What’s it been now, three years? Even just seeing this short clip of him singing here still makes my heart ache. Miss him, man. One of my favorites. RIP Mac
This will always be my favorite part of this concert. Mac saying “I don’t understand why you’re doing the most”, and thundercat just immediately doing the absolute most
Shout out to that drummer's ghost notes after it. As if to give props. I swear that contributed to Mac's little laugh after it. Those ghost notes stood out to me the first time I saw this (legendary) performance.
Rest in Peace Mac! 💖 These guys have Pure Soul in abundance and love the energy. Pure class musicianship, loving and feeling every moment.. The Grinning.. Thunder Cheshire Cat, and Mac's little turn, Beautiful!
I don't give a lot of rappers chances and I just keep listening to the same stuff I always do that being said, I came across this video two months before he died and I wish I gave him a listen much sooner because he's a real musician
I’d give most anything to go back and hear MAC perform he was a true friend of inspiration and creativity when it came to music rip the Macadelic and may his positivity live on in his jams 😢
@@AstrosElectronicsLab nah, he definitely throws in triplets a measure after the beat comes back (on beat 4 of the measure), sort of in response to the bass fill. I think that specifically is definitely what made Mac laugh at the end there lol. Keeping the fire lit
Dude, Mac literally has to get a little credit for that too. The vibe, energy and love these dudes had for each other is tangible. THEY made that lick happen. Look how much fun the Cat is having. Thats what music is all about 💜 RIP big dawg
The best thing about the performance of this song is watching the expressions on the other musicians’ faces whenever Thundercat does some amazing bass run, like “This guy is just too much!”
I miss Mac...he was one of the few ppl in mainstream music that I actually respect. I dont care for mainstream hip hop or pop at all but this dudes intentions were always pure and relate to him alot
I just found out about Thundercat. Look at Mac in the background. Means Thundercat has been around for a while and still relevant. So cool. I think I'm hooked
Last year I saw him open for Herbie Hancock and I didn’t even know he was the opener when I got to the venue, and let me tell you, a Thundercat is a very welcome surprise, dude is legendary
Mac will forever be one of the greatest minds of our generation. He was incredibly talented, well spoken and articulated; nothing beats a weekend wake and bake, turning on KIDS and vibing till noon
I wasn't even a big fan of Mac Miller and his music, but man, I fuckin' loved his energy and personality. Plus he reminds me on an old beat friend who also died at a young age. Sometimes the smartest and coolest ones are the ones to make a mistake and go too early.
the drummer noticed thunder cat goin' slightly off beat and counted back in to help him catch the groove again. you can see it in his eye movements. beautiful interaction between the two.
Rip Mac

never caught that, that's great
He pulls it of tho
yeah i watched the video thanks
And Mac not being able to hold back the laughter while having to flow 😂 just having a good time man
Thundercat is one of those musicians who either inspires you to practice more or scares you into quitting
He makes it look so natural
We must keep trying to emulate his style so we can carry on his legacy.
Same with Les Claypool
Lol!!! I’ve felt conflicted between the 2, for sure!
Mono Neon??
That snare triplet caught me so off-guard and activated my stank receptors immediately
For real. So tasteful.
YASSSSS ❤
Too clean

Just fell right into the groove like a cloud in that moment

So glad someone mentioned this
was looking for this
holy shit yes! thats equally AS SEXY as the lick itself
YESS!!!! I keep saying this to my friends, it's almost like the drums are laughing along too
I’m sorry could you explain to the uninformed(me) what a ghost note is?
That smile is someone in just pure joy. Rip Mac. So much talent in one video
His big ass grin after he owns it is incredibly contagious
Making the whole band smile with an impromptu bass riff is an achievement to be proud of
Mac: Why you doing the most?
Thundercat: *does the most*
Didnt even think of that. Had mac bustin out nearly
My bro threw on some serious.. STANK.. on that funk at baseline. Sick 10 outta 10
The scream in the back and the smiles after, that’s music baby! 🥰

Nah, the count in from the drummer was the real extreme talent in this clip… how!?
I don't give a lot of rappers chances and I just keep listening to the same stuff I always do that being said, I came across this video two months before he died and I wish I gave him a listen much sooner because he's a real musician
A true musician, indeed.
Dude, his smile is the best part. Both he and Mac were just having fun.
i think my soul just physically did a Michael Jackson spin
Ow!
That’s small Laugh Was beautiful
Damn he was behind Mac and I loved this show n ij didn't know who Thundercat was at the time
Me either. Explains why Thundercat is amazing in his own right.
glad to see thundercat getting recognition. he was so niche when i was a teen in the Flying Lotus days... i wouldve never imagined his success.
DAMN Mac’s voice bounces off that base line so well. Great duo
You cut the pianists response to this on his keyboard, the whole set is full of these little bits. They all played off each other really well
Yess!!!! I think its a masterclass in band communication and chemistry
Mac smiling through that is pretty dope. You know he enjoyed that

One of my favorites tiny concerts. “I just wanna fly…….”
triplet snare ghost notes right after tho 😫
Not really a triplet as that needs to fit one beat, more like 16ths.
@@AstrosElectronicsLab nah, he definitely throws in triplets a measure after the beat comes back (on beat 4 of the measure), sort of in response to the bass fill. I think that specifically is definitely what made Mac laugh at the end there lol. Keeping the fire lit

Mac sounds like shit they coulda put anyone else up there besides him. No, it’s all Cat and the Drummer. Stfu
Extreme reach. wasn't even a good rapper
I think the guitarist deserves credit for his skill, Mac got nothing to do w that

Excellent! That search turned up the source. Thanks for sharing. ☮️❤️🌈
God this Tiny desk on vinyl. Absolutely love the chemistry. RIP mac
Some incredible artists have passed through that NPR studio.
Absolutely amazing.
this is a beautifully painful place to be. LOVE IT
Thudercat hittin it with an overt bass lick, drummer hitting a slick subtle ghost note eighth note triplet.
Love to see him smiling and enjoying the good music, R.I.P.
I just found out about Thundercat. Look at Mac in the background. Means Thundercat has been around for a while and still relevant. So cool. I think I'm hooked
Thundercat has been around since the 2000s but his solo career has been going up like crazy for the past 12 years, glad to see new fans around :)
He goes back to the old Adult Swim and Flying Lotus days.
Most interesting musician I’ve seen in a while
Will forever be the best tiny desk concert they've put on. The songs, vibes inbetween, everything was perfect. Rip Mac daddy
Saw them live a couple years ago. Such a fun show
Thundercat rizzed Mac up 😂
6 string bass is sick
That lil snare lick after the bass lick is nice too
The matched note length between bass + vox on the word 'keep' - ugh!
Saw thundercat tonight I forgot I was on earth for a little while lmao 👏🏻❤️❤️
Going to see him on Friday

Baddest most remarkable bass line of the last 2 decades. Can I get a witness? ✊🏾

Thundercat is such a joy to watch live. He has so much fun playing that bass.
'Do Better' is soulful & inspiration!

This is definitely my favorite track from Swimming, in no small part due to the bass line. Absolutely incredible song

I love the Larry Fisherman funk vibe he was getting knto.

So glad I don't have to hear him anymore. 😊
It’s almost like the drop caught him off guard. Picked it up and showed us a good time. Beautiful.
