Great review. I've had my C5 for almost a year and it's been an awesome little wheel. I have big hands so the paddle shifters don't bother me at all. This is my second wheelbase from Cammus. On my main rig, I have the DDWB21 15nm base which I've had for 2 1/2 years. Both of my bases have been problem free and given me many hours of fun. Most of the folks that talk bad about the company have never used their products, so take opinions with a grain of salt.
yeah i like the look too, so weird and cool, there's actually this European or Australian car i think called the C5 and the steering wheel looks very similar, even though there's no relation.
Great video Shaun! When I first saw this setup a few months ago this was the first place I looked. Unfortunately you hadn't reviewed it yet but now that you have I'll be sure to send all my buddies here wanting to get into sim racing. Keep up the good work, been a long time fan, actually watching your interview with Jessica you shot in 2018! Those were the days!
Nice review. Very helpful. Been using a G920 for nearly 10 years and never taken the plunge to DD as I don't believe my spend on simracing should be mega bucks! Very tempted to get this wheel, not just for the price point but the small size and easy removal from my pc area which I use for lots of pc activities, sim racing just being one. Well made and produce vid. great stuff.
Moza R3 vs Cammus C5 - no brainer. I bought the Cammus and saved a couple of hundred AUD. Also, my VR headset suggests I don't need to worry about the look of the wheel. I have mixed feelings about the pedals, and will probably invest in pedals, shifter or even handbrake one day. But out of the box, this is great.
what a product!!! This thing could be a game changers for the entry level market, we'll have to see how the ecosystem evolves before we make the final call though. In order for it to really succeed it's going to need to have really good compatibility, and with it being PC only at the moment, I can't see it being compatible with the snowrunner type games, which I think are the more important titles for systems like this. Fingers crossed they keep going with it though, the price is definitely enticing!
It is compatible with the original SpinTires, even though it's not listed on their compatibility site. They do list MudRunner as also being compatible. I haven't tested SnowRunner to know. Game compatibility is very hot and miss overall though. The big sims are all supported, but smaller games or more arcade titles are really a gamble.
Are you certain the paddles on yours are metal? I bought one a couple months ago, and it still had the plastic paddles. Mine are fine so far, but they've been known for breaking. I have heard recently buyers had extra paddles included in the box. If they have updated the design, I'd love to see closeups for confirmation.
@@FellowshipOfTheAviatorZ First I've heard of a red center stripe as well, but they do seem to change the stripe color with revisions. Mine's yellow, older ones were orange or green I think. Do you have pictures of the new paddles up anywhere?
looks like they switched the paddles to metal according to your review, from other i saw they say they break easily. thank goodness i have a 3d printer, i have this wheel ordered and coming
I’ve been wringing my hands for weeks over the Cammus C5 or the Moza R5. I’d love to get into sim racing on a budget until I can figure out if i’m into it long-term and the cammus is easily a better value (cammus is $130 less than the moza bundle) but the terrible cammus pedals makes me hesitant. If I stuck with racing then getting a cockpit and loadcell pedals would be a good upgrade while the cammus keeps that cost down vs moza being more expensive.
Buy the C5, but buy different pedals. Save money where it makes sense, but don't cheap out where it matters. FWIW though, sounds like they've started including a brake mod kit in the C5P pedals. I still would look elsewhere, but it should at least help if you go that route.
I'm in your exact position. I'm looking to get into racing but I can't decide between the c5 or r5. Everything about the c5 looks good but I've also heard negatives about the pedals. Hoping black Friday will make the decision easier. Let me know what you end up doing
@@splash5900 I bought the Moza R5 (local microcenter on sale) and i've been happy so far. Desk setup and pedals do slide around if they are not weighed down but the ability to change pedal distance to line up with my legs is really nice.
Why do sim racing people refer to "gamey" and "controller" feeling buttons as an inherent negative? It just seems a bit closed-minded and perhaps a bit snobbish, like being 'too rich/refined' for games and anything that gives a similar feel. I grew up with a controller in my hands since the 90s. So controller-quality buttons are a familiar and good thing to me. There's good reason controller buttons are the way they are. They fuction well and last a long time. Objectively speaking, that's not bad. I'd rather have long-lasting functional buttons than premium-feeling buttons that may lose functionality faster. Function over fashion.
It's not so much that gamey buttons are bad to use. But I think when it comes to simracing, you want a button that has a nice tactile feel, so you are not guessing if it took or night while racing others.
Honestly, Cammus has been updating software and hardware the entire time. I think a review today is in some ways more useful, though this one wasn't in depth enough to cover all the details. Early software only supported per postition mapping for the knobs. New software allows positional or directional mapping for the knobs. Newer models have included extra paddles in the box, since they're plastic and known for breaking. On that note, I'd love to see a second look to confirm if they really made a metal paddle & it wasn't a review error.

i've heard big hands and the C5 do not go hand-in-hand (due to the paddle shifters)
@@dabneyoffermein595 I've had no issues with the size. Solid little wheel.
Everyone hating on how it looks while I absolutely love the look. Definitely gonna get this in the near future.

Its a neat idea, but it does look like a bumper car wheel. Thank you for the review. Peace✌️

Mine are metal and came with extras in the box
Red stripe on the wheel though. Not sure if that indicates an updated unit or just random. No way to choose with these.

It is actually a 7.8Nm base. Measured by myself. Sustained for over 40 seconds, so it is as powerful as the 8Nm Fanatec.

Cheapest for a reason, good luck ever getting any support from the company lmao
Company supports it very well.
Just NOT cool or good looking
Too bad this has been out for over like a year. You’re way late to the party on this one!

it’s still being sold so the dude’s not late
Sad to see you support this kind of company
please show up for The Pitstop tomorrow morning and tell me why
🤣A company like what? Someone that has made something different from a black box you clamp a wheel to, or because there a Chinese company?
What is wrong with the company? Genuinely asking
@@zzzap4778 Nothing wrong with this company. Solid products and solid customer support.
I bought one and the product is awesome and so is the support. Sad to see people like you not owning the product yet giving bad comment
Shame they don't work on console, i reckon a lot of guys starting out with a wheel would go for something like this.
