The mother strikes me as a responsible and empathetic person. The fact that she gave Alicia mental health days and attempted to brighten her up shows how much she cared for Alicia. It hurts my heart that people think ill of her. She's obviously doing her best and loves Alicia very much. I hope this case is resolved soon.

It’s so easy to put the blame on the parent apparently. People just love to hand out parenting advice, any parent could be in this situation and this could have happened to any children and it’s so clear that Alicia’s mother was so kind and caring about her daughters struggles and mental health and her social life😥 she did the best she could have done but for some reason that’s not enough for these judge parents...

Fr! I was a really sneaky kid when it came to social media when I was younger cuz my mom wouldn’t let me have it. All it takes is a smart child to hide stuff especially with how tech savvy kids can be so I don’t blame the mom at all

As a 16 year old I totally agree. Every single one of my friends use discord almost daily and have unrestricted Internet access (since we were about 10-12 actually). Although it shouldn't be common to prevent things like this from happening, it is a normality and we should NOT blame her mother.

She left at her own free will. She is 18 now and is still on her own not wanting to go home to the mom. No disrespect but why is she so distant from the mother?? What really happened why did she really leave? Grooming was assumed but I think it's something more. She didnt even sign the note with i love you mom. Jus an apology. N she hasnt contacted the mom this entire time. She jus wanted to be taken off the missing person list. She is not even in the same state as her mother she is in Montana. Hmmm what happens behind closed doors must have affected her. Should look more into the mother. Happy to hear she is safe and well..

It seems kind of bittersweet to me, since she doesn't seem to want to be found, really. She just wanted people to stop looking for her AND she waited until she was 18.... I don't believe no one has hurt her, I don't believe someone didn't hold her captive until she was a legal adult before letting her go talk to the cops.

    • @gaythlete4603
      @gaythlete4603 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Not found per se, she came out and found the cops on her own. It does seem very odd that she came after she turned 18, and it was just to be taken off the missing persons list. I bet whoever took her didn’t want her to go out until she was of legal age. It’s sick. I hope he is found out and jailed for grooming this poor girl.

She was most definitely lured. The note she left . Shows she had intentions on coming back. I think the person that lured her built up her trust, made her feel safe and accepted. She begun to grow a crush on this person, which made her want to impress this person with makeup and clothes. So sick. The mom is incredibly strong.

As a victim of grooming I really have to stress to everyone that no matter what you tell your child, it can still happen to them. It’s not because your child isn’t smart or capable, it’s because these are grown people who have done it many times before. They can manipulate children very easily. I was trapped by my groomer from 16 to 19. I didn’t realize it wasn’t a consensual relationship until I was 25.

Me too. I’m curious to know the details. I am glad it is known that she was safe and wasn’t hurt this entire time. It’s sketchy that she came out to the police station after turning 18. Who was she with the entire time? Why didn’t she go sooner? Is it because now whoever she is with, can’t be charged because she is of legal age…so many questions.
And my biggest question is, did she or could she have had the free will to come back home this entire time? The article I read said she turned herself in because she wanted her name off the missing persons list so she could obtain her drivers license..
Could she have had the chance to at least contact her mom…
Did she watch the clips of her mom sobbing on her birthday or her posts desperately looking for?
I just wonder. While still wanting to remain respectful of their privacy. It’s just a big story not to be curious about.

She ended up liking this man because he made her comfortable and that comic was something he liked and she felt she needed to give him a gift for being "good" to her. Many older ppl lurk in game rooms and he probably chatted with her and she gave him too much info about herself. He probably overshared info about himself so she would feel comfortable to share about herself. Sad and sick.

I believe the guy is a bit younger (21-30). Pink floyd is a very popular band even for the younger generations. The comic book may have been a cheap, strategically placed idea for a gift - something to make Alicia think its a real relationship and not grooming.
I feel alicia would have known a 30+ guy (especially 40+) is creepy/unappealing. Even if the guy was just pretending to be younger (very common with pedophiles).
Youre right that these creeps hang out in chatrooms, PMing every young girl they can.

Great advice regarding the steak house, I feel like they could check all surveillance around the area too even if they don't think it could be connected. This guy sounds really distinct! Also why are there no sketches of him?
But just to let you know IP addresses are connected to the internet connection the computer has, not the device itself. There can be different IP addresses associated with the same device. Each device should have its own MAC address but not much can be worked out by just knowing this address alone unless they know the device its been connected to. The biggest problem is accounts like Discord can be secured with 2-Factor Authentication so even if they know her account logins, they cannot access the account without the device that the authentication is connected to.
One thing they might be able to do is to restore a version of her device either from iCloud or if she ever backed up her phone to a different computer. But I guess they must have thought about this.

Were either of the two people who saw the guy with tats able to describe any of them? Sometimes a tattoo is unique to one artist. Maybe the artist is local and since he has so many tats, maybe checking the local shops for their most repeat customers that fit the darker skin tone may be helpful. He seemed to maybe be from close to her area or he wouldn't have been there 4 days later. That makes me think a tat artist in that area has probably worked on him. If he was from out of town he would have hit the highway with her immediately.

I was just trying going to say something similar. It's amazing she's been found alive and safe but she waited till she was 18 to let anyone know she's okay and something is weird about that. I hope it's not some kind of Stockholm syndrome type of thing. I really hope her family gets answers and reassurance and gets to be around her now. I pray she doesn't dissappear on them again and can tell her family at least why she left. Even if we don't ever know why, I hope her moms gets answers she needs. Even if they aren’t talking to strangers, they should be sleeping. Can’t tell you how many TIRED teens I have who say they stayed up youtubing or whatever til 4am. Have them turn it off and turn it in to you before bedtime. Studies are showing that not only is there stranger danger but mental and physical health issues due to lack of sleep, peer pressures etc.

im autistic like alicia and i rely on my phone to do everyday tasks. this might be helpful for allistic people, but this would cause more damage than good to people like me. i would feel very isolated, social situations are not easy to me and my phone can act as a buffer. this can very easily be harmful for autistic people, autistic people have different needs and different ways of doing things than allistic people. not to mention how many ND people use the internet to for their hyperfixations/special interests and to learn about topics that schools refuse to teach. it also connects us to people like us, which is very important.

Unpopular opinion here, but i think that without being scared, we don't take enough precautions. And even then, it could not be enough.
Parents do as much as they can and sadly, not enough people talk about the dangers of the internet or smart devices.
Perhaps games and apps for kids shouldn't have a messaging option? as in no forum, no private messages, nothing like that...
Additionally, the 'groomer' was testing Alicia to see how obedient she is. I'm sure all the requests she made were because he told her to ask for those. Especially the expensive comic book.

Exactly, unless you actually get and know the red flags and know what will happen to you, your never going to actually understand what will happen. If you just sugar coat it then no one will actually get it. For example when I was smaller my mom used to tell me not to talk to strangers, I didn’t care and I would go online and at one point I got someone’s number, after that my mom told me what would happen to me and didn’t just sugar coat it. After that I never did that ever sgain

I don’t think all parents know to discuss Internet safety with their kids, especially ones who depend on their kids to help them with the computer. Or those with parents who have to work and leave their kids at home by themselves and no one to monitor their usage.
My parents used to often tell us stories about bad things that happened in the news with strangers. At least with me, it scared me sufficiently enough that I never talked to anyone I didn’t know, online. The only instance was maybe when our school board had an online system for all students in the schools in our district. So basically, people also in high school, that you can chat with. I think they scrapped it though, because they didn’t want to bear the responsibility of monitoring it. I thought that was something they should of maintained because it would have allowed kids to talk with others who are actually their peers (students had to have accounts approved by a teacher). It’s quite sad because these kids just want to be able to develop friendships, but come across evil predators, like what happened with Alicia.

Agreed, my oldest son is 10. He has Nintendo not xbox or playstation because Nintendo is the only kids gaming console that has no chat feature. To have a chat feature you have to download an app and of course they have to have passwords etc for the app store which he doesn’t have the password i do as its linked to my bank which also has encouraged him to ask permission to search for new games and such. He only goes on the internet at school not at home as he doesn’t need it i prefer books for research and knowledge and he doesnt have a phone and i have no plans to get him one any time. If he wants to speak to his school friends out of school me and the other mums set up zoom meetings for them. It is hard sometimes as he sees other kids have things and questions me but i have explained to him the dangers of online and that the fact is it is each individual’s choice what they let their child do and just because their friends mums are ok that doesnt mean i have to be ok. I actually might watch this video with him since it wasnt actually graphic or anything and id like him to hear this information.
