      True the faster attacks are more hard get me but I just use the (instantly get gud) grindstone that allows you to perfect guard everything.
      FYI the venigni collection boxes is what give you it.

    Thank you. Clear and concise.
    I'm in NG++ here and after watching this I realized I was blocking wrong the whole time 😄 I was blocking with Sekiro mindset, and I succeeded in perfect blocking like 60-70% of the time and when I failed I didn't just block, I got hit, which made the process of learning the boss patterns way more difficult and longer.
    I even suspected that I should be holding instead of tapping along the way, but since I'm not the fastest player on earth, I attributed my mistakes to being slow.
    But understandably, this is more of a technique (albeit it a 'key' technique) so I can't expect the game to give me a tutorial on that.
    One tiny side note; the hold-the-block strat in LoP seems a bit unintuitive compared to Sekiro. In Sekiro when hold the block button you regenerate posture faster (defensive stamina equivalent) so you are incentivized to hold down the button when you can. In Lies of P however, in traditional Souls fashion, holding down the block will reduce stamina regeneration.

    I see ,now it makes sense. in Sekiro it kinda enters the window as you tap, but it this game it enters window once the character is in specific animation that some weapon can be in window slower than the other becuase wide up animation. they should atleast hint the players to understand this though.

    Based on extensive testing on the latest major patch (1.3+), this video is either very outdated or simply misinformation. It's an objectively false statement that your perfect block frames end if you release the button. Perfect guard frames continue for their normal duration even if you tap and release instantly. However, it is safer to keep holding because if you blocked early, you will still guard the hit, whereas if you tapped you would just get hit. By the way, when blocking strings of attacks, the game actually keeps you in a block animation even without holding the button anymore, as long as you don't interrupt it with another action (such as walking)
    As for different guard animations... They do differ, but not in the way you think. Perfect guard frames start the exact moment Pino starts to raise the weapon. Not when it reaches the block pose. So the speed of the block animation is completely irrelevant! The animation starts roughly 2 frames (60fps) after your input.
    Assuming you didn't just whiff a perfect guard right before, then you get exactly 9 frames (60fps) during which any hit that connects results in a perfect guard. If your weapon's guard animation points up and right, you get 1 extra frame at the end, for a total of 10 frames. This honestly may be a bug, but it could be some obtuse game design.
    The advice that you should "predict more" with heavy weapons (which I can only interpret as a suggestion to block slightly earlier) is therefore extremely misguided, as the timing is virtually the same, except it punishes early blocks slightly more.

    • @Mordarim
      @Mordarim  ปีที่แล้ว

      They have to have patched it. I timed the frames in the video editing program to be 100% sure when the game released.

    • @BigDBrian
      @BigDBrian ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mordarim Part of it was wrong even at the time, based on footage from (everyone's favourite) Ongbal 3 months ago where he perfect guards some moves only a frame or two into the blocking animation, even with a "slower" block type. Can't confirm tap vs hold though unless I find better footage or a downpatch.
      edit: got my hands on release version of game. tap & release worked perfectly fine. Even after P starts to return his weapon, if a hit connects he will guard it.

    • @BigDBrian
      @BigDBrian ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mordarim Ok so even more weird findings. I think the game is just inconsistent.
      Sometimes, even when you tap and release, you still get a blocked hit if it was slightly after the perfect guard window. This indicates the game thinks you're guarding regardless of the animation.
      But other times, when tapping and releasing, you get hit on what should be a perfect guard. But only sometimes, as I now have examples both of perfect guarding a frame 8, and whiffing a frame 8. Same for frame 9. It makes no sense.
      So, to go back on my words, holding appears more consistent after all. A single counter-example should've been enough, but the game is inconsistent so it was not. Note that these findings were only for exceptionally short taps (2-3 frames) that you have to intentionally go for. For more natural medium length taps it appeared to work fine, so it's not really a worry.

    the point is that this system is just broken, whenever I try to perfect block any chain attack - my character's just getting stuck in block forever. like yea, I'm perfectly blocking the 1st attack, but then I'm just getting punished for trying my best. what a bullshit...

    • @BigDBrian
      @BigDBrian ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After blocking an attack the game keeps you in the pose so you don't take full hits if you time your press late. However, perfect block frames function as normal, if you press 2-10 frames (60fps) before a hit, it will count. However, if you press guard but no hit connects, the time window diminishes severely, so if you spam or press the buttons in a panic you will get 0 perfect blocks.
      By the way, if you don't want the game to keep you blocking, just walk. It instantly cancels the blocking animation. You will notice that you will get hit during combos instead, because you're not timing correctly.

    Ive seen newbies easily getting into the block system, landing some of them first time they meet bosses. If sekiro players come here and thinks its sekiro parry, they are going to have a hard time. Different games have different mechanics, even if they are both souls like.

    • @xQc_Enjoyer777

    • @jeremycu4571
      @jeremycu4571 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xQc_Enjoyer777 not a risky move. Its just as "risky" as trying to dodge and somthing. Its a mechanic that both light and heavy builds should use. Or its pushed by the game, esp since some boss dex weapons like 2 dragonsword and the umbrella have blocks fitted into their charge attacks. For "block" build, they should always try perfect guard, and settle for regular if they fail. For "dodge" build, there are moves that are better exploited by block and counter, so they should perfect guard for those. Or if they are cornered and being combo'd or fury attack and cant move far enough... Its just a matter of learning the enemy over multiple tries. As for stiffness P organ, im using it, and it makes enemies flinch or stop after some strikes. This is not including the weapon break. Bosses and big enemies take more attacks, but it does happen and help. I think if people stop tapping the block button, and try to time slightly longer presses, they wont find perfect guarding so difficult. I always fail parry in dark souls and elden ring, I was landing it repeatedly, first tries for this game. I find the window much more generous than other souls game. Well, I was reading a lot about it before i tried, and I was on team no tap immediately before I began the game.

    Brilliant video man, literally the only useful one on this topic on TH-cam atm. This game has a ridiculous system honestly, and whoever thought to make almost every weapon AND enemy attack have different parry timings is fucking ridiculous. It's like mixing DS1 and DS2 parry logic (completely different) and then adding Elden Ring randomness to it just cause. It's NOT good game design and it's frankly quite frustrating, esp combined with the almost useless dodge if you don't go for under 30% equip load. This video really helped me realize what I was missing (better parrying weapons lol) and helped me get frustrated less. I swear, I've finished every Soulslike I can think of and this one isn't the hardest one or anything but I'll be damned if it isn't the most frustrating experience because of this stupid internal logic. It's not a "git gud' at this point, it's just stop being tryhards, devs.

    As an update to my previous comment, I found a method to down patch the game and tested the original release day version. Tap blocking worked just as well as holding for the purpose of perfect guards. The timing window was also the same as current patch, 9 frames (60fps) of perfect guard, starting from the moment P beings to raise his weapon to block. The type of block pose from a handle did not matter.
    Frame 10 perfect guards did happen in some instances but rarely. Unlike my previous conclusion, this also seemed to not care about the block pose.
    Details aside, the point is, this video has been misinforming players since the start of the game. Obviously, it was not intentionally done so, just a lack of rigorous testing. Holding block is still a good practice, so little harm is done. However, aiming to guard earlier or picking a different weapon for different perfect guard timing is misguided.

    • @Mordarim
      @Mordarim  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was damn sure there where variations of -+2 frames depending on the weapon because of the animation to get the weapon into parry position. The other thing i looked at is the amount of time used to hold your parry/block. Releasing the block for the same eneny and attack(target dummy red attack) resulted in less parry frames when i tested it with the release version. Those are never blocked and only parried, so it was an easy way to consistently test this. Would it be possible to test this again and report back? Misstime the parry but hold block for longer. This should result in a red parry despite not being perfect on farme which lead me to believe the parry frames varry with the length of the animation.

    • @BigDBrian
      @BigDBrian ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Mordarim Just to make absolutely sure, I have now made clips where I tap block for only 2 frames. For reference, that is the same as the input delay, so I had released block at the same time that P started the guard animation.
      And I got perfect blocks as late as frame 8. Multiple times.
      As for holding, frame 11+ would always fail, frame 10 sometimes worked, frame 9 or below always worked. Exact same as tapping. There is no difference.
      I'm not sure what you mean about the red attacks, they work identically in terms of perfect guard timing. If you fail the timing you get hit, regardless if you held or not. The same 9-10 frame window. I'd done my down patched timing testing with held buttons initially, so there's no need to redo that as I've already covered the situation you described.

    This cycle has been repeated over and over. Thanks to the cheap high speed internet that allow me to do this childish thing (Download > 10+ attempts > Fail > Frustrated > Delete > Watch YT > get a glimpse of hope > Download >...... ). :P

    You're not entirely right. The reason the parry is tougher in this game is because it has less active frames than in sekiro. Tapping actually works better in this game than in sekiro IMO.

    Doesn't matter when your display has 56ms + input lag. All I am doing is guessing when to press the parry button. It isnso inconsistent. So tired of not being able to enjoy these games because I am forced to by new equipment when my display is fine except it is $hit for games like this.

    Sekiro punish you if you spamming block, it make parry window lower.
    Dont lie to people

      ??? You tap to parry in sekiro and do not want to hold the parry button for extended periods of time. The amount of frames you get in sekiro while pressing the button for 1 or 0.1 sec is the same, but in lies of p there is a massive difference as explained in the video and evidenced by thousands of people agreeing

    • @Mamotraxer21

      @@Mordarim in sekiro parry window is quite big if you dont spam block, holding button works for it too. Spamming in sekiro works great only when boss make serias of fast strikes, like genichiro and lady butterfly.
      I complete sekiro 5 times, i know what im talking about

      That was not the point of the video and also not something they ever said either.
      By the way, Lies of P's perfect blocking shares that mechanic, but it's harsher in my experience.

    I cannot master this perfect block mechanic, I don't think it helps that I'm playing the game on a basic PS4.
    In all likelihood, I'm going to trade this game in or give it away just to be rid of it.

    Learning that different weapons have different parry timings solidifies my opinion the parry system in this game is fucked. Tbh I found it easier for plenty of bosses to just ignore it and dodge instead

    • @flabbajabba9527
      @flabbajabba9527 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don't really have different parry timings, every weapon has the number of parry frames. The parry system is fine but super tight. You just aren't very good at the game. Dodging works too but parrying is more rewarding and more efficient once you learn it.

    • @Jwoosle
      @Jwoosle ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flabbajabba9527 I mean I managed to get through the game without too much difficulty so I wouldn’t call it not being good at the game and more just not being good at a specific mechanic so rather than trying to force what wasn’t working for me, I just decided to play in a way I found more effective
      Yeah parrying might be more efficient once you master it but if mastering it and really getting the timing takes longer than just dodging and occasionally throwing in blocks and parries then I can’t *really* call it more efficient.

    • @BigDBrian
      @BigDBrian ปีที่แล้ว

      The mechanics work fine in-game, it is misunderstood by the author of the video. The timing for when your perfect guard frames start after you press the button is the exact same. That's because it happens at the start of the animation, not the end, the speed is irrelevant.
      I do agree with your second comment though, that a heavier focus on dodging and blocking is much easier to get through the game with. However, I find it fun to go back through the game and learn to perfect block as I master the enemy's moveset. Sometimes, a heavier focus on dodging is just better though (such as on King of Puppets, in both phases, and basically all stalker fights)

      Use the Aegis, or just upgrade your rolls, including the green monster talisman. This game gives you a lot of options.
