It's because most of the folks in our country have never left nor do they even look outside of the US. When you have nothing to compare to, you can't be grateful for what you have.

Westerners don't realise just how good they have it.
I think the media is partially to blame. We are told how "bad" we are almost daily. We catch some blame after every mass shooting or racially-motivated act of violence. And, judging by my 20-something grandchildren, too many college and university professors push that narrative. My granddaughter said blame and shame for the USA's "multitude of shortcomings" are crammed down her throat 3 days a week, during a humanities class. She's beginning to believe there is no goodness in America and only sinister motives behind displays of patriotism.
Western countries were created by white people. Western countries keep allowing brown and black people in to their countries. Soon western countries will be 3rd world because of this.

I am from Zambia and lived the first 40 years in Africa. I haved now lived in Australia for 20 years. What struck a chord with me is I often find myself defending Australia from Australians. Seems to me that born and raised Australians don't know what a truly great country they have.

The more spoiled you are the less happy and winy you are. I once was feeling sorry for myself after getting divorced, until I traveled and witnessed the impoverished areas of other countries and experienced their government corruption. Proud and fortunate to be an American.
I'm Asian American. During my mid-year performance review 2 weeks ago, my non-Asian manager brought up the recent Asian hate crimes and asked me about my well-being. I was pleasantly surprised. The media often has a negative bias when it comes to reporting. We often ignore the good and focus too much on the bad. Racial tensions are going to exist anywhere. That's a fact. However, we as a nation should not overlook the progress we made.
as an Asian, I don't like them calling it Asian hate crime. Its just a crime and we have no clue what they are thinking(unless they specifically state the reasons of their actions), no different if it is committed against a black person or Asian. A crime is a crime and we need to stop classifying by race.
That's because the media can only report happenings, not none-happenings. The media can't and won't report "there is nothing abnormal happened in Tucson yesterday." So is most people. very few people appreciate living and peace.

I just wish people wouldn’t try to change with violence. The violence seems to only divide and create animosity’s.

I agree that America does a good job with multicultural living. I would say, however, that it is because people agitate (or whine) for their rights and freedoms. We don’t have a complacent population.

Indeed. I traveled to Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and Honduras 🇭🇳. I know there are worse "poors." We have homeless. Yes, but these homeless is 80% self-inflicted, the other 20% is recession/economic related. We have it in Los Angeles in widespread basis, it's because of corruption. We've begun to feel the burnt of this corruption that causes homeless in San Francisco. It's because of political corruption.

As an American, I was sent overseas by the US Army. I went to PI, Thailand, S. Korea and several places in Central America. What it taught me is how amazing the USA is. We're not a perfect nation but we try awfully damn hard and we don't hide our faults in propaganda. IMO the people who wish to tear down this great nation are doing so because they have a lack of appreciation, history and prospective.

What I'd say is any person that lacks the perspective to understand the amazing nation we have is sadly mislead. America has elected and appointed more minorities (ethnic, gender) to positions of power than any nation on this earth. Our laws and human rights protections are well settled via the court. I imagine my point was (and is) that we as Americans ought to have a bit more respect for how much progress our nation has made and that we truly are a unique and special society that has become a beacon for the world. Its tragic, IMO, that we have a great number of Americans who seem to never take stock in just how good we are, in general but would rather find fault and beat our nation down. Guess my life experience has given me a chance to see other nations and that's given me a deeper appreciation. I've challenged my kids to read Alexis de Tocqueville’s "Democracy in America" to gain an understand of our need for a basic social contract with one another. In truth Tocqueville was almost prophetic in warning against the desires of people when he wrote; "...most especially in the present democratic times, that the true friends of the liberty and the greatness of man ought constantly to be on the alert to prevent the power of government from lightly sacrificing the private rights of individuals to the general execution of its designs. At such times no citizen is so obscure that it is not very dangerous to allow him to be oppressed; no private rights are so unimportant that they can be surrendered with impunity to the caprices of a government (Democracy in America, Vol. II, Ch. LOVE THAT *you're dead on!* Americans do really think our problems are worse than anywhere else. We've had it so good for so long that any problem we experience shocks us. We're constantly navel-gazing. It's pretty terrible... I wish more Americans spent time abroad (not just as a tourist) as part of their education so they had a better sense of the reality of the world. The problem with Americans that complain how bad it is here, have never lived in another country or dealt with severe discrimination. In Taiwan as a child I lived in the country, no shoes, electricity, running water, etc. We were country folks when I went to taipei for school they looked at us like monsters. I aome here for almost 35 years now, it's awesome here still, and I can't think of any other country I'd rather be in. I've found warmth from people that I didn't think I would, friends of all races took me in. It's great here. But you are correct, Americans are whiny, and many entitled AF. Keep up the great work!!

Cultures can co-exist thanks to general acceptance of non-aggression, but faith in authority must be unilateral and it seems to me America has turned upon itself to tear down its leaders. Unmanaged chaos, injustice, inequality (the kind that actually exists), along with many other factors are feeding into the dissolution of the American people, and the nation as a result.

As an American living in Taiwan for the past 5 years, I’ve noticed the same thing. I love Taiwan, but I’m amazed about some unintentional prejudice thing against foreigners here.

Do it now! I'm a woman who traveled solo across the US at age 60 - spent five months on the road visiting friends and family and camping in national and state parks and forests. Best thing I ever did!
You are absolutley right. I was born and grown up as part of a minority group in Germany. I love this country and I'm glad to born and grown up here in Germany, but Americans are the best when it comes to race equality and multiculturalism.
Germany is pretty good with it too. I mean just go to berlin youll meet more foreigners than germans.
Born here but parents took us to India every year as a kid to visit fam. And boy can I say, it really makes you not take for granted even the most accessible of all things we have in America Such as water.

In addition to America, following the Canadian media or listening to many Canadians, you would think the country is positively infested with racism. Most of these people have seldom left their bubbles to live abroad and have NO idea what kind of ideas about race and deep-seated insider/outsider thinking exist in much of the world. I love much about all the places I've lived for what they are, and I mean to say nothing negative about the people there, but the fact of the matter is that, alongside the U.S., modern Canada is by far one of the most tolerant, inclusive countries in the world. I think it's just as important to recognize and appreciate that fact while still pointing out, exploring and rightfully condemning true acts of racism when they occur.
I think its because US and Canada deal with their racism and the rest of the world largely doesn't need to. We kind of get it brow beaten out of us, unfortunately it leaves progressively less racist people thinking they are more racist than the rest of the world and vice-versa. It all paradoxically leaves everyone confused. I imagine there is a better course we could chart, certainly. South Korea, at least seems, to do better than most, but they're also the most connected to America. You tell me I've never been there. Japan is very hospitable but only for about a year, which is when you have overstayed your guest status. I do believe Christianity also helps because it spans many demographics (no preferred race, except Judah) and people in general tend to fall into amoral value sets that make it difficult to establish reliable standards. Often Christianity is at its best when under persecution, it can become as privledged as anyone. Everyone is trying to please someone usually whoever bears the greatest influence or power. I.E. the Kardashians or God or something in-between.

But I’m not mad about it because they were young an ignorant. But it still hurt being othered by your own people. When adults do it I just don’t associate with them. An to give some context this happened in elementary school at a time when you start to realize your skin tone or how your hair is different from other children. My goodness people don’t know how blessed they are to live in the USA 🇺🇸. I was born in Nigeria 🇳🇬 growing up and having five siblings eating three times a day was almost impossible. I and my siblings we all share one room and as you know their is no constant electricity in Nigeria 🇳🇬 and even when the light come we don’t even have any money to pay for it so basically we didn’t have light at home for two years. Our room was infested mosquitoes 🦟 so we got sick regularly the toilet in bad shape my dad fell sick my mum traveling to another city to work. At a young age of 10 I joined her soon times we have to work miles and miles under the heavy rain 🌧 my mum carrying 40kg of goods on her head. We had to wake up by 5am in the morning and return by 12am. My childhood was not just roses no buying of new toys and birthdays 🎂 no it was filled with suffering but still I have improved myself because I know that only me can improve myself this was just a glimpse of the difficulties we faced as a family back home just a glimpse it got way tough. I look to America as a place where you can be whatever you wanna be no wonder in Nigeria we call the USA jackpot 🎰. The USA 🇺🇸 visa is success. The USA 🇺🇸 is my dream and will remain my dream I know myself what ever I set my mind to achieve I definitely do achieve it.

Honestly, I really wish I could improve on this as a Canadian. My wife was raised in the Philippines and is baffled by my attitude towards my country given how great it is in its own respect.
I disagree, I don't agree that you should compare Canada to a country like the Philippines that is known for its corruption, and where injustices are the norm. Canada is an OECD country. We should compare Canada to other countries with high standards in education, health, worker's rights etc. We should educate immigrants about all their rights when they move to Canada, and similar countries, because unfortunately, some companies abuse incoming immigrants and pay them less, expect them to take fewer vacations and breaks and work longer hours and take on more workload, which they do because it is still a better deal than they were getting in their home country and then this affects the standard of living of the rest of Canadians. We should set ourselves to higher standards. Obviously if you complain your whole life you will be miserable, and you should practice gratitude, but if something is not working in your country you should be an active citizen and try to make a change in any way you can, rather than just complain and do nothing about it. This is just my perspective as another Canadian. I feel like the lower we set our standards, the more companies and governments abuse the people and start taking away services and our rights, until we're "grateful" we have a loaf of bread to eat.

I had the great advantage of traveling all over the world while I was In the Navy. I can attest to the fact that America is one one the best countries in the world. I love it.
Winston, you are spot on. I lived in Taiwan for 16 years and recently returned to America. My wife is from the Philippines and has had no problems immersing in the culture here. She is horrified by the amount of attention given to race relations. On the other hand, we miss Taiwan so much. A great people with a wonderful culture.

I moved to the US from Russia and I completely understand where your coming from. Being raised in a culture where everything was appreciated because people knew it was scarce before and can always go bad again was humbling. America hasn't really seen real widespread devastation, and to me it seems like they are constantly trying to make up problems on purpose to fit in. I live a great life, I'm not rich, I'm not even fully stable in all aspect of life, but it's a blessing that I can wake up every day and do whatever I want, talk about whatever I want, and have control over myself. Americans are hyperfocused on such ridiculous bs, like banning childrens books and yelling at each other from their mansions in LA about who has it worse that they cant see how weak this makes them. And they are always trying to find the next non issue to squabble about. It's draining. Sometimes I want to unlearn english lol

Been in US since 2002, have gone through my own moments of anger, but in the end, it was always my fault and something that I didn’t do that caused issues when I was younger... I wouldn’t live anywhere else. Currently in Southern California and it often feels like a dream.

I'm American and I can believe someone actually said that. Many Americans are taught this garbage in school and at home by teachers and parents who live very sheltered lives.. A lot of Americans have never left so they do not know what the world is like , our county is a wonderful accepting place and it's sad that many will never understand this. @胡李 . Check out the picture's of the actual people who are attacking Asians. It's in our inner city's that have high crime rates and low employment opportunities. They are attacking Asians because they are known for their hard work , owning their own businesses and having lot's of cash on hand. We also have multiple Asian businesses here in our very rural area and not a one of them have been attacked or robbed. They are doing it to take their money and as usual our media is spinning the story and it's also dangerous because Asian Americans are not prepared against these attacks that way. So dear Asians don't believe everything the media tells you , do more research and perhaps ask people who have been attacked what those people look like where it happened and what happened. America is a very large country and we are all very different people.

I said it was NOT the majority. All people are being attacked and have been. My comment was look into who is actually doing the attacking , there are ignorant people in every race. None of our government's care about any of us and if we are fighting with each other we will never see the real problems and fix them. I am well aware of the problems in the inner city's, I lived in one for a lot of my life and it's not a safe place to bring up your family but if you look at actual crime statistics and warnings from other countries about traveling to the United States you will see that this has always been a problem. It's only gotton worse because of poverty and anger, certain demographics of people can see who has been working hard and saving money and they get blamed even more even though they have nothing to do with it. Just because you make calling people a name a crime won't stop it , killing people is a crime yet people are still doing that. You will never outlaw evil sadly or stupidity.

You're right about the whining and it is getting worse. I'm 61 years old and I can honestly and openly blame much of this on SOME people in my generation. Too many baby boomers simply failed to allow their children to experience adversity, appreciate their immense privilege or accept responsibility for their actions. There ARE, however exceptions. I am a veteran and my peers are true patriots who appreciate every joy in life because we have seen the world. Stay awesome!
