Oh my goodness! I've watched a ton of videos on Gelli printing, as I'm new to this, but this one is my absolute favorite! Fabulous ideas, concise and well explained and no loud, annoying music. Thank you so much for this. Subscribed immediately! 🌻
Leeks! Who knew! I will look at the produce section of my grocery store in a very different way. My head is popping with so many ideas now. Thank you so much!
Clare, what a fabulous outcome on all those prints! I really liked the one with the leek (who would have thought to do that!). The textile one with the scarf made me think of all the material I have that could do this (and old scarves which now will be redirected to my studio 😊)…and then I thought, “I need to make some textile plates with glue”…great idea! Thank-you once again for sharing all of this. Have a great day!
Only found you today but I’m loving your work! This particular video made me smile - we were house & pet sitting a few months ago and the poo bag inners all came home with me with this use in mind! They worked out so well.
I just discovered your channel and am inspired! I'm going to get out my hot glue gun and buy a leek this weekend. I've had my dog for just three months but I already have quite a collection of pooh bag centers. I knew they would be fantastic as an art tool! :-)!!
Hi Clare, I love the effect that the fringed scarf gave you - it reminded me of a jelly fish. Brilliant ideas for using simple things we already have in and around the home.
Thanks for sharing Clare, I just started gelli printing this summer, I like using different things for texture, love the leek, as it reminds me of wood grain, with the 2 different tones, must get my hubby’s glue gun and do some texture plates. They’re all fab , the tassels could represent a waterfall, love the copper tone.😍
A leek is one of my favorite vegetables for cooking, and it may well become one of my favorite art supplies! And I always thought the centers of pooh bag rolls were too cute to throw away. You have some very clever techniques up your sleeve, Clare. Thank you!
At first I thought you were talking about some fancy art term, then I realized you meant an actual leek, the food! Surprising and wonderful! I also love the scarf fringe.
Thank you Clare! I have just found you and subscribed! Love your textures, leeks and scarf tassels etc. I especially love your botanical gel prints the most :) 😍😍😍
I'd have never thought of printing with a leek. Love the lines it creates. Really looking forward to giving it a go, and I'm sure I've got a scarf with tassels on somewhere round here too. Some great ideas to try out, thanks!
Fabulously creative! …and I’ve watched a lot of gel-plate tutorials! Thank you. Can’t wait to try! For me, it’s between the leeks and the scarf fringe. Wow!
Loved this lesson, clear and well explained without losing the inspiring content, thankyou. I'm definitely going to experiment with leeks and scrunchy paper! Subscribed to your channel.
Thank you, I use 160gsm cartridge paper. It’s just a little thicker than regular copy paper and takes the paint well, especially then I’m adding multiple layers. 🙂
Your work is lovely. I am going to start again with mine. I tried using some flat-ish stones but they don’t really print well. Where do you get your cut stones? I can’t find any.
Hi Clare, I'm not sure what you mean by cut stones? The pebbles I used during my other video are just pebbles that I have collected over the years from the beach. 😊
Leeks are my favourite texture too! In my mixed media artwork I often draw into my Gelli prints. I like to define and highlight shapes using a white gel pen. I also use grey fine-liners to draw into my Gel prints. My absolute favourite is to draw into my Gel prints with free machine embroidery. Would you like me to put together a video of this?
Suggestion: Use gel prints as backgrounds for your drawing, either draw directly on or collage/transfer your drawing onto the gel print using Matt medium
A definition of art copied directly from the 'Oxford Languages' site is as follows:- 'the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power'. Obviously, there are individuals who feel Clare's work is art. And if you are judging what she creates from this video alone, then it may be wise to remember that this is a tutorial containing ideas for the creation of prints - not necessarily depicting the final products that can be created.
Now I’m looking at leeks, cabbages, beets, etc in a whole new way! Super fun!!!

Beautiful textures and easily accessible to try. Thank you. How long do you wait to "pull" the print?
It really depends on how warm it is where you are printing. I pulled these prints pretty much straight away 🙂
