Humans corrupted the otter in the first place..... and now she (otter) is paying the favour back.... go team otter.

coward: society requires selfless courage; segregation is poltroonery.
      soooo?
We, human creatures, continue to conduct and/or tacitly attend (unintended and intentional) experiments of “existing in society (3 or more creatures together)”
we leave room for others, including otters; as long as such others, including otters, refrain from anti-social VIOLENCE.
any violent creature is dealt with violently…to uphold our commitment that (their) violence is intolerable…& we gotta act violent to stop all violence….??? HEY, wait a minute here….
caveat: plz refrain from use of the “s” word…social

      @@larrypahl5756 larrypahl5756, Coward? How so?
The Sea is the Home of the Otters. It is their territory. Humans can go else where for their leisurely pursuits. Humans have bullied & colonized territories that have been inhabited for centuries by other creatures.
So if it makes you a "Tough Guy" to bully an Otter, then you must be a "Punk Human".

Because some idiot will take advantage of her lack of fear of humans to get close and take photos for their social media account, get bitten, and then the otter will have to be euthanized to appease the public.

She didn't look like she wanted anything but his surfboard. She wanted to relax. She definitely was not approaching the guy to make friends. She tried to fight for her new toy. We need to let nature take its course with animals. There is a reason dinosaurs aren't here anymore.

Why can't the US fish and wildlife just leave her alone? She's not hurting anybody. She is just having fun. 841 is apparently smarter than those trying to catch her. Move the humans if they're afraid of someone getting bit.

I realize Otter 841 would be a nice attraction (as is mentioned in the video) that would bring business to wherever she lands but the otter population needs to grow. If they hadn't removed her mother from the wild they wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. Otter 841 needs to remain in the wild to procreate. Leave Otter 841 alone.

This is an incredible story. Thank you for sharing this info on the situation.
After listening to you, I've definitely gone from the "free 841" team to the "OK, maybe we should help this Otter out" team.

    • @DJSockmonkeyMusic

The help out team caused this in the first place. They taught her that humans aren't a threat, then released her. She doesn't have any positive association, sure, but she also doesn't have any negative associations with humans. And she wants a go on the surfboard.
They shouldn't have released her in the first place. This "non association" method of rehabing animals for release is a load of bunk and it needs to stop.

  • @robertkennith7866

you tried to imprint a negative reaction, you got one, otters are curious animals, if you punish them for being curious, you end up with 841, an otter who now hates humans
