This is the absolute best time in history to be a backlog gamer. Physical and digital sales make it so easy to catch up on anything you missed. New releases are expensive and ship unfinished. Enjoy your library and save so much money instead.
fantastic point.. I personally have enjoyed the cycle of gaming.. and then when it comes to the backlog, thats absolute facts.. Im focusing on Elden Ring now loll but alongside that, im playing Kingdom Hearts 3, Nier Automata, Doom Eternal etc alot of older games. backlog is insane
THIS THIS THIS!!! These whiny generation of gamers never ceases to amaze me. Just finished dark souls 3, currently playing ragnarok, and still have re7: biohazard, and resident evil village in my backlog loool. Games are better than they have ever been
Totally agree. I was in a relationship for the last 12 years just collecting games. Now that I'm single I have to go back and beat RDR2, The Witcher 3, CP2077, and learn if I have what it takes to be From Software games.
@@reallyrasta sorry to hear that, bro. Honestly if it weren't for the pandemic I'd have a PS5 right now. I actually had a PS3 at the start of 2020 and was saving up for the 5 release later in the year, but once the world starting shutting down, l decided to just get a PS4. Best choices l ever made lol
Exactly . You could potentially play a story driven game left on a cliff hanger for part 2 and then have to pay another 500-600 on a new console to experience part 2. It’s like when things like elder scrolls 6 was announced like will it even release on this generation doubt it very much . Ps2 has gta 3/vice city and San Andreas - which people probably had more fun with these than majority of games these days .
This is why I modded my ps2 put a quieter fan in it replaced thermal pads and now put a ssd in it so I have the whole ps2 library in it now I can catch up on all the games I missed as a kid.
Aside from Mario, what worthwhile games are there to play on switch? They cater to parents who are looking for a cheaper option and child friendly titles. Awesome, let them fill that bracket of the market. But aside from Nintendont owned IPs there isn't much, especially not 'cool titles' aside from Astral Chain perhaps.
@@bravefastrabbit770 Fire Emblem, Collection of Mana, Shin Megami Tensei 5, Bayonetta 3 and Origins, Xenoblade 1, 2, and 3, and a LOT more developed in house by Nintendo. Also I'm not exactly sure if I'd consider Metroid Dread and the upcoming Metroid Prime 4 "child friendly" as Metroid tends to go for a spookier atmosphere. Nor are they cheap, unfortunately. I haven't personally bought from Nintendo in a year or two since I'm very much against their stance on game preservation, but the games I've played have all been superb.
@@bravefastrabbit770 You can't really say "aside from Nintendo IPs" when they have like the most stacked roster of IPs in the industry. They've been firing on all cylinders this gen.
This 💯. I don't buy many games normally, but I haven't even felt the urge to buy a game in years. After seeing everything turn into a "live service" and then get abandoned the moment they aren't making money on it I stopped supporting many publishers. On top of that, games that get dragged out for no reason, like FF7 Remake, hurt people too. I waited years for that game.....only for it to not even finish the story of the first disc of a than 25+ year old game. And they want me to pay 60 plus own the new system to play roughly to the end of the old disc 1? Nah. I will just play the original
I believe the shortage of games is the reason for this live service crap, companies spent too much to make these consoles and since everything is going to crap their looking for a way to make that money back. Had they delayed the launch and waited until they had the man power to create the games, the consoles themselves would've had a good foundation to start on.
You mean worst generation of gamers. You complain about everything. I don't have time to play the ridiculous about of awesome huge games out this year alone
The biggest problem with the gaming industry is that graphics require far too much money and time to be created, resulting in very few games being released. What was Nintendo saying since the Wii era. graphics will be the Downfall for gaming and gameplay is much more important. And now the Switch has more than 90 first party games, that speaks for itself
graphics are important nothing stays the same forever. game play is important but you cannot just ignore graphics either. that being said game play is more important.also their is a reason remakes are popular its because remakes are a way to get a new experience like with dragon quest 3 2d remake that square is coming out with.
@@supersaiyaman11589 Most games nowadays have great graphics but not a great art style. Nintendo's franchises either have a cartoony art style or an anime art style. So even with the weak power of the Switch, their games still look great while they are super cheap and take very little time to be made. You can see this in recent games such as M&L brothership and Zelda echoes of wisdom. And that is why games such as Persona 5 have a perfect port on Switch.
Nintendo is just cheap and lazy when it comes to graphical power. They have no problem charging full price for their games but will stay behind the eight ball hardware wise.
@Jenkmode89 Good for you if you can keep buying the same rehashes with low effort production value games from Nintendo. But their games have never appealed to me that much.
I feel bad for young gamers today. Being a child/teen in the 80s/90s, it was non-stop and amazing. Every 4 years was a new system, new games and new advances. And each console generation was a MASSIVE leap. There were always 'can't miss' launch titles only available on the new hardware. Always new and novel types of gameplay. If you were one of the lucky ones to get your hands on the newest, you were the envy of every kid in the neighborhood or class. Nowadays kids play the same game for years, like my nieces and Roblox or nephew and Spiderman. Most games are the same: 3rd-person action w/ RPG elements. Gaming is really in a rut the past 10 years.
80s and 90s were cool but sorry 2000s kids we had the best era, we had those games you talk about laying around thanks to our parents and we also lived Halo in its hay day, burnout 3, peak Call of duty, 3d platformers, GameCube, PS2, the peak of gaming consoles 🤘🏻
Exactly, I went through a Hanimex Pong system, CBS Colecovision, Atari 2600, C64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 and then onto the PC. The leap from the C64 to the Amiga was mindblowing. I got a Switch 2 years ago for my Daughter and have recently gone back to the Amiga 1200 but yes, the 80's and 90's by far the greatest decades in home gaming.
PS3/Wii/360 was truly the last great era of gaming for Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. They were so competitive for trying to be the best delivering great 1st party games

Scalpers had a hand in this. Way less people were able to purchase due to scalpers. And by the time there were enough consoles to buy through normal means, people (like me) said F it. I don't need a console.
@Blackreaper95 I said F it because after patiently waiting for sony to put out more systems just to be swept up by more online store checkout bots, I got tired of waiting and I took that money and put it towards building a PC instead.
There weren't that many scalpers though. When the new consoles came out there were major chip shortages around the world. That was a big problem for a lot of people.

PS2 was the peak of many franchises (e.g. Metal Gear Solid) that went to shit during the 360/PS3 era. Of course when next gen consoles came out, the PS2 just ended up with a lot of shovelware, shitty ports and the usual annual sports games. If you're younger, I can understand why you wouldn't appreciate it.
My family still hasn't transition from a PS4 to PS5... the cost and early lack of availability, the functionality of PS4 (using it for streaming services like Netflix or Disney+), and the lack of interesting games on the 5... still no need. I can see a scenario in which we miss this generation altogether and spring for a PS6 in a few years, especially is the 4 still works for streaming really well.
Honestly I’m kind of there myself. The only thing making me consider the 5 is wondering if the 6 won’t be available for 2 years after launch and maybe we end up in this same situation: every PS 6 game is also available for the 5 too. 😂😂
Exactly the same over here. I had been holding out for a mid-generation PS5 but there is literally no reason to buy one - not one with any legitimacy. PC, PS4 and Switch for now!
That's the way I feel. The games look good but they are so shallow. I thought battle systems would have gotten more complex and amazing but they are being dumbed down. Also everything feels and looks the same. It's all the same type of game just a different coat of paint.
This is true outside of gaming - cars, houses, food, travel ..everything pleasurable now feels like a compromise. Capitalism is truly at its peak. Nothing seems to be build to last and planned obsolescence is now a feature baked into things.

To be frank, a new console is supposed to play games that can't be played on last gen due to technical limitations. And in past, graphical fidelity of games grew so fat that every srveral years you needed a new console to keep playing newest games. But we are reaching a ceiling of graphical quality. Once, two games released 3 years apart looked vastly different, but today a 10 years old game doesn't look much worse than tbe newest game. Which is what makes 9th gen of consoles so underwhelming: they were released too early, before they were needed.
Not really its not that they are too early but tech reached a point of scaling. Previous consoles were completely different architecture Now its just pc like and they scale down
Console generations I’ve owned: SNES N64 Sega Dreamcast XBox Xbox 360 Xbone But now I’ve gone gaming PC and gone off of the consoles entirely. Don’t with trying to get an international debit card to work in an American Xbox Live account in the East Asian region. Done with no backwards compatibility, and having to rebuy GTAV, like, 3 times on 3 different generations of hardware. Done with trying to be loyal to Xbox while they allowed themselves to be utterly pwned in the console exclusives war with Sony. Done with paying, like, $60-$70 dollars for every new game instead of getting things incredibly cheap on a Steam Sale. Done with CoD season passes, gaming as a service, and this Games Pass/Xbox Live model where as long as you keep paying them for the rest of your life, you probably won’t lose “your” games. It was all such a bunch of crap.
@@greatBLT Tbf I did pick up an old, used PS3 at one point around the launch of the PS4 or PS5 solely to check out some of the PlayStation exclusives that couldn’t be had on Xbox, namely “The Last of Us (1)” and the first 3 “Uncharted” games, all of which I’d heard incredible things about. “The Last of Us” absolutely lived up to the hype and was an incredible experience. The “Uncharted” games generally didn’t. The gameplay was bog-standard 3rd person platforming shooter with too many quick-time events and the writing and characters were incredibly lame, I thought, which surprised me because I’d been lead to believe they were much better than average in those departments. The first game was really bad and dated by the time I played it. The second and third had better controls and felt more modern, but by the time I was getting into the third, which genuinely had good graphics and spectacle, I gave up on them because of the characters/writing. If I had discovered the Yakuza series at that point, that might have genuinely sold me on the PlayStation ecosystem a bit more (got into “Like a Dragon” finally on the Xbone, and have gone on to get all of the previous games on Steam since), but I didn’t at the time. Also, the Xbox controller has been vastly superior to PlayStation ever since they released the “S-Type” to replace “The Duke.” I could NOT get into the PlayStation controller feel.
Same. PS3 was the last console I bought. Between Steam, GOG and emulation (god I love emulation), I can play pretty much every game from every era. Throw in mods and no worries about backwards compatibility and it's a no brainer. PC Master Race!
The most probable reason is that the PC/ Console technology is advancing faster than the human game developers can make new games. Developing games for new gen hardware is more difficult and takes a lot of time.
The main problem is business types that took over and focus on profit over quality, and with their greed they raise prices and rush things to keep that ever increasing income flowing and so not enough time is given to making things properly (or to the right things in general). Consoles were meant to be the cheaper alternative to computer games but now they match the price when you add up all the costs at the end of a consoles generation. Games once made by gamers for gamers are now made by uninterested/not invested workers for investors interests.
I don't see why just because we have better hardware they always have to push the limits cinematic wise but keep it safe and non experimental gameplay wise. Very non forward thinking. Feels like I'm watching a movie then playing a video game. And the industry and fan boys will use that as a scapegoat to charge more money for the same stale ass games.
Closing studios, games take longer to make, so less people are making games. Which means if the games that are made are bad, that's it for that company in this generation, not enough time to make a new game.. move on to next box send ps6
The is the remake, backwards compatibility generation with more fps and HDR. Covid destroyed this Generation. I hope they extend the life cycle of PS5 series x because this gen has barely started. The switch was the true star of this generation. Nintendo never lost focus and kept releasing big hits despite covid.
How much did you think upgrading to 16 gb of ddr5, a zen 2 cpu, and a ssd was going to cost? I think $500 for these systems was perfectly reasonable at launch. Should they be cheaper now? Yes, but they just go to their standard excuse of "teh pandemicz!" regarding that. But that's across the entire corporate spectrum.
Covid hurt this console generation as well as games taking four or five years to make that's probably the biggest issue plaguing this console generation
People seem to have completely forgotten how covid shut everything down and profoundly affected media output that take 3-4 years to develop like film and video games.
I mean unless all their studio's burn to the ground that bar will be cleared easily. There's a possibility that we'll have a 3d Mario, Metroid 4, and Pokemon Legends ZA as launch titles depending on when the switch 2 releases, and that's just the stuff we know about.
This is why nintendo is the goat, and that's coming from a Sony guy. I've always like nintendo but I've always been more of a PlayStation player but these past couple years. I've really come to appreciate Nintendo.
Tbh Nintendo rarely come up with new games its stuck with its exclusives since ages Mario, zeldla, super smash etc and they are easy to develop games for a simple device Unlike ps5 and series x which need very long time and alot of money to make a new game But cant deny Nintendo games still damn fun
@@ali-haider5788 they milked tf out of new super mario bros to the point where when wonder came out, it felt like a whole new concept lmao, I think that that's their strategy though, stick to what does good/best and then use that to the point where if they announce a new game for that franchise, it'd had been at least half a decade or more, to get more people to get the console when it happens, and then let them explore the other great games for that console also. Except for pokemon which seems to be the only exception and now the games suck.
PS1 was a big upgrade for consoles and as a bonus it was a good CD player when standalone CD players were expensive. PS2 was a game changer because of online gaming and SOCOM 2, plus it was a DVD player when standalone DVD players were expensive. PS3 integrated easier online gaming, no need for PS2-style memory cards, the ability to connect/stream from the internet, and had a Blu-ray player when standalone Blu-ray players were still expensive. The only console that matters anymore is the Nintendo Switch. And with a new next gen Nintendo Switch potentially on the horizon next year, it’s clear Nintendo is well within their own league at this point.
This was the one and only consoles generation I totally skipped, and my first console was (mind you) a Sega Master System. I am fine with my PC & "previous gen" consoles, and never felt a reason to get a PS5 or an X. Never happened to me before, in 30 years of gaming.
You getting old bro, i don't know I've got ps5 and xbox series x last year and I'm pretty enjoying it so far especially with adaptive triger and hapticfeedback that's a whole new experience.
That's pretty much my story, too - started with an Atari, stopped with a PS4. There's only a scant handful of console exclusives that never make it to PC, and with so many other great games out there, I don't really miss them. I'm still glad that I own all the consoles I already have, but now that PC gaming has gotten so accessible, investing in another one doesn't seem anywhere near as necessary as it used to.
Exactly like me. I also started with the Sega Master System and never missed a console including all previous Playstations. And just like you I jabe not yet felt an extreme need to get a PS 5. So far I am still waiting for some awesome games that will want me to soend my hard earned cash. My plan was to wait for the Pro version. But let’s see about the games first. If nothing major happens maybe I’ ll end up skipping this current generation after all. I do think thought we are about 2 years behind schedule in terms of games development because of Covid. Let’s see what the future brings. Maybe now there are starting to kick in.
I feel like people really dont appreciate how much better a lot of these cross generation releases play on the ps5. Not only is the controller a huge upgrade, but all these games run so much better. I dont see anything wrong with giving people the option to have a better experience, but for some people its not worth it so they can stick with the ps4 / xbox one.
I think it’s what your standards are and if you think it justifies the cost. Because while i agree the boost in performance makes a big difference, it’s fair to say we should have higher standards to motivate companies to do more. When paying $500 to upgrade to a new system, the boost in performance for some people should be a given and expected. That’s the case for most previous gen upgrades where we got a boost in performance and visuals IN ADDITION to many new quality games. This time around there’s the boost in performance but the visuals are improved but honestly it’s less of a leap than previous upgrades, which does make sense because as technology gets more advanced it becomes more difficult to see the difference graphically. I guess my point is, if someone told me to buy a brand new system for $500 just to play old games that will perform much better, I’d say that is awesome but not fully worth $500. If it was around $300, then maybe. Now I know it’s not that black and white so I’m not implying the PS5 should be $300 because there has been some good titles that’s been released, but this is just my overall opinion.
@What_In_This_World I respect the switch and love it for certain games. But if I own a game on switch I will often buy it again on ps5 these days just because it feels that much better to me. Just personal preference though.
@rod253 completely different level of games though. Achieving 60fps on a lot of these games is entirely different than ps3 titles. Everything changes with time.
I'm not even excited about GTA VI either. From the various leaks we can see it is very much shaping up to be an enhanced GTA V rebuilt on the RDR2 platform and with tightened up graphics. That's it. I'm not expecting much truly 'new' and a lot of people will likely be quite disappointed, despite Rockstar sticking to proven formulae and knowing what works. A lot of today's AAA games are just graphical tech demos from the same franchises, released on a regular cadence and with very little true innovation. We're told that having an enormous map filled with pointless side quests is "immersive" - if I want to wash my car, or walk my dog, or go fishing, or run someone else's errands, I can do that in real life. Gaming is supposed to be fun, an escape, something different.

So much potential yet to be be fulfilled by developers to create new PS5 games that take full advantage of the new consoles. It's been mostly prior gen games with a 4K/60 fps sheen going on 5 years in as of 2024.
There are many many new games that cant play on the ps4 but do on a ps5 . 155 ps4 games so far have the free 4k/60 patch now like Mass Effect and Witcher 3 all with fast ssd load times. Try and play Alan Wake 2 ,BDG3 and Jedi Survivor on a PS4 . The Ps5 is leaps ahead of a Ps4 .

The best games of this era are the remakes. This says a lot about today's gamers. These days most gamers devote themselves to climb a stupid leaderboard. Back in the day, gamers wanted to have fun by playing video games.
It's hard to realize a level of graphics on current gen hardware that can't easily be downgraded for a last gen release too. So it is tempting for companies to want to do cross-gen to maximize sales.
If games play as great on the older gen than on the newer gen, then why making a new gen? And if you need to compare screens side by side to prove me it's better on the newer gen, that means it's not obvious enough to require a new gen. Just make a PS4 Pro Pro then, don't call it a PS5.

Sony and MS would be smart to divest from the "generation" hardware model. Currently they are betting their existence on keeping up with technology and locking you into using their PC box over another. Nintendo is in a good position, focusing on their own branding and exclusives plus fun elements like Joycons while completely disregarding the top graphics capabilities. Sony and MS need to be more diverse in their efforts, investing heavily in fostering their own exclusive IP while making every effort to improve qualify of life when using their systems.
@@rod253 by this logic u can play Pong at 120 fps since the year 2000. Why does anyone need to upgrade then? Maybe think like 2cm or more deeper next time?
That’s how generations will be now. You don’t have to buy the lastest machine , but if you don’t, you will have lesser fps and resolution. For anyone that wants more fps or resolution , each generation will be worthwhile
The 360/PS3 era had some of the best games of all time. There was so much innovation in gaming during that time. There isn’t a single next gen game that feels next gen.
The other thing you did not list is the fact all the major developers want to make cash cow multiple player co op games that become a constant renewable revenue stream. The single player campaign is mostly dead in tripe A gaming. Most single player campaign games are double A Independent studios releasing to all platforms for maximum market saturation.
This generation was essentially just PS4 and Xbox One games but in 4k 60. Hoping next generation brings some actual advancements. The difference between my PS4 Pro and PS5 is definitely one of the smallest console leaps ever. Plus it doesn't help either that practically all games are still coming out on this gen and previous gen. I am slightly worried we've hit a plateau as a whole with video games. Plus developers are trying way to hard to make each game last for years and years but in reality its just making them bland and boring. So many games are built with so much aimless filler now.
Is it stupid to think that even thou we think the next gen is coming in 4 years time that this current gen won’t then be supported again for a possible 4 more years potentially?
A question for all of you gamers: ¿how come combat flight simulation is no longer a popular genre? I remember back in the 80s and 90s there were many good games of that sort: starting with Gunship (apache helo sim, commodore 64), F117-A, battle of britain, microsoft combat flight sim, X-wing vs tie fighter, wing commander, etc. With today's technology I think it would be really cool to play games like these, you know , with a big screen and surround sound.
This is why the Nintendo Switch is winning this generation hand over fist. Switch 2 will obviously kick off the next generation while PS and XB are still struggling to get this gen off the ground.
I don’t get why it’s now so costly and time consuming to make AAA games compared to previous generations? The hardware is more powerful than ever and they’re all built on 3rd party engines that provide most of the heavy lifting for physics, lighting etc etc. what aspect of game development is it that causes it to be so drawn out?
I wonder if it’s comparable to the movie industry. The Marvel movies look terrible CG wise(not all but a bunch) and end up costing $250 million to make. Yet, Godzilla Minus 1 looked amazing and cost like $5 bucks to make. If I owned a studio I would definitely review how we are spending our money. Nintendo seems to have the right formula. Make a ton of AA games to fill in gaps between the AAA releases. Optimize the hell out of your games and stay within a reasonable budget. Going back to Marvel, some of the original movies looked better than the ones now. Makes no sense.
I am not sure if we can take into consideration the first 1-2 years of this generation as it was the time of COVID and lockdown... So technically we are just 2-3 years into this generation...
Maybe for exclusives, sure. But since this year started ive played Granblue Fantasy Relink, Persona 3 Reloaded, Final Fantasy 7, Rise of Ronin, Stellar Blade, FF16 DLC, and now Elden Ring DLC. It’s an amazing time to be a gamer.
My ps4 was definitely on its last legs and I didn’t get a pro, so my ps5 has gotten plenty of use. Still have a huge backlog anyway. I love how quiet it is and I absolutely prefer 60fps in everything I play now. Hoping this gen lasts longer as it’s not even close to showing the best it can bring.
This was a weird console generation with covid, scalpers, and people just not being able to buy a new console. This lead developers to making cross gen games just to try and make profit. Look at what sony done to square enix, got exclusive deals with ps5 only and both major games are saying sales didnt meet expectations.
Square signed the deal though. It's a two way thing not one way. They sign epic deals too. Can't put all the blame on Sony , if they can say No. Ff7 remake deal was at least signed in 2015.
I miss the simple PS2 type of games. The sheer variety, ease of use, simple menus. I’m so uninspired to buy new games right now- they look so uninspired…what few are out there.
Problem 1: Money being wasted Problem 2: Time being wasted. Games DO NOT take 7+ years to develop, they just forgot what it means to not bite off more than you can chew.
The problem aren't PS4 and Xbox One. The problem is that 9th gen was POINTLESS. If you want a gaming PC get a PC to play 120fps 4K etc. PS4 to this date has enough processing power for any developer that doesn't need to make you see the porus and nose hair of your first person character model. Most indies and smaller titles have enough power. The magical SSD was a lie and a PS4 could run Rift Apart at mid graphics 1080p Why they keep the 8th gen alive? Because it's still usable and unless you're a graphics SNOB. Gaming REALISM peaked in 8th gen. RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 is a PS4 and XB One game. 9th gen just exists to COMPETE against PCs.
Final fantasy 16/Spider man 2 disagrees with that sentiment. Also. Cyberpunk was trash on the last gen console. I played on ps5 an had almost zero of the issues people were saying. 😂. Ps4 version was unplayable on launch . So you're wrong. BUT okay sure. I hate when people like you literally make comments with no proof or backup and low iq gamers agree. " yeah graphics suck lol" Ray tracing is night and day and ps4 cannot handle Ray tracing. Ps5 barely runs Ray tracing and runs games at 30 fps . Talk about gaming when you actually understand all of gamings parts. Thanks.
Facts! I said this 2yrs ago. I got the ps5 on release date , and honestly I use it more to charge my phone than to play games. I just miss the gaming days of the 2000s with exclusives and games were actually FUN
That’s one expensive phone charger, but the real reason I’m here is to tell you how glad I am that you know the difference between “then” and “than”. So many people use “then” when they should use “than”, and vice versa.
This is why I don't get excited for games anymore. Do you know how many games I was hyped for that turned out to be awful at launch? It's so disappointing. Another thing, and this is more of an indie game problem, I have contributed to kickstarters that ended up not being what they promised or just straight up got cancelled. I am over it.
Seriously the one reason I'd upgrade to PS5 is because it's backwards compatible. This generation has been so lackluster. I mean sure there's a handful of games I want but they'll be there.
While Helldivers 2 is so far my favourite game this year.this year's first party titles are underwhelming . Thanks to the 3rd party developers we can still get cool new games like FF7 rebirth, like a dragon and Hades 2
I bought a Xbox series X last year, I’ll be honest I only got it so I can play my Xbox 360 games on 60 FPS upscaled. I have a PS2 and PS3, used to have a PS4 but the only time I thought about getting a PS5 was when I nearly FOMOed for Final fantasy 7 rebirth. Soon as I heard about PS exclusive coming to PC I dropped that thought so fast.
The install base of the previous generation is huge, and with those consoles having the same architecture as the current Gen ones, it has never been easier to build games that run on both generations. We ended up with this chicken-egg situation where people won't upgrade because the games are still coming out on previous Gen consoles and companies won't pass on that revenue potential from releasing on last Gen. You can be sure you'll still see cross gen games for a few more years.
Another problem is trying to make games more “life-like” MAKE THEM FUN!! there called video “GAMES” for a reason , If you want more realism go outside & touch grass
My last Playstation was the PS3 and by the looks of it, I didn't miss much. There is tons of content for that generation and older that I missed out on and I am enjoying going backwards with my gaming preferences.
Micro transactions not only harmed this gen, but also harmed gaming permanently. Even Rockstar had to start working on GTA 6 just because of the pressure. Otherwise, they would sustain their profit for another 10 years through GTA 5 online.
This is the absolute best time in history to be a backlog gamer. Physical and digital sales make it so easy to catch up on anything you missed. New releases are expensive and ship unfinished. Enjoy your library and save so much money instead.
This. This, so much.
fantastic point..

You know there's an issue when I have to buy old ps4 games that I never played to find something new to play on my ps5

That era of gaming industry is still at the peak. Not to mention, the leap from the old gen to PS2 gen was mega huge.

Amazing no one mentions nintendo thriving on 7 year-old hardware that was already old when it released.
Aside from Mario, what worthwhile games are there to play on switch?
They cater to parents who are looking for a cheaper option and child friendly titles. Awesome, let them fill that bracket of the market.

Worst generation of games ever. Live service bag chasing is killing gaming.

Unreal Engine 5 is going to change that. You get cutting-edge graphics and assets for free nowadays.
Nintendo is just cheap and lazy when it comes to graphical power. They have no problem charging full price for their games but will stay behind the eight ball hardware wise.

Same
Exactly the same over here. I had been holding out for a mid-generation PS5 but there is literally no reason to buy one - not one with any legitimacy. PC, PS4 and Switch for now!
Everything gets more expensive as it gets worse it feels like.

That's the way it IS, not the way it 'feels'. Unsustainable Greed has taken over, and this goes far beyond video games. We are being ruled by thieves. And it is ALL around us.
That's capitalism: offer worse products and services for more money.
If things dont improve game wise for the current generation of consoles, there wont be much incentive to buy the next gen consoles.

I gave up on console gaming with the PlayStation 3 and I haven't been back since. I'm just a PC gamer now. I don't really miss much, except for games on the Switch.
True, I sold my ps3 and xbox 360 to put towards my first gaming pc. Back in 2013. Never was interested in the ps4 because it was basically just a remake station. All of the games that the ps5 games eventually got a pc port so I'm good.
Previous consoles were completely different architecture
Now its just pc like and they scale down
Console generations I’ve owned:
SNES
N64
Sega Dreamcast
XBox
Xbox 360
Xbone
But now I’ve gone gaming PC and gone off of the consoles entirely. I’m done with the console crap, with the “quarterly fee to play the games you already own online with actual other players” crap.
You've been gaming since the 90s and never had a Playstation? What a farce
You’re me. Same experience.

Must be why some titles are running on 60fps despite the RTX4060 GPU 🤣
The main problem is business types that took over and focus on profit over quality, and with their greed they raise prices and rush things to keep that ever increasing income flowing and so not enough time is given to making things properly (or to the right things in general). Consoles were meant to be the cheaper alternative to computer games but now they match the price when you add up all the costs at the end of a consoles generation. Games once made by gamers for gamers are now made by uninterested/not invested workers for investors interests.

It loads your PS4 games faster. That's it as far as I'm concerned

This is going to be me after this generation! I already built my Rig so im set.
60fps is nothing new. Ps3 had 60fps games. There's no boost
Nintendo Switch >> PS5 + XBSX Combined.
Even the PS2 has way more exclusives than the PS5 lmao.
PS4 was the last good generation. It's all downhill from here with this ultra-realistic graphical fidelity porn obsession over soul and substance
Why did you compare the 360 and PS4? They aren't the same generation at all.

It's not just console gaming, it's the entertainment industry as a whole.

I Don't understand this either, it's my favorite genre. They only bring games out for people with a very short attention span it seems.
You could say the same for RTS (real-time strategy), mascot/platformers, point-and-click adventures, music games like Guitar Hero, etc.

Salaries, technology, inflation in general. EVERYTHING is now far more expensive than it was a few decades ago.

This lead developers to making cross gen games just to try and make profit.

games used to cost less and take less time to develop. end of debates
Blame the democrats.
Problem 1: Money being wasted
Problem 2: Time being wasted.
The magical SSD was a lie and a PS4 could run Rift Apart at mid graphics 1080p
Why they keep the 8th gen alive?
" yeah graphics suck lol"
Ray tracing is night and day and ps4 cannot handle Ray tracing.
@@navyvet05does this keep you up at night?
This is why I don't get excited for games anymore. Do you know how many games I was hyped for that turned out to be awful at launch? It's so disappointing. Another thing, and this is more of an indie game problem, I have contributed to kickstarters that ended up not being what they promised or just straight up got cancelled. I am over it.
hi gamers. what game is at 4:13 ???
Cyberpunk 2077
Same!
ok xbot
At this point just buy either a Nintendo switch and/or a gaming PC.
The chip shortage made it hard to produce enough consoles to meet demand plus a lot of game development delays during covid
And scalpers. Just a perfect storm
It comes to something when we play backwards compatible games that look good ..while waiting for the " new exciting " games
