My favorite chalice dungeon enemy behavior is when a bloodsucker appears in a room you previously cleared, sucking on a corpse. It's a clever reuse of assets, it fits with the worldbuilding, and it makes the backtracking feel special.
It actually only ever happens when you kill an enemy with a riposte. And it's random on whether bloodsuckers will appear sucking blood of enemies you reposted or not. (Edit): also in order for the bloodsuckers to spawn, you have to leave the room and walk back which basically unloads and reloads the room.
@@Boc_theSeamsterAre you 100% sure? Cuzz I play Rakyou on the dagger and sabre style most of the time and my off hand is flamer so I cant really parry but I still had some bloodsuckers appear in most of my runs, idk why that might be cuz your theory seems pretty much solid

I always found it interesting how the chalice dungeons feature enemies that leaned more towards dark medieval fantasy rather than what we find in the main game. It's also cool the see the many itteration of FromSoft enemies. A good number of those we see in the video can be linked back to some dark souls enemies, while some others like the Blood Letting Beast has a lot of similarities to the Guardian Ape in Sekiro.
I'm fairly certain (though it could just be a rumor) that in alpha builds, the Chalice Dungeons were originally conceived as the remains of Boletaria from Demon's Souls. In the current game you can even spot some corpses wearing the Fluted Set
I'm fascinated by the fact so many enemies are super hidden, have practically no lore, and only appear a handful of time, in completely optional randomized levels. That alone makes Bloodborne legendary.

4:21 the more i look at this design the more fascinated i am. whoever made this had a deep knowledge of zoology and a very, very twisted mind. namely, the design incorporates many different animals in harmony- firstly the sea cucumber, its body shape and the tentacle like protrusions are a clear lookalike. the way it just sits around exposed sideways on the floor is kind of unusual but is also characteristic of the sea cucumber. sea cucumbers are also unusual in that they dont have an exoskeleton of any type, just a somewhat leathery exterior, high toxicity, and the ability to shoot out their guts like our friend. secondly a type of polychaete, possibly the blood worm, a variation on a very common and ancient body plan of a worm-like ambush predator that digs its way butt-first into the seabed, something that would match the title “hole digger”. some polychaetes that do this, such as the blood worm or bobbitt worm, have the ability to protrude its mouth quite far outwards in order to grab and eat large prey. these animals also sometimes secrete a lot of mucus for their burrows so are quite slimy, like our fellow here. thirdly, a tetrapod. the sprawling gait of the creature is very similar to crocodiles that perform the same niche as tetrapods, and possessed the ability to walk backwards fast, sometimes just as quickly as forwards, something that matches this guy. like many amphibians, they also had no external bone plating and were slimy. additionally, the animal is shown to have more than 5 digits, something very rare in the animal kingdom but was known to occur frequently in tetrapods prior to the carboniferous period. also, im not so sure about this one, but both of the clips here show the hole digger in a tunnel near the water’s edge with their mouth pointing towards the water, and on an incline, a possible reference to the way the tetrapods adapted to life on on land and grabbed prey in the edge of the water to drag up onto land. some ancient tetrapods also adapted to digging burrows which would be another equivalency between tetrapods and this creature’s fat, mole-like body, short legs and presence in a burrow and last but not least, of course like all fromsoft monstrosities, the thing was originally human, and has some of the regular features like having internal bones and fleshy skin (like our other animals on this list), a horrifically realistic spine, arms with human proportioned elbow and shoulder joints, and for its mouth that everts similarly to the bloodworm mentioned earlier, it has a prolapsing anus. the way that this creature swaps its head and anus ends at will further meshes the tetrapod back-and-forwards movement style with the way it looks when a blood worm (and a human anus, for that matter) everts and then sucks back in its mouth which is much thicker than the width of the worm’s actual head opening. this also kinda has some similarities with how the sea cucumbers spew out their guts, and how the worms dig backwards. anyways ive been staring at this ugly thing for way too long. thanks for reading and keep supporting fromsoft devs because their creativity really is something else sometimes 👍

Beast-possessed Soul and Abhorrent Beast can both be found outside the chalice dungeons. Beast-possessed Soul resides at the base of the Cathedral Ward Tower, below the real workshop banging on a door with their back to you. Abhorrent Beast is the true form of the man in the clockwork tower that houses the cannon in the Forbidden Woods.
The funniest enemy "actually not showcased here" is that one guy hidden in hintertomb that is an amalgamation of the hooded guys and the normal guys and dies in one hit for some reason.... Also chalice have the best fromsoft slimes cause they actually have a fun moveset as opposed to just being a walking gel sponge with one attack Lastly the giants... The 2 cannon giants in the poison swamp... I remember screaming a bit when i saw that sight As for bosses the bloodletting beast is an amazing fight in both of its versions and of course who can forget the watchdog... We all love and hate that puppy its 2nd encounter is a git gud momment and i lover it Also pthumerian elders are such a cool concept i wish they do a similar fight but a but more polished like you know more moves cause he really has a limited moveset despite the fact he can wield so many fire weapons Lastly queen of yharnam is such a great fight with so many phases "the most phases in the entire Bloodborne" if you never done chalices do it for the queen she is worth the time
@@altarf2582 i know but the elders have their whole teleporting around thingy which is what I wanna see, a guy constantly teleporting around and summoning different weapons with each teleport it's such a great concept but well as I said their moveset are limited so it gets predictable... Imagine if they had morgots moveset how scary they would be your heart would clench at every teleport which fits Bloodborne perfectly
One of my favorite things about bloodborne is how a ton of the enemies you can see that they were human once. It really adds to the horror in a more subtle way since you constantly hear about how people are turning to beasts and see it obviously early on with the yarhnamites but then you see something like the scorpion or the hole digger which still has these very human attributes and see just how horrifying the beast plague really is. Genuinely think bloodborne has one of the worst worlds to live in purely because of the off chance of catching the beast plague. Plus the fact that anyone can be trapped in the hunters dream seemingly unwillingly in a lot of cases
Bloodborne probably has the most visceral looking enemies in a non-horror game I’ve ever seen. The lovecraftian inspired designs, the bloodthirsty beasts, everything about this game is so cool. I’m honestly disappointed that Fromsoft doesn’t seem to acknowledge the want for a sequel, or even a remaster.
Yes and no. Like all Bloodborne dogs, you can knock 'em down with a gunshot, and get a few free hits in. The trick is to separate them from each other, and from their master. Dealing with all three at once is a bad idea. You gotta throw a knife or a pebble or something to lure 'em one at a time.
Amazing. I was thinking about this exact topic a few days ago, wondering just how much i missed by noy throughly going through the CD. And here ypu are w this amazing video! Perfect timing and thank you! Only wish i would have gotten some explanations w the enemies but thats just me being greedy.

I get a strong Omen feeling when seeing the horns petrude from these enemies, and the fire inside the watcher and watch dog. Makes you wonder if this game shares elements with the omen curse and lords of cinder in the hidden lore
Yep it's the only place it shows up outside of the chalice dungeons. One of the only enemies from said dungeons yo make an appearance outside of them. Pretty cool!
You can actually find regular mobs of the pthumerian elder/descendant just roaming around in root chalice dungeons. I found that out by complete accident, I about pissed myself because I saw it at a distance and was confused about what it even was until I got closer. I never bolted out of a treasure cache so fast before.
I been telling players on the Discord that they are missing out on half the game by not doing dungeons. More proof here with your video. Thank you for your labor. Peace
Tfw those giant naked mole rats have brains for jaws, meaning they were human once and this is what they "ascended" to Mfw this is what we ascend to at the end of the game
Since the undead giants appear to be made of stitched together body parts, I wonder if they are related in some way to The One Reborn. Both are amalgamations of body parts, and both are related to the Pthumerians. Perhaps undead giants were an early attempt to ascend?
I always liked how one of the dungeon hunter summons, Queen Killer, has two meanings in his name. One from the fact he’s in the Pthumerian Queen’s domain and the other from his Executioner’s helmet given to those who oppose the Vileblood Queen
I don't mean to be petty but just as an FYI to people who are wondering/don't know, one Beast-possessed Soul and one Abhorrent Beast can be found outside of the chalice dungeons. Great video as always.
I’m surprised we haven’t seen these enemies reused in later games, the loran cleric without the fur would fit perfectly in Shadow of the Erdtree for example
I don't want to nitpick, but I do feel the urge to point out that the Beast-Possessed Soul and the Abhorrent Beast do in fact appear outside of Chalice Dungeons. Admittedly it's somewhat easy to miss them, and they don't respawn when killed, but they're there all the same.
The models in bloodborne are so detailed and complicated, it's amazing, these are the kinds of things I'd expect to see on a ps5 game, but this game was released in 2015!
Does anyone else have the feeling that the Chalice dungeons were a way to reuse already made enemies from an earlier build of the game's life cycle? It would explain why they seem to fleshed out and relatively complete.
i love the video my favorite one is the keeper hunting dogs and the other two dogs besides hunting and rapid dog and including the silver variant in the chalice dungeons
I’m sure dozens of others have already mentioned this but you can find a Beast-possessed Soul and Abhorrent Beast outside the Chalice Dungeons. (Technically Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen as well, but she arguably doesn’t count since she can’t be fought)
Theory (though I don't know if anyone has postulated this before): The Loran Cleric and the Beast-Possesed Soul are both from Loran and have interesting lore implications on how the Loran viewed the Beast Plague. So first of all, I posit that both are related due to having very similar ram-like horns and both appearing in the Loran Chalice Dungeons. So what are the implications? I posit that similar to the Healing Church, the Loran had a priesthood/religious element when it came to the Old Blood. However, unlike the Healing Church and their predecessors the scholars of Byrgenwerth who viewed the Beast Plague from a somewhat scientific viewpoint and medicalized the Beast Plague the ancient Loran viewed it as a matter of demonic position. Hence the moniker of "Beast-Possesed Soul" rather than Beast Plagued or infected. I further theorize that the Loran clerics acted in a similar role to the Beast Hunters who rather than hunt attempted to exorcise the Beast "Spirit" from their countrymen. And like the Beast Hunters became Beast themselves over time.
Beast-Possessed Soul, the werewolf with horns, actually appear in the normal game, on the alternative path to the Cathedral Ward through the Lower Cathedral Ward.
OK the hole diggers.... WHAT? I've never seen these. And the pilgrim i saw ONCE after about 40 hours in the chalice dungeons. I was so taken aback when i saw it.
29:55 You can see a bloody spike drive itself through Queen Yharnam's back whenever she stabs herself with the knife. It goes right through the opposite side of her belly. Very disturbing and sad imagery given that she is, or was, pregnant. Just another torment for her.
While I agree with the sentiment, I think that's actually the spike that would normally appear to attack the player, but because it's being viewed in isolation in whatever software this is, it's just appearing at the same position as the queen herself
Beast possessed soul can be found in Yharnam guarding the shortcut to Vicar Amelia Abhorrent beast can be the beggar Side note: Labyrinth madman is my favorite i love that ennemy, very memorable first encounter Man what a video, so enjoyable thank you

I'm fascinated by the fact that the Loran cleric has the face of a Japanese Oni. With the wicked open smile and hollow evil eye sockets and teeth
8:46 I didn't initially realize those were horns, so I thought I was looking at a Greaser Werewolf, and had a real "wooooow" moment
I had NO idea that the scorpion was so horrific. Possibly the most horrific.
Edit: Rite Keeper
Beast-possessed Soul and Abhorrent Beast can both be found outside the chalice dungeons.
Beast-possessed Soul resides at the base of the Cathedral Ward Tower, below the real workshop banging on a door with their back to you.
Abhorrent Beast is the true form of the man in the clockwork tower that houses the cannon in the Forbidden Woods.
I'm side-eyeing the hell out of that Loran Cleric and the shape of his staff...
Starting think why Bloodborne is my favorite is because every enemy is its own horrific nightmare.
Awww the gravekeeper is such a good momma keeping her babies on her back.
The funniest enemy "actually not showcased here" is that one guy hidden in hintertomb that is an amalgamation of the hooded guys and the normal guys and dies in one hit for some reason....
Also chalice have the best fromsoft slimes cause they actually have a fun moveset as opposed to just being a walking gel sponge with one attack
Lastly the giants... The 2 cannon giants in the poison swamp... I remember screaming a bit when i saw that sight
As for bosses the bloodletting beast is an amazing fight in both of its versions and of course who can forget the watchdog... We all love and hate that puppy its 2nd encounter is a git gud momment and i lover it
Also pthumerian elders are such a cool concept i wish they do a similar fight but a but more polished like you know more moves cause he really has a limited moveset despite the fact he can wield so many fire weapons
Lastly queen of yharnam is such a great fight with so many phases "the most phases in the entire Bloodborne" if you never done chalices do it for the queen she is worth the time
Morgott is basically the successor to Pthumerian Elder, and yeah the slimes in BB feel more like slimes than Aldrich
@@altarf2582 i know but the elders have their whole teleporting around thingy which is what I wanna see, a guy constantly teleporting around and summoning different weapons with each teleport it's such a great concept but well as I said their moveset are limited so it gets predictable... Imagine if they had morgots moveset how scary they would be your heart would clench at every teleport which fits Bloodborne perfectly
the beast possessed soul appears in the main game, before the Hunter's workshop
Same for the Abhorrent Beast, as the Suspicious Beggar transforms into one when provoked
But the annoying pig boss got left out.
For some reason I EXTREMELY love the Beast-Possessed Soul so freakin cool
That enemy's running animation is peak horror comedy 21:31 at 21:47
One of my favorite things about bloodborne is how a ton of the enemies you can see that they were human once.
The keepers dogs are probably the most difficult dog type enemy in any fromsoft game
I just wanted to say: Your videos are really great and interesting. I think you and your videos are an important part of the Souls community. Please never stop making such great videos of character models and concept art. You have a great channel and deserve every single like. Therefore - as always - a big thumbs up. 👍👍
I get a strong Omen feeling when seeing the horns petrude from these enemies, and the fire inside the watcher and watch dog. Makes you wonder if this game shares elements with the omen curse and lords of cinder in the hidden lore
I thought the Beast-Possessed Soul was also in the base game? At the bottom of the Healing Workshop tower thing. Anyway, great video BonfireVN! 😊
yes
Yep it's the only place it shows up outside of the chalice dungeons. One of the only enemies from said dungeons yo make an appearance outside of them. Pretty cool!
Abhorrent beast appears outside as well.
I can't take him seriously cause he looks like Goofy way too much 😂😂
You can actually find regular mobs of the pthumerian elder/descendant just roaming around in root chalice dungeons.
Peace
Tfw those giant naked mole rats have brains for jaws, meaning they were human once and this is what they "ascended" to
Mfw this is what we ascend to at the end of the game
Since the undead giants appear to be made of stitched together body parts, I wonder if they are related in some way to The One Reborn. Both are amalgamations of body parts, and both are related to the Pthumerians. Perhaps undead giants were an early attempt to ascend?
I always liked how one of the dungeon hunter summons, Queen Killer, has two meanings in his name. One from the fact he’s in the Pthumerian Queen’s domain and the other from his Executioner’s helmet given to those who oppose the Vileblood Queen
Wow very impressive underground ecosystem👁️👁️👁️
Bloodborne truly had some random horror creatures you see only handful of times.
I don't mean to be petty but just as an FYI to people who are wondering/don't know, one Beast-possessed Soul and one Abhorrent Beast can be found outside of the chalice dungeons. Great video as always.
15:05 GYATT!!!
Bloodborne was the peak of the Soulsborne franchise.
They certainly nailed the horror theme with these monsters. I could imagine these Eldrich abominations in Lovecraft or Stephen King stories.
Can you please continue doing this for other elements/parts of Bloodborne, I’m so used to seeing it in 720p so this is a treat
Bonfire no Maiku delivering good content
20:49 it's all fun and games until it decides to go full wrecking-ball mode, and rolls all over the dungeons at neckbreacking speed.
I still play this game doing random Chalice dungeons to this day. Love this game
25:35 通称、彼氏持ち貞子
In Japan, they called “Sadako with her husband”.
20:40 I found it. A being that has a number of chins that surpass my mother.
I must congratulate you for that is a truly difficult task
I have played the FRICK out of bloodborne and had NO idea that hole diggers even existed. WHAT
24:38 what we all were waiting for
Does anyone else have the feeling that the Chalice dungeons were a way to reuse already made enemies from an earlier build of the game's life cycle? It would explain why they seem to fleshed out and relatively complete.
i love the video my favorite one is the keeper hunting dogs and the other two dogs besides hunting and rapid dog and including the silver variant in the chalice dungeons
I’m sure dozens of others have already mentioned this but you can find a Beast-possessed Soul and Abhorrent Beast outside the Chalice Dungeons. (Technically Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen as well, but she arguably doesn’t count since she can’t be fought)
BonfireVN, I love your channel so much, I just had to subscribe!
19:35 Jerma...
Never realized that abhorrent beast has 2 tails... you cannot see that in the official artbook. I love this kind of content 🔥👍🌌
Absolute godtier showcase. The chalice dungeons are still so fascinating
I love those enemies. They're such fun to play against.
I wish there was npc fights of the Pthumerian bosses...
20:20 holy shit fear and hunger
labyrinth madman is genuinely the creepiest enemy
3:27
Do not hurt blobby thing
Beast possessed soul can be found in Yharnam guarding the shortcut to Vicar Amelia
Abhorrent beast can be the beggar
Side note: Labyrinth madman is my favorite i love that ennemy, very memorable first encounter
Man what a video, so enjoyable thank you
14:41 you vs the guy she told you not to worry about
23:54 I can’t get over how sad that expression is
24:45 seeing this enemy sprint at me with full speed is always nerve wracking, no matter how well prepared I thought I was..
The tomb guardian has some cheeks ong
Could you do one like this for the weapons of Bloodborne? Maybe even show in slow motion how they mechanically transform. I think that be cool to see.
I remember the first time I played through Bloodborne I didn't even realize there were Chalice Dungeons. I was so confused why the game that felt so small was praised si high by everyone. Then I found out there was a roguelite built into it and I was like "oh"
Is it possible that Loran was a foreshadowing reference to Belurat and the hornsent?
Really wish the Abhorrent Beast was a fully-fledged boss in the main game instead of just an NPC-miniboss. One of the few CD bosses that's on genuinely on-par with the best fights in the main game and easily one of the fucking coolest designs overall..
3:30 that must be Half-Life bullsquid's cousin. The resemblance is uncanny!
12:05
“Hey I can almost see straight down the barrel “
New Vegas kid reference?
21:48 me in my 80s going to walmart shopping
You can see the beast possessed soul at the bottom of the Workshop Tower
I know people say BB is a complete game on its own story wise and doesn't need sequel... But goddamn i really wish From would make another game like this. It had the best gameplay, enemy designs, atmosphere and i really wish they'd go back and expand on it
21:36 must be playing a stealth game
