Once I arrive at the airport, I’ll go to Vienna centre and so I’ll buy from a ticket machine OBB two tickets, one additional ticket for the borders of Vienna and one for 48 hours. Do I need to validate the 48 hours ticket or not? If yes, can I validate it at the airport station? Please let me know, thanks!!

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you take the train to Meidling, you have to buy your ticket at one of the machines. Just select the destination you want, and it will calculate the correct amount for your ticket. So yes, it can be done with one ticket that includes the fare for the whole ride. Just make sure that the price for the ride within Vienna is included, but this should be the standard setting.

    Well, I didn't understand. If I need VAL2, when leaving airport on the board there is no any information about where bus goes, VAL1, VAl2, VAL3. So how understand that?

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The video was made in 2020, when services where limited and some of them suspended. That's why the display in the video only shows the connections that were in operation at that time. As of today, all three bus lines VAL 1, VAL 2, and VAL 3 are back in service. Consequently the display will now show the upcoming connections and their departure times. You can also check the timetable for these buses before your arrival on the website www.viennaairportlines.at/.

      @@gretetheaustrianguide omg, many many thanks for replying. I searched everywhere, on other TH-cam videos, in the internet, but couldn't find the answer! Now I will not stress until the trip :) if I don't bother you, just one more question, I found that on the site of Vienna Airport Lines is possible to buy a ticket in advance, but when clicking "buy tickets" it redirects to the other site of Postbus. So does it mean, that if I buy the tickets in advance, at the board I'll need to check where the Postbus stops? Not VAL2? And how to find the station of this bus for return from Vienna old town? Thank you :)

      Yes - I always buy my ticket in the ÖBB app. If you purchase it there, it generates a QR Code. If the conducter wants to see the ticket you just show this code. No need to print the ticket. Just keep in mind, that you cannot switch phone. The QR Code will only be produced on the phone, where you purchased the ticket (no idea why though). A single ticket for two zones (Airport-Schwechat is the outer tariff zone, from Schwechat everything is the Vienna city zone) is valid for one trip in one direction, including changes (but not going backwards or in circles).
      You can even mix a single-trip (to get into the city) and eg. 24-hour ticket (within the city); there should be options on the ticket machines if I remember correctly. (Else: just get single ticket to "Schwechat" and an eg. 24h for the city zone.)

    Be careful when buying a ticket for the Schnellbahn S7. I went to Vienna last week. I ticked the senior ticket as I am 66. I was told by a ticket inspector that I had the wrong ticket. I apparently should have had a Vorteilscard. Which I wouldn't have known about as it was my first visit to Vienna. I got fined 105 euros. The inspector wasn't interested that it was accidental. The only place I saw an inspector was on the journey to Vienna and at the end of my holiday back to the airport. I feel there is an element of catching the tourist here. On the way back to the airport there were 3 German speaking guys who had the wrong ticket. The inspector didn't fine them but told them to get off at the next station. Be warned. Lovely city though!

      Excluded are airport buses, the Westbahn, and the City Airport Train (CAT). Within Vienna you can use all lines, such as buses, trams, underground (U-Bahn), Badner Bahn, ÖBB trains, and most regional bus lines. But take care: If you cross the city boarder you will have to pay extra for these lines (eg ÖBB & S7).

      Depends on how you buy the ticket. But generally speaking: If you buy it at an ÖBB vending machine, where you select the exact date and time and connection, it will be valid for this exact connection, and you don't have to validate the ticket anymore. But there are tickets that need validation. You will find the validating machines before accessing the train platform.

      If you have a day pass of Wiener Linien you travel to or from the airport you have to buy a separate ticket. However, if you go by ÖBB train or S7, you can select, that you already have ticket for Vienna and the train ticket will get cheaper.

      Most airport transfers by car start from around 35 EUR. -But only if you order this service in advance. Taxi will be charged by time and distance and might be even more expensive. But of course it might be worth the comfort :)

    Hi! Thank you for such a useful video! I have a question, is it necessary to register or somehow check in an ÖBB ticket directly on the train, or do you just buy it in one of those vending machines and you're good to go?

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi there! You can book the ticket online in advance for the öbb train. But it is not necessary. And honestly I would not recommend it, since sometimes the planes are delayed or it takes longer to pick up the luggage. -So it could happen that you miss the train you booked the ticket for. I would just buy the tickets at the vending machines and take the next train :) If you plan to go to Vienna you can also check out the Videos on my other channel. Its German but most videos (expecially the newer ones) have English subtitles! Channel name: is "Grete Walz" th-cam.com/users/gretewalz

    Hi, thanks for the very nice and informative video. I have one thing that is unclear: if I buy a weekly ticket, which costs €17.10, which additional tickets do I need to buy in order to travel from Vienna Airport to the city center, and vice versa, on the first and last days of my weekly pass and how?

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The weekly ticket will only be valid for the city of Vienna.The airport is a little bit outside of Vienna, so you have to buy a ticket for this part of the connection. As mentioned in the video, you can go by bus, ÖBB train or CAT train. You have to buy these tickets separately from the weekly ticket.

    • @amiram10
      @amiram10 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes and no.. the SBahn (S7) and the ÖBB trains are mostly included. You just need to buy an additional ticket, costs 2,10 € for the first two stops from the Airport to the station Schwechat, as this part of the route is not included in the Vienna tickets. Also mind that the prices today are slightly more expensive than they were back then.

    We are leaving Vienna today. One thing I feel is left out of most of these videos is the S7 line as an add-on to any ‘all access’ tickets you may have bought. I believe if you have any 24hr + pass you can get an add on for just 2 euros one way! But you have to get it from the OBB app or machine or counter. You can’t buy even the full 4.80 S7 ticket from the WienMobil app. And the airport transfer add on the city card is way more. I had to have some help to figure out the add on/discount in the OBB app, I wouldn’t take the chance of picking the wrong discount - the OBB app is more confusing to use than the WienMobil app for tourists. But if you want the cheapest way and have already bought some kind of transport pass within Vienna I was told with the machines it is easier to use because in the right hand corner as you are purchasing your ticket there is a choice for ‘city limit’ of some kind and that will give you the correct discount.

      @@gretetheaustrianguide well - it’s probably more complicated than most people want to attempt 😁. We just ubered from the airport since there were 4 of us. It’s not too expensive compared to many other cities in Europe when it is divided between more than 2 people.

    You are assuming one wants to go to central Vienna from the airport. What if you want to take the S7 the OTHER way, toward Fischamend and Wolfstahl? Can you buy such a ticket from the machine? And is it the red machine from which you buy the S7 ticket? And where exactly in the airport is the train station located? Is it near Terminal 3, or which terminal is it close to? Is there GOOD online map of the airport that shows where the train station is? This video answers some questions, but leaves many other un-answered.

    Excellent, Grete! My family/I will visit Vienna 4/9/23 - 4/15/23 and we will stay with Hotel Am Schubertring located at Schubertring 11, 1010 Wien, Austria. Based on what I saw from your video, it seems that we can buy tickets to take S7 from the airport to Wien Mitte and walk for about 14 minutes to the hotel. May you kindly advise if this scenario would be effective? Many thanks!
