Last thing we need is Rogan to start talking on his podcast about land cruisers and making it trendy and more expensive to get one.

In 1996 I drove a 1995 Wrangler from Florida to Van Nuys to attend my Uncle's wedding. While driving through town I saw your shop and swung in to see what was cooking. You gave a me a complete shop tour and some swag and sent me on my way. I've been a fan of your work since and just wanted to say thanks again for the tour and keep up the good work. Your Rogan interview a fews years ago was awesome btw.

People may think it's strange to restore such a car. But the 90's was the pinnacle of Auto manufacturing with a perfect balance of reliability, ease of maintenance and simplicity complimented with technology.

For some vehicles. Others the early 2000s were the pinnacle. Subaru definitely peaked around 2005. Toyota for some models peaked around 2004 for tacomas and others. For the landcruiser it may have peaked much earlier (1980s???). You couldn't even get a manual trans in the 80 series; at least in america.

If it is for an apocalypse he should have gotten a 1 wire run diesel engine for it. Something that will run on anything from veggie oil to used motor oil or kerosene or diesel or gas.
Something like an old 12HT or a 13bt or a 12 valve cummings. In an apocalyptic situation u want 3rd world reliability, fuel economy and a vehicle that will still run after an EMP. That LS will be a boat anchor without infrastructure.

Awesome job. But based on my experience I’d recommend the following changes.
    1. Get custom depo glass headlights with HID fixtures instead of those janky looking aftermarket plastic ones
2 Replace steering wheel with early 2000s model from tundra or 4Runner that add stereo controls at fingertips. Using touchscreen in the factory location sucks
3 replace rear view mirror with gentex model that has outdoor temp, compass, and homelink buttons
4 get the early model mud flaps and trim them down to cap off the wheel flares and blend with the new sliders
5 replace that roof rack with a Prinsu. Much cleaner lines and more functional.
All of these mods have been done and documented on Ih8mud dot com so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Sorry, but all this Rambo stuff is laughable.
I have had a 97 fzj80 for many years. It is a 3rd world version which means part time 4wd,open diffs, steel wheels and horrors of horrors a carburetor.
Why? Because I am in Africa - a place where if you break down you may die. I sometimes go to places where you don't see another human for days.
If you are honestly going on an adventure, the most important thing is toughness and reliability.
So what have I done to prepare for adventure?
Not much - a bull bar, a Warn winch and a lunchbox locker in the front is all.
I have never felt a need for more power, despite usually dragging a heavy trailer, nor have I ever had to be rescued.
Joe's LC may be a nice toy, but it is for posers, not for going to the middle of nowhere.

Shockingly cool restoration.. I am left wondering: how much does an overhaul like this cost????

@Jonathan Ward, do you do your own window tinting? Thank you for going into so much detail. I really enjoy seeing and hearing about all the details that you put into your masterpieces. It shows off your passion for these works of art you are building.

looks like a top quality build except for the wire routing under the roof rack should be around the outside rail so you cant see it from above or whatever
