    SL600Si was my beginning audiophile journey.I like female vocal from loud to sudden whisper level, from rebecca pidgeon,My grandma hand,that emotions I can't find in others speakers.For percussion at dynamic level will always give you a sudden lightning attack! Unfortunately I sold it, thinking a new speakers can also do it, but in end can't.I think one day,I will own it again!

    Brilliant video as always Kevin, Think I still prefer the ProAc Studios for their nice clear detail. I will be very interested to see how the voting goes on the music recording chop up or intro.

    Thx for the review👍The Studio 100 sounds a tad more lively and energetic (or colored?) and more suitable to my taste. By comparison the Celestion is maybe more restrained and controlled. BTW, I'm aware the 100 has been upgraded to SM100 with woofers using rubber surrounds instead of foam for longevity, and that's good news.

      Yes the new ones look great. The new bass units in my Studio 100’s have improved recipe on the surrounds, they shouldn’t perish any time soon.

    Much closer than with the Biggatrons Kev. In fact I really think this one is completely down to preference. The ProAcs are a bit more colored, but this arguably accentuates the musicality. The more neutral and balanced Celestions will, I think, be more of an adaptable chameleon across a wider range of repertoire. Great video as ever.
    To answer your question, I like the full track comparison as per here.

    I own pro Ac 100’s and must say they really love Tube amplification ! It would be interesting to see a comparison ; that said my go to speakers are still my Rogers Studio 1A’s . Even though the are vintage , they still sound terrific!

    It's that metal / silk tweeter phenomenon that I experienced myself when I got my UL8 this year - first you think: That's all so muffeled - but when you listen to it some time and then switch back to the metal ones the metal ones sound blood-empty and unnatural. This is really a phenomenon you have to experience. :-)

    Proacs, to me, sound mostly natural, if only for mild honk in the midrange. Celestions, to me, have a more prominent treble, but not in an unpleasant way. However, their midrange is greatly receded and I almost thought the horns were kazoos.

  • @thevintagehifiambassador8524
    @thevintagehifiambassador8524 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    cymbals better on Celestion, bass so low, allround image a little too much on the darker side and unclear, guitars a little too coloured or darkened, contrebass so deep but I suppose that is the natural sound... but ProAc fatiguing treble too high, Sax too airy, but snare drum sounds fine, a mix of both would be the best :-) Ps: sounds in the backgrounds, pieping and bass of music are disturbing, no it were not my neighbours. My verdict: I prefer the Celestions for long listenings because of the sax, the electric guitar and the hi-hats and cymbals!

    Hi, how ProAc SM100 would pair with Hegel H190? I am a late night listener and am hearing lots of positive feedback on these speakers in this respect. Currently I own a pair of Buchardt S400 and they like power, not so great at low volumes. Thanks!

  • @christopherward5065
    @christopherward5065 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I prefer the Proacs in terms of flow and the Celestions won with neutrality. The Celestions need more power to open up and that would create giant scale. The treble would be better with the Celestions at higher volume, I suspect that the treble balance would improve. I could live with either.

      Very accurate report 👍
      The SL’s are being powered by Meridian 557 so they come alive at higher volume. Unfortunately the phone mic can’t handle that level of SPL.

      Another idea might be to get a digital recorder and a decent stereo mic by Rode or Audio Technica. I like the Marantz and the Roland ones PM600 series and the R26 then you can add the sound to the pictures in post.

    Thx for the comparison! Indeed SL600 sounds natural, but dull and flat for my ear. Studio 100 sounds brash and entertaining with a great illusion of depth and width. Maybe SL600 needs a different amp (bright, japanese, perhaps)? I guess Studio 100 with forward HF and SL600 with rolled-off HF can't both play their best in the same system. For my ear your system is definetly favors ProAcs.

      @dittonworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@john_de_jong I’ve owned all
      of them, big fan as I used to work for them.
      This comparison is rather extreme to be honest but both speakers (in my room) sound fantastic, all be it very different.
      The SL6s is my favourite wooden cabinet variant, clean and very smooth sounding.
      The SL6si and 100’s both have poly caps in the crossover, makes them a tad hard sounding to my ears.
      The SL700 & SL700SE both sound great but the original SL600 (even with rolled of tops) is my favourite Aerolam variant. They sound unbelievable on vocals and classical pieces. Phenomenal sound stage and have the ability to play extremely loud (should you wish to)
      Maybe I’ll
      Compare my Spendor Classic 2/3 vs ProAc vs Celestion one day. Thanks for watching

      @@dittonworks Thank you for the info! I use ProAc Studio 118 in my main system and I really love the sound. Now I need a second system and I want to try something new. SL600/SL700 are a bit pricey for experiments so I want to give a chance to SL6/SL6S. I already have an old Accuphase power amp. I hate it for the sound - it is bright enough to make my ears bleed, but it sounds expensive enough to keep it from selling. I hope this thing will be a perfect match for Celestions.

    Love your You Tube Channel. I sold you a pair of SD Acoustics SD3s a few years ago. I listen mainly to infinite baffle speakers largely because ported speakers are so hard to do well. Proac designs manage their bass well and it was possible to get fairly undistorted bass from them. The Celestions had less obvious colourations and slightly cleaner dynamics. Both worked well enough for me to say they were accurate. Both could be pulled out into the room a little more.
