      Shawn Ennis....My dad grew cotton, soybeans and I think corn way, way back in the 50's in Arkansas near a small farm town named Osceola. I remember one time when it was cotton picking time . The cotton would be dumped into these old, rickety, wooden sided cotton trailers and then taken to the nearby cotton gin just a few miles away. I asked Dad if I could ride in the trailer to the gin. He said no. On the way back to the fields from the gin, the trailer somehow got loose and crashed into the ditch. I never asked again...!!!

    Always great video content from Field Rows channel. Now, answer me a question if you would. Why,on the newer model peanut pickers, are the tire tread reverse from the normal direction of the rear tires on the tractor? Older models had ribbed tires not cleated. But it might fall into the same category of why do you drive on a parkway and park in a driveway. IDK. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

    • @farmcentralohio
      @farmcentralohio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tread is backwords for compaction reasons. When they are like the tractor tires the tread digs in for more pulling power, backwords they float across the ground better.

    • @FieldRows
      @FieldRows  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good eye I have no idea? Amadas … why is this ?

      @farmcentralohio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FieldRows Compaction :)

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FieldRows Yeah in muddy/wet conditions the reversed tread helps squeeze the soil under the tire since the outside ends of the lugs hit the ground first. Tractor tires you want the center of the chevrons to hit the ground first so they "dig in and bite" to get traction. Same reason they mount them backwards on pull type sprayers and auger carts and stuff. If you have something like a hay rake or ground driven equipment with chevron lugged tires, they'll mount those backwards too, but for a different reason-- since the ground is imparting the torque to the wheel, meaning the wheel is under load turning the equipment and might start to slide in wet spots, having the chevrons reversed keeps the tire from loading up with mud in a wet spot and gives better traction to keep the tire (and thus the machine) turning. Used to see guys in the old days have the tires turned backwards on cotton pickers and combines and stuff where if they got stuck in a wet spot, they'd have more traction to back out since the tires would be pointed "forward" when going in reverse... Later! OL J R :)

    Just found your channel. I,m from southern Alberta, Canada and was interesting to watch how peanuts are harvested. Watching you cut the wind some to stop throwing out good peanuts made perfect sense. Your trying to get the right balance for a clean sample and save the most. I subscribed and will watch more again when I have time. How much rain can a peanut take before quality goes down? What do they do with a lower grade? Thanks

    • @FieldRows
      @FieldRows  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say anything more than an inch of rain is going to hinder your yield.The longer they sit the weaker the stems get and they fall off. Lower grade is used for oil most of the times.

    • @kendallwilliamson8193
      @kendallwilliamson8193 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FieldRows Okay that makes sense. Kind of like our barley if left for straight cutting rain weakens the stem and the head falls on the ground. I farmed for around 8 or 10 years and grew up on the farm and enjoyed it but I just didn,t have enough acres to make it viable. Worked on a few different farms over my years and welding shops. 7 years ago I went to the coal mine in BC and enjoy that change too. Thanks for the reply.

    Great sight to see...got a couple of ???s..
    Have y'all found any bell boys in the trailers yet?
    Is the sampling and grading process, the same that it was back in the 80's or has it changed over the years.(that's the last time I pulled samples and graded.)
    Is Keithy going to dog hunt this year and if so, where and will he be filming. Enjoyed his videos from last season. Kept me going while I couldn't get in the woods.
    Maybe the rain will slack and let y'all back in the fields. God is great.
