- SlimeVR might be the cool kid on the block, but Axis Lite might just dethrone it! Just not today...
Huge thanks to Refract Technologies and the Axis team for gifting me this set of trackers for review. This video is not sponsored and all my opinions are my own.

If the Axis team could make this set works with quest 3’s upper body tracking that could make this amazing FBT. I am still surprised that meta haven’t release any imu trackers yet.
Could you just disable them in steam Vr and opt for other or was I mistaken to assume?
I'm surprised they haven't just taken the tech in the Quest 3 controllers and made a set of camera based trackers like Vive Ultimate Tracker
with virtual desktop I dont see why you couldnt.
I imagine its not too hard to mix and match the tracker emulation, right? I am no expert but I imagine you'd just disable the quest 3 legs and everything would match up.
@@ericbazinga Meta doesn't care about FBT probably. They are in the mindset that AI will solve everything and future camera based IOBT solutions will be "good enough" for "most people", without the friction of putting on trackers. But in reality we all know it won't be good enough. If they just allow connecting multiple touch pro controllers to the quest it will beat the shit out of HTC's solution both in terms of performance and price. I own both and the ultimate trackers are just difficult to set up and unstable.
the lower body tracker probably needs the chest data to have better tracking. so they need to integrate headset's tracking data in their skeleton prediction@@alwaysyouramanda
Wanna beat slimevr at their own game? have a product the customer can actually buy and receive.
Ikr? I’ve been waiting for my Slimes bouta year. I ordered AXIS Standard and got it in a week ^^
Agreed I’m ngl I’ve been extremely frustrated with slimevr. They keep delaying and it’s been years since they said they will come out.
I mean just make them? i decided i wanted some and i had 8+3 a month later, only took that long because i ordered the parts from aliexpress
@@shiftednrifted I thought about doing that but then didn’t want to risk messing anything up so just decided to wait instead.
TBF Slime had issues with the chip fabs during the chip shortage. Imagine paying in full for 20,000+ chips, and only getting sent 5,000 with a 'promise' they'll make more next year (as companies like Sony magically get their whole order shipped).
Then that whole FCC/Customs issue that held everything up for another half year.
Only thing holding Slime together is the devout community and the dedicated transparency the owner has for the minutia of production woes.
Please do an update when the software is improved. I am quite interested in these. Although I think they should add a hip tracker. Dancing just doesn't work with hip estimation.
I definitely plan to come back to these trackers with a follow up when the fixes come out. Trust me there's tonnes of other interesting stuff about the trackers that I couldn't include in this one!
Great video! I've been considering picking up some FBT hardware for VRC slummin' and wasn't even aware these guys existed. Knowing the limitations of IMU-based estimation, it's really bizarre they only went with 4 trackers in the box... but those results with the SlimeVR server + owoTrack are pretty compelling. Sad to see that your discount code doesn't stack on top of the current "early bird special" they've got, which is also $62 off, but at least that means I can sit on this decision for longer.
I'm in the exact same boat.
About $100 more, do I think that is worth is the question.
The battery capacity is unimportant to me, I can't handle the VR face brick for more than a few hours anyway. So I'd be paying about 100 more for:
Vibration motors, 1 less tracker, more accurate and quick tracking with less drift, and a more simple, compact, and visually appealing charging setup.
HES BACK AGAIN🔥
heh
Combined with Quest 3s ability to upper body track, less tracker will feel so much nicer.
Ayy you back! Always love seeing a new video out of you
I was literally watching your videos hours ago and now a new video just popped up! Im eating good tonight lmao
While there could be some extra "filtering" that makes the drift better, I'm pretty sure most of what is preventing drift is the magnetometer. You can get really good longevity with Slimes too if you enable the magnetometer. But too many people have magnetic interference in their home or play space for it to be enabled by default. I definitely get interference with mag enabled that causes my trackers to point in different directions depending on where I am standing in my room or what furniture I am near. My play space isn't that big. If I had a play space as large as yours it would be less of an issue, but still definitely a problem the moment I go lay in bed.
Yeah, I am definitely curious to see what kind of magnetic environments most people end up having in their playspaces. Would be a great insight into what exactly is viable for most people when it comes to that.
Great to see you posting yt again cai!
This are hella interesting.. Hopefully the software improves, but man, that's really cool!
You can enable the magnetometer on slimes. Its only disabled as most people have bad magnetic environments. Try putting a magnet near the axis trackers, and you'll see what I mean
if they had a 5th tracker and twice the battery life for the same price I would buy them right now
Well if you need to use slimeVR software to get half-decent results you can't really call that beating them at their own game-
The drift filtering is very interesting though. Drift being the only real problem with IMU tracking, the day they find a way to solve it is the day IMUs become the best solution.
However, I would be curious to know more about how the magnetometer is used in Axis. You can activate them on Slimes and the software can use it but most of the time it's deactivated because having a magnetic stable environnement is very rare. You don't want your body to go all wonky each time you get closer to a heater. If you didn't notice anything weird due to magnetic fields around you that is very, very interesting
id be interested in a review of the 9 tracker version to see if that fixes the wonky body issue
that thumbnail is perfect
Amazing video btw ! Very underrated 😭💞
I imagine that if they can incorporate Standables estimation when Standable 2.0 comes out I imagine the hip will be a lot better
I think I’ll be sticking with vive for the moment, but these are definitely on my radar now. I’ll probably comeback and by them a year from now assuming the software problem is resolved
How are these if you're in another room, away from your PC? Do they work over wifi like the Slime trackers do when using AXSlime? I use VD to play PCVR another room with more space, so I'm wondering if these'll work.
if you're only a room over id say they'd be fine. I used mine about 10m away through a couple of brick walls and only then I began to experience tracking dropouts. Though of course, that may vary depending on your own situation, so don't take my word for it lol
Lol okay, so pretty much they're still synced to the dongle so you can't get too far. Thanks!
Cai ... VR? ME IN VR?!?!
Hi cai, im cai.
Pretty nice to see low cost trackers, hopefully I can get one of these later down the line.
Oooo wonder how these are now, they seem to be out of pre-order! Looking into FBT for the first time and this seems like a great solution that isn't too high maintenance if the issues are fixed.
As an addition to slime setups, these do look promising.
Slime software can be made to work with anything. Open source ftw.
I want them so badly
Only leg trackers though? If I wasnt waiting on slimes that'll come with hip and body trackers, i'd probably be down for getting these, given the way that the quest 3 now can handle that part without trackers. Using both would be basically the best cheap FBT possible.
6:04 oh scratch that. Or perhaps... Its *necessary* for this to work at all?
11:22 99% of the time not an issue for me personally but eh.
So basically if I didnt already have slimes on the way I would probably be looking into purchasing these.
I wish I could afford the tesla suit. The best option for all time
Have you tried 4 axis, one phone and elbows and waist (neck and feet) slimevr imu's? to go same as 8 vive trackers would give?
No I have not, too many trackers for me lol (for now)
@@Cai_VR lol :D If there where only one tracker to track them all :D
U should do this fulltime
you kinda forgot that magnetometers just completely fuck the whole tracking when you have too many electronics around
which is for normal users pretty much always the case
I wish Shiftall supported the HaritoraX with this much passion (And recognition of SlimeVRs better software)
I feel like HaritoraX 1.1 (And others) hardware is fine
But I find the software really frustrating ;-;
Would love to see this tested with standable v2.0
Honestly, they would be best off partnering with SlimeVR and the community solution for their SteamVR support?
And they need to add a usb port to the tracker design for charging while in use!
@Cai_VR hello thanks for the great video can u make a tutorial how to use axis lite with the slime software? would be great!
These are pretty neat, but ill always support open source, it benefits everyone
Why are they're no tutorials on how to install and set up these trackers???
Can you use virtual desktop to make a fake hip tracker to make up for the lack of a physical hip tracker?
fuck slimevr they need to get their shit together
hey buy or make a pop filter for your mic had to turn you down 6:09 but you at 6:30 sounded a lot better because it was a different mic or you stood a bit away from your mic
YEAHHJ BUDDY HES HERE
bruh 6 months, i know your quailty if videos are amazing but that is such of a long time, but still amazing video 10/10
Can you make a tutorial whau to use psmove as controllers on steam plz
Hello, can this type of solution be combined with the Quest 3 IOBT in PCVR via Virtual Desktop?
Yes
Couldn’t someone use Axis Lite and standable?
YEAH CAIII (I love u )
does this work stand-alone on a quest 2?
no it doesnt
bro is a pico simp like me fr fr
👀
@@Cai_VR brother you should make more content fr i would love to see harry potter talk about vr stuff quite entertaining better then thrill seeker for sure 🤣
@@Meowserz. thanks, you can count on it lol
Do you need a pc?
yes, you will need a PC to plug the dongle into and connect the trackers to
Well that sucks for me then
probley start saying subscribe in thy videos
They were tight and you got pretty skinny legs. No way thats fitting me then. 😅
350 dollar for posing....so far....
im sorry but. did you say four hours?!
I like your content but that title is a tad needlessly clickbaity imma be real, I've seen it a tad too many times.
"SlimeVR bad?!?"
One good side: haptic motors. Makes it indeed interesting.
Bad side: 4 hours use. That is short. SlimeVR works much longer.
Weird side: No 5th tracker for breast / hips is a bummer. You showed already the biggest problem. So 4x set is still not good.
And this makes Axis also more expensive compared to SlimeVR. Not far from same price, i got 7+3 set, included ELBOW tracking. I wont tell about 9x Axis box, price is almost doubled.
BTW SlimeVR open source is amazing and can even upgraded in future with newer IMU chip. Axis feels more closed because it's already inside designed housing, limiting options to upgrade it.
So Axis wins over SlimeVR? Not really. Even more, they call help of SlimeVR community to use Axis trackers. That is very funny side.
Do i forgive the USB spaghetti? Well, if you're smart enough and have 3D printer, you can design charging dock too for SlimeVR. I will design that someday. Unless you're too lazy.
And it seems there are already separated vibrating boxes out. Need find them.
4 hour battery life is too short and a dealbreaker for me ngl
more expensive than slime, less areas than slime for the same price. if you dont want to wait 2 months for slime, get these. if you can wait, slime seems better
Could also build your slimes yourself and wait 1 month instead of 2+
Okay this tracking is much worst then my Slimevr and tundra and vive tracking
Where the heck do you find the community programs that make it actually work?
kinda sick and tired of the "it's so awesome and so good, but you're gonna need two programs that I'm not gonna tell you how to find or give any links so good luck googling the names of the programs you can't understand because I talk so damn fast"
Pretty sure Boneless and Tahvo have their videos covered?
Links are in description now, thanks for the reminder lol
