ALTUM - ANGELS [1]

  • Altum Angels - the Premier League of aquarium life! They only inhabit a small area, only a few rivers through the jungle - along the border between Columbia and Venezuela ...
Black water! Its colouring reminds you of tea and is caused by the silicates of the river bed. When black water is flooded with sunlight there is only one colour beneath the surface: Red! Depending on the depth - from orange to ruby-red - glittering fireworks!
And now we have found them: Altum-Angels!

What a honor to be allowed to fish those waters unaccompanied!!!! They just don't let anyone go out there fishing!!!!!

Captive breeding has already developed a lot, in Brazil it is not catch, it is cheaper to breed it than to transport it from within the Amazon!

If you knew any better... you would know that it's pollution and habitat loss that is threatening ALL species in the Amazon!!!!! I believe altums discus Cardinal tetra and several others are not only commercially bred and farmed in Peru and abroad but heavily regulated by the natives in and around Columbia waters and so on!!!!! Illegal gold miners are literally poisoning our precious Amazon and fishing is the least concern!!!!?

      @Johny350JJ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

i disagree! people hunt them and cook them, poisom their enviroment, cut down trees in junge etc... only way of saving them is to tell fisherman that if they dont cook them and dont destroy their enviroment, they can sell them for lot of money and buy lot of food and they can eat better then by cooking them. if they protect their enviroment, fish will breed and produce new fish for them to sell and people can live just out of selling them for generations and dont need to cut down trees from forest and cook fish. There is possibility that they catch all of them if the demand is high and they dont let the fish to reproduce first, thats why people in this video catch those fish to breed and sell them in europe. Tell me again, do you still think is it better to not catch them?

I think Altums do not breed in tanks and therefore, have to be catched in the wild... but if there are a lot of tanklovers with Altums, will there be enough fish left in the wild to garantuee the species in the future ? (to be clear : I'm talking about Pt. Altums and not Pt. Scalares, which can be bred in tanks).

Beautiful fish are the Altum Angels. I keep Angels, but wish I could keep the Altum ones. Thanks for making this video and letting us see where these gorgeous fish come from, and especially seeing them in their natural habitat.

    Hello Fernando.
It is true, our expedition was - as always - of Venezuela (Puerto
    Ayacucho) from.
The shots with the Altum-Angels created but on the Colombian side.
We had several days in the border area.
If we are back in Venezuela (maybe February 2014?), I say you know in
    advance.
    Maybe we do something together?
    Best regards, Andreas

When I was a kid, during the 80's, I used to study about the Angels. I knew about the Altums from drawings, not even pictures. I've seen P. leopoldi, besides P. scalare, but never saw an Altum at the store where I live yet. I'm always looking for videos here and there. This video is great! I wonder why most hobbyists don't try to reproduce the color of the water, so the fish could feel more comfortable in the tanks. What would be the pH recommended? About 6.5? Temperature of 30-32°C? Very nice! Thanks for sharing!

Inspiring brilliant video!!! I have bought 14 Altums that didn't come from this river, but the Inirida. They are doing really well! Does anybody know what other fish species come from the rio Inirida? (Teras, dwarf cichilids etc) as I want some small peaceful tankmates for them that they would know from the wild (rio Irinida biotope) Thanks!

      Hi Jack,
      thanks for your kind comment!
I recommend for you this fish species:
Mesonauta insignis, Satanoperca daemon, Chalceus macrolepidotus, Moenkhausia pittieri.
All these species of fish are in front of the basin of the Rio Atabapo / Rio Inirida.
I hope I could help you!
