Keeping your first wild strain? Me too! Here I share some tips and tricks I have learned to help them grow and thrive.
Overview: Originating in Northeastern Brazil in the Manacapuru River. Like most species from this area Manacapuru Angels will appreciate soft more acidic water with warmer temperatures. The Manacapuru river system is a black water habitat with leaf litter and over hanging plants and trees on the margins.

Details-
✔ Size When Mature: 9-11 + inches in height
✔Feeding: Feed well rounded diet with a balance of high quality proteins and veggie content. High quality color enhancing food in your rotation. Be careful to not over feed to avoid bloat. Feed young Angel fish frequent small meals.
✔PH: 6.0 - 6.8 (my water is right about 6.5-6.8 and stable)
✔ZERO - ammonia, nitrites and keep nitrates low. Keep up with water changes and filter maintenance
✔Mineral content: Soft water, my water is extremely soft GH/KH are around 40 ppm.
✔Temperature: I keep my manacapurus at 81F
✔Behavior: So far they have been peaceful, but they are young yet! The Manacapurus are reported to be less aggressive then many other angelfish types.
✔Water flow: They come from a river so some flow, but Angels as a rule cannot handle too much flow. Low to moderate areas should work for adult Angels.
✔Tank set up: Some driftwood, small and large, tangles of riparium plant roots, plantings and floating plants will make this fish feel comfortable and color up better
✔Tannins: YES put botanicals in your tank, they come from a black water system.
✔Tank Size: These are big - tall fish. The best tank for them will be a 24" tall tank. I will be putting 6 into a 24" tall 66 gallon.
