These two men were perfect together. It was very sad, and extremely unfortunate that Troy Gentry had to pass over at such a young age. I know how much this had to impact Troy's family. I am positive that Troy Gentry was a very special person. As a totally disabled veteran, I just wanted to say thank you for the unwavering support of our United States Military.
I like when people forget hometown field advantage always means something . God put us here and we stayed for a reason . Cause we care not necessarily what everybody else has got goin on but we care bout what’s going on in “ our” town . Respect the home field advantage and you should be just fine 😊
I really don't know about y'all, but when l listen to this song, it takes me back to a small town in rural PA. Where I was raised and learned about God, country, and mother. I remember Great Uncle Rip and his tenacious behavior. Man, that guy was not scared of anything. I guess when you drive a tank in Europe in WW11, it does change you. I also remember my grandparents and the strict upbringing I received from them. They didn't have much, but I sure will say one thing that house of theirs was a full abundance of love. I also remember the other relations in my family that had a deep impact on me. God, I miss them days and sure wished I had them back again. They say that your past relatives who have passed on their spirits will drop in from time to time to see how you are doing. You know what, I firmly believe that.
hell yeah. this is my town and my country. america. the land of the free and blood red blood and white teeth of grin and bare arms when necessary and blue eyes crying in the rain.
This song came out just as I was finishing my dream of a 'cross-country bicycle ride in 2002. I passed through so many small towns with genuinely friendly people, who would invite you to have a meal in their home, camp on their back lawn, or help you if you broke down on the road. This song reminds me of those places. It's not called the "heartland" for nothing.
So cool you got to have that experience. Hat off to you for taking the leap and making it happen. I always had that dream to one day do something like that but feel that time has passed. Sadly all those places are disappearing and the country is a much more dangerous place. Hearing country music makes my heart hurt and yearn for those simpler wholesome days. If you don’t mind me asking where did you start/finish and what states did you ride through? I watched a documentary 5 or 6 years ago of a competition where bikers(bicyclists) raced across the country to see who could end up at the end which I believe was in Virginia? I think it started in Washington? Or Oregon? But it was badass and fun to watch. Each competitor was a character and had their own story. Especially the woman that was trapped in a cult for her entire childhood once out not knowing how to interact with other humans in society (felt like I could relate) she started biking, riding her bike everywhere I think she was from Italy? But she rode on every continent (I believe). A few years back I was curious to find out whatever happened to her and learned that her husband passed I think while rafting down a river in a South American country? If I remember correctly he disappeared where there were alligators ahh I can’t remember. I think I was watching a random crazy TH-cam and found out that she was his wife. Small world well ya know ironic same lady I watched years ago. It’s unfortunate she has had to experience so much trauma I. Her life but at the same time I bet she has lived a lot of life in between. I can’t remember the name of the movie (race. Maybe “Driven”?))now but just that it was awesome and inspiring. Inspired me to get a road bike and ride. My goal was to ride everyday no matter what, rain or shine, 2 in the morning, wind, on no sleep. Whatever I do remember this one time on my way back and my stupid battery in my headlight went out! That was scary. Still had couple miles to go along the highways where there were zero streetlights. But I’ll never forget those times. I was and still am I guess a shy person and it helped me become stronger and view my self as a badass. Amazing how physical action Now you have to worry about some criminal mowing you down for fun.
@@KeepPrayingCA Hi. Thanks for the response. Me and two ride partners started in Boston and ended in WA north of Seattle, riding through the northern border states. After they went home I continued my ride down the Oregon coast for a ways. I thought maybe I'd try it again someday, but life has gotten way more complicated since then. I'm just grateful I had the chance and that it all went OK.
I LOVE this band I was very few black people at their gig in Louisville I’ve been a professional musician all my life and truly appreciate GOOD MUSIC and genuine talent … one WILL find these things with MG JS
I grew up absolutely obsessed with these guys. They were my first concert and my first real music love. Listening to their music really helps heal the hurt that T-Roy's tragedy. Love you MG.
This song is still so very relevant to so many of us who grew up in these communities with Farms and Textile/Wood/Grain etc..Mills around us, sure does take me back to those days to hear this song. They closed down several Mills in our town also and one actually did sound off the 12 o' clock whistle, for a while, that meant Lunchtime to everyone within earshot of that whistle, Ol Grandpa sure would be fired up by this song, gets ya right there in the Heart.

This is my town, this was my band. Made sure we saw them every year they came to Wisconsin. For one night each year the everyday stress of life was put aside as we got lost in a carefree, wild few hours of absolutely the best music we had ever heard. They always put on a great show as they were even better to see live, outdoors, under the stars. RIP Troy, you were our favorite singer and your smile let us know that everything was going to be ok. We all lost a little bit of our youth last week.
This is the very first song that introduced me to these two talented men. You'll be forever missed Troy, but this is a classic tune that hits you right in the heart.
Very sad to hear about Troy's passing today, I got to meet him twice and got to see them perform quite a few times over the years..... My wife and I went to Triangle park in Downtown Lexington when they recorded this video. Great memories of that day
It can still be that way, have Faith in Heavenly Father and Pray thru Christ Jesus that we will always be a Nation that Loves God, Family, and our Nation/Community.
I discovered them at an old job i did collecting for a medical lab. Saw a poster for them performing on one of the doors of an office I picked up from after hours up in Poughkeepsie, NY. Probably 10-11 years ago. I took the poster off the door and kept it lol. Can't believe Troy died... absolutely surreal.
Lucky for them the first song they wrote was good. They don't have a bad song because all their songs sound exactly the same. They use the same 3 chords and melody in every song.
When half of the duo got busted for killing a tame bear for $5000, they fell off almost over night. Sometimes fame and money makes you think you can do anything...money certainly can...the fame part is where you run into trouble.
My daddy used to love them and this song he passed away 7 years ago and it still makes me emotional to remember being a child and my parents blaring this with our windows down driving to our little house we thought no bad could happen in the world … shortly after my parents broke up and it changed our lives forever 😢
Even right now with their Album Here's to you,I have yet to hear any of those great songs being played on Country Radio or even on thr Top 40 Countdown because if you ask me,every song on that album is a hit.
Don't exactly understand why Troy's death has had such a deep, deep effect on me. I don't know how long ago he passed, but it still feels like last week. It's still impossible for me to make it through a MG listening session without one or more outburst of tears. These two were the benchmark for keeping it real, standing tall, saluting the flag, showing love, having a blast, and kicking ass.

I bought this CD ...After talking with family in the south one day... No lie!!...I packed a few things ...Hit the road at 2 am... Played this cd all the way down as I drove I-75 south ( i had this song on repeat all the way.....That dark road was long and haunting !!....But It took me back down south .First time since I was 15 years old ....I am now 60... Just got in my truck with about 2 grand and rode from burbs of Detroit to the deep south ....When I got there..Most of the things in that town that I grew up with -was gone.!!.But few things and family was still there . I cried ,,Couldn't believe it ..I had came back to a place I knew and grew up in as a child ...I called it home once..!! Everything that they sing in this song says it,,,,,,,,So spot on......I onced lived this song for a short time in the south ..I couldn't stay .. But I 'll go back ...You always find your way back home!!...Yep !! "My Town..
My hometown has had only 1 stoplight for as long as I can remember. With a population of less than 800 ppl and I'm proud to have the life I've I had while growing up.

This song is like a hymnal for us country folks. God, family, country. It's the foundation of our country from the very beginning of it.
That's exactly the way our Heavenly Father designed it, Love our Heavenly Father and his Son Christ Jesus, our Families, and our Nation, this especially applies to our Nations Leaders, I will add that we need to hear that from our Leaders, always..
Got that right
