One thing i noticed about Mopar is that they do new vehicles in stages. First they restyle it then they do the drive train so i wouldn’t be surprised if they come out with a new stronger engine within the next year or two. Maybe a new 6.4 or something. If you look back they do that pretty much every time. I’m gonna wait a year or two before i trade my 2014 in.
The 8 speed and 10 speed difference is so close to null. The real let down is just the continued use of the same engine. The reality is that the Hemi is still a great engine. I’ll keep my current Ram a little while longer though.
GREAT REVIEW. I bought a Used 2019 Ram Big Horn and I LOVE THIS TRUCK! The interior is TOP NOTCH and with the quality of the materials and fit and finished, it's on par with many luxury vehicles. As far as the Exterior is concerned, BEAUTIFUL! Besides, when it comes to the Classic, who wants a Truck that looks like EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE ROAD🤔?
The 5th gen RAM totally dates the 4rth gen and that’s coming from a YUGE 4rth gen RAM fan. (I owned 5 of them) I give a rats patoot about the cross hairs and I’m driving a Power Wagon with the “beard” grille.... I love it. The new grilles look updated and modern. Crosshairs are gone, get over it or buy one in the aftermarket. I’m sure someone will make one and they’ll sell dozens of them :)
I bought my 2019 Ram classic back in April of 2020 and I love this truck! My Ram classic reminds me of the old school muscle cars, just really simple and a hemi v8 screaming through dual exhaust when you put you foot into it.
@@AlejandroP1980s to my knowledge the classic only comes in a 1500. Now you can get the diesel in the 1500 classic, but I think its the 3.0 diesel. You can get them in a short bed to.

@@Hats1976 Yes I have the 4 x 4 with a 5’7 short bed, It’s tough to answer that for you regarding the tires because I live in a suburban area and there’s no four seasons where I live except if I drive to Tahoe which is why I decided to keep my good year tires. I did do a lot of 4 wheeling in Utah and Death Valley and the tires did manage well on their end.
The powertrain is the best thing about the Ram. Gm and Ford both have had major issues with their 10 and 8 speed transmissions and their engines. Toyota’s tundra is reliable but the fuel economy is horrible. The hemi and the pentastar are reliable and efficient. The 8 speed in the ram (also used by some other manufacturers) is the best transmission out there. The effectiveness of their power trains is extremely competitive but also simple and reliable.
I'm glad Ram is continuing with the old body style and the old interior. Hopefully they keep it around for a while. Some like the new styling of the 2019 Ram, and that's fine. To each his own. I like the styling of the outgoing generation. It still reminds me of the Rams that I knew and liked when I was a kid, and I was glad to be be able to get myself a 2018 1500 last year before they changed it and redesigned it. I still like the looks and the basic interior I could get with my Express - it's everything I need and nothing that I don't. No fancy, techy, "froofy" shit that's gonna break a couple of years down the line, just a good truck for daily driving and light duty stuff.
Drove the same 2019 but in V6 last week as a rental and really liked it. The transmission was smooth and it accelerated well. I had no problem with highway passing. The ride was excellent and the seats were comfortable. I’m not sure how reliable Ram is, but it appears to be a winner!
He more than likely meant a 4 or 6 cylinder with a turbocharger with nearly the same output as the v8. Ford and GM are doing that, so why can't Chrysler?
DaniTheNachoPirate maybe if FCA had had the production volume of ford then I could see some major new engine tech. The mild hybrid is something no truck manufacturer is doing currently and sounds like a nice set up.
I don’t mind the new design, but when I first saw it (Laramie edition), it reminded me too much of a Chevy/GMC. Not crazy about the squinty headlights either. Much prefer the 4th gen and the crosshair grill. Wouldn’t trade my ‘16 Big Horn for anything.
I just bought the 2019 Ram Warlock (w/Hemi) crew cab and it is amazing. It’s the classic model but the interior is that of the new generation. So I get best of both worlds. I love it!
Ford did the same thing in 2004 with the F150 I have the new body style 2004 but they still built the 2003 style in 2004 with a badging on the fender classic.
Love the new Ram, In my opinion they made all the right changes and upgrades. Having had both the last gen Hemi/8 speed and the F150 5.0/10 speed....I prefer the ram setup. Much smoother operation and much better sounding. Most of the time the ford is skipping 2nd and 4th anyway so 8 speed seems like the perfect choice.
lee hancock I agree. I have a brand new f150. Nice enough truck but just no where near the level of refinement of my 15 ram let alone the new 19. I'll be going back to ram next lease....I got caught between ram models hence the ford. I also own the Wrangker JL unlimited. The 8 speed/ v6 is amazing. Love it.
Bob Allen It's nice the hear an honest opinion. Ram has been dominating the truck market and that doesn't mean selling more, towing more or carrying more. It means giving equal attention to interior, exterior and capability. It also means giving people more of what they need and not more of what they don't. 10-speeds are not necessary, the highest payload numbers are not necessary and squeezing an extra few HP out of a great performing engine is not necessary. The Ram 1500 is a great overall package, probably not the best at any one thing but the best at everything at once in my opinion. I've had GM trucks, I know guys with Fords and toyotas and it all seems to come back to Ram being good at just about everything.
lat woods While I'm sure that's true for predominantly work vehicles, a large majority of sales are used as a anything from an everyday driver, family hauler, with light use in hauling and work. I use mine for both and according to recent trends quality of interiors and fit and finish are very important to most buyers. Matters not to me if I'm driving the number one seller or number 3. Also having 2 Rams I can attest to their durability and quality. Just a matter if needs and priorities.
I don't understand why ram NEEDS to offer all new powertrains? the v8 they offer is tried and true and quite frankly probably the most reliable considering how long they've been around.
false. complete fabrication. The GM 5.3 has very well known valvetrain problems. The ford ecoboost... well come on we all know the problems that motor has had. Go sell crazy somewhere else.
The 2019 model got rid of the fender mounted antenna which is great! I remember having to take mine off every time i went through a car wash. And when the antenna would hit a tree branch driving on the road I dreaded looking at the aftermath damage on the fender caused by it! And they finally replaced the outdated cooling clutch fan with and electric one!
I bought a 2019 Classic, and it's a damn fine truck. Last year on a vacation we rented one of the New 2019 5th generation Big Horn Rams, which was also a damn fine truck. Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I'd bought the newer style. The Classic feels way bulkier while driving, even though they are relatively the same size. It probably has more to do with the differences in the front end and hood shape, as well as the cabin/dash/center console design. I've had a Chrysler 300 for about 12 years and still love it, and the newer Ram design felt very much (to me) more like driving a large sedan than a truck. Some might say "if you wanted a big sedan, why did you buy a truck and not a new sedan?" and that really comes down to why I think a lot of people do it. You can only fit so much in the trunk of a car, so buy a truck, or keep renting/borrowing one. Either way, they are both great vehicles. But if you are new to driving full size trucks, and find a big car more comfortable, I'd go with the new design.
Just looked at a classic with 42k miles at CarMax and they are asking for 28k… not bad I like this one over the new one because of that extra third seat in the front
But nothing like a Ram. It's a complete failure. Bland and uninteresting. Ram destroyed the most recognizable and iconic trait of a Ram truck. It looks like a bubbly Chevy.
They should focus on fixing all the crank bearing failures first. Even today crank bearings are getting destroyed and FCA's only response is to run Rotella T6, which ends clogging the emissions system and destroying the engine anyways. And while they're at it, fix that cheap ass cam sprocket design. www.ram1500diesel.com/forum/ram-1500-diesel-mechanical/8564-eco-diesel-engine-failures.html
I was looking for the 4th Gen Classic Sport Trim but ended up with a 2019 Ram BigHorn..... the price was so much better with the Warranty on the 5th gen with 0 miles on it than buying a used Classic at 75k miles with no warranty & close to just about what I paid for my new 2019 5th gen BigHorn trim Hemi. So far I love it rides smooth & just got AirLift Bags for it, wish mine would of brought the LED headlight tho instead of the regular halogens.
God, just imagine a transmission with that many gears. You'd be in 7th or 8th gear by the time you reach 20 mph. My mom's 8 speed Charger is already in 4th by then. 😂
5th gen looks sweet blacked out! Here in town (vegas) every morning on my way to work at almost the same street intersection i see the same 3-4 rams and at least 2 new jeeps driving by together. Im not sure who or what they do but they have a fully blacked out 5th gen ram and it looks badass! I'd buy one if i could
The difference between 8 and 10 speeds is miniscule. Tommy needs to sit down and compare final drive ratios. He'd realize that 10 speeds is borderline too many, which is why Ford's 10 speed skips gears while shifting and why even ZF hasn't shown interest in developing transmissions with 10+ speeds. Not necessary, minimal benefit.
I figured it out. The new Ram looks like a Honda Ridgeline. Some trucks grow on you with the time. I am liking the new Ram less and less every time I see it. Be sure to grab some groceries on your way home from soccer practice.
I must admit that I am partial to the fourth gen Ram Body style. I were to go out and buy a diesel truck tomorrow, it would be a Ram. If I went gas I would probably go with the Ford V6 Eco boost.
Jose' A Ecoboost is garbage in the long run. I would rather have the 3.6L pentastar in the ram then the F150. If you have to have the F150, the 5.0L is the way to go.
benjaminwayneb but they're not down 15% in June sales. Sure 1st quarter sales were down due to anticipation of the new trucks and production issues with them. I'm sure we'll see increases throughout the year across all three major truck manufacturers.

Tim Fox I mean of course their gonna refit their factory to fit the old body on the new frame, that way theyll save so much production cost and hassle that way.
Seeing how the majority of manufacturers went with JIT ( just in time ) production to eliminate warehouses decades ago. Curious if they are going through old stock or retrofitting bodies to work on newer frames. Demand is greater than the supply for the newest version, they need to bring something to the table other than a decal
Totaled out a 2010 Ram when hit sitting still by 70 mph driver in large mercury head-on. The front tire broke off and the collision energy was routed away from cab completely as designed. No one was hurt but another driver died. Very impressed with the strength of this truck. Yes, tire and drivers door was knocked off but the tire pushed away from vehicle onto hwy.

I just got the 19 Ram Classic, and I'm loving it so far. I'm not a hardcore truck guy, but it's great. I recommend getting the black appearance package for sure!
I like the crosshair grill myself. And i hate the eco boost. Years from now i will either rebuild my 2018 5.7 hemi express's engine or buy a used ram before i buy the 5th gen.
I'm glad they are keeping the old body as liking the new body of 2019 the 2018 looks like want age although 10 years old that is what Chevy did with the Silverado back in '07 guess if someone that wants something affordable don't want to pay extra for the new body get the 1500 Classic third gen like the new generation glad Chrysler-Fiat keeping the old body of 2009-2018 as 2019 Ram 1500 Classic for one more year.

I love my 2018 sport night edition. Only question I have is?. Does the passenger have more foot room in the 5th gen or is it the same. Only thing i hate about my truck is no telescoping steering wheel
I'm changing out my 2016 3500 next year, and I'm looking forward to getting into this design - both out and in. Yes, the crosshairs are a classic thing, but it is also so incredibly dated. And honestly, it will not be long before some kind of aftermarket manufacture makes up something those whom would want the crosshairs can install.

Not that the 5th gen is bad or anything. But 4th gen for life! and that MDS system is amazing for MPGs! Averaged over 27 on a mixed trip while nearly empty and 25mpg while full. For a 4x4 1/2 ton with 400hp Im more than happy! Lets just say Ill keep my 2016 and remain happy as a pig in mud lol.
I got 28.5 mpg on my 1200 mile Toronto to Nova Scotia trip. I was vary impressed. Cruse control was set for 65 mph.
Witch year??!
Great job guys is always I prefer either 4th generation truck myself interior wise to 5th generation wins LOL
I just bought a 2019 1500 classic tradesman eco diesel 4 x 4 at an amazing price! No regrets!
7:54 what I love is that hockey puck gear selector!!!
They should have kept the crosshairs grille, but I like the new RAM overall, just replace the ugly RAM grille insert.
I’m sure someone will make one and they’ll sell dozens of them :)
everytime he says wants a engine like a ecoboost in a ram, i wana shoot a limb off
I bought my 2019 Ram classic back in April of 2020 and I love this truck! My Ram classic reminds me of the old school muscle cars, just really simple and a hemi v8 screaming through dual exhaust when you put you foot into it.
Hey did they make a 2020 ram classic 3500 or 2500 or 1500 single cab short bed classic diesel
@@AlejandroP1980s to my knowledge the classic only comes in a 1500. Now you can get the diesel in the 1500 classic, but I think its the 3.0 diesel. You can get them in a short bed to.
Bought mine in June but an eco diesel, love it!
@@DMalltheway Did you buy the 4x4? Mine is a 4x4 with limited slip rear end. I was debating about buying tires for the winter drive or if the goodyears already on the Ram would be good enough. What do you think?
I love the new old one better. It’s cheaper, more reliable, simplistic and so much more usable and practical.
Purchased a 1500 5.7 one year ago. My first Ram, it definitely will not be my last.
Joseph Love hey any issues because I heard people complain about electrical issues
Jr is complaining about lack of new power train technology right after talking about 48 volt mild hybrid.....
Jason Larsen I think he wants 20 engine/trans options like GM is building.🙃🙃🙃
He more than likely meant a 4 or 6 cylinder with a turbocharger with nearly the same output as the v8. Ford and GM are doing that, so why can't Chrysler?
DaniTheNachoPirate maybe if FCA had had the production volume of ford then I could see some major new engine tech. The mild hybrid is something no truck manufacturer is doing currently and sounds like a nice set up.
T Hawk oh the new GM with the 3rd place tow ratings for 2019? At least you can still get that vortec v6 from the 90’s!
Jason Larsen I'm thinking once their new turbo 4 has a couple years on it the old V6 will go away.
I love my 2017 tradesman. I love the look of the truck and simplicity of the interior. Its a keeper.
I just bought the 2019 Ram Warlock (w/Hemi) crew cab and it is amazing. It’s the classic model but the interior is that of the new generation. So I get best of both worlds. I love it!
Mine is the same to
Ford did the same thing in 2004 with the F150
I have the new body style 2004 but they still built the 2003 style in 2004 with a badging on the fender classic.
Bob Allen ZF had done studies years ago to determine the optimum number of ratios. Ford and GM just wanted something to brag about.
lee hancock I agree.
East Coast Resident my 2.7 f150 Ecoboost will all your Fiat shits
I don't understand why ram NEEDS to offer all new powertrains? the v8 they offer is tried and true and quite frankly probably the most reliable considering how long they've been around.
castlem0re Tell that to my uncle that needed a new engine at 12k miles lmao
Aww man
Unfortunately they are not very reliable both Ford and GM make superior motor s by far.
false. complete fabrication. The GM 5.3 has very well known valvetrain problems. The ford ecoboost... well come on we all know the problems that motor has had. Go sell crazy somewhere else.
Lifters seize and valves drop in hemi motors. They are very unreliable
The 2019 looks just like every other truck. The 2018 with bulging bi-level hood and crosshair grill was like no other on the road.
Looking to order a 22 classic tradesman crew cab 4x4 hemi and off road package (comes from the factory lifted) with tow hooks and at tires
Finally! Looks nice, congrats man!
I still much prefer the Gen 4 styling
You can get a lot more features in the classic now then you could 2 years ago. I got a 21 full load warlock. I prefer the classic over the new design.
I like the new one, it just looks exceptionally modern
But nothing like a Ram. It's a complete failure. Bland and uninteresting. Ram destroyed the most recognizable and iconic trait of a Ram truck. It looks like a bubbly Chevy.
It’s not a complete failure. Have you seen the sales numbers?!?!
In my opinion, the updated EcoDiesel should produce at least 500 lb/ft of torque.
They should focus on fixing all the crank bearing failures first. Even today crank bearings are getting destroyed and FCA's only response is to run Rotella T6, which ends clogging the emissions system and destroying the engine anyways. And while they're at it, fix that cheap ass cam sprocket design.

I just bought the 1500 classic couple weeks ago and I love it, the only thing could say that I’m not happy. is with the lack of compartments
8,9, 10 speed transmissions, hell why not a 16 or a 20 speed transmission...
Big rigs already have that.
They would scrap the ground under a pickup. lol
8-10 gears is the sweet spot.
I'd buy one if i could
Love my 2018 big horn crew but think I'm going for the 2021 crew night edition. I prefer the new style but the older is cool too.
Tommy is such a kid!! It doesnt have 10 speeds... boo hoo. Nathan, if its not broke dont fix it,kid!
@@hochhaul
These new 8 and 10 speed automatic transmissions purposely skip gears to help put the engine in the right rpm range.
I gurantee that Dodge goes back to it...
The new truck is very nice, but not aggressive enough.
Just picked up my Classic for $28K OTD.....after driving my Dakota for 15 years. I'm very happy with it. Don't care for the new body style.
Honestly I’m kinda happy they did this I love both of anyone here is into the 2018 Silverado let’s hope maybe Chevy will do this with that truck
I figured it out. The new Ram looks like a Honda Ridgeline.
Some trucks grow on you with the time. I am liking the new Ram less and less every time I see it. Be sure to grab some groceries on your way home from soccer practice.
I would totally get a classic
I must admit that I am partial to the fourth gen Ram Body style. I were to go out and buy a diesel truck tomorrow, it would be a Ram. If I went gas I would probably go with the Ford V6 Eco boost.
Jose' A Ecoboost is garbage in the long run. I would rather have the 3.6L pentastar in the ram then the F150. If you have to have the F150, the 5.0L is the way to go.
East Coast Resident thank you for the info
The most reliable are either the 5.7 Toyota Tundra or the 5.3 Silverado. Both solid. Ecoboost is garbage and Chrysler is meh
I don't know if it was just me but the classic one sounds better when they were revved up
Because.....
We all want and need the good ol 5.7 hemi..
That's why... Turbo in a truck? Not for us! Weak!!. Thx, great video
Ram sales were down 8% January through May and down 15% in June.
That's kinda suprising, saying they have great deals on the trucks, kinda like what they r doing to the Grand caravan
Wrong.

benjaminwayneb but they're not down 15% in June sales. Sure 1st quarter sales were down due to anticipation of the new trucks and production issues with them.
I'm sure we'll see increases throughout the year across all three major truck manufacturers.
TH-cam User Don't mind him. He's just another Google Hero. No REAL knowledge or wit. Just very practiced at quickly looking shit up. Which, they probably think equals being really smart anyway, ironically... Unfortunately, for them, because of this, they usually don't even have the whole story. They're a dime a dozen and would like to think that they fool everyone on TH-cam, but they really just look foolish to anyone with a moderate amount of intellect. ...Poor fella'... Probably just needs a friend...
Does it have the newer frame, the cross beams that help deflect the front wheel from kicking back into the cab during an accident?
Good video
Tim Fox I mean of course their gonna refit their factory to fit the old body on the new frame, that way theyll save so much production cost and hassle that way.
negative the new frame is produced in a different factory.
The Frame is All new with extensive attention payed to improve offset collisions including a wheel block.
Do you see "thumb up" at 6:05 on 2019's rigth mirror?
when they stop making the 4th gen they need to offer a crosshair grille option for the 5th gen its not really that hard to develop a grille now is it?
No. And it's not that hard to understand why sometimes things has to change. But I'm sure some aftermarket manufacture will make one.
im getting a '19 classic quad cab 5.7L 4x4 in sept. will be a big improvement over my '04 Hemi Durango limited.
I lied. have had mine for a few weeks now and love it. still looks stock but has a K&N filter in the airbox, EDGE PULSAR tuner and a flowmaster super 10 series with duals.
I just got the 19 Ram Classic, and I'm loving it so far. I'm not a hardcore truck guy, but it's great. I recommend getting the black appearance package for sure!
theYaminasty yup i got the 19 ram Classic night edition and its perfect
You nailed it!
Guys, thanks again for another well done video. I must say you all are getting pretty good at this. Please don't out source your talents. Nice to see local talent progress. CO;)
Ford Guy, but the 4th generation was to me the best looking modern truck on the road. They just looked meaner! Back in 2017 I ranked the trucks on looks, #1 RAM # 2 F150 #3 Sierra #4 Silverado #5 Tundra, now #1 Sierra #2 Tundra #3 F150/Silverado #4 RAM,, have no idea why the Tundra moved up, but I’d take one in That awesome new blue, not sure what it’s called.
I love my 2018 sport night edition. Only question I have is?. Does the passenger have more foot room in the 5th gen or is it the same. Only thing i hate about my truck is no telescoping steering wheel
guys you should put more behind the scenes lol...i love it ...
I'd like to see a head to head on both comparably equipped models to see just how much difference the weight loss, software and aerodynamics make.
i prefer the old grill some times i dont think the outside looks good i know the inside does its just the grill and head lights i dont like
I'm changing out my 2016 3500 next year, and I'm looking forward to getting into this design - both out and in. Yes, the crosshairs are a classic thing, but it is also so incredibly dated. And honestly, it will not be long before some kind of aftermarket manufacture makes up something those whom would want the crosshairs can install.
I Love my 2019 Dodge Ram SLT Classic
I have a 2019 classic. Great truck.
I would prefer a classic with the hemi of course. The new look 2020 is growing on me though. The power wagon 2500 is my dream truck right now though haha
