+Christian Kunert ......Yeah,,,.. Gotta luv it.... Driving a Clio. ....Professional driver Hurley Haywood as our lead instructor when at Road Atlanta was introducing the class of 10 students to the details of the tract,.. all the while driving a 12 passenger Dodge van.... With the van fully loaded he drove the van around Road Atlanta like only a pro could.....Unbelievable...
+MultiTerpen At higher professional levels the car can make a big difference because everyone is at a similar level , there isn't a massive difference between the drivers at that level. But at normal track days the drivers skill levels vary quite a bit so it's not uncommon to see someone driving a really fast car getting passed by a better driver in a slower car. The faster car will of course help the slower drivers a bit especially if there car has better tyres but they won't be able to use it's full potential.
I drove the Nordschleife last summer. Even though I drive a Ferrari at home, and race often, I made LOTS of mistakes here! I was passed by Clios and Meganes. I truly realized that track knowledge is crucial. Much more important than horsepower. There were 9 accidents on the day I went. So If you are planning to drive the Nordschleife, plan the drive and learn the corners. Armco is expensive and paying for a new racecar is even more so! That being said, my laps on the Nordshcleife were some of the best memories I have.
Started playing AC on a sim, I dove into the nordschleife head on in a gt86, it took quite some time to get a run in without majorly screwing up. I got a lap time of 9:32.382, I'm glad I have this video to help me lower my times down.
ProPilot71 hahaha thats awesome! thank you for responding back, glad to know it works, hopefully, i'll be better a year from now too lol. Green Hell Academy starts now for me. -Snow of IGZ
That's a great instructional video. Thanks for posting. I've been 3 times now, about 40 laps and can appreciate your advice. My fastest lap is 9:45, however I can see where I can carry more speed in some of the corners. Still better to enjoy a little slower lap and be able to drive home afterwards than try to be a hero!
Simply the best. I always come back to this video. This should be the textbook for how this is done. Forget the nonsense spouted by Misha, who just shouts an endless series of meaningless instructions at you. This here, is the right level of information, delivered calmly, concisely and with clearly a deep level of understanding. Just gold standard!
This guide is the best. In 10 minutes you explained more than some other guys in 1h guides. Gearing and mentioning turn in / apex points are key to a good guide. Thanks!
Loving these instructions Antony, the lines are really superb for beginners, Ive learned this track watching this clip several times going and coming back from the simulator. I urge anyone that wants to avoid crashing to see this video over and over again to save your self the embarrassment when it counts in real life. NO EGOS
Wow... Drinking knowledge out of a firehouse with this video. For someone like me that doesn't know the track, I have to watch this video at least 10 times to really "get" each corner.
Ha ha, a fellow South African here, I just landed in Leipzig for 8 months and now I just have to figure out how to persuade my mother in law to take her car for the day on a little "trip" east!!
Awesome video! I drive this track a couple times per day in a game and it’s on my bucket list to visit, get some training/lessons, and then do some high speed laps in an appropriate car.
Many thanks. ive just got back, my time wasnt as good as i thought as i foolishly thought the `bridge` to start the lap was the section above the GP circuit where some record laps are recorded from.😟
Best video of its kind. I know my way around it well enough and know the corners to be particularly wary of. Now I'm determined to memorise the names of the corners and sections of my spiritual home.
Thanks for your advice RSRNurburg it really helped when I did my first lap on Sunday. Nothing really prepares you for the change in elevation, the camber and the kicks that Nordschleife throws up!! Cheers!!
Great video, for now i Watch it everyday couple of times and Drive around Nordschleife in Forza Motorsport - 8.42 in Honda Civic Type R 2018, no assist, that’s my favorite car. I drove over 5000 km on that track In game and still counting. I’m preparing for a trip to Nordschleife in real life soon :) and I just love how you spell Miss-Hit-Miss, it’s awesome:)
Oh Man! What a ride! Great instruction.. Except for the jumps which are hard to dicern from the car I was right with you on my (natural) turn and braking points. I think I might actually put down a good lap(without meeting guardrail) given a chance. TFS! Fun, Fun.
Great help for getting a good pace as a beginner.(me) This video alone made it feel quite smooth driving the ring and felt a lot safer. Just need 1 more watch and go drive Agaton
Ich bin der gleichen Meinung wie die Zuschauer vor mir. Super Video, und vielen Dank. Das werde ich mir sicher noch öfters anschauen vor dem nächsten Trackday. Dear Anthony, many thanks for guiding the rookies brilliantly through the magnificient track. Regards Harry
I'm doing the nordschleife in the summer hopefully. I have around 800 hrs of nordshleife from Gran Turismo franchise but I understand that although my track knowledge is very good it's another thing driving it for real, feeling the weightlessness of the car and weight transfer compared to so many stationary hours on a sim...
+BollocksUtwat Yeah, what good is a powerful car when you don't have the skills to control it? Best to start off with a lightweight FWD with low power. Just like the one the instructor is driving. Then when you get more skill, change to a powerful AWD and then a RWD. At least that's what I'm going to do, when I start track days.
TheSkyline35 The 1st gen Subaru Imprezza RS is like $2000 + $4000 for the JDM turbo engine swap or you could just leave the car with the stock engine or you could get the 2002 Subaru WRX for like $4,000 and rebuild the transmission for like $2,000... kinda the same...
Very enjoyable watching this (although I found this in 2015) and the use of reference points was great. I have a question and that is "What is the compression point?"
+Gordon Clark Not certain who you are asking but as far as I can tell a "compression point" is the point at which the track starts to take an up slope. It would appear braking on the uphill enables the car to scrub off more speed in less distance enabling a greater overall speed and more effective use of braking. Its the whole "brake late but in a straight line" principal used in auto racing. I think the specific "compression" of which he speaks is the downward compression of the suspension allowing the car to settle better / correctly for the upcoming turn etc.
+Kris Valenti Yes I was asking about the 'compression point' as in its downward pressure on the shock absorbers and how it affected the braking of the car and whether it would therefore upset by 'doubling' the downward pressure if you then arrived at an upward slope of the track. Thank you for the explanation and hope this reply makes sense.
It was originally a drainage ditch, Rudolf Caracciola was allegedly the first driver to use it as part of the track. Only later was the corner expanded into the karussell that we're all familiar with today.
That was awesome instruction! I have track experience here in California. Driving the Nordschleife is on my "bucket list". I'll be there fr my birthday thisAugust 22, 2017. Might you be available to instruct ? If not, any recommendations on car rental / instruction? Thanks, Ric
Radbert Grimmig Callum Throw Cancun771 Maybe the guy in Ferrari is doing his first laps on Nordschleife? Not everyone in a Ferrari has enough money, to smash them every once in a while, some people made lifetime investmensts in those cars. But I know, I´m on youtube and you guys are all pro racers, doing Norschleife under 7 minutes in MK II Golf diesel.
Matej Chrenko Dude I agree with you that maybe there is a solid reason why he passed that Ferrari and yeah the risk of smashing such an expensive car is not worth taking! But it was a good comment that's all!
It all depends on the gearing that you have. Some people swap gearboxes, ratios, wheels and tires. It is stupid to say don't use the second gear, since this is not a Renault Clio guide.
i think that this guide is more about a "safe" lap on a normal day...and in most sims and most cars while it's certainly faster using 2nd gear in some cars u can absolotely do a very fast lap without putting 2nd at all
Casually overtaking a Porsche and a Ferrari in a Clio.....
love it. Great instructions
+Christian Kunert the yellow porche is leaving him in the dust
+Christian Kunert Skill is a big factor, it does not always come down to the car
MultiTerpen thats why races are often in classes. So that its about the driver and not about car performance
Here after a pathetic -7:09- in a 720 Gt
@akhil_1210 LMFAOOO Me with a 15:43 in a e36
He is doing a 9 min 20 secs lap, in a relaxed and cool manner. So impressive. And thank you for all the tips.
Cant wait for the dream pack
When you see this it shows me that I have alot to learn still...
Wow , very nice driving and talking , I can't even walk and chew at the same time ha ha
Nice one, thanks! Now I´m gonna tackle it on GT6 with the G27, BAMM! :)
Lol same here :P
Boozt Drifter Pretty much the best track in the world imho. :)
you wrote this a year ago, has this helped?
Ignorant Gamerz
Lol! Yes, great help and video for beginners. Made over 20.000 km on the ring, so far. Just love the Green Hell. :)
ProPilot71 hahaha thats awesome! thank you for responding back, glad to know it works, hopefully, i'll be better a year from now too lol. Green Hell Academy starts now for me. -Snow of IGZ
YES!
Beautiful lines, smooth driving and fast!
LOVE the commentary, LOVE the helmet cam, LOVE EVERYTHING :D

And I appreciate you doing this instructional video in a car that most people could afford, modify to their taste and drive.
Very good video. You are a great instructor Anthony. With your help I did cut 20s at Spa when I attended a trackday where you were instructor.
I'm going to play this on loop in my sleep before I go this year..

Fantastic video, great commentary and smooth driving! My favourite Nordschleife guide!
Thank you for producing. I will watch this many times before I get my chance to drive the Ring. STR!
Great video to use as reference. Thanks for sharing this video that also shows how hard the Nordschleife is to learn.
This guide is the best. In 10 minutes you explained more than some other guys in 1h guides. Gearing and mentioning turn in / apex points are key to a good guide. Thanks!
Wow the commentary!! BRILLIANT! I felt like I was the one driving! Great lessons, Kudos!
That was awesome. I really didn't knew that there were so many signs for turn in/brake. Great video, thanks!
great video.
looks nice and steady yet a less than 9 1/2 minute lap!
shows how driving smoothly not aggressively is quick
Nice video. Recognized your South African accent immediately, good to hear!

Very clear,Very helpful video. job well done. One day I will leave New Zealand & drive this track again & again.
Excellent video of the perfect track.
I bought your book on amazon thanks for the turn stats and major bends.
Very instructional video. Clear talk through which I enjoyed a lot. Thumbs up Anthony.
Perfect stuff! I've been doing hotlaps of the Nordschleife on Assetto Corsa and this guide has helped so much!!
This is my favourite camera angle!
Ha ha, a fellow South African here, I just landed in Leipzig for 8 months and now I just have to figure out how to persuade my mother in law to take her car for the day on a little "trip" east!!
Sent your video to someone who plans to head to the Nurburgring- very helpful! Enjoyed the hints and suggestions.
Awesome video! I drive this track a couple times per day in a game and it’s on my bucket list to visit, get some training/lessons, and then do some high speed laps in an appropriate car.
Great video! Very nice explanation of the lines as well, superb.

The GT school in Gran Turismo 5 was really useful for learning this place
+GZA036 Very true! amazing how accurate the track in Gran Turismo 5 is.
Best instruction ever, so cool and still so fast. You have all my respect and thanks a lot man!
Brilliant video. Thanks. Great prep for a visit
Thanks for your advice RSRNurburg it really helped when I did my first lap on Sunday. Nothing really prepares you for the change in elevation, the camber and the kicks that Nordschleife throws up!! Cheers!!
This Video is plain awesome, thank you!
Nice driving. Helpful video. Thanks!!
AWSOME!!!!!!! Very good explanation! Thats what ive been doing on GT5 with the BMW M3. I cant wait to do it in person in 2 years! Thank you so much!
Finally...someone with these videos. Great stuff!
Great video. I never stop learning and finding room for improvement on this incredible course.

great video. excellent commentary whilst driving.
Very good video and very useful for other tracks as well.
Fantastic video! Makes me also drool for the dream pack release :)
Thanks for the tips man I am trying to learn this track on assetto Corsa but it's really hard to remember everything because of the size
Ideally the oil temperature should be at or above 74 degrees before you go out on track
Ich bin der gleichen Meinung wie die Zuschauer vor mir. Super Video, und vielen Dank. Das werde ich mir sicher noch öfters anschauen vor dem nächsten Trackday.
Dear Anthony, many thanks for guiding the rookies brilliantly through the magnificient track.
Regards Harry
Great video, Thank you.
Will be doimg lots of study before I come to do a couple of laps..
I can't wait👍
That was epic. I've driven this track on my Forza a zillion times but that looks so much better.
I Have both forza and gt6.
in gran turismo track look the same like this video give you a great feeling....
I'm doing the nordschleife in the summer hopefully. I have around 800 hrs of nordshleife from Gran Turismo franchise but I understand that although my track knowledge is very good it's another thing driving it for real, feeling the weightlessness of the car and weight transfer compared to so many stationary hours on a sim...
good throttle, good ratios, congratulations!
Very good video! It helped me on GT Sport!
Thank you! And that GT3 on 09.05 was very scarry!
Wonderful to watch ... thank you for the ride.
A great video, even better instructions. RSRNurburg delivers cool content yet again.
This clio overtake so many more powerfull cars, too easy :p
+TheSkyline35 Powerful cars without powerful drivers.
+BollocksUtwat Yeah, what good is a powerful car when you don't have the skills to control it?

A subaru at 2000$ might not be very reliable, also in France, they cost way more :'(
With evo round the corner. I’m just binging on all nurg content haha
Absolutely superb driving while instructing wow!..lol...thx bro
I'm going next week. This video is a great help
Some amazing tuition right there! Awesome video guys..
Great info and a beautiful produced video. Fantastic work!
Excellent - this video is the best. I wish I have seen it months ago haha....
Fantastic Video. Would be awesome to see what he is doing with the pedals
for pedal work, check out: Best Motoring S2000 Nurburgring Test
fantastic video and great info for all newbies!

この動画は非常に勉強になりました。(JPN日本語)
This video is so Great! Many studying!(English)
Dieses Video ist zu einer sehr lernenden Erfahrung geworden!!(Germanドイツ語)
What's the deal with the carousel? It could be such a great turn. Maybe it's meant to eliminate amatures?
and what's with the kerbs as well? Are they meant to kill people?
I guess
Nah its just a piece of the original Track from 1927, they wanted to keep a little piece from the old track alive !
It was originally a drainage ditch, Rudolf Caracciola was allegedly the first driver to use it as part of the track. Only later was the corner expanded into the karussell that we're all familiar with today.
Nice driving, thanks for sharing
Wow, makes it look so easy!
Thanks this video is very helpful! Especially mentioning the turning en braking points.
Would be helpful to show recce notes along with this.
very nice Video, good explaining, good work 👍
Awesome camera 👍🏻
excellent quality! enjoyed it a lot.
Excellent video - Thanks

did you just fucking pass a ferrari in a renault?

Nicely done my fellow South African!
Awesome video thanks a lot! One question: the rule "no 1 and 2 gears cornes" is for every cars or only for this one?
When you downshift do you use the Heel-Toe Technique? What would be the perfect downshifting technique for beginners?
Alan Saucedo i think he did looking at his knees but i wouldnt swear to it
Great instructions! Well done!
Great video
fantastic instruction!

Roy Rki Try reading the main comment again. Maybe this time you'll get it.
Is that an otherwise standard Clio RS, or are there any Suspension Modifications @RSRNurburg ?
thanks, needed some tips for gran turismo 6..which i also have that car...in the same colour...how the..
Thank you. Nice instruction.
