Since Serco Group plc took over the franchise to operate the Caledonian Sleeper "Highlander" and "Lowlander" Anglo-Scottish overnight trains on 1st April, 2015, the definition of "First Class" travel has quietly changed from "Single Occupancy Cabin" to "En-Suite Room". But what is the point of paying over the odds for access to your own Wet Room (it's only a Bathroom if it contains a bath!) if the shower doesn't work at least half the time, and there's a perfectly good toilet with a washbasin at the end of the carriage? With the old Mark 3 rolling stock there were washing facilities in each cabin, plus access to the free showers in the First Class customer lounge at London's Euston Station either before or after your journey. Serco has put the price of Sleeper travel up to prohibitive levels, presumably happy to have wealthy tourists from north America as its main customer base, whilst systematically reducing the benefits ("Bargain Berths") and perks ("Loyalty Scheme"). The complimentary cooked "Highland Breakfast" served in the Lounge Car to passengers travelling in an "en suite room" is quite frankly a joke. Serco has also, incidentally, turned the Mark 5a Seated Coach into an instrument of torture which nobody in their right mind would travel in more than once, unless they enjoy being frozen to death and starved of sleep at the same time. I could go on about the poor design of the Spanish-built Mark 5 carriages compared to their 1981-2 British Rail Mark 3 predecessors, but I've probably written enough already!

At 10:15 a journey of over 8 hours is nothing compared to the longest train journey in the U.K. Aberdeen to Penzance on a cross country voyager for 13 1/2 hours

Caledonian Sleeper still has competition with its new counterpart-Lumo even though Lumo is low cost direct rail operator that only goes to Edinburgh Waverley from London Kings Cross with less stops and avoids stopping at York. And only has Class 803 5-Car Electric AC 25kv OHL AT300 IETs.

Hey mate why don't you try the azuma trains sleeper from kings cross to Edinburgh you are in for a real treat try it
You will never want to use the Caledonian sleeper train any more and you can listen to
Scottish music while travelling on the azuma trains sleeper service and the breakfasts are a lot more nicer and so are the cups of tea
