    How did I not know about these before? I ran into some people campin out in the bush the other day when I was out for a leisure ride back on crown land where I like to go out at Moose Lake. they had one of these with their side x side. I was just floored.. like this is level elite. here Ive been hauling tents and taking up cargo space my whole life like a chum bucket! So, here I am, checkin it out and examining the options.. lol
    I love the whole concept, and reading other peoples reviews/comments leads me to belive Im onto to something. This is one of those best kept secrets. like.. "If you know, then.. you know..."

    This is a great invention! We will be getting our 23zero 62" Walkabout within the next two weeks! I have a diamondback HD bed cover on our Tundra, and Front Runner load bar system on it's way as well to mount on the diamondback. Covid has had us waiting for months for everything :(. I love your Hitch Tent idea for several reasons in addition to what you mention in your video. This includes Hitch Tent also allows sharing our tent with family members (three adult son's) and close friends without them even having to get a rack system! Another possibility with the Hitch Tent is using the RTT at home in the yard. I can transport the whole setup with a hand dolly (where our truck won't reach) and set up wherever Is desired.
    It's also comforting to know as a 100% service connected disabled veteran, if my physical condition worsens, there is a safer and easier option to camp with our RTT!
    Kudos to RubiconEP.

      Good morning Casey. So glad that you're close to finally getting your rig all set up after the long wait! 23Zero and DiamondBack, can't go wrong! And thank you very much for the kind words and appreciation of our unique solution! Should you ever want to add a Hitch Tent to your quiver of outdoor equipment, please reach out as we have a program for military and first responders. Have a great adventure!

    I bought the RubiconEP hitch tent set up for my Tepui tent and have used it a couple of times. It deploys as easily as stated but I do recommend lubricating the leg slides prior to your trip. It definitely makes a difference when leveling the tent. The ability to decouple the tent and use your vehicle is a huge plus to go exploring. I will be buying their new "monopod" stabilizer to replace my Tepui ladder though because the ladder is too long to sufficiently stabilize the tent. It's on their website but I'm hoping to catch an image of it prior to buying. One last note: the RTT mounting frame and other components are extremely well made and top notch.

      How did using the item affect your driving. Wind drag, noise, performance and mpgs? Just curious because if I ever get one i plan to go interstate with it

    It's a nice sulotion. Is there a speed limit when driving them? It feels like a huge drag.

    • @rubiconep6540
      @rubiconep6540  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi! There are no speed restrictions with our Hitch Tent, other than the ones set by law for the highway of which you're traveling. As for drag, different size tents on different shaped vehicles have varying results. That being said, almost every combination has been well reviewed, especially when compared to the traditional mounting of an RTT that mounts a 10-14" x 48" square edge on your roof. Even trucks with no camper shell have reported slim to zero drag or influence on their fuel milage. Great question! Thank you for reaching out!

    Is the unit weight enough to keep it stable in bad weather or Do you have to secure this in some way like when you have to stake a tent?

    Is there a way to lock it to the hitch as to prevent theft?

    Can the tent be in the travel position where the legs of the rack are facing the opposite way. So 180° so the legs of the rack would be next to the tailgate of the vehicle. I ask because im interested in a RTT that has a rack on the roof but in this case the rack wouldn’t do me any good if my spare tire is in the way.

    • @rubiconep6540
      @rubiconep6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bailey, thanks for the question. We aren't exactly sure how turning the Hitch Tent around 180 would help with your concern, but can tell you that this isn't possible. That being said, we have numerous customers that have solved the concern of a rear mounted spare by installing and extension or swing-away between the Hitch Tent and their rig. Hopefully this helps, but feel free to reach out with further questions or ideas to contact@rubiconep.com
      Cheers!

    Can you use a James Baroud or other hard shell RTT or does it have to be soft shell?

    • @rubiconep6540

      Hi GH. We're very sorry about the massive delay in a response, we're not sure what happened. Maybe you've long since had this question answered, or you've moved on, but again, we're sorry. To answer your question, there are 2 hard shell RTT's that we know will work on our Hitch Tent: The iKamper Skycamp Mini and the RoofNest Condor (not XL). Below is a link to an Overland Expo review of our HT with the Condor mounted to it. Check it out and see what you think.

    This is a very interesting product and It eliminates alot of issue with RTT. However, one issue that I see being a problem are mud/water crossings ... if you go through any significant water or mud your going to get your tent completely soaked. This isn't bad for the weekend warrior, but there's some issue's with people do serious traveling in any type of weather. I would imagine most tents would leak just being in that position and getting rained on. Eitherway, cool product and hopefully you guys can build on it to make it perfect.

    • @rubiconep6540
      @rubiconep6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment. This is a concern, but you'd be surprised how weather resistant the RTTs are in this position. That being said, we do have a product on the drawing board to resolve your concern. If we have more requests, we'll push that further up the line! Thank you for your interest in our Hitch Tent.

      @rubiconep6540  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good morning Ryan, thank you for your question. We always recommend that you check with your local law enforcement on legalities of plates and lights, but our Hitch Tent does come with a license plate relocation bracket. We have customers all over the US and thus far, this solution seems to pass all requirements. Hope that helps. Have a great day!

    Hi, great solution. Can I use a Double Hitch so we can place our eBike Carrier (175 lbs. with bikes and carrier) between our Full Size SUV (Yukon) and your Tent Hitch??? Seems like your tent hitch & tent would work better in front and our eBike Rack on the very back. Do you have, or plan to have, any upgrade that will allow this option?

    • @rubiconep6540
      @rubiconep6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Al, thank you for the kind words. Glad that you like our solution. As for your question, the short answer is: Yes, you could stack both products off the back of your Yukon. But obviously, there are some variables. Along with your bikes & rack of 175lbs, you would need to account for another 160lbs (with the smallest RTT) worth of Hitch Tent and RTT. So you'd need to start with the capacity of your receiver. Class III or better, at minimum.
      From there, several companies make robust dual-hitch-receivers. You'd need to search for some that would meet your requirements.
      In our opinion, it would be best to stack the Hitch Tent closest to the vehicle, and then your bike rack beyond that. A swing way would really be the best way to make this the most functional, but not sure that all of that could be stacked together. Otherwise you'd have to completely remove your bike rack, before deploying Hitch Tent, or getting into the rear of your vehicle.
      At this time, we do not have plans to make a pass-through type receiver for Hitch Tent.
      We appreciate you reaching out and look forward to answering any other questions that you may have. Please feel free to reach out to us for more in-depth answers at contact@rubiconep.com
      Have a great day!

      Hello Dan. We'd like to start with a quick clarification. We do not manufacture any roof top tents (RTTs). Our Hitch Tent rack system is a hitch based solution for roof top tents. Hitch Tent is compatible with most all folding style RTTs up to 62" (queen mattress) when folded shut. We sell two brands of RTTs: 23Zero and HUTCH brand tents. This video shows the 23Zero Breezeway 56" (double mattress) RTT. You can find the dimensions of this RTT on our website at rubiconEP.com or at 23Zero.com Have a great day!

    What is the total tongue weight on a complete unit? Range?

    • @rubiconep6540
      @rubiconep6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question EJ. Our Hitch Tent rack system weighs 60lbs, and compatible RTTs weigh between 100 - 150lbs. So your total tongue weight would land between 160 - 210lbs. Cheers!

    A 4 'Season' TENT???....

    • @rubiconep6540
      @rubiconep6540  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While a tent can only go so far, many of the RTT's we carry are actually rated to moderate snow loading! This is due to their heavy canvas construction and aluminum poles that make up the structure. Couple this with an insulated base and a 3" Mattress, and they do extremely well in the cold compared to any other tent solution!

    I can see two big issues. It will get really dirty back there and zero visibility. It looks horrible traveling and blocking all of the lights. At least make it folds.
