Just have to say my VXR is an absolute savage and my bank account is opting with ignorance is bliss. Love to see these videos because believe it or not it makes me sleep better at night knowing I can wait 2 years and grab a lift when they’re used for sale. Both are beautiful bows
Any of the Mathews flagship bows of the past 3-4 years are very solid: VXR, V3, V3X, and Phase 4. Since bows depreciate like new cars, going used is a good option too. Seeing the Phase 4 go for around $800-900 used bare bow.
I’m new to compound. I have a TRX from 2019. I’m pretty pleased with it… got it with a shibuya sight and some good stabilisers. It’ll do me well until my technique is good enough for new shiny.
Only problem with these old verse new tests are that the shooter is has only been shooting the new bow and even if the old can shoot just as good as new, chances are the test won’t reflect that because the shooter isn’t as comfortable with the old bow. Maybe spend some equal practice time with both bows then try it again
I know i just bought a lift because I’m getting new strings on my v3x and the lift is a sweet shooter light but holds rock solid I don’t have any stabilizers on it. But I’m still not used to shooting the lift yet. I’m gonna be using that as a backup for my v3x.
I have been shooting the Traverse for four years and have always felt it to be stable and comfortable (which it is), but, I went in to try out a lift 33 the other day and it is without doubt superior in just about every way. I don't really get excited about integrate stuff but the draw was easier at same poundage and although I didnt use a chrono it is said to be faster, and the light weight is striking, when i was handed the bow, i was expecting more weight and my hand shot up as i gripped it, lucky it was a high ceiling otherwise i wouldve put the top cam through the roof.
Iv shot a no cam for a few years and when I picked the lift up off the rack at the shop I banged the cam against to top of the rack. It's crazy how much lighter the new bows are
I think my favorite thing about your channel is that you never hide when things don’t go well when you shoot. Thank you for showing the awesome and the not so awesome!
Still hunting with VXR. I've shot each Mathews bow yearly since the VXR was released and have yet to shoot one that makes me want to put it on the shelf (including the Lift).
I’m not a pro shooter by any chance but I do shoot pretty often and last year I shot my bow(halon 32) side by side with a new phase 4 at a pro shop and was not impressed. Like I said I’m no pro shooter but the only thing I could feel different between my bow and the phase was the grip angle. Just sharing my experience.
For sure- took a gamble and found a new v3 27 on eBay- 700 bare bow. Just waiting on it to come in and get her set up, I just couldn’t bring myself to spend 1200 plus- on a bare bow.
That vxr set up correctly will shoot right with the lift! Put that vxr in Levi Morgan's hand and let's do this competition again! 😂 good content, I like the fact your saying it's ok to buy a older model bow! VXR, V3,V3X, Phase 4, Lift...all will shoot better than most shooters can make them shoot!
Not a question or comment on this video, but I would like to know if you are ever going to make a Breal grip to go with the Matthew's shot sense? Would like to get a grip but I don't want to be moving back and forth with taking the shot sense in and out.
Just bought a used VXR from ebay for my first bow. Super stoked to learn, thanks for putting out all this content, have already learned so much and don't even have the bow yet.
I love the look of the lift riser... I just wish they didnt do this 8 limb business. There is no need for it and everyone else seems to be doing just find with 4 limbs. Its just more points of potential failure and I honestly question if this is the era we will look back on as the "8 limb" era, and in a couple years they go back to standard split limbs.
Well. Normally I'm a fan of content like this. And your content in general. But this was brutal to watch. Of course the lift with an extra 1.5" of ATA length is going to hold better. Of course with it being the bow you have been shooting daily since it arrived well probably shoot better than the one that's been collecting dust since 2020. But this felt like a "Buy the new lift, so I get the 2025 model for free, too" video.
Chris, have you had any limb issues with your lift? I know you shoot 80lbs and so do I. I watched a video this past week about that and decided to check mine and found a slight splinter. I value your opinion on anything archery and just wanted to know if you have any thoughts on the subject.
Im not even a VXR fan, but dang that felt like a poor comparison with whatever you had going on with that rest. Im another vote for Hamskea over QAD all day everyday.
Still shooting a Halon 6 but the Lift 33 has finally got me chomping at the bit for a new one. Not that my Halon is bad but that 33 lift is lights out for longer shots and being stable. must resist....
Good video Chris….yeah I think all the bow needed was some care after coming off the shelf to shoot bullets…doesn’t really matter though as most just go off feel of the draw and shot to decide between two or more bows at a pro shop…fun content…
Please make a follow up video on what was wrong with the bow. It would be helpful in case we run into a similar situation. I love your technical videos. Thanks man.
Blame the rest. If you take a few minutes and adjust the rest, you won't have this problem. QAD would have the same problem. Fix the bow, redo the challenge, and give both both a fair chance. Love the videos. Keep them coming
Love your stuff, but the video competition of the two bows to me just wasn't a fair fight especially when you know one bow is having a problem with the rest that's on there I think you should redo that competition but instead of using that rest you had on the vxr why don't you use a QAD integrate arrow rest never have been a fan of a limb driven rest just too many things that can go wrong with the way it's attached to the bow limb I've always used a qad on my Mathews Bows but I'm old school I've always been told if it isn't broke don't fix it, and I've never had a malfunction with a QAD, plus I know you can shoot both bows equally well, looking forward to the redo and pretty sure the vxr will compete equally well as the lift, keep up the great content always looking forward to a new video on TH-cam from you.
Honestly if you get the VXR rest fixed, that bow would shoot dimes. The good shots were better than the lifts and the bad shots were worse than the lifts.
awesome video Chris!! such a shame that the VXR wasnt playing ball, i remember when you set it up and got an insane group at 70yds on that deer, then got a robin hood at 70yds😜
@@aksium_ So you think professional archers who depend on their placement to pay their bills only shoot a Hamskea because they get it free? Do you realize Hamskea only pays $400 for a first place finish? That means the guy who finishes 5th gets no money.
Anyone will shoot better with the bow they have been using regularly. That is why both my primary and back-up bows are set up identically and I alternate between them at the range. If I need to hunt with the back-up, I don't want to be at a disadvantage.
As far as the Hamskea rest, my shop actually attaches the actuator cord to the “O” ring. I don’t know if that would make a difference but I have changed to the QAD ultra rest
It's quite popular to attach the Hamskea cord to the "O ring,"....meaning the yoke harness...however, Hamskea will tell you do NOT attach there. We have done high speed to test that advice too. Since the yoke harness is part of the string system, it moves forward after the shot. When it does that, the rest rises, which can cause interference. I'm not saying it will cause interference....but it can, especially if you are using larger vanes and have the nock spun to lower the vanes. Which is why Hamskea will tell you do not attach there....go the the limb.
You have the limb activation cord tied too close to the tip of the limb on the VXR with Hamskea. The Mathews limbs have too much recoil on the shot and cause the launcher to bounce back up into the vanes when you use the Hamskea bracket that screws into the tip of the limb. The cord should be tied around the limb around 2.5" from the limb tip. Learn how to set up a Hamskea and you will be shooting bullseye seeking lasers. It wasn't the rests fault... operator error.
@@aaronhawk4200 Those instructions are straight from Devin Hall, who might know a little more about this rest than Chris. Thinking for yourself and not being a sheep is freeing, you should give it a try sometime.
If your Hamskea launcher is bouncing enough to create flecthing contact, you don't have it set up correctly. If you have fletching contact, blame the fletching. Gotta love these types of videos posted strictly for clicks/views.
How about a video . On buying a used bow . Guys on a budget. Buying a a bow up to 10yrs old . What to look for . Maybe buying a marketplace bow or pawnshop bow .
All I can say is, garbage comparison video. Saying the vxr is alittle longer draw and saying the peep sight is alittle down too. While the lift is on the perfect draw length and peep is on point lol
Chris, don’t bash brands because you do not have them tuned and set up properly. People all over the country will question and doubt their local archery shop because of what you say about a product. Did you not win a tac truck with that bow and rest?
Not sure this was a direct comparison without the effort to set them as close to identical ? Draw length, anchor, let off, etc, without the setup adjustments the LIFT is set to you now and the VXR is setup to you as you were then (or possibly as you thought you wanted it at the time ?)
Love the vids and content, thank you. But man, u need a different mic/Change the settings, something. Ur audio is always super weird, i don't know if its placement or what...

For reference, Chris shot a 144 in the same test (50m) with a VXR 28 4 years ago. That bow is still a top shooter vs anything.
Am I the only one that can’t hear anything?
Me either
It sounds like I'm hearing it under water?
Can't hear anything either. 🤷♂️

That’s my bow, the VXR 31.5! Love the video and the bow, will be interested to see the results.
Marketing at its finest. Gotta show how a 4 year old bow doesn't shoot as good as a new one, to convince people to go buy a new one. 🙄

🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Not a fair test at all.
Hamskea is easily the best rest on the market. It's not even close!
Has nothing to do with anything. Buy a bow before you speak
Why?
Second this. Hamskea has since refined their dampening design and they no longer do it with the new vs the old design in the video.
I'm a fan, but that was the most slanted "challenge" ever. There was zero chance he was not going to give the nod to the new bow he's pimping.
I have the same rest on my VXR and I get flyers often. I should probably get a whisker for it instead lol
Just bought a used VXR from ebay for my first bow. Super stoked to learn, thanks for putting out all this content, have already learned so much and don't even have the bow yet.
Excellent advice on buying used. I recently purchased a Halon 32-6 for my first flagship level bow and couldn’t be happier.

could be wrong but it sounds like youve got the audio set to mono but with the left ear track only, making my brain itch
Could be audio, only left AirPod works but the VXR sounds quieter

anyone else have audio issues with this video
Same here I thought it was only me
Yes, major
Love the content you put out always something cool or a good learning experience. Can you do v3x vs lift please?
I shoot the vxr 31.5 right now. Ordered my lift first and January and I’m still waiting on it.. but excited for when I get it.
No audio when using 1 AirPod. Audio comes through without a headphone but it sounds off like it’s it asmr mode or something
Personally, I like the VXR more than the Lyft for how it shoots and the accuracy I get.
So what you’re saying is the bows are different?
Hamskea probably gonna lose a million dollars because Chris wouldn't adjust the rest.
