My struggle is that I feel bad getting rid of books that were given to me as gifts. Even if I didn’t like it, I feel like I have to hang onto it because someone bought it for me.
My thought is always that the best part of a gift is simply that someone thought of you and wanted to give you something. The book isn’t doing anything for anyone when it just sits on my shelf. I know that if I gifted someone a book I would love for them to pass it on or donate it so others could enjoy it. Remember that the person thought of you and spread the joy to others :)
"I have books on my floor that need to be put on my shelf but there's no space for them." The correct response here is, "So I decided to buy more bookshelves." Just sayin'. 8-)
The thing is, no one gifts me books, there is NO library in the area I live, and I purchase only books I'm sure I would love to read because I'm broke. So I can't even dream of unhauling the books I own but sure do enjoy Merphy and other booktubers doing the unhaul and donating them. They will surely be useful to and liked by many others who can't afford to purchase them. Thank you!

About Battle Royal: To my memory you don't need to keep track of the characters. There is a central character, and a Final Boss, but otherwise pretty much works like a series of short stories. If this helps. But it's definitely not just another Hunger Games.
Aw, sad to see Good Omens is DNF. I like that book a lot. My battered copy is autographed by Sir Terry Pratchett himself. I keep trying to find out a way to get Neil Gaiman to autograph it too. I rarely unhaul books. Mainly because it is a pain in the bottom to do it. However, I have run out of shelf space so the time has come (and Charity Shops etc have reopened now.) Thanks for the video.
Merphy: "Because I don't want to get rid of a book I don't know anything about, because I might like it!" Also Merphy on literally the first question: "And then I have All The Missing Girls which I dont remember anything about."
Hey Merphy, would you ever consider doing a video about how you organize your reading life? (How you organize your TBRs, how much you read a day, etc.)

My method of clearing my bookshelves is doing a re-read. I'm working my way through all my books, interspersed of course with new books, and if I don't like it or won't recommend it I'm getting rid of it.
I'm glad you kept Good Omens, I personally thought it was okay the first time and amazing upon reread, as you kind of know what to expect then, so I'm hoping you'll give it another try some time. I’ve been catching up on your videos! Is that the same Battle Royale you meant to unhaul a year ago? :) I read Battle Royale twice, totally agree there are a lot of characters. It is really psychological and weird though. There are a few noteworthy characters: the main guy and the girl whom main guy’s friend liked (the friend died early in battle and main guy swears to protect her), the guy that won battle Royale previous year and transferred schools (he helps the main guy and girl throughout the book), the guy that can’t feel pain because of a previous accident, a girl that was physically and mentally abused when she was young (described as “angelic”), and the crazy teacher. That’s about it.
Your problem with 11/22/63 is the exact reason why I don‘t read King anymore. I‘ve read Misery, Shining, IT, Under the Dome and many more that I really did love, but in most of his books there‘s just so many pages of nothingness, endless descriptions and repetitions that nowadays I just don‘t feel motivated enough to pick him up anymore.
OATHBRINGER! I'm 150 pages away from completing my reread of Words of Radiance and I'll be diving into Oathbringer. I gave up reading it @ approx 54% 1. because I stopped caring for Shallan and her side of the story and 2. because even WITH a day long recap of the plot points of Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, I COULDN'T remember a lot of what happened in them.

So as I get new books, SoT goes into a box to get donated some day.
Same! SoT was my first "adult" fantasy series and now after reading so many better ones they only stay on my shelf because most of them were gifts from my sister who got me into the series
It hurt when Murphy unhauled 11/22/63 because i loved that book 😨. I was surprised she didn't pull out the Murakami ones.
Oooh I didn't know you owned Good Omens. I watched the show a few months ago and became obsessed with it and read the book afterwards and loved it a lot!
I absolutely love 11/22/63. First King book I read.
Alternate title: Merphy discards book of the month books discreetly 😂
Oooof hadn't read savior's champion but watch Jenna's writing advice lol
It's always enlightening over here.
