There's more choice out there for the first time in years, but the prices are much higher than most truck folk expected. How is this affecting your decisions about owning a truck? Did you have one in mind but are now thinking of another, or are you holding out for new products that are still on their way? Let me know in the comments below!

In this exquisite EV club of ours, we don't care about prices. EVs are the 1000% guaranteed future, have absolutely no dubious downsides and they are like Pokemon : we all need to "collect them all" regardless of how outrageous MSRPs get. In fact, a higher MSRP makes us appreciate our EVs even more and makes everyone else even more jealous, so bring it on Elon! We gots da cash, brah! How else would we impress the neigbors and fellow Costco shoppers?
As for all the ICE-owning FUDDS, those poor fools can continue paying taxes at the gas pump and expensive car registrations for their ICE jalopies! We're above that, with our political connections at Big Green and special license plates, which set us apart from the common peasantry.
Btw, to answer your question, the next EV on my "to buy" list is the Rolls-Royce Spectre. Because F-it, why not? Gonna be the king of the Costco parking lot with dat whip. Cha ching, brah... represent! 😎 💵💵💵

Again, wrong. I suggest checking the data before posting. You know, those pesky little tidbits known as facts?
My Lightning Flash was the same price as a V8 F150 in the same trim level. In fact, currently, the Pro and XLT are less in Canada than the V8 equivalent due to Ford offering employee pricing for the first time on their EV trucks in this country. And yeah, that was all without incentives.
      EV truck 'fuel' efficiency: 90%

Factory warranty on gas truck drive train: 60,000 miles or 5 years
Annual 'fuel' costs of an ev truck per annum in Canada: ~$300/yr. ( evbuyersguide.caa.ca/content/costs )

lol you had me goin for a second there with that headline. I can’t imagine giving up my XLT ER ! Congrats on getting the ER. That standard range is definitely a big difference. Watched a lot of ur videos. I like the red . I have silver. 8900 miles so far and loving it. The price pleased me as well with the rebates😊. I got the Lectron adaptor about 3 months ago and only used it 3 times so far but good to have. Life with standard range or no Tesla access would suck so things are very good for me. If you can charge at home it’s awesome. If you have to tow a lot and/or travel distances often maybe not so much. I can drive a truck around town or commuting and various truck activities and not get killed at the pump every week. Oh, I had to use the truck to power, my air conditioner, refrigerator, and electric stovetop for a day all at the same time for cpl hours off an extension cord and used 2% over about 8 hrs. And the FRUNK!!!

I wanted the F150 Lightning so bad. Had every intention of buying one despite pretty much hating Ford products. Then we took a trip from Orlando to the Keys. Rented a fully loaded Wrangler. We fell in love with the fun factor of the Jeep. Plus I noticed that charging solutions were pretty scarce once we got past Miami. Still planned on getting that Lightning though. Had $15k burning a hole in my pocket for a down payment. Headed over to the Ford dealer only to find that almost all of the XLT trim were marked up damn near $20k over MSRP. So at that point I was just fed up. I didn't want to pay almost $80k for something that was obviously going to inconvenience me on long trips. The memories of that rented Jeep sent me over to the local Jeep dealership. Walked out with a fully loaded Gladiator Mojave and I don't regret it one bit. I hope to eventually own an EV one day but it's just not that day yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that Jeep will eventually release a Gladiator 4xe in the Mojave trim. If they ever do I'll be first in line for one.

Things have changed quite a lot in the past year with Lightnings. The comment below yours talks about being able to buy a Platinum trim for under $60k. In Canada, not so much, but now on par with most gas options.
We have far fewer chargers and a much bigger country here in Canada, but charging is never a problem. It's wrapping our heads around the idea that for 90% of the time our house is our ⛽️ station, at a fraction of the cost of fast charging.
I think you've got a great strategy, however, with the fun factor included. I hope all auto co.s offer a plug-in hybrid or bev version of all their trims eventually.
      Thanks for the comment!

Doug Demuro just did a video on the Silverado EV WT (he was terribly out-of-date on his info because the RST is already on the streets, which he seemed to be unaware of). His biggest gripe was price for what you get. Same with Munro Live's video yesterday on the same thing. Too much cheap plastic, not enough comfort features, and trying to justify the money all wrapped around a massive battery pack. The price GM is trying to get away with could kill this truck's success.

The only reason I didn’t get the F450 is because they only make it in a dually and I wanted a fleet side. There is nothing my truck can’t do as a truck. EV vehicles are great for strictly city driving, short trips and maybe buying mulch at Home Depot but nothing more. The only reason Ford and Chevy did it was because of government mandates and they are just sitting on the lots now getting lot rot because nobody wants them. @@truckedupevs Vitriol, you say? Well, that's rich coming from you, lol! I have deleted my other replies well before you posted, btw.
Still, your initial reply is BS from A to Z. EVs are status symbols for the rich kids on the block, financed IN LARGE PART by everyone else who isn't interested in them, because of govt "EV mandates" and outrageous production costs to manufacturers. At the end of the day, other people (taxpayers and ICE vehicle consumers) must finance 50% or more of your precious EV.
What you end up paying is but a fraction of the actual manufacturing cost. Then you also fail to contribute to road infrastructure by not paying fuel taxes and levies. There is a word for that : *freeloading.*
      FACTS.

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@SevenSixTwo2012 I see that you might not be familiar (or maybe not willing to read anything that contradicts your argument?) regarding public funding of the oil & gas industry.
I just gave you an example of a direct subsidy to consumers that lasted years that basically emboldened massive SUV and truck manufacturing for over a decade and a half - to pad the pockets of the Big Three using public tax dollars, the more wasteful, the better, leading to a doubling of the size and weight of the average passenger car in North America from 2003 to present. Talk about unpaid road damage.
That WAS an incentive, never mind the hundreds of billions over the decades via government corporate tax break packages, subsidies, and R&D slush funds - massive amounts of public money fed to oil & gas exploration, fracking, road access, power lines, and the massive amount of hydro used to run refineries, never mind multi-billion dollar, taxpayer-funded pipeline projects.
That's basically taking money out of our pockets and turning around and giving it to billionaires.
Long before the 1st EV truck hit the market in 2022, the prices on ICE trucks had already gone through the roof. The once, standard work truck became a luxury grocery-shopping SUV (85% of Americans never tow or haul with their trucks, and drive under 40 miles a day). The gravy train for GM, Ford and Stellantis has always been their truck divisions, and the vehicles are some of the easiest to build - being the design has basically stayed the same for decades. They'll happily take everyone's money for the most overpriced, inefficient, horribly non-aerodynamic bricks with wheels for as long as people are gullible enough to give it to them.
Also, if your math was accurate, the prices on ICE trucks would be coming down, not going up, because EV trucks are shaving off demand. Demand falls, so does the price. And your road tax narrative - a common trope - is mostly false. That's not a personal attack. It's a fact about the supposed data you are quoting.
Every state and province uses general revenue to fund roads, not fuel taxes. On top of that, the purchasing power of fuel taxes (which in many cases, funds more O&G subsidies), has declined more so due to inflation and fuel efficiency. As people use less fuel, the taxes collected from fuel taxes decline - but that has nothing to do with road use. That is paid from overall tax revenues. If anyone were to listen to this argument, that would mean efficiency is a bad thing and we should all waste more. Those large SUVs and trucks, as Americans shifted from cars to larger vehicles added more weight per driver than any level of EV adoption, so the case also that evs are heavier is kind of funny. Also, according to the US Department of Transportation, the number-one damage to roads occurs from large commercial transport trucks, not light duty vehicles. However, even with tolls, commercial vehicles pay a proportionately lower tax rate on roads than consumers, which means the biggest abusers of roads pay the least.
As far as losing money, cell phones, personal computers, the dot.com explosion, search engines, and every other new tech when introduced lost crap-piles of money as the industry either caught up or died. Ford will survive because it's investing and taking the hit now. GM, Stellantis, Volkswagon, and Honda are as good as dead. 70% of all the world's evs are made in China - and they're now making trucks. According to IEA, one out of every 5 vehicles sold globally is already an ev, and that would be closer to 40% if it wasn't for the US being lower than every other major nation (www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2024/trends-in-electric-cars).
Just like all capitalist systems: compete or die. ICE vehicles WILL die...it's just a question of when.
One strong valid point you make, however, is that EV trucks are not some kind of answer to everything. They are simply another means of transportation. But at 90% efficiency compared to 30% for ICE, and being far more aerodynamic to boot, the 'toy' trucks are the ones currently on the road, not the evs that will replace them. It's likely just a matter of time until gas trucks are used about as much as horse and buggies after the advent of the automobile.
