I have tried selling mine at a bookstore and I felt like I was not being paid fairly there. I want to get back into unhauling, but I need to find a much better way to do it!
Oh, give Spin the Dawn a chance! Saying that it's a Mulan retelling is a disservice to the story...that section ends quickly and you move onto an epic quest for mythological materials!
Thats super interested that there was so many people didn't love The Woman In Cabin 10....i had totally loved that book. But to each their own! Always nice to clear out some shelf space!
European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman?! I love that book! The first book, The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter, is fun too! It’s a great homage to Victorian Gothic classics!
Oh, it's nice that you can give your books to the library. Where I live, they are really strict for some reason, and don't allow people to just give them books and if they do, it has to be one of the specific versions they have in their system already :/
Another good place to donate books is at a hospital (if they accept book donations). I volunteer at my local hospital and they are always happy to accept book or magazine donations to give out to patients.
I love my VA series it was like the second series I ever read after getting into reading so even if I am not the target audience anymore I duno if I will ever give them away.
the first book in that european travel guide thing is the strange case of the alchemists daughter and is an all female retelling of jekyll and hyde as well as a lot of other classics. Is it fantastic? no but its very entertaining and well written if you want to check it out
Everyone loves the Warrior Heir, but I think most people read it as a kid (at least I did), I think it ages really well for many who read it as a kid because it doesn’t have any particularly cheesy tropes. I finished the series as an adult, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be as entertaining without nostalgia if you don’t fit the age range as far as actually getting invested into a new series goes
Spin the Dawn isn’t a true Mulan retelling. The main character does dress as a man in order to become a master tailor but that’s where the similarities end. I enjoyed it but if you’re on the fence I think it’s safe to pass on.
If you want a real dark, heavy siren book I might recommend the Lost Voices trilogy by Sarah Porter It still has my favorite mermaid lore (of the more "human" sort, so not including Into The Drowning Deep), it's about teen girls who transform into mermaids because of trauma. So it's super, super dark and honestly upsetting at some points, but really good. And ofc part of being a mermaid is they use their voices to sink ships. I have some problems with the books, like the main love subplot is god awful, but it's still one of my favorite mermaid/siren series I've found. And the first couple of books are set in Alaska where I grew up, which is a plus for me.
I also got multiple unsolicited copies of Smoke & Summons and I'm not interested in it at all! I don't understand why they sent me one in the first place, much less two! Lol! Continued watching and there were seven more books that were also sent to me unsolicited! I feel like there's a good discussion that could be done on unsolicited books and the wastefulness of it.
Tiny Book Dragon , it's either a corporation or rich person trying to get there super creativeness out there to bless everybody. Or just mismanagement somewhere along the chain..
I remember loving The Warrior Heir series! I flew through the books! That being said, it was about eight years ago and it would probably read a little young for me now.
omg those bookswapping credits are a great idea. ive been thinking about how to sell my unhauled books for fair price so ill be able to buy myself the books i actually wanna own and it seems a good idea to do.
The Traitor prince is only a companion that’s not a series. I liked the second one the most! More than the first one! It’s a companion series all retellings of fairytales each following different characters with little insignificant nods to the other books because the kingdoms are part of one world ☺️ you don’t need to keep them of course ^^ I just wanted to clarify 🙈
The Traitor Prince and The Wish Granter are part of a series, but it’s one of those series where you can read any of the books without the other. It’s a series of companion standalone fairytale retellings.
Not sure if you donated already but Stronger, Faster, and more Beautiful is actually really good. It’s a collection of sci-fi short stories that are all connected. Each one gets farther and farther into the future and some of the characters connect. Also Spin the Dawn I read because of the cover and I love project runway. Probably one of my most disappointing books of the year thanks to the real heavy insta-love. 😢
When feeling guilty about particular books in a unhaul: Check to see if your local library has them, or check free browser book websites like openlibrary.org. that way if you get around to where you'd like to read it, you have the option.
There are so many books on there that I still want to read but I think you've made the right choices. I personally love the foxhole court but I don't think you would enjoy it. And damn those publishers 😂
Bookoutlet. I spent like 500 dollars over a few months when I discovered bookoutlet and now I have so many books and honestly, I probably won’t ever read some of them 😳
Yeah. I'm stuck with about 30 books myself in dnf and finished but don't wanna keep pile. Don't know what to do. No local library or second hand book store with decent exchanges. Waiting for bookchor. Which is a massive event where you pay for the box and you get to stuff it with as many books as you can. They also buy books. So probably will give it there
I love dark siren books too! Three on my TBR you may be interested in are Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant, Ice Massacre by Tiana Warner and The Deep by Rivers Solomon (out Nov 5). Nice unhaul :)
I liked a lot Spin The Dawn but I don't consider it Mulan retelling. It's more like inspired because a lot happen during the narrative and I think the rest of tales are Chinese tales inspired. They are very interested and for me made the story different, lot more interesting than what the publisher pitched :)
The original 1001 Nights (AKA Arabian Nights) tales are pretty huge. Around ten to twelve volumes 800 pages each. There's some abridged versions in one to three volumes around 600 to 800 pages each but the unabridged version is huge. I managed to get through roughly a third of the Richard Burton unabridged translation before I DNF'd it... They were a bit too much racist and sexist for my taste
Hi Merphy, i was just wondering what you don't like about anthology, it would also be great if you could please clarify the difference between anthology and a short story collection. Thanks.
Yes, I agree with other folks about the woman in cabin 10, main character was so stupid lol. Also, you’re not missing anything with spin the dawn. It’s super mediocre.
I really wanted to like The Conspiracy of Us but only got about 100 pages in. I DNF'd it and am bummed because I really thought I was going to like it. Also, I love your shirt in this video!
Okaay that's like an amazing thumbnail, also I totally agree with the whole reading taste got evolved so I definitely won't read those books now (which I think happens after every great Sanderson, Jordan, Backman level of standard as a goto) , I mostly read ebooks and buy books that I loved and will reread and like to pass on...
I read Spin the Dawn, I didn't like it much because the Mulan retelling part ends in first 30% of the book and the rest all is romance. I just want you know that.
Omfg! I bought the woman in cabin ten. Read about fifty pages. Thought the main character was kinda dumb. Put it down with the intention of going back eventually. Might just pass on it now.
Quite liked Into the Water, a literate, literary thriller full of deep dives into character. It's not slam bang pulp, so people balked. Typical situation when the marketing promises something the book is not.
Woman in Cabin 10 has a normal protagonist, instead of a young Miss Marple. She's not stupid, she's just not Sherlock Holme's Smarter Sister. Anthologies were where I found writers whose work compelled me. Finding good short stories by new names led me to explore those writers' work, so I think of them as a sampler. As to themed anthologies, meh. They're marketing bullying writing.
Red queen is great, rest of the series isn't for me though. I like the unexpectedness of book 1 but sadly i felt that the rest of the series lacked that. Also the magic system is way too soft for me, i felt it was softer than Harry Potter. Oh let me just cast some lightning (poof you die, poof solve this), and now there is teleporting, "i can see the future-magic" and big magic shields. Will probably reread book 1 for the ride of it, but rest of the series is only taking space on my shelf because i like the aesthetics and want "completion" on my shelf.
Kaitlyn Igoe mhm, i loved the idea of book 3, I thought it would be psychological and interesting but I felt that the concept was poorly executed. Book 2 was a slog for me too, it felt so repetitive. I have book 4 and will probably read it for completion but it’s not high on my tbr.
I just cannot get rid of books. I still have the ones I had to read in school. Even the ones I hated, like Faust, and Faust is a moron who ruins his life because he isn't satisfied with what he has, even though he's actually pretty well of... Still keeping the book. Lol. Thank goodness for ebooks and audiobooks, otherwise I would have run out of space years ago.
Our local used book store doesn't buy from customers, but their prices are cheap. 321 Books Hardcovers are $3 Paperbacks are $2 Mass Market are $1 And special editions range in price.

I still haven't read the last book in th Raven Cycle, I loved the 1st book, enjoyed the other 2 but definitely not as much as the first. Didn't love Divergent so I dodn't continue, I had seen the movie and felt that I didn't gain anything by reading it. That being said, I've read her other books.
Pretty sure traitor prince is in an "independant" series. I hate when they do this. I'm kinda interested in Traitor Prince but not book 1-2 and even if I Know I can read it without the other two I can't my brain woN,t let me ahhaha

I tried to watch this but the white noise from the microphone was making me feel ill. I’ve never had this reaction before to that noise but I thought I should let you know.
Welcome to "Watching people's unhauls to add things to my TBR" episode 34 😂
Ikr ?
Ikr?
🤣😅
Omg i feel this on a whole other level 😂😂
Truth
You could add in your description, right after your PO box address that you don't accept unsolicited books by publishers.

The problem is she has already probably been added into a database by some intern so it likely wouldn't do any good.
If you live in a smaller area, the highschool/middle school may take donations for their libraries.
The Fault in Our Stars had "OK" to express love.
Merph has "OK" as a way to say hi to us 😍🤓
Maybe OK will be our hello.
@@evies.1018 I Love this lol
Library donation feels great. I live in a small town and all of my unhaul books go straight there. Many people will get to enjoy them that way.

Oh, give Spin the Dawn a chance! Saying that it's a Mulan retelling is a disservice to the story...that section ends quickly and you move onto an epic quest for mythological materials!
Literally reading it right now
I feel like you should try the Mulan retelling since that one gave you a bit of pause. That's so many books to give away!
Thats super interested that there was so many people didn't love The Woman In Cabin 10....i had totally loved that book. But to each their own! Always nice to clear out some shelf space!
same!
You are honestly SO GORGEOUS and have such a fun personality! I really enjoy you and your content ❤️
European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman?! I love that book! The first book, The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter, is fun too! It’s a great homage to Victorian Gothic classics!

I also didn't enjoy the 4th and 5th book of vampire academy but the last book really saved it for me
if an author reaches out to you directly, would you consider reading their work? (I'm not published yet... but one day I hope you'd read my novel >_
That is an interesting question *grabs popcorn*
I believe she does, if she believes she will like the book from the synopsis??
I think she's said before that if she likes the synopsis she'll read it! But idk if she'll rate/review it.
I think she has a own video in which she recommendes self-published books and explains how she got the books and her rating on those
Does that mean you’re looking for beta readers?

"Booktube Trinity" 😁 I like it. I'm assuming D Greene, Merph, and Eliott Brooks?

Yes, more space on the bookshelf
😂. I love your reasoning...Thanks for donating to your library.
I read Smoke and Summons. It was alright. Not great, but not terrible. I think I gave it 3 stars.
Yeah I got it free with amazon first reads and was pleasantly surprised by it - I plan on picking up the sequels at some point.
The Warrior Heir is the doorway to a pretty good YA series. I just finished the Dragon Heir and will soon start the Enchanter Heir.
Honestly, I would have unhauled everything in that pile too. Woo-hoo for more room on the bookshelves!!!
Spin the Dawn was NOT a Mulan retelling. If anything it resembled Howl’s Moving Castle and Project Runway
That sounds amazing to me xD
If you want a real dark, heavy siren book I might recommend the Lost Voices trilogy by Sarah Porter
