Hello & welcome to a new episode. In this week's episode we head to a very famous drag Race track, Located near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, England, Shakespeare County Raceway became a permanent drag racing facility in 1980 when it was known as 'Long Marston Raceway'.
Situated on the former RAF Long Marston station which became Long Marston Airfield, drag racing events occurred on the site sporadically since the early 1970s.
In 1990 the track became known as 'Avon Park Raceway', advertised as "Spectacular drag racing for cars and bikes at the fastest track outside the USA. In 2008 it finally became Shakespeare County Raceway Ltd.
SCR is generally considered to be Britain's 'second' dragstrip after Santa Pod Raceway.
In late 2017, planning applications were submitted by Cala to build initially 400 homes on the site, followed eventually by a further 3,100 to be known as Marston Mead Garden Village,
Local newspaper Stratford Herald reported in December 2017 that a Stratford local council document established that potentially up to £100 million funding from the developer Cala would need to be assured, to be invested widely into infrastructure improvements, including roads, public transport, schools and doctors' surgeries.
Their official website now states the raceway closed in 2018. Thanks so much for taking the time out to watch my video.. If you like what you see, please consider subscribing. Thanks as always for watching, All the best, Stokze...

"bulldog bash" .... and another memory re-kindled.
I rode there from North Wales on a BSA A10 with a sidecar I made myself from an ex-fairground ride. A chrome-nosed rocket.
My memory is fading much faster than I'd like, but this video and your comment brought a little of it back for a while.
      Thanks for that.

    Thank you for this.
We used to live on the airfield for a few years, Me and my brother were in our teens and often helped on the farm and my dad was the caretaker.
Sylvia Hauser and Henk Vink were brilliant when they came for the drag racing and always had time for us. Henk let me sit on his rocket bike.
They didn’t just have drag racing there, they also had bikes and banger racing.
There was also a glider club which is what I suspect you found a glider and not a plane. Also a micro lite club. They used to hold all kinds of events inc an air show where a B17 landed and disabled itself on landing, luckily the army base nearby helped them to fix it.
For those of you old enough to remember Crossroads with Benny and Miss Diane, this was the location they used for the burning of the Motel

im 14 atm and i raced for the first time at this track in 2016 in my 1934 ford tot rod ( gloss black with green gtr decals and fake blower) shakespeare was my favourite track because of the more laid back atmosphere from santapod and coming to this track since 3 years old spraked my obsession with american cars and anything fast. also there is an old ww2 plane ( not quite sure what plane) with shark teeth painted on if you do some more exploring i would love to see you find it. if you go back, thankyou for bringing back some good memories.

My Wife and I used to go to the drag racing there many years ago and I was also a member of the model flying club at the same place. I remember some of the people from London that bought up homes as holiday homes in the local village complained about everything and is was bound to close in the end such a shame to see such a great venue gone to ruin.

Miss that place soo much, had some great weekends there- my lad when asked what he wanted to do for his 21st birthday said shakey - for the weekend.
It was called long marston & Shakespeare county raceway & avonpark raceway during its time open, now just going to be housing- can’t wait till they start excavating the bank on the walled side of the strip - boy are they going to be in for some surprises - all sorts got buried in there ! That’s where Eddie Kidd got so badly damaged jumping the track. Another great video stu 👍

Fantastic video and thank you for bringing back lots of happy memories of this place. I thought it had all been demolished for the housing estate as thats all that can be seen from the road. Me and my son loved going there, as we only live 10 miles away. Great day out and it kept the Mrs happy as it wasn't expensive either. In fact the most expensive part was buying burgers for us both!!! Shame about the 3 vans, the Renault is based on a dodge, in fact British telecom had the 4 x4 version with lower head lights as the cab was alot higher. At the original entrance there were a collection of planes (one was a twin engined transport plane) when it was a drag strip with a Sunday Market alongside. Also being a lorry driver I've been at the site next door ( which is very much still running) having a warehouse on the left of my truck with train tracks and railway carriages on my right was a bit weird as that whole area used to be a rail Marshaling yard. Thanks again.

Fascinating finds, that poor old V8 Ford,at least it is under cover. I remember the Dodge badged as Renault, used to be popular with utility companies.the aircraft in the trailer is a glider, while that's a micro light in the hanger. Some of them used a subaru flat4 or an old VW .

Wow takes me back to 1984 camping. The drag race was amazing the noise was incredible. I remember the beer tent lots of cider and some bloke climbed up the centre pole got on the roof of the marquee and literally brought the house down. We were all trapped under it🤣 the outlaws did the marshalling and security so we all had to run for it🤣🤣🤣 oh the good ol'days of cleaning your teeth with cider🤣

I used to regularly go to the Bulldog Bash held there annually in August, you could ride your bike down the strip in the 'Run What ya Brung' drag events, I ran my Suzuki Katana 1100 down there a few time!
Eddie Kidd the motorbike stunt rider had his life changing accident there, jumping the strip near the stands.
It didn't go well landing on the upward sloping bank, he hit hard and ended up in a wheelchair.😔

The 205 drag car is Bob Mouldens from Yorkshire and has had it since they were first out. About 30 mts up the strip past the end of the wall is where Eddie Kidd had his accident as he jumped over the drag strip and landed on the upward bankside and put him out of action of been a stunt rider. Very sad for Eddie.

Didnt expect to find an abandoned UK dragstrip. Very interesting.
I still miss the old Detroit Dragway. I raced there one month before their last race and was closed forever...and now a bunch of warehouse storage buildings.
I was at Detroit dragway far back as 1975 and remember seeing the Raymond Beatle Blue Max funny car among others. At single digit age i used to love standing near the zoomies during warmup in the dirt pit area. Looking back i realize when they switched to nitro from alcohol when the idle started shooting flames even in daylight. Probably has alot to do with my hearing loss now.

Raced my Escort estate here in the mid-80s. My lasting memories are of using the row of old-fashioned metal Elsans for my morning clear out and having to clean off the gravel that the slicks picked up on the return road.
