Percival is amazing. Is VERY reminiscent of Fierce. Fierce is what I wore on my first date with my (now) wife and then of course at our wedding. Percival is a more well put together, longer lasting version.
@@cuchanu better to have a few very high quality fragrances than plenty of lower quality ones. Fragrances like Percival are easily better (in 99% of cases) than their cheaper alternatives even if there is a similarity in the scent

Well, I think PDM Kalan is quite underrated because this masterpiece fragrance changes with the passage of time. Secondly, It buys me lots of compliments whenever I wear it.

Darley is a personal favorite of mines. To me, it’s what I was expecting Reflection to smell like. You should definitely put your nose on Habdan, and Oajan for the fall/winter.
Awesome video! Loved seeing Grace's reaction. Her top 3 are the same as my top 3 from the house. I own a bottle of Layton and Percival. I have a sample of Sedley and it's next on my list. My gf has also given me many compliments with those 3.
Watching this, Grace kinda hits home on one thing; it's not just the actual smells and aroma's but the associated memories. Like how the familiarity (and associated good vibes) with Sedley and very much logically Percival helps their scores... And then when Justin compares Greenly to a shampoo, Grace says something like "yeah, that is all I can smell now." Memories are so important.
I purchased Layton last year and wore it and liked it a lot. When my son tried it on, it instantly became his signature scent. Needless to say he used up my entire bottle but it smells so good on him I couldn’t get mad (until I realized it was only a corner in it). That is when I got mad because he had no idea the price point for the bottle. He purchased his own bottle and got a sample of Percival and now that is his favorite. 🤬🤬
Love the house and definitely want to sample more. My wife HATED Layton her first time smelling 😂. 3 sprays last winter and the minute she walked inside, from across the room I hear “nope”! Happy weekend Justin and Grace!

I have not tried a lot from PDM. Sedley, Percival, Herod, Layton & Layton Exclusif. After seeing some really honest reviews, not just from you but others, I don’t think I need to try Greenley, Pegasus and Carlisle. I think my next samples will be Oajan, Kalan and Pegasus Exclusif. I considered Haltane but have heard it’s similar to, but not as nice as Initio’s Oud for Greatness. Of the 5 I’ve tried Layton is by far the best. I consider myself to have a “mainstream” nose. I pick up things from memory to build a scent profile. Most are quite funny. I grew up with a mom who put Vic’s vapor rub on everything and Layton does not give me that vibe at all. A green, candy apple with a hint of pepper. To me it is unrivaled by anything I’ve ever smelt. The only 10/10 there is. Second would be exclusif. But there is, at least to my nose a cheaper & similar alternative. CH Badboy. Exclusif just has a bit more spice. Oddly, when you layering them together they just merge in to Layton. I’d give it a solid 8.8 on it’s own. Herod was my most recent sample. On my initial spray I’d give it a 7. It has something of an incense vibe to it. However, as I wore it changed. It’s dry down was different and I really enjoyed it. So I’d give it an 8.2. Sedley? C’mon guys. It smells like Aqua Velva after shave. Which isn’t a bad scent but it’s straight out of the 1970s and is just, well, super generic. Performance? Outstanding. But to my nose and many others around me it’s a 5 at best. Percival is just Sedley watered down. Not as loud and off putting. So I’d go 6.5 with that one. So to give you an idea of where my nose is, if you’re considering any of the above purchases, these are some of my favs. Which will probably tell you if your senses somewhat align with mine. Versace- Pour Homme Dior - Savauge Elixir Gucci- Guilty pour Homme Carolina Herrera - Bad Boy YSL - La nuit de L’homme Chanel- Blu de Chanel Initio- Oud for greatness Creed- silver mountain water Armani- Code Mercedes- Club black Prada - Luna Rossa black Azarro- Wanted Based on scent, not performance. I’m not a fan of really anything from Paco Rabianne, D&G (maybe light blue on a woman) Givenchy, Tom Ford, Xerjoff or Victor & Rolf (except flower bomb on a woman). I’ve never tried anything from Bond no. 9, Clive Christian, Mugler (although I somewhat like Alien goddess on a woman) Maison Margiella, Sospiro or Nishane. Although I’m considering a sample of Hacivat and Ani from their line. Hope this helps. At least to measure your expectations. Like I said, my nose aligns with the random guy or gal on the street that doesn’t know Bergamot from Patchouli. It either smells like lemon windex (Cedrat Boise Mancera) or spilled cough syrup (Givenchy Gentleman) or a scented tampon (Tom Ford noir extreme) or Layton (eating a green, candied apple on a cloud in Heaven).
Nice job, guys ! I recently acquired Layton, Herod, Carlisle. Still need to test Carlisle thoroughly , but Layton and Herod are out of this world. I'm expecting Oajan any day , after lengthy consideration between it and Habdan. While I did have a decant of Layton to start my PdM journey, the other purchases were blind buys, so I'm trying to be very careful to avoid redundancy (before my wallet finally gives out !) But I will definitely be checking out more of the line at Nordstrom as time/ funds allow, in order to limit a potential disappointing blind buy as my journey continues. Thoughts/ comments appreciated.

My first PdM purchase was Perseus. But the first one I owned was Greenley when my friend let go of it and gave it me. My latest one now is Oajan which I’ve been wearing for the colder days which are fast approaching here in the UK. Looking forward to get me a Carlisle and maybe Haltane. I also have a dupe of Layton which is really spot on. Next summer I’m def getting Percival. Might even get a Delina. I’m so invested in this house 😂
excellent reviews. in regards to the significant difference from paper to skin, unscented soaps are best from my experiences, heavily scented body washes can reek havoc on the best of them. not sure if that is the case, likely not, but worth mentioning.
I hope you read this , my experience with carlisle is as follows, I smelled it the 1st and 2nd time in a fragrance store on my skin and paper and it smelled like a very spicy harsh foreground with sweet warm floral background , the background was magical, for some reason I couldnt rest without buying it eventhough that spice wasnt pleasant at all , I bought carlisle from the same store brand , once I opened it and smelled it , it didnt smelled like that harsh patchouli you mentioned, it smelled exactly what the background smelled like the time I tested it , a year after that , I went to smell a couple of fragrances with my friend, I sprayed carlisle on paper and it smelled exactly like the 1st two times I smelled it , My conclusion is , either it's a patch thing or it's age thing , either the one I had is new bottle so it didn't develop that animalc note or it's a different patch , my guess is that it's an age thing .

2 years ago blind bought Layton after watching the whole world liking it and in the end was kinda disappointed. It is not a bad scent but not something i would spend 200€ on, for me at least. This year i've purchased a discovery set from PDM and really liked Herod and Sedley the most, also Greenlay,Percival and Carlisle but not really at the point to buy a full bottle.. maybe they'll grow on me if I wear them more ,still good scents tho.👍 great house overall

I finally got to test a few PdM fragrances - On TH-cam, I heard so much about Layton and Carlisle. So I went along to test them and my winner was...Percival! Layton was too heavy and sweet, warm for me especially given that we're almost going into summer. Percival was nicely spicey fresh but it had this dignifying weight to it. Makes me want to stand straight up with my spine perfectly upright. I calmed myself over testing more because I'd probably buy it if I found another winner😅 But PdM is so far great!
Nice video! My ranking pretty much the same, with the favorite being Carlisle, closely followed by Layton and Herod. I prefer Sedley to Percival, especially in the warmer weather. They are all excellent and easily wearable, which is why I like the house. Thanks for the nice review and ranking.
@@stayfreshproductions definitely give it another chance on skin, on skin it sweetens up on the dry down and the blend turns sublime on me. Works really well dressed up. Easy going enough for casual or even professional situations too if it’s not oversprayed. My lady LOVES it. Definitely a good representation of “royal essence” imo. Has this old wooden mansion vibe to me for some reason 😆
The Vicks VapoRub vibe some people smell on Layton is just in the first minutes after spraying it, and then it's gone. I don't perceive it that way (at all), but I totally get it. It's similar to the "cold" vibe on the opening of Terre d'Hermès Eau Givrée.
Only tried Layton so far. Nice, but perhaps not the best ever. Not dark or fresh enough. Need to try Layton Exclusif. Also gonna get a set of 6x10ml other PDM scents
Of all the fragrance reviewers, and I've watched quite a few (men and women alike), I honestly think after only a couple of videos Justin is the best. Love the reviews.
Carlisle is my #1 frag and sig scent for fall/winter 😅. BUT, here is the kicker. It actually makes me kind of nauseous from cloying and even in cold weather. So what I do is spray 2 times on the back of my jacket collars. If I am stuck smelling it from my chest or neck and indoors with the heat it quickly makes me sick.
Very much stuck which PDM to get next. Between Percival, Sedley or Pegasus. Love the channel. Keep up the great videos and be great to have another live stream 👊

Great video - she's right on the ball with these top PdMs. Worth noting that Hamid Merati-Kashani was the perfumer for Four PdM scents, Layton, Layton Exclusif, Sedley and Percival. I don't own any of his non Perfums de Marley scents, but I've had one from YSL on my "to check out" list since I fell for Layton, it is called Exquisite Embroidery (part of a collection of scents inspired by clothing).
I agree with you about Carlisle. After spraying it on my arm, it was so torturously offensive that I considered a quick guillotine amputation to rid myself of the odor.
Percival is my favorite too. It's a 10 for me. Just purchased a bottle. Layton opening does smell like Vicks Vaporub, but dry down gets better, but not something I would wear
Tried Carlisle today, that is a beast. Definitely get a little Layton with it, and I’m not sure if tobacco is in it, but I get a pure havane vibe, but better. Layton I could wear every day.

I love Layton one of my favorites but on the first stage of it for about 5-10min it’s smells like menthol and apples 🍏 never the less it is still amazing 😇
I paid a lot for Carlisle exactly because it smelled great on the tester, but once I tried it at home on skin and clothes, I was like “what is this?!” Don’t think the cold weather does much good, you just have to be the type for it, and Carlisle is obviously made for lovers of UNUSUAL scents, smoky and woody. Funny you say that about Carlisle. I had it, but gave it away, the dry down wasn't nice. I prefer Mancera Intense Red Tobacco over Carlisle. I know they're not similar but the vibe and the use case is the kind of the same. I also like the original red tobacco more, but that diverges away from Carlisle by a good margin.
I ordered sedley, I needed some freshness in my collection, I got a good amount of colognes for fall but maybe during Christmas I will be adding either Layton or Herod to my collection
Bottles I own from the house of PDM after sampling many of them are Layton, Herod, and Sedley! I mostly like freshies but still on the fence on getting Greenly.
To me, Tommy from Tommy Hilfiger is Vicks VapoRub. 😄 Hands down. Once you smell it, you can't unsmell it. As for Garnier Fructis, that's Atelier Cologne's Pacific Lime! 😂 But I know Niche4All has a decently rated clone of Carlisle. Might want to give that one a try if the OG doesn't work for you. Or 811 Absoluto from Giovanna Antonelli. Been saying it for years, but the sillage of that one is so similar on me. Just cut the smokiness, and add a good dollop of honey. Very smooth, almost Mugler-esque take on Carlisle.
Hi guys, great video, Lalique White came a long time ago, I think 2007 or so, not my favorite and in terms of performance not so impressive. Its as if you have taken a nice perfume and diluted it with water (not alcohol). If you want a great perfume from Lalique go for Encre Noir edt. Have you ever smelled Marley's Shagya ? one of the older ones, but sooo good. Now I have to smell at least the top 4.
Hey Cope, I just received my Argos sample pack. I must say I get big PDM LAYTON vibes from TRIUMPH OF BACCHUS. They do have some slight differences, however to my nose they are very very similar. Is it just me?
Interesting...they're both sweet, but in different ways to me. Layton is more vanilla sweetness and quite aromatic with lavender and geranium, while TOB is more juicy-fruity boozy sweet with that earthy tobacco. And it's not quite as fresh as Layton.
@@stayfreshproductions I can definitely see where you are coming from. I personally don't pick up any fruity, however I do sense a slightly darker vibe from TOB. Perhaps from the Tobacco and Amber. I think the vanilla just really stands out to me and in a very similar way. I'm gonna have to give it some more wearing. The opening was certainly different. It wasn't until the dry down that I made the connection. Layton has been my go to date night since January so I've given it some decent wear.

Still need to test Carlisle thoroughly , but Layton and Herod are out of this world. I'm expecting Oajan any day , after lengthy consideration between it and Habdan. While I did have a decant of Layton to start my PdM journey, the other purchases were blind buys, so I'm trying to be very careful to avoid redundancy (before my wallet finally gives out !) But I will definitely be checking out more of the line at Nordstrom as time/ funds allow, in order to limit a potential disappointing blind buy as my journey continues. Thoughts/ comments appreciated.

My first PdM purchase was Perseus. But the first one I owned was Greenley when my friend let go of it and gave it me. My latest one now is Oajan which I’ve been wearing for the colder days which are fast approaching here in the UK. Looking forward to get me a Carlisle and maybe Haltane. I also have a dupe of Layton which is really spot on. Next summer I’m def getting Percival. Might even get a Delina. I’m so invested in this house 😂
excellent reviews. in regards to the significant difference from paper to skin, unscented soaps are best from my experiences, heavily scented body washes can reek havoc on the best of them. not sure if that is the case, likely not, but worth mentioning.

I hope you read this , my experience with carlisle is as follows, I smelled it the 1st and 2nd time in a fragrance store on my skin and paper and it smelled like a very spicy harsh foreground with sweet warm floral background , the background was magical, for some reason I couldnt rest without buying it eventhough that spice wasnt pleasant at all , I bought carlisle from the same store brand , once I opened it and smelled it , it didnt smelled like that harsh patchouli you mentioned, it smelled exactly what the background smelled like the time I tested it , a year after that , I went to smell a couple of fragrances with my friend, I sprayed carlisle on paper and it smelled exactly like the 1st two times I smelled it , My conclusion is , either it's a patch thing or it's age thing , either the one I had is new bottle so it didn't develop that animalc note or it's a different patch , my guess is that it's an age thing .
Thanks for the video, really gave me an idea of what i’d like when i walked into the boutique. I LOVE the sedley, and i like the percival and greenly. I always love citrusy, and sometimes aquatic and aromatic fragrances.

I'm so sorry for everyone that says Carlisle smells bitter on them... Like, I over my last 3 years collecting and trying fragrances, Carlisle is top 3 undisputted. Such an amazing smell
First niche fragrance I’ve ever bought was Layton, the reason I got into noche fragrances is Layton 😅😅. Now I own many but Layton has a special place 💯💯
2 years ago blind bought Layton after watching the whole world liking it and in the end was kinda disappointed. It is not a bad scent but not something i would spend 200€ on, for me at least. This year i've purchased a discovery set from PDM and really liked Herod and Sedley the most, also Greenlay,Percival and Carlisle but not really at the point to buy a full bottle.. maybe they'll grow on me if I wear them more ,still good scents tho.👍 great house overall

Pegasus is my favorite from PdM. I don't get the Layton hype. It smells like Vick's Vapor Rub to me!
I finally got to test a few PdM fragrances - On TH-cam, I heard so much about Layton and Carlisle. So I went along to test them and my winner was...Percival! Layton was too heavy and sweet, warm for me especially given that we're almost going into summer. Percival was nicely spicey fresh but it had this dignifying weight to it. Makes me want to stand straight up with my spine perfectly upright.
I calmed myself over testing more because I'd probably buy it if I found another winner😅 But PdM is so far great!
Good video Justin n Grace. My favorites would be Percival, then Oajan, Herrod, layton, and Sedley. Never smelled Carlisle but would like to try it.

Nice video! My ranking pretty much the same, with the favorite being Carlisle, closely followed by Layton and Herod. I prefer Sedley to Percival, especially in the warmer weather. They are all excellent and easily wearable, which is why I like the house. Thanks for the nice review and ranking.

Justin do you have any experience with haltane? I’m a huge fan, better to me than OFG and has more versatility as well.
I smelled it once on paper and liked it, but it didn’t stand out to me. Need to try it again.
@@stayfreshproductions definitely give it another chance on skin, on skin it sweetens up on the dry down and the blend turns sublime on me. Works really well dressed up. Easy going enough for casual or even professional situations too if it’s not oversprayed. My lady LOVES it. Definitely a good representation of “royal essence” imo. Has this old wooden mansion vibe to me for some reason 😆
The Vicks VapoRub vibe some people smell on Layton is just in the first minutes after spraying it, and then it's gone. I don't perceive it that way (at all), but I totally get it. It's similar to the "cold" vibe on the opening of Terre d'Hermès Eau Givrée.

Carlisle is my #1 frag and sig scent for fall/winter 😅.
BUT, here is the kicker. It actually makes me kind of nauseous from cloying and even in cold weather. So what I do is spray 2 times on the back of my jacket collars. If I am stuck smelling it from my chest or neck and indoors with the heat it quickly makes me sick.

Would like to hear Graces opinion on Mancera Red Tobacco vs Carlisle and maybe Herod. Unpopular opinion but I prefer Red Tobacco to Carlisle, have you tried Red Tobacco on skin?
I prefer Argos Triumph of Bacchus to both of them, but will have to get her opinion of all three!

I like Layton but in my skin the vanilla is just sooooo strong, I need to try the exclusif because I want to like Layton but all I can really smell is the vanilla and I need a nice fall scent, what are your thoughts?
Yeah the vanilla can get strong depending on your skin. I'm about to do some fall fragrance lists so stay tuned!

Great video - she's right on the ball with these top PdMs. Worth noting that Hamid Merati-Kashani was the perfumer for Four PdM scents, Layton, Layton Exclusif, Sedley and Percival. I don't own any of his non Perfums de Marley scents, but I've had one from YSL on my "to check out" list since I fell for Layton, it is called Exquisite Embroidery (part of a collection of scents inspired by clothing).

I agree with you about Carlisle. After spraying it on my arm, it was so torturously offensive that I considered a quick guillotine amputation to rid myself of the odor.
The strange thing is, I gave it a wearing (not on my arm) last night and enjoyed it. 😆
Percival is my favorite too. It's a 10 for me. Just purchased a bottle. Layton opening does smell like Vicks Vaporub, but dry down gets better, but not something I would wear
Tried Carlisle today, that is a beast. Definitely get a little Layton with it, and I’m not sure if tobacco is in it, but I get a pure havane vibe, but better. Layton I could wear every day.
Ive tried Carlisle, Layton & Herod and I like Carlisle the best. I’d like to try the darker ones Habdan & Oajan if they are like Carlisle & Herod

you could also not only try karsile on the winter but also put on non-scented moisturizer and spray it then and see how it develops over time
I love Layton one of my favorites but on the first stage of it for about 5-10min it’s smells like menthol and apples 🍏 never the less it is still amazing 😇

I paid a lot for Carlisle exactly because it smelled great on the tester, but once I tried it at home on skin and clothes, I was like “what is this?!” Don’t think the cold weather does much good, you just have to be the type for it, and Carlisle is obviously made for lovers of UNUSUAL scents, smoky and woody. Great video, such a pleasure to watch you guys.

Funny you say that about Carlisle. I had it, but gave it away, the dry down wasn't nice. I prefer Mancera Intense Red Tobacco over Carlisle. I know they're not similar but the vibe and the use case is the kind of the same. I also like the original red tobacco more, but that diverges away from Carlisle by a good margin.
I ordered sedley, I needed some freshness in my collection, I got a good amount of colognes for fall but maybe during Christmas I will be adding either Layton or Herod to my collection

Bottles I own from the house of PDM after sampling many of them are Layton, Herod, and Sedley! I mostly like freshies but still on the fence on getting Greenly.
To me, Tommy from Tommy Hilfiger is Vicks VapoRub. 😄 Hands down. Once you smell it, you can't unsmell it. As for Garnier Fructis, that's Atelier Cologne's Pacific Lime! 😂 But I know Niche4All has a decently rated clone of Carlisle. Might want to give that one a try if the OG doesn't work for you. Or 811 Absoluto from Giovanna Antonelli. Been saying it for years, but the sillage of that one is so similar on me. Just cut the smokiness, and add a good dollop of honey. Very smooth, almost Mugler-esque take on Carlisle.
Hi guys, great video, Lalique White came a long time ago, I think 2007 or so, not my favorite and in terms of performance not so impressive. Its as if you have taken a nice perfume and diluted it with water (not alcohol). If you want a great perfume from Lalique go for Encre Noir edt. Have you ever smelled Marley's Shagya ? one of the older ones, but sooo good. Now I have to smell at least the top 4.

Hey Cope, I just received my Argos sample pack. I must say I get big PDM LAYTON vibes from TRIUMPH OF BACCHUS. They do have some slight differences, however to my nose they are very very similar. Is it just me?
Interesting...they're both sweet, but in different ways to me. Layton is more vanilla sweetness and quite aromatic with lavender and geranium, while TOB is more juicy-fruity boozy sweet with that earthy tobacco. And it's not quite as fresh as Layton.
@@stayfreshproductions I can definitely see where you are coming from. I personally don't pick up any fruity, however I do sense a slightly darker vibe from TOB. Perhaps from the Tobacco and Amber. I think the vanilla just really stands out to me and in a very similar way. I'm gonna have to give it some more wearing. The opening was certainly different. It wasn't until the dry down that I made the connection. Layton has been my go to date night since January so I've given it some decent wear.

Never tried pdm but that is one house that got my attention to try soon . Have you ever tried anything from imaginary authors my favorite is saint julep but for me it doesn’t last supper long looking for something similar but a little stronger maybe and longer lasting
