Do enough sailing and you should find what you need out in the oceans. Be careful if you pull up in a storm, as your boat can easily get wrecked if you park too close. Happened to me and 2 friends, our ship capsized and broke and they died while I just floated and waited for them to sail back out and fish me out of the drink. You might be able to get enough from one trip if you're solo, quick and have an iron pick, but you'll probably need to find two in the end.
I've built the boar machine. It dumps the pigs into a max depth pit. Staring into that pit ...... is the most disturbing thing I've seen in a video game in my life.

I recently built a boar machine in my base. Usually there's 20+ boars in it. Was doing things in base at night and I hear this massive scream! Sounded like a dragon or something. Wet myself, so I changed to wolf pants and armoured up. Not knowing what made this horrific sound, I prepared for the worst. Was searching for it but couldn't find anything out of the usual. Then hear it again coming from the direction of the meat grinder. I see a skeleton firing arrows at a torch on the wall surrounding the base. Sometimes he and missed, and a arrow hit the boar machine, triggering all the 20-50 boars to cry out at the same time. Will build a similar wolf machine now. Need to get that wolf fur flooring done!
To all the people who are complaining about him switching to repair to destroy stuff... WE KNOW!!! We switch to hammer because we don't want a wall in our face when we are destroying stuff. Honestly don't know how you guys are going around destroying stuff without switching to hammer.

@@Firespark81 wouldnt a halfwall with a spiked wall on top work? The little piggies wouldnt get hit cuzz they are too small and when they grow up the would get hit (maybe not sure if their hitbox is big enough for that)
Tried this and practiced harpooning with normal boars first. When I right click "boar released" it falls down from the tower. I double-checked that my setup is identical, except that I don't have that fall-off behind tower. Edit after several hours of experimenting: The tower works, but I found it less risky to place two wooden gates 1/2 tiles further from the boar pen. This way the doors push pigs and piggies, but closing them does not drag them out of their place. Also putting horizontal wooden bar behind doors helped to keep them in place. The only problem I've had after those is that food is really hard to aim, and it sometimes lands to platform in a way that board cannot reach it even when it's right next to them. Might be lack of tossing practice. Great idea this machine btw!
I super appreciate that section at the end where you explained the spacing limitations. As soon as I get back into the game (waiting for computer repairs) I'm going to try building this with multiple upper pens at the 5-space breeding limit, and using angled chutes to direct the piggys into a single lower pen. Fantastic video, and I'm so glad to see this kind of ingenuity applied to Valheim. Am subscribe; much thank!
The spacing demonstration was useful....now I can build 4 of those with a large pen underneath and use the first 6 two stars to fill those 3 additional breeders and have a 4 breeder setup for ludicrous amounts of meat.

They may also eventually wander into them when pathing - although I think the spikes would break over time from use. Also, workbenches may stop items tossed by the player from despawn if but if the boar dies it’s drops may still despawn if you leave it be for too long
@@sths160 I haven’t seen them take fall damage, but we didn’t test higher - that’s a good idea though. The question becomes if they take damage do they keep it when they grow up? I havnt tested these, but it’s a bit difficult to get true automation without somthing similar to redstone in the game lmao
I made this without the harpoon. I used 26 degree roofs to make a 6 segment high wall then attached at the bottom of it a breeding pit. I penned off the bottom of the ramp and tamed two boars. After being tamed I pushed the pigs up it and got them in place.
I ended up with this too. Pit and roofing. You can also use this trick to breed wolves like crazy. I noticed once there are too many too close together, their breeding seemed to taper off and eventually stop despite always being fed and happy.
yea you have to feed them. Although Elliwesis who was credited in the video was doing some other testing and informed me that they can breed multiple times off one eat. However it is only a 50% chance each time they breed that they will actually have a baby.
this is hilarious. I feel like you could do the same kind of thing without the huge contraption by setting up a pen that has a narrow gap that only piglets could leave by and enter another pen. Wouldn't be a guarantee that they would, of course. Good stuff though.
2 small notes. He skipped 1 small step at 4:57 you can see it that he stacked 1 extra beam on each of the outside piece of the ramp to make the wall (no big deal). The other is that 0 star boars are too small for this and will slip out. Need the bigger boars.
so does it need 2 star boars? 1 star boars don't work? I'm having an issue where the piggy will sometimes spawn up with the 2 boars and then get fully grown and it keeps happening.
@@CoriolisEffec7 not sure. I know 0 stars are too small. I've even had the 2* one slip out as I was making it but got it to stick with fiddling. This was the only one I used a cheat for, to spawn 2* boars to get it going because I looked and looked after the 0 star ones failed.
I was wondering if enemy's have vulnerablities ie blunt, slash, and peirce? If so, which ones to what. That would be awesome information when deciding on what gear to bring to which biomes. Thanks for the consideration.
They do, you can easily see for yourself just by hitting an enemy. Grey number means it resists the type of damage your weapon does. White number means it neither resists or is weak to that weapon type. Yellow number means it is weak to that weapon type.
@@thecodster1106 the valheim wiki show the weaknesses of most ennemies and all the bosses so you can easily prepare for them if you want it’s super useful

Now that this is patched and boars won't eat off of floors, you could just dig a pit and convert the wood parts to terrain. I think that way would be far less technical and maybe a lot quicker.
I had a bit of an issue where the boars weren't breeding. I had to destroy a few of the wood pieces holding them in, and give them a bit more space and then they started eating. Thank you for the guide
Yes all animals are the same when it comes to breeding and such. I do however not know if this exact setup with drop the pups properly because they are a different size as are the adult wolves.
Very interesting build, but people should also keep in mind this is mainly useful for multiplayer servers with several players, where natural means of food may be a bit more limited. It's not a way to limit space, as the build looks fairly sized already (even more so if you do a second pen to double spawning essentially), but a loophole to get around breeding limitations.
If you throw 30 carrots at once (one bundle) does it get eaten in one go or will they just eat one of the 30 carrots each time they feed? So if you threw 1 carrot 30 times will that last 30 times longer than 30 carrots thrown once?
From my understanding it works with wolves but Viranna (one of the others who’s been testing this) would know more. I imagine the top pen or design may be changed but the concept and sphere distance should be the same.
It mostly works, wolves are slightly bigger so I had to not use the door and also had to put more floors then remove from under the wolves to position them.
I wonder if you could possibly achieve similar results by digging and making a pen deep under ground that is 5 platforms low. That way there’s no need for an elaborate ramp?
It definitely works, our initial testing used that method but like @felzora said, it takes a lot more work to dig then build. I have an video with older designs on my channel with pits and digging my into a hill to lessen the amount of digging
I'd be interested in a video highlighting the thing you call "stasis", basically which things work while you are far away and which don't? Do the boars only breed when you're close or can I build this farm anywhere in the world and don't have to worry about it. Maybe it would be good to have a video to list all the things that don't get frozen in time when a player isn't near and the things that do.
It’s the ramp to get the boars up. You could dig into a hill, or build off a cliff, so long as the pit is 5 tiles below the top breeding chamber. It’s just easier to harpoon the boars and drag them up the ramp then to build a staircase and push them up it.

You can breed wolves this way, although the top chamber size may need to be adjusted idk. The check distance and breed mechanics are otherwise the same

You just need a second tier catch pit beneath the first full of spikes so when the pit overflows the excess boars are "processed."

Having problems with the boars moving forward a clipping through the front of the “catch” they’re tilting forward and unable to eat off that platform.

They get eaten one by one, so a 30 stack will feed 30 boars.

That is a lot more work, great for piers and impenetrable bases, but idk about for a boar farm.

Do the boars only breed when you're close or can I build this farm anywhere in the world and don't have to worry about it. Maybe it would be good to have a video to list all the things that don't get frozen in time when a player isn't near and the things that do.

Can you make a version of this for wolves. I need over 200 wolves and i just want a system like this.

They're a lot larger than boars, so most likely a different structure, probably already working on it, lol.
open the console turn on cheats and type spawn Wolf 200 then very quickly type tame. Probs best to do it elevated so you dont insta die.

Nice build. I recommend explaining why you do this elaborate beam fortress before showing the build though.
It’s the ramp to get the boars up. You could dig into a hill, or build off a cliff, so long as the pit is 5 tiles below the top breeding chamber. It’s just easier to harpoon the boars and drag them up the ramp then to build a staircase and push them up it.
@@elliwesishawkins4799 I know. It's explained at the end of the video and I believe it should be explained first so that when you watch, you know what the end goal is. You don't write a book and put 'The butler did it' in the first chapter either.

Thank you so much for saving me the time by experimenting with the 5* sphere limit. I love you breeding cage setup, and I plan to expand on it and streamline it to a veritable automated slaughterhouse. Can you do the same thing with wolves?
Should this still work? The boars don't seem to be able to reach the carrots at their feet and are remaining hungry
The big question is... Would that work with wolfs or should it need some adaptations ? then no need for a field, the breeder would feed itself with the amount of meat 2stars wolfs would produce
You can breed wolves this way, although the top chamber size may need to be adjusted idk. The check distance and breed mechanics are otherwise the same
