Rule: Never send money to someone you haven’t met in person. Most scammers are pretty easy to spot. If they are super hot, never meet you, and ask for money, they are a scammer for sure.
Last year when I was still teaching in China, my school's designated helper asked me, "Have you eaten yet?" I told him I hadn't eaten yet and assumed it meant we were getting lunch. So when he said he had eaten, I couldn't understand why he asked me the question. I found out later that this was simply a greeting and not necessarily an invitation.
Dude it’s awesome how you’re continuing to provide great content about China even from the USA. I’ve been getting these scam messages a lot recently. Glad you pulled the thread on it cuz I was curious how it ends. Keep up the good work!
First at all, sorry for my bad English and thank you for shooting the video very much. In fact, I have many similar experiences, after I knew they are scamers, I just planned to make fun of them. There were many US country singers and famous British singer who wrote to me. After I chatted with the first one, I had known they are from a scam group from China. After I complained about the first one's English, he said he can use translate software to write. (what kind of logic, so stupid) And after that, he started to use perfect Simplified Chinese to chat. I didn't know that such a perfect translation software exists at all. His Simplified Chinese was just as of a native speaker's. And the second person could not answer any question about country music. And the last one is the stupidest, I asked him to write down " Hi, Gianni, I am Luka" on a paper, and shoot a picture with his face. He did it, but the picture is fake, although he photoshopped the photos perfectly, the name of the star is Luke Bryan, not Luka. How is it possible, that a country singer doesn't know his name. 🤣✌
I took Mandarin for one year in college. The class was odd because for a class of only about a dozen students, we had two teachers. One from PRC, and one from Taiwan. I had no idea at the time the reason for this. The woman who taught the class was from PRC and was very brash and bossy. The young man from Taiwan, was very subservient, and quiet, helpful when he could be. When we would ask about traditional characters, our teacher, the woman, would just tell us to ignore them, ‘they’re too complicated anyway.’ I didn’t realize until much later how manipulative all of it was. Now, I wish we had been a little more knowledgable all of it or that someone at the university had warned us before we signed up for the class.
Thanks for doing this Winston! This has happened to me MULTIPLE times. I just didn't have the patience to take it quite as far as you did. They sure get mad when you call them a liar and a scammer at the end of it! Very entertaining.
Glad you did this, stealing their time is the only way to fight back. I'm not a hacker so I just keep them engaged until they give up. Keeping them waiting is rewarding somehow.
this stuff is very risky. don't do it unless you are very well informed about how to protect yourself online. do you reserach. don't just respond to the first scammer you think would be fun to mess with.

Brother you rock man. Im a fellow south african living in china, and ive only been watching your videos recently. Dude what ive been thinking and discovered living here. you have been telling people for years your life experiences in china. as much as i love alot about china we cannot hide away from the fact that foreigners will always be second or temporary here.
But the people messaging you aren't the people running the scams most of the time, are they? They are often scammed into doing this as well, even kidnapped and forced into slavery
A good laugh. Some years ago, my brother in law was doing the same thing to a "Nigerian prince and govenor". He had the guy phoning him overseas, even putting "his wife and kids" on the line and eventually got US$16.00 from him into his bank account. Went on for months till the scammer realised he was being scammed himself. The calls ended with the usual filthy namecalling.

Love what you did! It's also interesting how "her" English improves 100% where she chats about crypto (probably from script), compared to her regular conversation. FYI: I kinda did the same thing (wasted his time) to a scammer, who wanted to rent my house, and he actually sent me a fake cashiers check for the deposit. The check was a thousand dollars more than what I asked for, and he wanted me to send the difference back to him via wire. Instead, I reported the scammer to my bank and to the FBI.
Technically the QR code at 22:32 exposes the entire code even if the text beside it is cropped off the screen. Love the runaround you gave and the "+" and related runaround is priceless.
Love that you scammed them for over two months, that's very awesome. I went through a period of getting one or two of these a month for about 7 months. They were fun to mess with and drag along. Even had one end the communication by letting me know that it was all a scam and I shouldn't talk to them.

I love the way you tell your stories! I was born and raised in Taiwan. In fact, when I was little (around ten years ago), I have heard of the saying, “Women are made of water. 女人是水做的” As I remembered, this sentence is used to describe that women are as clean as clear water and should be treated gently and carefully. Of course, nowadays people don’t really say that to describe women anymore.
I didn't think I'd last through the full half hour, but no, and the last minute's payoff was hilarious. Thanks Winston. My long ago partial study of Chinese allowed me to to be 'rolling' in laughter for some time. Now I'm immunized against another scam from China.

Good show Winston, highly entertaining ! Lol You remind me of my Dad in the old days of telemarketing if he received a call from one of those jerks that would never shut up, he would just put the receiver down on his wooden desk and let it vibrate. When i asked him about the call he told me they called me so let them pay for it! Lol thanks Winston your the greatest.
I really appreciate your content Winston and once I get out of debt I want to support you and c-milk on patreon. You're so intelligent and insightful and I really enjoy your sense of humor.
You can start at something very low, like $1/month. This is half the price of a coffee. And once you get more money, you can raise it. I currently give $100/month to both C-Milk & Serpentza! I give so that others who are unable to afford it, can still enjoy the content.
I don't watch you often. But I always enjoy your videos. I really enjoyed this one because I was scammed once. My fault. Not greedy. Just stupid. It's nice to see someone (you) giving a scammer their just deserts. My eternal best wishes for you and those you love.
Highly Entertaining! I also like to troll these people but they usually catch on after the first week so kudos to you for keeping this one on the line for so long.
Fantastic. I'm impressed by how you're able to spot the red flags, I wish I had that kind of knowledge, perception and the ability to connect dots. And the silver tongue ofc.
Priceless! Priceless! There are a lot of scambaiting TH-camrs who are very entertaining while they delete the files of the scammers and otherwise drive them crazy. Your fluency in Chinese probably was a special "twist of the knife" that just ruined "Salad's" day.
It seems so silly that someone can get pulled into these things. But loneliness can be a real " handicap" in seeing thru them. Not so long ago my good friend went thru a nasty divorce that left him heart broken. One day we were chatting and he started talking about a "lady" he met online. He was so excited . Then he showed me a pic. She was ridiculously gorgeous, and then he stated she needed some help and he had send some gift cards. I felt terrible having to convince him he was being scammed.
Tough situation, you were a true friend. What these people steal more than $$ is people’s hope, generosity, and even their confidence in their own judgment ( ok the fact that they got sucked in might suggest their judgment is off for whatever reason), but much more than money is fleeced. I hope your friend finds healing of his whole situation.
It sounds silly to get caught in something like - I always thought so up until I get into situation when I was lonely an desperate and was approached by such scammer. Thankfully didn’t lost too much money then but it was a lesson for me - everyone can fall into such trap.
I remember this scam myself. I used some dating apps during covid to try and meet people and roughly once a week I got a chinese scammer. I got wise about it because money always became a subject of conversation and then investment, and usually crypto.
Back in 1988, in Sichuan, when I was backpacking across China, I was victim of a (simpler) pig-butchering scam that involved the theft of a rented bicycle, against which my passport had been held as collateral. I can remember telling off a crowd of gathered locals - all of whom had apparent knowledge of the scheme - the phrases 邓小平为你感到羞愧 and 你的祖先会为你感到羞耻, which may not have been commonly heard out of the mouth of a 22-year-old American tourist, but honestly attracted a huge, startled crowd who looked genuinely like they had seen a ghost. My Princeton and Middlebury Chinese was never more fluent, I’m ashamed to say, than when I was very angry. 我现在已经忘记了我所有的中文。Thanks for your videos.
Really enjoyed your interesting story. One thing you might not know is that “women are made of water and men are made of dirt” is a famous quotation from Jia Baoyu in Hong Lou Meng (The Red Chamber Dreams”, a famous Chinese novel of Ming dynasty. Best wishes to you and your family.

What a disgusting scammer! But then again, all scammers are disgusting. Thanks for a great story!!
This is simple chinese way of scamming. loads of them. ive had my share. sometimes 5 a week. As long as u manage to frustrate them its quite amusing and entertaining. And they come up with those esotherical sounding mistakes like "Women are made of water". haha
And even sent a picture of a tranny not even a normal woman 😢

Rule: Never send money to someone you haven’t met in person. Most scammers are pretty easy to spot. If they are super hot, never meet you, and ask for money, they are a scammer for sure.
I have an even stronger rule. I never send money to even people I’ve met.. lol

As soon as he related that I knew.
It's pretty much used like 'how are you'.
I use a similar greeting, Hello, have you voided your bowels yet?

(what kind of logic, so stupid)
And after that, he started to use perfect Simplified Chinese to chat.
Keeping them waiting is rewarding somehow.
coz then one has some control at least
Loved the ending. I would have liked to see the scammer's face when you started texting in Chinese. LOL
Good job man. There needs to be more people putting these scammers to their place.
this stuff is very risky. don't do it unless you are very well informed about how to protect yourself online. do you reserach. don't just respond to the first scammer you think would be fun to mess with.

As always, great content on this channel. I dig everything about Mr Serpentza. Keep doing what you are doing and all the very best.
Heartbreaking
I hope he learned his lesson.
