Well, Tom, you've succeeded! Thank you for pointing this out to us, how it's done, because one can be very hesitant to start an operation like this to begin with. Say Tom, I've noticed that your MT-01 does not very much produce this typical Exup valve closing rumble when you're shutting down the throttle, I mean my 2005 MT-01 does! You know; like the sound of a big lorry using the engine brake kinda sound. I do hear your bike make this typical sound, but not as much as mine does. So, did you modify your Exup valve, or is it changed due to your Akropovic mufflers... ? Every time I close my throttle, I hear this sound and automatically my engine starts braking the bike. It's not extreme, but noticeable. Maybe you know why...?
@dutchyjhome thanks for the note, the exup valve is still there and the noise you described still evident. However the microphone doesn't really pick it up now I've noticed with my new DJI camera.
Thanks for the very clear and useful video, Tom. Much appreciated. I will certainly use it for when it is my turn to replace the fuel filter and (possibly) fuel pump. So far my bike is running great (knock on wood) but I was considering at least replacing the fuel filter in the spring, as 'preventive maintenance'. Just a different question: I noticed at 0:34 that you replaced the oil dipstick by a very nice oil thermometer (which I assume has a dipstick attached to it). Do you perhaps have a link of where you purchased this? Thanks!!
No problem at all, I like doing videos like this, they are very time consuming though. The Oil Temp gage is this one ebay.us/ZoHnWW its in Germany though. Its great just to keep an eye on things, one thing I will say though is the dip stick is bit shorter. Its a good idea to measure where the oil is on the original one and make a mark on the new one.
@@tomstc Thanks for the link! That oil temp gauge looks good indeed but the additional 50 EUR shipping costs (to Canada) makes it a bit much... I will try to find a similar item on this side of the pond.
Hey mate, just got myself a 2006 MT01. I really like the stainless MT01 intake nameplates and the brake fluid reservoirs you have. Could you point me in the right direction to get those? Thanks!
The name plates sometimes come up on ebay, so keep an eye out on there, mine actually came with the bike. The reservoirs are cheap Chinese universal ones with a very simple alu bracket made up.
Ive been meaning to ask, what was the mileage on your bike when this problem manifested? Grabbing spares for my bike for some preventive maintenance on the common problems - regulator, fuel pump, starter motor and ? Anything you reckon would be worth doing while I've got it stripped down?
Hi Tom did you take the opportunity to clean the tank out before refitting the fuel pump as this new fuel Is playing havoc with the inside of our petrol tanks That’s what knackered the pump 😅
It’s the.fuel that’s the issue modern fuel encourages moisture into the fuel tank, obviously leading to rust that’s what blocked your fuel filter burning the motor out it’s a pain, Tom😂
It's so satisfying when you do a repair on your own bike 😊
It sure is!!!!
That's half the reason I do it, the other half is it saves me money!
Beautiful, she lives!! 😂
Nice to see and especially hear it out and about again Tom 👍
@@Tojj29 thanks mate
Mine does this aswell allways on the first try, but after the second try fires it up! Maybe need to pay attention to this aswell. Thanks Tom!
No worries

@@tomstc OK, yes of course, thank you for your answer. That could be a thing as well, never thought about that 😃 .

@tomstc Awesome, thanks for the reply. I'll keep an eye out!

@LookingForEntertainment112 mines done 50k now so around that mark.
What age is yours?
@tomstc it's a 2006 with 30,000km/18,600mi now.
@LookingForEntertainment112 ok cool. I think your good, check the link bearings on the swingarm
@@tomstc Great tip, will do!
The parts costs is daft. Same way it was cheaper for me to get a full system exhaust instead of a stock one.

Even although I traded my MT01 for the Valkyrie still enjoyed the video ...I think the starting issues I had with my MT01 put me off the bike.
