This song is the imbodiment of "infatuation vs true love". Infatuation loves an idea or perfection. Real true love sees the person for who they are (flaws, strengths, weaknesses, and all) and loves that person anyways.
Sometimes the person hides who they are behind lies and deceit. When the truth is finally admitted, and sometimes proven by chance, them too many negative non negotiables have been crossed. Let go and move on is best. Hold on to the good memories.
It's crazy how people will have someone good and leave them for some wild dream. I would do anything to have a normal person who loved me and was happy to sit at the dinner table in the evening with me. Someone who didn't act like I somehow wasn't enough to make them happy. Well....I'm about to have another birthday in about 2 weeks....and I'm spending it alone....again. If you read this and you have someone who loves you, treat them good. Be thankful for who you have and never miss a day telling them you appreciate/love them. 💕
And sometimes we're NOT getting back what we're emitting. You can be a very good person with precious qualities but if you're very unique it may take a while to find someone who is compatible with your calling in life. I'm a nice person, but because of my life calling not everyone would be compatible because they cannot handle all of the traveling. I also counsel with people who have experienced trauma. It's a very specific calling. It's not that I'm not kind or friendly. It's that people aren't compatible.
I'm 70 and she still hasn't changed me, blue jeans, hat, cowboy boots pickup truck, fishing living in the woods, an old truck driver. Something things you just can't change, and I'm one.
Just buried my dad at 96 years old. We talked about everything he had seen in his life and how things had changed. Couldn’t believe he had grown old and the time and people that had gone by. Now I’m the old Patriarch at 66 and my time has flown by too. Awesome song to think about!
Saw these guys in concert in October in Ohio, in 2005, 22 years old. Bought my first motorcycle that year. Left for the show during the day, 40 miles or so to the fair, 50 or so degrees, but we had a new motorcycle and had to ride it. The temperature plummeted as the show went on. By the end of the show it was snowing, a total white out. We had to brush the snow off of the seat of the bike, and rode home in snow covered roads. As the trip progressed I had a pile of snow on my jackets where it was folding at my belly. It was slick, but the hardest part was keeping my eye wear clean. Never forget that!
R.I.P. Troy. This is my favorite MG song, and helped me cope with teasing as a young black teenager who loved country music when hip-hop was popular in my high school. I still love 90's country with all my heart and blessed to have MG as part of my life memories.. Being able to touch at least one person in a positive way means that your message nor life was in vain. Live on through us all TG. You are missed.
Never be ashamed of who you are and certainly do not change just to suit other people because you will be miserable. I have learned to be happy with myself no matter what other people may think of me. I live in predominately minority neighborhood where they blast that hip hop mess but I just crank my country music........lol
This was the song that turned me on to MG. Still love it till this day. So hard to believe T-Roy is no longer with us. RIP Brother Troy Stay strong Eddie
Hands down the best country duo of all time. I saw them in concert a few times. The first time I saw them they opened for Toby Keith let's just say montgomery gentry killed it.
This is in my dynamic duo playlist. I was fortunate enough to see MG Do this song in concert opening for Brooks and Dunn in San Bernardino April 2011. No one will ever replace Troy. RIP
My ex wife's theme song. A mocha skinned, red haired stunner from St. Elizabeth Jamaica. Well educated, refined, a real stunner. Everywhere we went the opera, theatre, or ballpark, people would stare. Her response was " actually I am really quite plain". Her humble nature was what I loved most about her.
This song always makes me feel better. A relative from TX introduced me to this song when I was in a low spot in my life. Now I listen to it every time I need a pick me up
RIP Troy...This will always and forever be my favorite M/G Song. And I personally believe if you look at it unbiased, I think it deserves a spot on the list of greatest country songs of all time
You will be missed Troy! I know that you are up there with God looking down upon us. I pray for your family whom are grieving their loss of such a wonderful man. Troy was the epitome of a father and husband. Please pray for the Gentry family as they endure this tragedy. God Bless.
This is probably my favorite video they made. The scenery and setting is amazing! Their wardrobe contrasts well the setting with them being dressed in all black, of course the red boots. Just a masterpiece. The song is great too.
This song has me all messed up & listening to it through out the whole day and night. I just can't get enough of it. Im still shocked at Troy's sudden passing!! Just goes to show how quickly things can and will change. Don't wait till later, love your fellow brothers & sisters today. It just might be your last.
I love this song. It makes me happy and sad all at the same time. My husband who passed away in 2007 used to sing this all the time. He loved the line broke down boots.
Good old 90s music
Miss all there music
Still loving this in 2025!
Absolutely
This song will stand the test of time. It’s such a great song
Love this type of country. No B.S. just solid tunes
Glad I lived during the golden ages of country, Hank Sr. , Bocephus, Skynnyrd, Allman Brothers, Toby, etc..proud to be living in the South!
Thank you Chris Knight for writing this. You are the boss of real country!
Chris Knight ❤

True and too many mistake the two. That's why many relationships don't survive nowadays.
Exactly
If u really truly love someone, would u take care of /provide for them even if ur NOT TOGETHER?
I couldn't have said it better, thank you.
Sometimes the person hides who they are behind lies and deceit. When the truth is finally admitted, and sometimes proven by chance, them too many negative non negotiables have been crossed. Let go and move on is best. Hold on to the good memories.
RIP Troy. This band has always been under rated, but always been one of my current day favorite country bands
Mine too😢

T-ROY ...... RIP one of the absolute best country singers of all time
The best duo of the late 90's and 2000's. Two great singers and great songs. Down to earth and real people.
That's how you know a woman really loves you. Worked for us.
I'm 70 and she still hasn't changed me, blue jeans, hat, cowboy boots pickup truck, fishing living in the woods, an old truck driver. Something things you just can't change, and I'm one.
but what about the cows? seems like what's missing from the cowboy lifestyle these days are cows.
So Glad I Had The Opportunity To See Them In Person Especially Now R.I.P Troy Gentry And Thanks All The Music You Left Us!
