For me, OneNote has been my best friend for taking notes in class. It just feels like having a super organized folder/notebook of all my notes, divided by different classes and by semester!!! I also write in Comic Sans or Calibri.
Hi there. your videos have been helpful for me to start using tags better in Evernote. To share how I go paperless I have got a few steps. 1. Evernote for all quick thoughts, ideas and info I need to store in my second brain:) 2. Rather notability I use Noteshelf or Penultimate for hand written notes. The adv of Noteshelf or Penultimate is they sync live. 3. With these two steps everything for work, fun, study and family is being captured into my Evernote account. This is a break through for me (before I used to have stuff in different apps in different places) but now everything is complete in Evernote. 4. From your tips I have simplified the folders to bigger groups and then used tags and saved searches. Using advanced searches I am able to link notes and ideas based on keywords (even from my handwriting and typed notes). My learnings - the repository functionality is more important than the apps I used to create notes and data. I used to pay and obsess about the apps I used to create notes. Now my focus is on how I store, tag and can link ideas together in evernote. I just need evernote to come up with AI tagging so it links topics with common ideas all by itsel. When this day comes my evernote brain will be telling me what to do:) is that a good thing?
Excellent. You say you export from Notability into Evernote by using the Image format, why not export as a PDF. Works well and, certainly allows you to use the tremendous Evernote search facility to find things later.
Hi, Ian. I do attach PDFs some of the time - it just depends on what the document is. I like the ready access to images (they come right up without having to click twice), but your point about search is a good one!
Great tips. Have you looked at OneNote from Microsoft? It has all the same functions and its in one app instead of three. Also, Office 365 is free, comes with word, excel, power point and Onenote and Onedrive cloud storage. There is an app called Office Lens that is free too, and it scans as well as a bed scanner using your mobile device's optics and then sends the scanned document into whatever format you wish (including Onenote). I probably sound like I work Microsoft at this point, but all of the tools are right there in one free service from them and they are full versions of those tried and true office suite programs. Any rate, obviously use what works best for you. Just thought I make you aware in case you didn't know. Take Care :)
Hi, Nate. Thanks for the info. I use OneNote for work and think the Windows application is very robust. My problem is that outside of work, I primarily use my iPad. At the time I was evaluating, the OneNote iPad app was a very stripped down version of their Windows software. I could probably go back and take another look at it -- I'm sure it's much better now!
It also sucks on Android. It took several hours for me to be able to use it, because of account issues. After finely being able to, it was a let down. Every thing except for 1 feature that made it special isn't available. The one thing that it has available is pdf annotation for free. And, the features it does have is available in other apps. I'd rather go with something else.
I’m not 100% sure what you mean (maybe you can clarify after reading my response), but Abode Scan recognizes text, but doesn’t allow you to edit it at all. You can pull the PDF into GoodReader for more editing capabilities if that is what you are looking for. I have a tutorial coming out soon on that app!
I use Google Keep for some things, but I don't love the lack of organized storage structure with Google Keep. I still use it for quick notes and for text recognition!

Notability has folders, tags, etc. to organize notes. I have hundreds of separate notes in various projects and folders. It has excellent searching of handwriting so I find it very easy to locate notes on any subject.

OneNote has no iPad handwriting features so it’s not really a good iPad app.
