It’s a sad state of affairs the decline in the motor cycle industry insurance costs are a joke fuel prices a decent crash helmet is five hundred you can see why youngsters are avoiding bikes now it makes me sad that their missing out on such a lovely experience owning and riding a motorcycle 😢

California rider here. I took the Beginner's MSF course for $225 back in 2018. Now it costs $425! I know that they operate at close to At Cost, but it just sucks that in general, EVERYTHING is so much more expensive post COVID.

I just bought a new bike yesterday. My previous bike was 1750cc and this new one is below 300cc. Trying to save money on insurance and it's still over a grand per year. Spent $1500 some moto gear. It's definitely not an inexpensive mode of transportation. It's more of a hobby or luxury toy.

I'm having to do a voluntary termination with my finance company because I bought a electric moped in 2022 from seat called the seat mo 125 and it's been in the dealership for nearly two years and they can't fix it or won't fix it, so unfortunately I have gone back driving a car, I love riding bikes but the UK roads have become so dangerous for bikers, also the cost of motorcycles are massively over priced, I honestly can't see the industry surviving until the prices drop and the cost of doing your full motorcycle test is way too expensive so that has put me off doing the test. I just hope manufacturers will drop the price

It's a shame the way its going at the moment.
    Servicing costs are ridiculous, agreed.
And insurance.... They're all at it, they know what they're doing

I honestly see the UK as the last bastion of hope when it comes to bikes I actually like, so I have been watching with massive concern over how things are shaping up. Dealers cost of service and such is definitely a major issue, a lot of new prices on bikes are also insane, I think Suzuki are on of the few doing a good job there.
It's bikes man, no government cares about bikes sadly.
Haha couldn't' agree more on the simple bikes. I think people would have a lot more fun on something they can afford to have fun on eh!
I detest arguing with insurance. Never had an accident that was reported on a bike ever, still goes up. Probably one of my least favourite things.

The government needs to step in and do something about insurance, it's criminal and no wonder why there are so many uninsured drivers and riders on the roads in the UK... I also think the cost of bikes has a lot to do with pushing people to take out credit rather than cash purchase, that way more money is made off the consumer, once again the rich get richer :/

It's all too expensive, bikes, servicing, insurance, helmets and clothing, parts and accessories, The bike industry has been mugging us off for years, Then you have pot hole ridden roads, horrible weather for most of the year, Bike thefts on the rise, speed cameras, and is it me or is the standard of driving in this country on the decline? Is there more people driving hear on foreign licences? Or has the standard just dropped? Or is it because the roads are so crowded and conjested and everyone is pisst off and angry?

No decline in the third world, I live in the Philippines now. Huge decline in Canada where riding is only done as entertainment and younger people are much more interested in the newest handheld computer that any sort of motor vehicle.

It’s unsurprising, bikes have got more and more expensive, some toe rag will steal your bike first chance the get, insurance is prohibitively expensive for youngsters.

I was gonna comment about how it doesn't seem like it's on the decline, but then I realized.. oh wait, that's Europe
Still seems like it's going strong here in the US, at least
I just got my first bike, Honda Rebel 1100 for under $10k, I only pay $133 every six months for my insurance, fill up twice a week for $8 at a time, and I plan on doing my own service because I'm a mechanic by trade so why would I pay someone else lmao

  • @BlakesPipes
    @BlakesPipes 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

2 or 300 for a service? That's a steal. 14k service on my concours was 999. and my 8k service on the W800 was 470. I did them in the same week. But I won't bring them back for another 2 years

@@tomstc no, my BMW was never less then 1200 dollars up to 1800 dollars. It would also take week to get your bike back. I always told people that I must be 1/4 jew, as I was so tight. Then someone told me that the Scottish are tight also. So it made sense. I pay for good service if they are good people and know you are spending your money at there place. If I look at all they did, I paid full price, and I also give them 20 bucks for pizza each time, even if it for inspection. It's like tipping the bartender on your first drink 20 bucks. They will make sure your taken care of. But my pipes are cheap as chips. I also do not go out to eat unless I am making a video.i can make that shit taste better then the restaurant 99 percent of the time.

Trick is to buy a well looked after used bike out of warranty. Service yourself, and find a reputable third party garage to carry out the big services ( valve clearances etc) unless you can do it yourself of course. The new bike market I would agree yes declining but there are so many good used bikes out there.

Ok, this is going to be confrontational... Tom, dear fellow..., the facts are in North Western Europe that young people do not seem to care about motorcycles, nor motorcycling. The maximum to be achieved with these youngsters usually is them to step off their 50Cc Moped Scooter on to a Motor-Scooter until they settle down and get a car, but exceptions will always be there... It mostly is the older generation now, roughly 40+ I'd say, which still is attracted to motorcycling and things about older generations is that they are to be compared to dinosaurs. The day that Dinosaurs would die out to Dinosaurs was at least as unbelievable and shocking as it is to us: Motorcyclists. Yes, the younger generations after us have decided that our older generations are going to die out just like the dinosaurs did, since they could not care less about motorcycles and motorcycling. So dear Tom, you are a dinosaur, just like I am, and all other motorcyclists are, thanks to those young kids, caring about a stupid cell phones and public transport more than they care about motorcycles.
In fact, it is even worse... Take cars for example: There is an entire generation trying to get their driver's license now, if they even bother to do so, and they learn to drive in, to a rapidly increasing extent, Electric cars, of which the vast majority is an Automatic with at least 7 million driver assist in the cars constantly driving the car partially for the young students. Now how big of a chance will there be that these students after successfully obtaining a driving license, will be able to drive off in a random "old" car with a manual gearbox and no drivers aids and manual windows and so on...? I mean, even the kids today will have to own their own vehicle one day and not everybody will be able to purchase a brand-new EV, or a young used EV, so these kids end up in exactly the same situation we ended up in: Get a 15-year-old car and gain experience, that is to say, if they know what the keys are for, that came with the car and where you stick this one key and what is that third pedal for, and how do you drive off with this ancient technique car and so forth. So what will this mean to classic car enthusiasts and their classic car collections, nobody of this new generations knows how to handle...
This also goes for motorcycles, by the way...and the way our old generations (us current motorcyclist and current car enthusiasts) look at Steam Locomotives, the way youngsters from now look at our 80s dream cars, our poster cars thinking OMG this is ancient, and they will not even be able to drive off with such a piece of for example 80s technique, so to them, it probably is worth nothing to them; a for example 1985 Lamborghini Countach or a 80s Ferrari F40, or a 2024 Ducati Monster, or a 2005 Yamaha MT-01, or a 2024 MT-07 or any bike for all that matters.
Enjoy your bike while you can as long as you can, since all generations of youngsters will probably not be bothered with Motorcycling

I think I paid £10k for my 2013 Kawasaki ZX636R new, so the Honda Hornet 1000 with Ohlins rear suspension and Stylema Brembos along with the more advanced rider aids is a steal at £10k 11 years later.... There are some cheapish new bikes available, it is only really the hyper/mega bikes that are crazy priced in reality, and they always were when compared to pay/inflation etc. I think the biggest reason for the UK decline in motorcycling is the lack of parents getting their teenagers into mopeds and 125cc bikes and the influx of eScooters and eBikes that are effectively free to run as long as you have a balaclava if it is derestricted... so the only folk getting into bikes are the Uber and Deliveroo riders who will not ever be interested in getting a big bike.
So the UK biker is becoming a dinosaur as no new blood is coming in.
I wish servicing cost £200, think the next one on my Tuareg will be around £1k LOL... am really looking forward to that one. I run a multibike policy, I think last renewal was around £700 for 4 bikes, which I can cope with, but I think it has all gone up now so am expecting the next renewal to be a bit more... and will start ditching bikes if it goes stupid I guess as I can only ride one at a time.

If you buy bikes that need the dealer software like KTM... it's your fault if you buy this crap. No japanese brand requires a special dealer to do the work. I bought all the original Yamaha tools and diagnostic tools to do the service myself. I do everything on my own. Tyres, brakes, suspension, service work... Haven't been to a dealer in years since I bought the Tracer and Tenere. Every part and tool can be bought by anyone on the internet. The only thing you need to do is to learn how to use them.
