I have a 2017 4th Gen Ram. Some of us out here actually prefer the 4th gen and they can be had in the real world for quite a bit less money.

Yup. Even if they were exact same price I'd buy the Classic. It's the traditional truck with a V8 and no electric nonsense, it has an ignition key, it's proven and it doesn't have all the annoying tech features. That vertical touchscreen in the new one is absolutely disgusting.

Am I the only one who wants a new truck with no toushcreens?
Seriously, all I want is an AM/FM radio and a heater/AC unit.
I don't even want power windows.
All I want is a cheap, reliable, and hard working truck like my Grandfather used to have when I was a boy.

Had a 14 blackout edition reg cab shortbed 4x4 with about 460hp(modded) and loved it. Only thing I wish I had gotten was the 8spd(i got the old 6spd). That thing was so badass looking. The 5th gen doesn't have that badass look. Just looks nice to me. Rebel looks better but still not nearly as aggressive as the updated 4th gen from 2013+.

In my 17 years of driving, I have only owned Dodge Ram trucks. Over the years some brand new some used, some Very used. My current is a 2017 Tradesman 1500 I bought brand new. Sticker was 32,300. I paid 25,000. Every payment made with interest comes out to 29k and some change. Less than base price for it. Deals can be had especially on these base model fleet trucks. I'm old school and like work trucks. Came with a towing package and bedliner. It's a quadcab. Enough room for the family. Currently has 86k miles. I service it myself. The only issue to date was a faulty fuel injector in the 3.6. Took me 45 min to replace, good to go. I pull trailers often. At times exceeding the rating. Overall I'm happy with it. I don't like the brand itself. I feel Ram separates itself from it's customers and enthusiasts. However it's a familiar brand, inexpensive, easy to work on and does what I need. Enjoyed the review Motorweek. I'd go with the classic.

Nice to hear your truck getting used and that youre not afraid of wrenching on a new vehicle. After the first sentence I thought to myself maybe you should try something else, but the more I read, the more I understood that the truck is your perfect vehicle!

Toyota is in the current process of sending more production to Mexico. Just picked up a brand new 2023 Ram Classic Tradesman (with a few packages) and LOVE it!! Don't care about the huge/ugly screen of the new one. The V6 Pentastar is a proven engine with excellent long-term reliability. The 4x4 system is solid and simple. Prefer the bench seat up front than a huge console. The new eTorq systems are not proving to be reliable with quite a few issues/problems - check NHTSA and research. Sometimes, a basic truck is truly all you need - especially with proven reliability and service. The Fords (I am a huge Ford fan and have owned quite a few over the years) are also problematic with the eco-toast motors. Dealer knocked off $16k from the MSRP and I drove mine off the lot for about $32k brand new. If you want a simple, basic (less to go wrong) truck, snag one of these Classics before RAM discontinues the truck.

    Get the 5th gen
Don't know why they still make the 4th gen!
It's like apple still producing the iPhone 11 and the iPhone X

Chrysler/FCA has been doing this for decades...if there's still a market for the "old" version of a vehicle they'll keep producing them until the tooling wears out. Makes sense from an economic standpoint both for them and for consumers, who can usually get a pretty good discount on the older version vs. the new version where FCA is still recouping development costs

FCA has Tons of left over parts to produce the 4th gen truck ..

Because the tooling and machinery are long since paid off and there's clearly still a market.

I just bought a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Laramie ecodiesel MSRP was 50,265. My cost out the door with extended warranty, loan and interest total out of pocket to me will be $32,000 dollars. Oh and that is over 48 months for the loan.
