Commonly asked questions: #1 How many trackers can I use? The headset supports 5 trackers by itself, and you'll have to use the dongle plug in to the headset in order to use the initial 5. If you want to use an additional 5, meaning 10 trackers then you'll have to attach a second dongle to the PC for the additional 5 trackers and use the Vive streaming app to set them up. So, in order to have 10 trackers active at once you need headset, battery, plus PCVR. #2 How well do they work with PCVR vs headset? They work about the same but I will say the accuracy with the XR Elite headset seems better. Also with PCVR (any headset but XR elite or Focus 3) it seems like you need the dongle CLOSER to your playspace in order to improve the accuracy so I have my dongle attached to a USB-C to USB-A cord. If you're not using the XR Elite, I recommend having the tracker dongle closer to your playspace. #3 Do they get occluded easily? NO. In fact the only way I lose tracking is if I cover them completely with my clothes, or if you put them on your ankles but then you're wearing baggy pants or something like that. The trackers require a well lit room but other than that, they work very well out of the box.
Finally somebody who's actually using his headset and can respond to questions. I see that you said you were able to use the index controller via PC VR now what happens with the factory controllers because I've noticed when I did that the controllers wanted to be trackers.
@@jacobreigle9176 ok! So make sure that you ENABLE "hand tracking" in your XR Elite vive hub (or w.e. the default vr space is called when you first power on your headset) settings, then BEFORE you select steam VR in the library, TURN OFF THE ELITE CONTROLLERS. Then use hand tracking to start steam VR, you can point your hand at the menu and select steam VR. Remember, before you start steam vr, all of your ultimate trackers should be on and tracking if you're using an XR elite headset. Once you're in steam VR, you'll need to use Open Vr space calibrator. Now turn on the index controllers. If they show up and are tracking then you should be good
not directly related to the headset but the mention of the diver x gloves. I have been considering getting the rev 2 with the controller attachments and using slime vrs as the tracker for the glove. is this possible? I've had mixed answers that the slimes wouldn't be able to track fast enough, but I'd have inside out issues with ultimates as the trackers for the gloves. I'm trying to stay away from base stations and wires entirely, but I'm trying to drop controllers I have to hold all the time. can someone please enlighten me from here on if slimes or at the worse case, ultimates work for the diver rev 2 gloves
For anyone asking the original XR elite controllers are not as great as the index but they are pretty similar if you add extra grips: The Quest 2 extended grips works if you remove the plastic piece. Add that and 3 ultimate trackers and you have yourself a very wireless setup!
it's the ring and the fact I can't place my hands out of sight of the headset for me, but if people don't care about that, then the XR controllers are fine as is
Thanks for sharing, Im still sitting on the fence to see how these will work on pico 4 headset. I am dancing in the pico with 12 slimevr (=8 vive), but there is drift, so gotta hit yaw rest button here and there depending on how fast i move. So we wait ^^
I added a "commonly asked questions" to the comments section here. I understand waiting due to the price. They already lowered the trackers initial price from 250 at release to now 200, so we may see a price of 150 soon which puts them more in line with the vive 3.0 trackers at 130 USD
Returned my utlimate trackers. I really wanted to like them but I swapped them out for tundras. My current setup is q3 with 4 tundras 1 for continuous tracking and 3 for body tracking index controllers. I never tried using them with a xr elite though. My experience using them in steamvr with other headsets was buggy at best. I tried experimenting with lighting and rooms and various items in the rooms to improve tracking and nothing made it perfect.
Yea I told people in the FAQ and vive told people themselves on twitter, discord, etc that the PCVR software for the trackers is in BETA! So that means beta bugs, and other headaches. I recommend waiting for anyone who DOES NOT have XR Elite or focus 3 as it seems that the headsets are made in way that the trackers work seamlessly with them.
just a quick note, you DONT need the xr elite for these trackers, you can use any headset that connects to steamvr. I've been using the pico 4 with these trackers for almost a month now
This is in the pinned comment as well. Although to be fair, I didn't do a 1 to 1 comparison of both specifically since my setup requires 6-8 trackers so I'll never use just 5 or just 3. Although I'm sure that anyone who buys the trackers for PCVR only will see that it's a step above the 3.0's IMO
Does it work for headsets other than the Vive XR Elite? I want to try them so badly but I don't want to buy something I can't use period because I lack the correct headset (on quest pro)
You can use them with PCVR (any headset), but the build is currently in BETA, from my experience YES it works but I've found they work better with the headset hook up, I am sure that future iterations of the PCVR implementation will make the tracking better in the future. I can make a video doing a PCVR comparison for 3.0s and ultimate trackers using my vive pro instead of XR Elite.

6:08 One of the things about HTC Vive Tracker 1.0-3.0's is they work miles better with proper USB Bandwidth, buying a USB 3.0 PCIE card off Amazon and plugging them into that will increase the tracking A LOT! My one complaint about the Ultimate Tracker's is when you jump high and there's hard contact with the floor and the trackers shake, they seem to lose tracking (Neldy showed a really good example of this in his Ultimate Tracker tracking test). Although they do regain it quickly though.
The complaint of when neldy does a back flip and lands with the full force of his bodyweight onto the floor, sending the vibration and momentum through his legs ,into the trackers, which causes the trackers to shake is such a niche thing and 99.99% of users won't even be doing anything like this. Since the tech is so small, if you send impact force through them at that velocity , it's definitely going to jarr it for a second. I Suppose landing lighter would be an option but this scenario doesn't apply to the overwhelming majority of people who buy trackers.
HMMMMMMMMMM interesting question since both of these headsets use the headset and not base stations to track the controllers. I have no idea if this would work or not without base stations and open space calibrator which appears to be the go-to app for making different VR headset accessories work interchangeably
It's been 3 months since your awesome video, i want to ask, is the software for the PCVR version still in beta? I really want to get trackers as i want to learn dancing in VR. Unfortunately, my room setup makes it so that base stations are impossible to set up. I have been thinking whether to get the IMU LSM trackers or the ultimate trackers. This is only possible if you're using the XR elite since the dongle is literally attached to your head. I mapped several rooms in my house with the XR elite and had no issues since the dongle will never lose tracking since it is always close to the trackers
In your video, you said that Ultimate Tracker works better than Vive Tracker 3.0. Since you've probably tried different variations, I have a question. Which of the following do you think will provide more accurate tracking? 4x base stations + valve knuckle controller + 8x vive 3.0 trackers + quest 3 headset = ~2500 usd 2x base stations + valve knuckle controller + 5x vive ultimate truckers + XR Elite Headset = ~2500usd
the ultimate trackers were made for the ELITE, although you can use them with other headsets with PCVR, you have to remember that software is current in BETA. So you have 3 options: get elite bundle with ult trackers. #2 get quest like you listed above but just deal with the issues you'll have with the beta software. #3 just wait until the software is out of beta and there are no issues with the software if you want to use it with quest or another headset that is not the XR elite.
Thanks for the comment, I wonder how well it works for PCVR since the software is in beta but I think if you're not doing backflips or breakdancing, it should work really well haha

How are you able to use Index controllers with your XRE? Are you letting steam handle the connection and simply powering down the Vive controllers so they dont take priority?

Overall like the vid and glad the UT's are working well though.
jitter for local is still an issue because if you make content like VR films/videos or stream in VR, the jitter is there when you're recording locally or streaming locally, and the jitter is seen by the audience which often takes away from the impact of the content. Since when I dance I do speed changes from slower movements to quick ones, the OVR smoothing app could actually cause what appears to be latency as my foot or hands move slower than my actual hands as it works to smooth out the jitter. We used to use that app before VRC's IK smoothing updates, it's not a bad app for 3.0's it's just not needed anymore with the ULT trackers although I may test a low setting for them with the index controllers since those still jiggle. As far as drifting with 3.0's and reflective surfaces you're right, but I do like that the ULT trackers don't have all of these variables that could make it not work vs it just working out of the box which means you can actually use your VR room as a streaming space or as an actual room by being able to put things in it vs having it completely bare so you don't have anything that effects the base stations. Again, if you want 11 point tracking, its a hefty price so it's up to the end user to decide if it's worth it for them.
