Some have said that their bite is almost as powerful as a black bear's. Otters may look cute from a distance, but up close they're feisty and aggressive creatures. They're almost like seagoing badgers.
Between Orcas, Whales, Sharks, Turtles and now Otters, sealife is fighting back against intrusion into their spaces! We "mess up" their feeding abilities, disturb their prey and schools of fish, and cause injuries and deaths from propeller strikes. It's payback time...

You omitted the fact that 841 was merely born in captivity, only spent the bare minimum around humans, and was born in captivity in the first place because her mom was captured for being aggressive as well. It’s not like veterinarians and marine biologists played with 841. This is my town, by the way. (Santa Cruz)

Good to hear that returning otters (i've seen them down to SLO county, and their presence in kelp beds south of Point Concepion to San Diego and Baja California Norte is to be greatly desired.

This boy just needs to rest a bit more. Perhaps there is a dearth of seaweed mats this year. I say we start up a campaign to collect contributions so we can buy him his own surfboard. We can even get a custom one made up with chewy, replaceable edges, and a pad with soft side bolsters so poochie doesn't roll off. Since all he wants to do is chill on it. P.S.: Like some other animals we live with, otters like to bite. They love it, just like a cat or dog. But watch! They are cutest when they are biting!
I follow a couple of East Asian channels that raise Otters in captivity. I believe those raised in captivity, then released into the wild, aren't unsimilar to Urban/rural/suburban wildlife such as squirrels, raccoons, bears, deer, fox, even wild turkeys that will not hesitate coming into man-made spaces where we have historically encrouched on their epic generational habitations. These animals are out here living their best '1984' Orson Welles life. 😂😂😂
