There is an anecdote out there that describes this as the song in which Neil Young does the second best guitar solo in the history of rock'n'roll, sings a little bit, then does the best guitar solo of all time. I don’t know about being the best solo, but it’s certainly the most incendiary. He runs, jumps, shakes, headbangs, and almost flies. Beautiful.

I was the camera crane operator on this. My ears were literally ringing for days! I had to wear a headset and the cameraman was next to the speakers and was yelling commands into my ears. I sure wish the image quality was better but this was one of the first live pay per view telecasts and video cameras weren't that great yet. HBO if I recall. Amazing show!

@@smokey9397 Not much magic really. I had a cast on my broken wrist to boot. People in the crowd were trying to jump up and grab the arm while the camera operator (remote) was yelling at me to get lower. Larry (LA) Johnson was the producer and a good friend of Neil's. He actually has a brief Wikipedia page which said he was known for his sweeping camera moves. I had done other shows with him (Dylan/Petty at Shoreline) but never saw a crane on another show. Aside from losing my hearing, it was an amazing evening obviously. Bob was totally hammered on tequila on the other show so that was interesting.

Yea it's great guitar going on there. It does remind me of Mick Ronson of the Spiders, that's David Bowie's band from the early 1970's as in Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. An example would be the 1973 Live concert there with his Les Paul, that has it happens was stolen after the gig. Turns out that a number of the soon to be Punks were at that concert. Ronson's guitar next turned up in the capable hands of Steve Jones live in the Sex Pistols from 1976, and on their album Never Mind the Bollocks. That guitar disappeared after. Maybe Neil Young's mate nicked it after one of the US gigs.
Man there's a lot of very fast rock and heavy rock guitarists in the 1970's and 1980's , and most are just rubbish. Neil Young stands out as someone with actual musical talent among a great many dreadful high speed noise. Yea Neil Young actually did his stint learning to play for years on acoustic guitar and so on before mega fame. i think a lot of them 1970's guitarists just stampeded straight to big amp lots of distortion and who can squash as many notes in a bar as possible. You know "Too many notes".
Back in the late 1970's i remember the punks were in to Neil Young and then Motorhead which i thought was odd at the time, since they claimed to be anti all the big rock bands of the past. I guess they had good taste not just bigotry. But lots of them were biggest too, just like me back then. Neil Young referenced Johnny Rotten of course. I still think his guitar on For What its Worth is just genius.

For me, Neil Young is the best entertainer and composer who has been transforming reality into poetry for decades. His music is able to make me happy and free me from bad feelings. He is authentic and has the formula that touches people with his music and makes the H2O atoms in the body vibrate.
In 1976, our father left us when we were 9, 11 and 13 years old. Cancer. Our mother had to work nights to give us a “nice” childhood. When we were alone at home, we often listened to music like Neil Young's "Harvest Moon." Songs like “Heart of Gold” gave us hope and confidence.
Today, 50 years later, people have definitely lost their way - climate change, Ukraine etc. 4 days ago I heard Neil Young's live concert in Chicago, 1992 | for the first time PBS Center Stage on TH-cam by "depleis" where he plays "Like a Hurricane" on the harmonium. We had no money for musical instruments, but we did have an old harmonium from our grandmother that we played a lot as children.
This new video touches me very much because I define “Like a Hurricane” as one of the most beautiful songs and pieces of music in cultural history. When I'm feeling well, I listen to and watch Bryan Ferry's "Nuits de Fourviere Live in Lyon - Like a Hurricane HD" by "dp" on TH-cam - absolutely great, radiates happiness and makes you happy. When I'm sad or angry about what humans are doing to our planet, I listen to and watch "Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Like A Hurricane - Live 1986" by "billyidol68" on TH-cam. It helps me extremely well to detach myself from these thoughts.
The energy of this person makes me completely unhinged with the video from Chicago 1992. Thank you, Neil Young. With your music you are one of the greatest gifts in my life.

Being moved emotionally is similar to sadness, but is not the same. As an example, take a great B.B. King song. Classic blues, usually about losing in love. And yet we are moved emotionally not to depression, but to a place where we are one with the artist. Great music, whether rock or classical or jazz, etc., is an affirmation of being alive.

Jesus effing Christ. I'm 69 and this is the first time I've seen this. Could this possibly be the same person I saw at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in LA in early 1971? THAT'S why I love Neil Young.

I saw him live 2 weekends in a row back in the 90's. Such a great show. He's so versatile. He plays all his hits, old man, heart of gold, ect, then does an acoustic set, songs like sugar mountain mountain, needle and the damage done, and then closes the show with a crazy hard rocking set. Crazy guitar solos. Just unbelievable.

I love how at @6:28 he accidentally unplugs his guitar and later, when it gets plugged in again, he slowly fades in again and gets back on track with even more furiosity! I think the accident made this version even more beautiful. Absolute stunner of a performance. The energy is unmatched. Amazing song. Gets me fired up every single time. I will be here for until my dying day.

I have never seen another guitarist play with such pure, raw emotion. He takes his solos to another world. This song pretty much taught me lead guitar I used to play it so often learning to solo - I bet his solos have spawned many, many guitarists, but few out there can stand with Neil in terms of pure power.

Neil Young doesn't play music, "he is the music.". This is a great video-audio version of my favorite Young song. The Weld versions of this, Rocking In the Free World & other hits are amazing too. Arguably the greatest singer-somgwriter-guitarist in rock history from 1960's to present; has done rock, folk, country, blues, new wave/punk, pop, grunge, electronic, so has done more genres of any writer-singer in music history. Probably has recorded more somgs than any other artist. Long may you run, Neil.

    Lyrics :
Once I thought I saw you
    in a crowded hazy bar,
    Dancing on the light
    from star to star.
    Far across the moonbeam
I know that's who you are,
    I saw your brown eyes
    turning once to fire.
    You are like a hurricane
    There's calm in your eye.
    And I'm gettin' blown away
    To somewhere safer
    where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
    I'm getting blown away.
    I am just a dreamer,
but you are just a dream,
    You could have been
    anyone to me.
    Before that moment
    you touched my lips
    That perfect feeling
    when time just slips
    Away between us
    on our foggy trip.
    You are like a hurricane
    There's calm in your eye.
    And I'm gettin' blown away
    To somewhere safer
    where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
    I'm getting blown away.
    You are just a dreamer,
and I am just a dream.
    You could have been
    anyone to me.
    Before that moment
    you touched my lips
    That perfect feeling
    when time just slips
    Away between us
    on our foggy trip.
    You are like a hurricane
    There's calm in your eye.
    And I'm gettin' blown away
    To somewhere safer
    where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
    I'm getting blown away.
