Love it! I just wish that Notability had a feature where you could click a reminder button and it would enter it into the calendar. That would be nice.
Looks good. I used Notability for years in nursing school, then switched to GoodNotes. There is something nice about the simplicity of organization in Notability that just works well....bummer they just switched to a subscription model.
If you have paid for Notability in the past, all the features that you paid for still work the same. I haven’t noticed any significant difference. In fact, recent changes have made note organization and stickers even better. I have heard good things about GoodNotes, but I love Notability enough to stick with it.
Hello! I am really wanting to begin taking notes this way. I am wondering how you ensure HIPAA compliance with this method. Is the app itself HIPAA compliant or encrypted? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but know nothing about this kind of stuff
No, unfortunately the app is not HIPAA compliant. The way I work around this is by never using any personal identifying data. I always use initials, no phone numbers or other things that could identify the client. I also turn off any cloud support/back-up so that it is stored only on my iPad which is password protected. I also delete files with frequency, leaving only the most current notes. Hope that helps!
I use Todoist as my task management system. Here's a link to my playlist on this: th-cam.com/play/PL-7Z8pkzpJtODdaMqrmvLC8qSqZXHP8ca.html. Thanks for the comment!
My daughter is making this same decision right now! I am willing to spend money on my iPad since it’s the piece of technology that I use the most, but I think there are 3 price levels for iPads right now. I would think about how often you will use it, for which functions, how important some of the features might be to you (storage and speed) and then choose accordingly. I generally default to the mid-level if I get stuck! Good luck.
HIPAA applies to protected health information (PHI) such as names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, insurance ID numbers, health care records, and full facial photos. Initials are not PHI. I don’t included any identifying pieces of information (PHI) in my Notability notes, so there is no need for HIPAA compliance. In other words, there is no way, from my notes, to identify the client. Hope that helps!
Laura, I am trying to help our agency develop a policy on using personal devices for paperless notetaking. Any chance you would be willing to share a copy of your agency's policy?
I'll see if I can track down the policy, but a couple of items to note: I don't use any identifying info in my notes (all initials and client numbers), don't save notes to the cloud, and have a passcode lock on my device. Hope that helps!
"tend to be pretty methodical" ...the understatement of the year. This is great!!

Great information, as always. Thank you! What task manager/system do you use to manage the follow up tasks?

I’m considering going paperless. Any recommendations on which iPad?

Notability is not HIPAA compliant, so using initials and identifying info from sessions are not protected. Have you found a way around this?
