her acting in it that pushed her to the top.
Stay pressed Manon still debuted. Also giving someone dirty looks has nothing to do with her work ethic
They can't fit 2 years in eight episodes. I don't think this documentary did ANY justice but to create drama and hatred.
That was the intention, Drama
Manon is the definition of pretty privilege. She is beyonce level beautiful so she can get away with a lot.

Manon had no experience performing before the show, and the instructors complemented her. You are hating on a beautiful black girl. It's giving jealousy. You all completed forgetting the fact that she had covid
why do you guys act like the other girls aren’t gorgeous too and also benefiting from pretty privileged?

3:55 sorry but i highly disagree with this theyre supposed to be a family a team cant function without trust in each other and the other contestants could not trust manon to show up so that creates a gap in the trust that is so very important i understand that the girls where frustrated its not that they where mad but when manon doesnt show up it creates a problem for the other contestants with the choreography and everything and i think that is valid thats just how it works in the real world and it doesnt improve manon's relationship with the group shes wasnt gonna improve without putting in the work and her not showing up makes her relationship with the other girls seem strained she already came late and the other girls already where very close but her not showing up doesnt improve that
And she already wasnt showing up before she got covid. covid is a very valid reason but not going because your sore when your teammates are working their ass of every single day is crazy(and this comes from someone whos been dancing since 2 years old and played in multiple musicals)

Clock it. Everyone’s just making excuses for her poor work ethic.
Feels as if the director sensed that some drama was brewing and they just let it continue and let it roll for the sake of drama 😅

@@RHIYU-o1o all of them? Sure, I guess.
@@TheReal_Ana it's as simple as this.
Jealousy.
Pretty girls get lots of favoritism, but trust they also get a lot of hate from jealous girls. It's a sad truth.
She had covid wtf, why they mad.😂 Seem like they were a little jealous. But Im glad they've grown from this.
She got COVID AFTER she missed a bunch of practices already. Getting COVID caused her to miss more practices than she already did. Did you not watch the documentary on Netflix?
So Illya also faced the same animosity? Like what the heck was going on in there
True, I think she deserved an apology as well.
im not even her fans, but im glad how she still make it despite most of the girls talk shit about her.
@@sweetonsweet924 very well said fr
Shoutout to Sophia for her elegant response to it all 🩷
Ps, I love all of the girlies that made it and didn’t make it.
They already picked Yc, Manon and Lexie i think, no matter what Hybe will pick em' too bad Lexie are out :"
I really appreciate your take in this video. I feel like you validated everyone's feelings and fairly showed both sides of the argument!
"You weren't taking notes or paying attention" Yet you literally see her taking notes 🤔
That part!
BUT for me...I will remember that part, cause I do feel a fair amount of the contestants would've been and should've been In the top 10 compared to her, I still like katseye tho, and I'm not upset over the outcome, this industry is harsh and will always be, people who can't accept that are the ones hating and talking shit HAVE GOODNIGHT OR DAY OR MORNING LOL
i agree with you perfectly said ❤
Yeah no, something being natural doesn't mean you do it. Yes they can be frustrated but grouping up on someone is wierd

Watching it, i feel Manon was sold a different dream from the rest of the girls, which contributed to her attitude and the conflict with girls. Stop justifying them just because you still want manon fans to support and see other member as good people, it just shows what kind of fans they will have and what idols are being put out there. They are not training to be soloists, they are in a group so even though they are graded individually, they need to show that chemistry and cohesion , which they explained is very hard to do when people don’t show up to do their part, so they are always valid to feel that way. If you need to do a group project, but one member is missing a lot & therefore isn't doing her job, than the whole group suffers.

Literally this. These are my exact thoughts
You nailed it
It's funny to me how you think the situation has something to do with her being a POC, especially when half of the girls are from different parts of the world.
EXACTLY 👏👏👏
I need the full version of the outro!!!
Manon / Jennie. Why do I feel like they wrote her narrative that way
Honestly when I was watching I was like "how are they gonna make them a group" because like a lot of us I already knew who was gonna be in kateye
True, the only person I didn't think would get in was Megan. I sort of thought Emily would be in the group.
What version of touch is used in the ending?
this whole Netflix show was a mess
fr😭
We are conditioned 😂 oh gosh
Rules don't apply to some nationalities and not others are you proud of being a tone deaf brat?
All the girls are talented. But what the heck happened to Emily. She was a tiny powerhouse.
Also, I'm not trying to hate, but Manon is pronounced Man-no. And Adéla is pronounced Ah-dell-ah.
Yeah, I noticed that after I uploaded the video. I was so focused on saying ILIYA's name right that I messed up theirs 😅.
where is the touch outro song from?
I created it on Suno. Here's the playlist: on.soundcloud.com/KKCcBf6kor5agQ3g6
i mean i understand why the girls are upset at manon while there working hard to be able to debut while shes skipping practice or breaking rules.
And ur voice is super calming to😭
Nice video. I hope shallow people finished watching it
I understand why they could be mad but Adela,Sophia & Lara seems to be behind the "LETS All jump on Manon train" Adela gives off mean girls vibes and was never really happy when the other girls names got called & looked at certain girls weird & it was said that a lot of the girls missed multiple practices but the hate was put on Manon.
Where to watch this?
It's on Netflix
Use your real voice ❤
EVERYTHING IS OK WHY WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS.
Emily should have gotten in
Without her visuals, Manon doesn't bring much to the table. Like, wtf.
If you guys want to take k out of k pop just do pop what the heck are you guys??????

If Adela truly was one of the most talented, I feel bad she got eliminated.
Jalouses !!!!
Lol they were just jealous because she’s that girl. Simple !
Exactly my view too
